We're getting the Washington Nationals cheap at home tonight against the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates, who are just 23-41 on the season. They have the better lineup and the better bullpen and should be bigger favorites at home tonight.
Jon Lester has held his own this season with a 4.19 ERA in eight starts. Lester has been at his best of late with a 2.02 ERA in his last three starts against the Rays, Braves and Brewers, which are three of the better teams in baseball. He is 13-6 with a 3.17 ERA in 26 career starts against the Pirates as well.
J.T. Brubaker has posted decent numbers this season for the Pirates at 4-5 with a 3.90 ERA in 11 starts. But he has been at his worst on the road, going 1-3 with a 4.91 ERA in six starts away from home. And Brubaker has been shaky of late with a 5.62 ERA in his last three starts.
The Pirates are 0-7 in their last seven games overall. Pittsburgh is 6-27 in its last 33 road games following four or more consecutive losses. Lester is 78-27 against the money line in his career vs. bad teams that are outscored by 0.5 or more runs per game. Bet the Nationals Monday.

I'll take my chances with the Reds as a decently priced +133 road dog against the Brewers in Monday's series opener. Milwaukee has been playing great. The Brewers come in having won 4 straight and are 9-1 over their last 10. Thing is, Cincinnati is also playing really well right now. Reds have won 3 straight and are 8-2 in their last 10.
When you factor in the starting pitching matchup, it's easy to see the value with Cincinnati. Reds will send out Vladimir Gutierrez, who has really impressed in his first 3 starts. Gutierrez has a 2.65 ERA, having allowed just 5 runs on 11 hits in 17 innings of work.
Not to mention all 3 have come against division rivals. First two were on the road against the Cubs and Cardinals. The most recent was at home against these same Brewers, where he had his best outing, giving up just 2 runs in 7 innings.
Eric Lauer will start for the Brewers and he's not been nearly as impressive in his limited action in 2021. Lauer has a 4.74 ERA and 1.474 WHIP in 4 starts. With Milwaukee going just 1-3 in those starts. Last time out at home against the Tigers, he gave up 7 runs on 7 hits (3 HR) in 2 innings. Give me the Reds +133!
