        Stronach 5

The Stronach 5 is on temporary hiatus with only 2 tracks from the 1/ST family in action.

Jeff Siegel's Primed and Ready List (July 8, 2021)

          July 8, 2021
Updated every Wednesday, the Primed and Ready List identifies five horses (listed alphabetically) that have recorded an outstanding workout within the past seven days and appear ready for a top performance. Workouts originate from Southern California (Santa Anita), New York (Belmont Park) and Palm Meadows (South Florida) and can be viewed by clicking the link included in the description or at xbtv.com. It is suggested that stable mail is utilized to alert when and where each horse is entered to race.

          CURIOUS INJI - (J. Mullins) July 4, 2021, Santa Anita, 5f, 1:01.3h
          View Workout

Under wraps every step of the way in solo training track drill, final half mile in :24.1 and :48.4, plenty left late. Unplaced in three career starts, most recently in a maiden claiming miler (stumbled badly at the start), but the daughter of Misremembered surely appears capable of better and seems likely to surface in a winnable spot early in the Del Mar season.

          HIGHESTDISTINCTION - (T. Proctor) - July 4, 2021, Palm Meadows, 6f, 1:13.2b
          View Workout

Sharp, eager, and strong through the lane in solo six furlong main track drill while finishing with plenty left, final quarter mile in :24 and small change, mostly on his own. Lightly raced, won his last pair (most recently at Delaware Park) on dirt with rising speed figures but has a pedigree that suggests he’ll handle grass as well. Remains on the upgrade.

          LADY MYSTIFY - (P. Eurton) July 4, 2021, Santa Anita, 5f, 1:00h
          View Workout

Never asked in sharp five furlong main track drill, final three furlongs in :11.2 and :35.3, plenty left late. Had nothing behind her when graduating by 18 lengths last time out and will get tested on the raise, but the daughter of Bernardini seems to be made of the stuff. Ready to step forward again.

          SEMPER FIDELIS - (S. Joseph, Jr.) July 3, 2021, Palm Meadows, 4f, :47.1h
          View Workout

Barn tends to let them roll in the a.m., but this lightly-raced son of Fast Anna was under cruise control throughout in sharp half mile main track drill, final three furlongs in :35 flat. Been away since December but appears to be returning better than he left and should be hard to beat vs. older maiden special weight foes.

          WIT - (T. Pletcher) July 4, 2021, Belmont Park, 5f, 1:01.2b TT
          View Workout

In company inside Lady Valentine (same time) in training track drill, breaking off a length in front and then finishing a similar margin ahead at the wire, some restraint early and then coasting through the lane (galloped out well, too) while clearly best. Practical Joke juvenile won at first asking impressively and seems likely to be seen in stakes company at Saratoga early in the season.

            Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

            Arlington - Race #5
#6 Hoodwink She's the only other speed outside of the likely heavy chalk, and she might be just quick enough to keep up with that one early. Riser is a reasonable alternative.
#4 Backside Beauty She'll be a deserving short price with some dangerous pace on the class drop, but she's not really heads and shoulders above some of these right now. Respect her, but I'll try to beat her.
#3 Ozette She has been no match for Backside Beauty in recent starts, and it's not like there is a ton of pace in here tonight that might give her a better setup to try and turn the tables on that one. Underneath.
Race Summary Hoodwink and Backside Beauty look like the only real speed in here, and Hoodwink draws outside of 'Beauty with a great speed rider up. Prompt and finish?
            Arlington - Race #6
#5 Tough to Tame He has an experience edge on most of these, and the Davis barn is one of the rare non-Rivelli teams to land a race like this in the last few years. He caught a tough winner last out and can be a big threat with any move forward. Playable price with a Rivelli signed on?
#7 Richie's Palace This team has dominated short 2yo maiden sprints like this in recent years, striking at 42% (with a negative ROI -- they're always bet). Most of the winners come in looking a little sharper on the worktab than this guy does, so he might be the right kind of guy to stand against.
#8 Mr Creed Walsh barn rarely starts this kind, but she seems to be working forwardly enough ahead of this debut and can probably be in the picture with these.
Race Summary Outside of the Rivelli barn, there isn't a ton of short 2yo firepower in here, and I'm not sold that Richie's Palace fits the mold of a debut winner from that barn. Top choice Tough to Tame might even vie for favoritism, but the hope is Rivelli's presence keeps the price fair.
            Arlington - Race #8
#3 New Year Surprise Impossible to trust a wildly inconsistent barn, but I'm willing to hope this guy gets back to his debut run today while moving back to the turf. He made a very early move into what pace there was in that race, and he was passed late by the horses who waited a bit longer. For a better barn he'd be best bet material, but he'll be very prominent on my plays all the same.
#6 Eye of the Cat He's the one to beat on form, but I'm not sure he has a ton of appeal at what might be a price that's slightly too short. Still, he moved into the splits and stayed on well in the turf debut and can be tough with something similar.
#2 Coni's Coup This team has done some of the better work in similar races in recent years, and he should debut at a fair price with some mild works under his belt.
Race Summary New Year Surprise is very tough to trust, but he has some intriguing upside on the move back to the turf. Tavares rode one of the barn's two winners so far this meet, and maybe he gets this guy home today.

