In series openers I usually lean Over especially in the later rounds. There's a bit of relief by both teams to make the next round and for the only time in the series there's not much pressure. Teams play fast and loose feeling each other out and the defense suffers. That all changes in game 2.
Now there is pressure on both teams. Game 1 will mean nothing to Milwaukee if they can snag game 2 and go back home 1-1 but they can not afford to lose again. The Suns are happy with Game 1 but they do not want to get on a plane heading to hostile territory coming off a loss. Also, the coaches have spent two nights dissecting defensive deficiencies and will make adjustments on rotations. Both teams will have a better defensive gameplan from the jump in Game 2 therefore the offenses should slow down a little.Comment

Free play for Thursday comes out of the American League Central as I think we see some runs scored in your Tigers-Twins first of four from Target Field with Tarik Skubal and JA Happ on the mound.
Detroit enters this series on a 6-1-1 Over run in their last 8 games played, while Minnesota has played Overs in 5 of their last 9 games.
These teams played a short 2 game set in early May at Comerica Park and both games landed Over. That includes a 7-3 final in which Skubal was on the wrong side of the won/loss ledger.
The Over is 5-3-1 for the last 9 meetings between the clubs dating back to last season.
For the season, Skubal is 9-5-1 Over the total in his 15 season starts, while Happ is 11-3-1 Over the total for his 15 season starts this year.

Tarik Skubal comes into this game in clearly better form than J.A. Happ. The Tigers lefty has won his last four decisions, and the Tigers have won each of his last four starts and are 6-1 in his last seven outings. Happ has been struggling badly. He's got the fifth worst WAR among all starting pitchers over the last month, and has in fact been pretty horrible since a decent April. Happ's OPS allowed was 1.047 in June and his first July start was terrible. Detroit is also playing better ball than Minnesota and the Twins are off what might be called a last hurrah series with the White Sox, which didn't go well. Pretty clear the Twins will be dealing at the deadline and that's never good for team chemistry. Decent adjustment by the oddsmakers in terms of prices on the improving Detroit entry when Mize or Skubal throws. But even in the even money range, I see the data indicating okay value on the visitors and I like the pitching matchup. Tigers to win the F5.Comment

Darvish failed to earn a quality start in his first July turn.
