MLB | Blue Jays vs Orioles
Play on: Blue Jays -1½ -113 at pinnacle
Dave's Friday Free Play:
1* on Toronto Blue Jays -1.5 (-113) The Key: The Baltimore Orioles are 0-8 in their last 8 games overall while getting outscored 59 to 23 during this skid. The Toronto Blue Jays should put it on them tonight. The Blue Jays have the edge on the rubber with Robbie Ray, who is 4-2 with a 3.45 ERA and 1.12 WHIP in 12 starts while 92 strikeouts in 70 1/3 innings. Bruce Zimmerman is 3-4 with a 5.17 ERA and 1.57 WHIp in 11 starts for the Orioles. The Blue Jays are scoring 5.7 RPG against left-handed starters this year. Toronto is 7-1 off a loss by 4 runs or more this year and winning by 5.1 RPG. Baltimore is 1-12 off 5 or more consecutive losses this year. Take Toronto on the Run Line.

MLB | A's vs Yankees
Play on: A's +131 at linepros
I don't get the respect for the Yankees with this line. Oakland is 12-2 this month, winners of six straight. The A's, 43-27, haven't started a season this hot in 31 years. The Yankees are one game above .500 at home. They have lost seven of the past 10 at Yankee Stadium. The '27 Yankees they are not and Jameson Taillon - who goes today- is their worst starter. Taillon is 1-4 with a 5.74 ERA. That ERA climbs to 6.10 going back to Taillon's last seven starts. Oakland is averaging 7.8 runs during its past five games. Ramon Laureano, one of the more underrated all-around outfielders, is back in the A's lineup after being out 17 games due to a hip injury. James Kaprielian will be making his seventh big league start. This looks like a break-through year for Kaprielian, who is 3-1 with a 2.51 ERA. He's given up two runs or fewer in five of his seven starts. Just because the Yankees are the Yankees doesn't automatically mean they should be favored.

MLB | CLE vs PIT
Play on: OVER 8½ -120
Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach MLB Rotation #979 Friday Free Pick OVER 8.5 runs in Pittsburgh Pirates @ 7:05 ET - I like this play quite a bit but am worried about rain coming in as the game goes on and that could possibly shorten it. So that is why you are reading about it here rather than one of my premium plays. The Indians have been knocking the cover off the ball at the plate of late and the over is on an 8-2-1 run in Cleveland's last 11 games. Their starting pitcher, Jean Carlos Mejia, has struggled overall in his limited action this season so the Pirates should be able to have a rare decent game at the plate tonight. However, Pittsburgh starter Chad Kuhl is in for a major test with the Indians lineup streaking and Kuhl is 0-4 with a 6.52 ERA in his starts this season. The over is 6-1 in Kuhl's starts on the year. More of the same here. Free Pick OVER 8.5 runs in Pittsburgh

MLB | A's vs Yankees
Play on: A's +1½ -155 at linepros
Friday MLB Free play. My selection is on Oakland +1.5 runs over New York at 7:05 pm et on Friday.
The case could certainly be made for the A's to be favored in this matchup as they take their six-game winning streak into the Bronx for a date with the Yankees. I'll grab the extra run as insurance in a game Oakland is certainly capable of winning.
Rookie James Kaprielian has been terrific for the A's this season. He's had just one bad start in six turns in the rotation, that coming in a situation where he was starting on four days' rest in consecutive outings. He's bounced back nicely since, allowing just two earned runs in 11 innings over his last two starts. Kaprielian shouldn't be intimidated by starting here at Yankee Stadium after he pitched five quality innings in a 4-1 win at Fenway Park in his first career start earlier this season.
Behind Kaprielian is an A's bullpen that has been at its best on the road this season, posting a collective 3.21 ERA and 1.23 WHIP.
Jameson Taillon gets the nod for New York. As well as he has pitched here at home this season, the Yankees have still only managed to win three of his seven outings in the Bronx. While the A's have the advantage of having been idle yesterday, the Yanks were involved in a hard-fought 8-4 win over the division rival Blue Jays in Buffalo. Take Oakland +1.5 runs (8*).

MLB | STL vs ATL
Play on: UNDER 9½ -115
1* Free Sharp Play on Cardinals vs Braves under 9½ -115
The (UNDER 9.5) is worth a look in Friday's MLB action between the Braves and Cardinals. Big number here with how poorly St Louis is swinging the bat. Cardinals managed just 3 hits and 0 runs on Thursday. They have scored 2 or fewer in 5 of their last 6 games. All we need is a decent outing here from Cardinals starter Carlos Martinez to keep this below the mark. Play the UNDER 9.5!

MLB | White Sox vs Astros
Play on: White Sox -109 at BetCris
My free play is on the Chi White Sox at 8:10 ET. The White Sox and Astros opened a four-game series in Houston last night with the Astros winning handily. Houston scored three runs in the first and added four more in the third to lead 7-0. The Astros cruised from there to a 10-2 victory. Altuve hit his 16th HR (eighth in a 10-game span) and starter Urquidy produced another solid home effort (2.78 ERA and .192 BAA in six starts at Minute Maid Park). 43-26 Chicago still owns the AL's best record (3 1/2-games up on Cleveland in the AL Central), while 40-28 Houston closed within two games of idle Oakland in the AL West, winning for the 13th time in its last 17 games. The starting pitchers for Friday's game will be Chicago's Carlos Rodon (6-2, 1.89 ERA) and Houston's Luis Garcia (5-4, 2.98 ERA). This marks Rodon's seventh big league season and it has been a "breakout year" for the lefty. He pitched a no-hitter back on April 14th and opened the season 5-0 with a 0.58 ERA. He went winless his next three starts (0-2 / team was 0-3) but he's 1-0 over his last three outings (team is 3-0). He's looked to regain that early season form in his last two starts, allowing just two ERs over 12 innings (1.50 ERA) with 17 Ks. Houston's Garcia is still a rookie, as he made just five appearances in 2020 (one start), pitching only 12.1 innings. He did not pitch poorly to open the current season but after seven appearances (five starts), he was 0-3 and the team had lost all five of his starts. However, his ERA was a credible 3.60 in that span and from May 15 through June 6, Garcia won FIVE consecutive starts. He posted a 1.86 ERA and a .184 opponent batting average against with 33 Ks in 29 innings during the streak. He saw his five-start winning streak snapped at Minnesota this past Saturday, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits over 4.1 innings of a 5-4 loss. Garcia will make his first career appearance against the White Sox in this one while Rodon is 1-0 with a 1.95 ERA over five career starts (Chicago is 3-2) against the Astros and has compiled a 2.19 ERA in two starts at Minute Maid Park. I played the Astros last night and won 10-2 but I'll back Rodon and the White Sox in this one. Good luck...Larry