              Woodbine-Mohawk Park - Race #3
#4 EMERALD WINGS Needed one race, might not need another to graduate.
#7 FULL OF MUSCLES Check-getter as 2yo, turned heads with qualifying romp.
#1 JMR NIKMOS Has speed, rail and Filion, held for minor share in 3 of last 4 starts.
Race Summary Emerald Wings secured 3-deep, rail position with a good early burst from post 9, stayed inside while the outer flow developed, then finished willingly between rivals late. Expecting a move forward in his second start, so play 4-1 and 4-7 exactas.
              Harrah's Philadelphia - Race #6
#3 JOE EXOTIC Broke stride as fave, seeks duplicate of race two back.
#4 DRAVEN HANOVER Tries to end recent bout with seconditis.
#6 SPEED GOO ROO Faded in faster division of split race, three thirds prior.
Race Summary Joe Exotic, second to a 3-to-5 runaway two starts ago, broke stride as the favorite in a follow-up try on a sloppy track. He's 0-22 but he can bounce back at a better price in a weak field at this level. Play 3-4 and 3-6 exactas.
              Yonkers - Race #1
#2 FREE EXCHANGE Improved second start back, faces better, worth a longshot stab.
#5 SCANDALICIOUS Set fast pace to the stretch before tiring as the favorite at this level.
#1 ITS MESMERISE N Invader seeks third straight victory on the class hike, draws rail.
Race Summary Free Exchange steps up in class with a 1-31 record since 2020, but his last start was good enough to win here at a good price. He followed the pocket-pulling winner after the field raced single file for 3/4s of a mile and finished a clear second. 2-1 and 2-5 exactas.

                Indiana Grand - Race #4
#6 Justa Simple Girl Turned over a new leaf last time when she ran well without the lead; she stayed for second and can win it if she runs the same kind of race.
#2 Everyotherwon Can get to the front end and she comes out of a two-turn race; can be tough all the way.
#7 Cecilia's Hope Put it all together and opened a long lead last time and held on; will be a factor from the beginning.
Race Summary Justa Simple Girl can opt for the perfect trip just off the leaders and is in a good spot to finish well and get it done.
                Indiana Grand - Race #7
#11 Silky Warrior Was claimed for $75K by the Hiles stable last out and was second two races back; has a good chance to close well vs. these.
#6 Bernadette the Jet Went long for the first time in her latest and held on well for second; can be a factor throughout this one.
#5 Fayette Blue Held on for third at Keeneland three races back and will be tough if she runs back to that one.
Race Summary Silky Warrior gets a good pace set up and can close strongly in this spot.
                Indiana Grand - Race #9
#7 Miss Tourista Ran fourth last out Belmont and moves over to the Brisset barn; hasn't run a bad one in five trips and can prevail here.
#5 My Candy Girl Ran an even third in a starter allowance here and could improve in her second over the track.
#2 Elke Do Jaguarete Broke her maiden at Woodbine last fall and does her best from well back; can finish with interest.
Race Summary Miss Tourista has performed well in some good races and lands in a perfect spot.

