Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

      June 28, 2021 | By Al Cimaglia
The headliners on the 12 race card at Yonkers are two-year-old trotters featured in New York Sires Stakes action. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 begins in Race 7, and that sequence will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

      Race 7

2-Just Plain Loco (3-1)-Paid $69 to win last week and will be a fraction of that price tonight but it was a big effort. Raced the back half in 55.1 and went 3 wide around the last turn and was strong to the wire. Steps-up but this is not a solid field of true $40k claimers, so will respect chances for a repeat.
6-Maroma Beach (20-1)-The #1 and #3 can leave but the rail horse is 0-6 here and faces tougher, #3 is 10-years-old, has missed 3 weeks and has never raced here before. So, will take a swing Joe B finds a close-up seat for this price shot and can be there at the wire.
7-Provocativeprincen (12-1)-This is the 1st start for Burke after a claim on 6-14. Old timer can still leave with some juice and has hit the board in 58 of 121 starts at YR with 19 wins. Fits with this kind and should offer a nice price.

      Race 8

2-Fine Diamond (5-1)-This 8-year-old is usually in the hunt, cashes checks at this class and did beat 3 from this crew on 6-14. Holland will need a good steer and does best work racing near the top of the stack. Both seem possible with this post draw.
6-Rockapelo (9/2)-Runner up in the Borgata Final has already banked over $222,000 this year. Has been resting since 4-19 but qualified well at Gty on 6-21. Could get the top if dialed on high. If this Burke trainee fires hot off the bench this could be the 11th picture in 38 tries at Yonkers.

      Race 9

1-Forever Fav (7/2)-Steps-up after finishing 2nd versus the $40k claimers. Could leave hard and get on the point or be no worse than in the pocket. Either trip could work. Could be hard to catch if gets on the engine and Joe B steals a quarter.
6-Uptown Funk (8-1)-Paid $42 last week versus this kind and caught a few breaks. The even money choice that day was #7, and he was parked for almost 3/4's of the mile before getting the top. Bartlett had this guy rolling but Rock Lights was getting towed up right behind and then fell. All that said, still rallied nicely and this is a spot to leave to get a close-up seat. Could be overlooked at the windows.
7-Dealt A Winner-Was bet down to even money and tried to leave last week but the fractions were lively. The trip took its toll and was able to cash only a 3rd place check in its first local start this year. This will be only the 3rd lifetime start at YR for this veteran class horse and it would be difficult to imagine getting a worse trip. Expecting better but could be another short price.

      Race 10

3-Alluneedisfaith N (4-1)-Just missed in a 149.4 mile at Phl and is in sharp form. Has won 5 times in 16 starts here and Bartlett will likely put this 7-year-old in play on the word go. Should be in the hunt with a top effort.
6-Semi Tough (9/2)-Burke trainee has been off since April after competing in the Borgata series. Got on the engine and qualified at Gaitway Farms in a snappy 151.1 on 6-21. This 5-year-old has hit the board in 10 of 14 starts here and has taken 6 pictures. If the fractions are honest Brennan could find a nice cover flow and roll by them all.

      $1 Late Pick 4

      2,6,7/2,6/1,6,7/3,6
      Total Bet=$36

        Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

        Parx Racing - Race #5
#5 Shahaada She tracked the pace before giving way in the debut run, but she can probably move forward with that race under her belt, and she might be able to turn the tables on the filly who beat her last out.
#7 Gia's Fuego She gets a great draw to flash some pressing pace after staying on well in the debut try. She looks like the one to beat, but she might be a bit overbet compared to the top choice.
#4 Super Duper Fly Debuter doesn't meet the deepest bunch in here, and she brings a bullet work with her to this debut run. Get a look at her on the track, but she won't have to be a star to land this.
Race Summary Shahaada and Gia's Fuego exit the same common race, and the former should offer a better price as she tries to get the better of the filly who outlasted her in that one.
        Parx Racing - Race #10
#1 Confessor He didn't show much in that first start off the claim, but he might land a pretty favorable race shape with this group where there are a couple of pace players lined up.
#2 Hopeful Treasure He was 99/1 in Grade I company last time out, so this softer spot offers some bounce-back hope. Tactical speed can spy and finish.
#5 Shanghai Superfly He has been landing some underneath shares with similar in recent starts, but I worry that he's going to be overbet with this group and still just as likely to land a piece as he is to score here.
Race Summary Confessor needs to bounce back here, but he's not far removed from some competitive races and might get a decent setup from a bit off the pace here.
        Parx Racing - Race #11
#1 Tall Ship He gets in with maiden claimers on the turf for the first time, and he was in the mix early last time out. Forward trip from the rail offers intrigue.
#7 Fog Bound He gets Lasix for this second lifetime start, and that gives him some room to move up here while meeting a softer group than he did in the Gulfstream debut.
#9 Auchincruive There are a couple of decent turf tries on the page, and one his better runs might be enough to land this. Second start off the bench might do it.
Race Summary Tall Ship is interesting at what might be a playable price even while dropping in class for this one. Something similar to that last one might leave him close to the pace again, and maybe he'll stay better with that first two-turn try under his belt.

