  I was very close to making this an early 5 star in September. Arrieta (as well as the Padres) is not what they used to be in the previous seasons (or for SD, as they were earlier this year). Arrieta is 5-12 with a 7.13 ERA and a 1.78 WHIP, in his only start with SD he allowed 5 ER on 7 hits in just 3.1 IP, he is 3-7 @ night with a 8.80 ERA & a .333 opponent batting average. Even just in his L4 starts since the All-Star Break, Arrieta is an unbelievable 0-3 with a 11.15 ERA and…. A .479 OPPONENT BATTING AVERAGE. Urquidy, on the other hand, is 6-3 with a 3.38 ERA and a WHIP under 1.00. He is 2-0 in his last 3 starts, and even though he has been injured, this season Urquidy has been impressive @ night, going 4-0 in 8 starts with a 2.42 ERA and an opponent batting average of .174. The Padres haven’t faired well against top caliber RHP, and now with a struggling offense, things may get worse, they are 2-11 in the L13 games vs. a RHP w/ a WHIP under 1 when the line is > -115, and they are 1-4 in the FGS as a D vs. a RHP. The most remarkable thing is that the Padres have lost 10 STRAIGHT games as a dog vs. a RHP, and in those 10 games, SD only scored 4 or more runs 3 times (all 3 of those games were 4 runs) and they have only held opponents to less then 4 runs ONCE in those 10 games! While Houston is hot, especially in the opening game of a series, they know how to make a good first impression, going 12-2 in the L14 series openers on the road (including 9-2 in the L11 as a AF), and they are 21-7 as a F > -240 in the opener. The Astros are also 8-0 in Urquidy’s starts with a line between (-300) & (-105) and they are 6-2 vs. a SP w/ an ERA>6.00 when the line is < -110.
