The Miami Marlins have lost five straight as road underdogs, all but one by two runs or more. They're more than likely in big trouble here with rookie left-hander Braxton Garrett (0-1, 6.43 ERA) going up against veteran right-hander Adam Wainwright (4-5, 4.03 ERA).
Wainwright is 6-2 with a 3.09 ERA in 13 career appearances against the Marlins and he has posted a 2.62 ERA home at Busch Stadium in 2021. The Cards are hitting .248 and averaging 5.50 runs per nine innings against left-handers. I think they'll rough up Garrett badly.

The D'Backs just can't get out of their own way right now, losers of 10 games in a row entering Monday's series-opener in San Francisco. Look for the Giants to add to the D'Backs misery in this one.
Matt Peacock will take the ball for Arizona. While we are talking about a small sample size of just three starts, he has posted a 5.40 ERA and 1.63 WHIP on the road this season. Given the fact that he averages just 4.5 innings per start overall this year, we should see plenty of a Snakes bullpen that has just three saves to their credit compared to seven blown save opportunities on the road this season.
Alex Wood will counter for San Francisco. He's been solid here at home, posting a 3.94 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in five starts this season - three of them resulting in Giants victories. Wood is averaging just a shade under six innings per start at home and working behind him is a terrific Giants bullpen that has posted a collective 2.47 ERA and 1.00 WHIP with 11 saves compared to only two blown at home this season.
San Francisco checks in 18-9 at home this season, where it outscores the opposition by 0.8 runs per game. While we're dealing with a fairly steep price, I believe it could be even higher. Take San Francisco (8*).

No American League team has been a bigger money-burner for bettors than the Twins, who at 26-39 are tied with the Tigers for last place in the AL Central Division. Can the Twins stay this bad the rest of the season? I don't believe so. One thing the Twins have done right is mash. They rank No. 2 in the majors in homers with 95. So a pitching matchup of Kenta Maeda versus southpaw Marco Gonzales sets up well for Minnesota. So does the spot. The Twins draw the Mariners returning to Seattle for the first time in 12 days following a 10-game road swing that culminated with a surprising 6-2 victory against Shane Bieber and the Indians on Sunday. Gonzales is having a difficult year at 1-4 with a 5.45 ERA. Gonzales has been tagged for eight homers in 36 1/3 innings. If you like metrics, here's one: Gonzales is giving up a whooping 41.4 percent fly ball percentage to righties. Minnesota's top three home run hitters are all right-handed - Nelson Cruz, Josh Donaldson and Miguel Sano. They've combined for 36 homers. Career-wise, Gonzales is 0-2 with an 11.57 ERA in two starts versus Minnesota. The Twins are slated to start Kenta Maeda, who went 6-1 with a 2.70 ERA last year with Minnesota but is 2-2 with a 5.27 ERA this season. Maeda has been dealing with groin and arm injuries. This will be his first start since May 22 as he's been on IL. The Mariners have never faced him. Maeda is a quality pitcher when healthy. He faces a Seattle lineup that ranks last in the majors in batting average at .209. The Mariners aren't likely to have their home run, on-base percentage and slugging percentage leader, Mitch Haniger, either. He fouled a pitch off his knee yesterday and had to leave the game. Seattle doesn't have nearly the offensive luxury to lose Haniger.

My free play is on the Twins at 10:10 ET. The Minnesota Twins entered the current season off winning back-to-back AL Central titles but even though it's just mid-June, it's probably safe to say that there will be NO division crown for the Twins in 2021. Minnesota opens a six-game road trip this coming week with the first of three against the Mariners tonight in Seattle. The Twins 'limp' in at 26-39, tied with the Tigers for last-place in the AL Central and already a whopping 15 games back of the first-place Chicago White Sox. Seattle welcomes Minnesota to T-Mobile Park with a 32-35 record that leaves them EIGHT games back of the first-place Oakland A's in the AL West. Seattle has been around .500 most of the season, opening 11-6 but falling to 21-26 through May 23. The Mariners clawed back to 29-29 through June 3 but enters this series having lost SIX of nine. The teams met in a three-game series back in April (8-11) at Minnesota with the Mariners taking two of the three.The Monday pitching matchup features Kenta Maeda (2-2, 5.27 ERA) of Minnesota and Marco Gonzales (1-4, 5.45 ERA). Although one can't tell it by their respective 2021 record, Maeda and Gonzales are both considered to be their respective teams' aces. Maeda spent his first four seasons with the Dodgers but was traded to Minnesota in February of 2020. Maeda was terrific in 2020, going 6-1 in 11 starts (Twins were 8-3). He posted a 2.70 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and opponents batted just .168 against him. He was the American League’s Cy Young Award runner-up. However, in NINE starts here in 2021 (Twins are 2-7), not only has Maeda's ERA just about doubled from 2020 but so has his WHIP (1.48) plus his BAA (.299) is up .131 points! Gonzales has a similar 'tale of woe,' having gone 36-24 (.600) for Seattle from 2018-2020 with a 3.85 ERA, before seeing his ERA jump by 1.60 in seven starts (Seattle is 2-5) in 2021. Both pitchers have dealt win injuries, as Maeda was placed on the injured list on May 23 with a right adductor strain, while also experiencing some arm soreness that kept him sidelined. After a one-start rehab assignment on Wednesday in St Paul (he allowed just one hit-a HR-in his four-innings), Maeda is finally set to make his return to the rotation on Monday. As for Gonzales, a left forearm strain has sidelined him for all of May and in two starts in June, he lasted four innings in each. Since his last win (April 15), he's 0-3 (team is 0-4) but owns a respectable 3.42 ERA. However, it hardly inspires confidence that Gonzales is 0-2 with an 11.58 ERA and 2.25 WHIP in two career starts against Minnesota, which ranks 2nd in MLB with 95 HRs. This marks Maeda's first start vs Seattle and the 2021 edition of the Mariners owns MLB's lowest team BA (.209) and ranks 29th (out 30 teams) in OPS at .652. Reason: NHL Semifinal action game one here tonight from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas has the Montreal Canadiens and Vegas Golden Knights meeting. This will be the first trip out of Canada for the Canadiens in 15 months. They have also been playing to nearly empty arenas in Canada. Now they travel to the Vegas heat that will be 112 degrees or more. They also play in a Fortress that will be packed with 18,000 plus fans. Vegas has the Vezina finalist in G Marc-Andre Fluery who was brilliant about 95% of the time in the Avalanche series. He held one of the best offenses in the league in check for the most part. Vegas defensemen Alex Martinez and Alex Pietrangelo are two of the best in the league and they have proved it these playoffs. Montreal backed into the playoffs and no one expected them to be here today. But here they are and they are led by a very good goalie in Carey Price.
