Al Cimaglia: Woodbine Mohawk Park Early Pick 5 Analysis

The feature at Woodbine Mohawk rolls in Race 6 as OSS Gold 3-year-old colts and geldings compete for a share of a $155,000 purse. My focus will be on the 0.20 Early Pick 5 with a $100,000 guaranteed pool which starts the card.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 1

1-Tuckers Out (6-1)-Wbsb record is only 2-25 and hasn't raced since 4-1 but the qualifier on 8-17 was strong. Trotted the back half in 56.3 with a 27.2 last quarter and finished 3rd to Forbidden Trade. Looks worthy of a swing for those not wanting to single #2.
2-Spartan General (5/2)-Has won 2 of 3 and looked good doing so. Should be a main player if keeps minding his manners and the short field shouldn't hurt chances.

Race 2

1-Hes A Ladies Man (3-1)-Was bet in last and now takes a meaningful drop. Should be a player if minds manners. Makes sense to look for better versus this group but not sure starting from the rail will be a benefit.
4-Icey Shadow (5/2)-Comes off a maiden breaking score in its 1st start at Clinton and made every call a winning one leaving from the rail. Tries the big leagues but coming off a 157.0 mile on the smaller oval is something to not overlook.
7-Titanium Alpha (6-1)-Makes the 2nd start for the Walker barn and paced the back half in 55.3 leaving from post 10 last week. McClure takes a seat, and he can put this colt in play early in the mile and should offer a nice price.
8-Lyons Pride (9/2)-Filion returns, and he gets along with this son of Bettors Delight. This colt has raced from the back in Wbsb starts and has shown a nice closing kick. Looking for a more aggressive steer and to be in striking range at the top of the lane. The Beaton barn is batting 23% winners over the past 30 days and might be overlooked at the windows.

Race 3

1-Grandma Heidi (9/2)-Looking for McNair to get away no worse than 2nd and work the same type of winning trip as on 8-9. Could make the most of this post draw again and trip out at a fair price.
5-Warrawee Roo (3-1)-This 8-year-old has plenty of back class and is in sharp form. Slow starter can close in a hurry and the short field should help in snagging the 6th win in 19 starts at Wbsb.

Race 4

2-P L Opportunity (3-1)-Comes off 2 big efforts from outside posts and now looks for the 3rd straight picture. This will be a test but looks the best on paper and Henry has some options with this post draw.
7-Iglare Am (10-1)-Broke in last leaving from post 8 and has had issues in the past staying on stride. Risky play, but regular pilot JMac returns, and the price should be right. Appears to be better on a bigger oval winning 2 of 4 starts here.

Race 5

3-Vines To Heaven (8-1)-Comes off a dull try but the Moreau barn has had success with this mare before. Should relish the company and will look for a bounce back effort at a solid price.
6-Miss Rockadali (9/2)-Moves in a couple of slots after leaving hard from post 8 and faded down the lane to finish 2nd. That was the same result as the race before and both winners are not in this field. Recent form has been sharp and faces a beatable bunch.

Presque Isle Downs - Race #3

#3 Sok Fury	Price player has tables to turn in this one, but she took a really nice step forward in that second start and might still have better to offer. Chance.
#5 Village Queen	She hit the wire first at 3/5 with similar last time out before being DQ'ed, and while she looks tough on form with these, she had to work hard for that last one and is probably an underlay here. Willing to stand against on top, even though she's the clear one to beat.
#2 Unwanted Input	There are a couple of back races that stack up pretty nicely with these, but she is another who was well beaten by Village Queen last time out.
Race Summary	Sok Fury might be able to better sustain a middle move in this third lifetime start, and she is worth a price look in a race where the chalk has a license to be pretty tough.

Presque Isle Downs - Race #5

#7 Tringale	Gets the slight edge in a very tough race, as he has some positional pace and might be able to get the right kind of trip in a race with plenty of forward players but very little confirmed front-end burn.
#2 Mojo Man	He has been super sharp over synthetic footing in the past and should be finishing late, but I worry that he's going to be a bit overbet. Respecting -- and I'd want him on my tickets.
#6 The Connector	He might be quick enough to be right up on the splits with these, and he owns a few wins over the local footing. Logical player on the cutback.
Race Summary	Tringale has some proving to do on class, but his recent form is solid, and he should be able to find a really good first-over kind of trip with these.