          Jerry Shottenkirk's Daily Picks

          Indiana Grand - Race #3
#5 Hopped Up Wonn three straight before stepping up to allowance company and responded with a good second; makes his first turf start and looks like a winner.
#7 Prado's Playboy Has been a consistent closer in his four turf starts and will be rolling late.
#4 Flying Samurai Was a maiden win two back and ran evenly at this level last time; can get a good stalking trip and should not be ignored.
Race Summary Hopped Up is on a roll with looks to get back to winning after losing last time; big player.
          Indiana Grand - Race #6
#1 Indocumentado Won two of his last three and has been a solid runner on turf; stays on the grass and can reel in his opponents today.
#6 Leading the Charge Cruised to an impressive win last out and has found a home on the Indiana Grand turf; can adjust to pace and will be a factor.
#7 Baker's Man Was a clear winner in his last two and has figured out this game; won on each surface and will be a big threat on either.
Race Summary Indocumentado loves the turf and the company and can add another win to his record; tough going two turns.
          Indiana Grand - Race #9
#4 Rahway Was fourth in his latest at Churchill and has the class to run well in this spot; one to catch.
#1 Chainmail Finished well and won his last three at Hawthorne and overall has won three of his last four; is usually in close attendance of the pace and has a strong chance with a ground-saving run.
#6 Absolute Love Has some various streaks of phenomenal form peppered in with some not-so-good; makes her second off the claim for Sharp and is will be in the mix throughout.
Race Summary Rahway loves to get on the front end and likely will get to the lead here; able to dig in when challenged.

We like Croatia catching a full goal here on Monday against Spain.
Spain took a while to get going in this year's campaign, drawing their opening two games before a 5-0 beatdown over Slovakia to close out the final game of the group in Matchday 3.
They'll face a much stiffer test on Monday however against a Croatia side that have won two of the last three H2H's against the Spanish.
Croatia were unlucky to draw against Czech Republic in Matchday 2, giving up an incredibly soft penalty, but just like Spain, got things clicking in Matchday 3 with a 3-1 dismantling of a decent Scottish team in Glasgow.
I think Croatia can keep things tight here and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them push Spain into extra-time and cash this big +1 ticket on them.
Take Croatia +1 on Monday in their Round of 16 knockout game against Spain.

                  953 Philadelphia Phillies at 954 Cincinnati Reds -140, 9.5

The Philadelphia Phillies (36-39) have arrived in Cincinnati for a matchup against the Reds at Great American Ball Park. The contest is a makeup game from a rainout that occurred on June 2nd. The Phillies give the ball to young Spencer Howard (0-2, 5.59) to oppose veteran Wade Miley (6-4, 2.85).

Howard has shown the potential that the club knows he possesses. Howard's 5.59 ERA across 19 1/3 innings is somewhat decieving. Opposing lineups are hitting a mere .197 against Howard. His walk rate has been the young right-hander's pimple in late May and early June.

Wade Miley receives his 14th start of the season and is coming off a two-run seven-inning performance versus the Minnesota Twins this past Tuesday. The lefty's 62 strikeouts over 75 innings, his .213 batting average against, and a solid .328 slugging percentage in 13 starts make for a total play. Miley and Howard team up to limit the opposing lineups to a minimal offense output. Free Pick is a play Under the Bookmakers Total of 9.5 runs.

                    Danny Duffy vs Garrett Richards

Fat n Sassy Alert: Boston is coming off a 3-0 Sweep of their arch rival the NY Yankees and are ripe for a letdown

They will be facing Danny Duffy who has a ERA of 1.73 and a WHIP of 1.00 in 5 road starts this year.

Boston will be sending Garrett Richards to the mound who has been a complete train wreck this year and in his last 3 starts he has a ERA 9.82 and a WHIP 2.54

With the starting pitching edge in Kansas City’s favor and the fact I think Boston comes out flat after the sweep of the Yankees a 1st 5 Inning wager on Kansas City is the Play.

Tennis | Christopher O'Connell vs Gael Monfils
Play on: Christopher O'Connell -104 at pinnacle

                        Event: Wimbledon
                        Pick: Christopher O’Connell Moneyline
Monfils is playing with injuries and is lacking in confidence, he’s 2-8 for the season and he’s admitted to disliking grass courts.
Monfils plays better when the ball is bouncing higher, he doesn’t enjoy having to constantly bend to hit low bouncing balls and grass courts are tough on his body.
O’Connell is having a strong season at this level and played well in qualifying, unlike Monfils he’s fit and feeling confident in his game.
Can’t trust Monfils in this best of 5 set format given his lack of interest in grass court tennis combined with the likelihood that he’s carrying an injury.