                      # 5 EDDIE AND THE KING 5/1
                      # 2 SHIFTY DANCER 9/5
                      # 6 ON THE WINGS OF 9/2
EDDIE AND THE KING looks formidable to best this field. Is worth looking at and may be a wager - strong speed figures (77 average) at today's distance and surface recently. His 71 average has this gelding with among the most respectable speed figures for this race. Cruz will probably be able to get this gelding to break out quickly for this event. SHIFTY DANCER - Demonstrates the look of a money-making play, averaging a solid 73 Equibase Speed Fig which is one of the strongest in this field. Has quite good early pace and ought to fare admirably against this group. ON THE WINGS OF - Must be given consideration given the class of races run lately. Has performed soundly lately in route races, posting a nifty 66 avg Equibase Speed Figure.

                        Race 7 - Allowance - 300y on the Dirt. Purse: $6000 Class Rating: 76

QUARTER HORSE 300Y, FOR CERTIFIED NORTH DAKOTA BRED THREE YEARS OLD AND OLDER. THREE YEAR OLDS, 124 LBS.; OLDER, 126 LBS.

                        # 3 THERE HE IS GONE 8/5
                        # 4 RAMBLIN V EIGHT 5/2
                        # 2 TEXAS EYE 8/1
I think THERE HE IS GONE is a formidable choice. Has been running quite well lately and will probably be up near the front end early on. Could beat this group given the 75 Equibase speed fig earned in his last outing. Overall the speed figures of this horse look quite good in this outing. RAMBLIN V EIGHT - Boasts strong speed figures on average overall when matched with the rest of this field. This animal is highly ranked this group of horses in earnings per start at the distance/surface. TEXAS EYE - Have to consider solely on class, with some of the strongest class numbers of this field. He has earned formidable figs under today's conditions and will most likely fare well against this field.

                          #2 SOUTHERN SPIRIT (ML=5/1)

SOUTHERN SPIRIT - Gelding's finish positions keep getting better with each race. Maybe today's the day. I think this gelding is very fit right now. I like the fact that Rivera brings him back to a race so quickly. Recent speed figures show strong pattern of improvement. Have to give this gelding a good chance. Ran a nice race last out within the last month.

                          Vulnerable Contenders: #6 SMOKIN HOT ENERGY (ML=2/1), #1 POWER SONG (ML=3/1), #4 LOVEATTURKEYCLUB (ML=7/2),

SMOKIN HOT ENERGY - I don't normally play a probable favorite that hasn't been to the track in the last 3 weeks. There may be a set back this time around, after the strong exertion in the last race. POWER SONG - The speed fig in the last race doesn't fit very well in this event when I look at the Equibase class figure of today's contest. Mark this entrant as a likely underpriced equine. LOVEATTURKEYCLUB - Last ran on Jun 5th at Thistledown, finishing sixth. Not likely to advance off of that outing in today's race.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: #2 SOUTHERN SPIRIT is the play if we get odds of 1/1 or better

                            #4 PEARLY QUEEN (ML=9/5)

PEARLY QUEEN - Many positive 'vibrations' associated with this horse and her stable.

                            Vulnerable Contenders: #5 ORTINOLA (ML=8/5), #7 DEVILISH BEAUTY (ML=2/1),

ORTINOLA - I don't normally play a morning-line choice that hasn't been to the track in the last few weeks. Hasn't finished in the money in any short distance races lately. Improbable to see her doing it this time around either. DEVILISH BEAUTY - Doubtful for this thoroughbred to make a winning move with no recent success in a sprint affair. This horse doesn't have a conquering mental state. Repeatedly finishes second or third.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Putting our cash on #4 PEARLY QUEEN to win. Have to have odds of at least 1/1 or better though