Presque Isle Downs - Race #6

#6 Bourbon Blast	She'll rise to face winners after scoring in that first start with Lasix, and she might have a little upside in her second start around two turns.
#7 Niceno	Blinkers come off for the first local try, and while I respect the team, I wouldn't be too enthused about a short price here given her total lack of early pace.
#3 Midnight Bella	She's capable of something better than she showed last time out, but it doesn't feel like she'll offer a fair price in this spot. Underlay.
Race Summary	This one probably runs through Niceno, but she's a finisher who is going to give an early jump to Bourbon Blast, and that one should offer an attractive price.

Prairie Meadows - Race #6

#4 Always a Catch	Got a perfect trip and rolled past the leaders when asked; stays at the bottom level and can repeat.
#2 Sir Brahms	Hard not to give him heavy consideration after running second for $5,000; takes a class drop and can be close throughout.
#5 Jasiri	Lost by a next last out and can be from the start in this race that doesn't have a great deal of pace.
Race Summary	Always a Catch was ultra sharp last out and can outfinish this group.

Prairie Meadows - Race #9

#5 Shimmering Dream	Was second in her last two and can get over the top here; has won four over this strip and can outlast her opponents in this one.
#1 Dark Silence	Romped last out and was claimed by Martin; has been in the top stables and doesn't run many bad ones.
#3 Holdthatlove	Didn't fire on a good track last time out but had two straight thirds leading up to that one; solid player at the mile distance.
Race Summary	Shimmering Dream is knocking on the board and is in a good spot to get her first win of the year. She's had three seconds and a third in six 2021 starts and can be a stayer here.

Prairie Meadows - Race #10

#5 Matt's Honey	Gets a good trip just off the pace today and can win it with a strong rally.
#3 Social Circle	Was second in her last three and is a stablemate of the top choice (Martinez stable). Can ensure a good pace.
#4 Cyclone Sorority	Has the speed to battle for the lead and makes her first two-turn attempt; maiden score was impressive two races back.
Race Summary	Matt's Honey gets an ideal opportunity to close well against a face group that battle each other most of the way.

The Rossoneri no doubt over-performed last season and lost some key players in the off-season in the form of Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu, but we still see them having enough to overcome Sampdoria here on Monday night.
AC Milan have brought in Olivier Giroud to bolster their attack and they've won six of the last eight H2H's held in this venue against Sampdoria, so they'll be confident of a bright start here.
Take AC Milan to win outright on Monday against Sampdoria over in the Italian Serie A.

JAKARTA - If you review the PP's for this animal, you'll see she has recorded the top Equibase speed figure at the distance and surface. A repeat race in this event and this horse has a superb chance to win. Generally speaking, horses on Lasix for the 1st time should be considered. That's what we have here.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 VAULT (ML=5/2), #1 TROLLEY RIDE (ML=3/1), #6 FUNWHILEITLASTED (ML=9/2),

VAULT - This thoroughbred just hasn't looked sharp of late. TROLLEY RIDE - Finished fourth last time out. Would have to perk up to finish in the money in today's race. Unlikely that the speed fig she registered on July 26th will be good enough in this race. FUNWHILEITLASTED - This filly raced well on August 4th placing second, but hasn't even visited the track since then. Not really a good sign.

Overall the speed figs of this pony look strong in this race. CAP ROCK MINER - Overall the Equibase Speed Figures of this equine look solid in this race. Trainer has strong win rate (19 percent) at this distance and surface. END ZONE - Has been racing strongly in races of this distance, going 2 out of 5 under similar conditions. Will likely be one of the leaders of the pack going into the halfway point of the race.

Has to be given a shot based on the decent speed rating garnered in the last contest. MISS TEA BLONDE - Looks strong for the conditions of this contest today, showing solid figs in dirt sprint races as of late. With a quite good 59 Equibase speed fig last time out, will definitely be a factor in this outing.

BEEBE'S BEST BET - This gelding likes to stalk and the way things shape up here, he should get a 'dream' trip. Look for this gelding to run much better right here. Last event at Mountaineer Park finishing fifth on a muddy track is no sign of his true talent. SMOKIN CITY - I undeniably see good things for this magnificent animal right here.

NINJA - Difficult to bet on this horse today. Make him show you something in a short distance race before you play him in a race of 5 1/2 furlongs.
