951 Pittsburgh Pirates at 952 Washington Nationals -135, 9
The Pittsburgh Pirates (23-40) are in the nation's capital for Game 1 of a three-game set versus the Washington Nationals (26-35). Young gun JT Brubaker (4-5, 3.90) is scheduled to oppose veteran lefty Jon Lester (0-2, 4.19).
Brubaker received an official at-bat before making his first start vs. the Rockies after spending time on bereavement leave. He pitched six scoreless innings against the Rockies and followed that with 4.2 innings of three-run ball vs. the Dodgers this past Tuesday. The turn vs. Colorado was his fourth win of the season, and his last start against the Dodgers was his fifth loss.
Lester is neither reality nor fantasy relevant at 37-years old. Across his 38.2 innings of work, he's allowed 42 hits, 18 ER, and has a 27:16 K: BB ratio. The former elite left-hander is running on empty. The southpaw was never overpowering, but he is topping out at 89 mph on the gun, and his command is comparable to kids struggling on the farm. Monday's Free Pick is a play on the Pittsburgh "Road Dog" Pirates.Comment

Not listing pitchers here. The two probable starters are Arrieta and Peterson and not much there either way. Arrieta has been bad on the road and Peterson has been awful in his last two starts with serious command issues. So this one is all about the situation, which I feel favors the Mets pretty nicely. It's a sweep revenge scenario for the Mets as they dropped all three games in an earlier trip to Chicago. The Cubs are coming out of a very exciting home sweep of the rival Cardinals, with full houses at Wrigley. I think this is a potential letdown spot off that series. The Mets have been monsters at home with a 17-6 record. Might be a bullpen edge here for the Mets as well. The two pens are almost dead even overall, but I would suspect Kimbrel is probably off tonight after working three straight games, while the Mets anchors got yesterday off. Since I'm not enamored with either starter, I feel the full game is a better option than the F5 and I'm on the Mets to get this one.Comment

Play: Total Over 2.25 (-105)
We're taking the Over 2.25 in the Copa America South clash between Bolivia and Paraguay on Monday.
Heavy favorites Paraguay here have failed to score in two of their most recent internationals, but we expect that to change here on Monday in Goiania.
Bolivia meanwhile are in fine goalscoring form, netting in all seven of their most recent internationals with captain Marcelo Moreno scoring in each of those games as well.
The issue for Bolivia however is that they've conceded in each of those matches also, including 5 against Brazil back in October.
Paraguay have netted 8 times against Bolivia over their four most recent H2H's and we expect that to continue here on Monday as well as Paraguayian winger Angel Romero leads the charge with four goals over his last six starts.
Take the Over 2.25 goals in Monday's Copa America clash between Bolivia and Paraguay.

Play: Paraguay -1.0 (-145)
Bolivia comes off an impressive 1-1 draw against Chile following a stunning 3-1 rout of Venezuela at home in LaPaz during the latest round of CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying down in South America, so they're actually in pretty good form. The Bolivians, who typically benefit from a huge homecourt advantage due to the altitude in La Paz, equalized late in Santiago on a penalty kick from Brazilian-based captain Marcelo Moreno, who plays at Cruzeiro and is one of the few members of their roster who doesn't toil in their domestic lead. They'll come in confident and actually drew in Asuncion back in November to earn their first point in World Cup qualifying, but Paraguay has by far the more talented roster and comes in battle-tested after facing Uruguay and Brazil last week. The Paraguyans failed to score and will be hungry with San Lorenzo's Angel Romero leading the charge up front, Newcastle United's Miguel Almiron in midfield and Hertha Berlin's Omar Alderete teaming with Brazilian-based Gustavo Gomez (Palmeiras) and Junior Alonso (Atletico Mineiro) in the back. We'll ride Paraguay to turn the page after a rough week in getting off to a strong start in Copa America by taking down Bolivia in Goiania. Lay the goal.Comment
