FIFTY PLUS - Really think this mount is going to be very close at the wire. HUSBAND IN LAW - Looking at today's class rating, this pony is encountering an easier field than last time out at Tampa Bay Downs. This thoroughbred has increased his speed ratings from a fig of 62 to 66 to 73 in succession. This gelding's last speed fig is strong enough to score here, I'll play him right back in today's event.

Wednesday MLB Free play. My selection is on the 'over' between Baltimore and Philadelphia at 7:05 pm et on Wednesday.
We saw a low-scoring extra innings game between these two teams last night. In fact, the first two games in this series have produced just seven runs in 19 innings. I look for a different story to unfold on Wednesday, however. Keegan Akin mercifully gets trotted out for another start for the Orioles. He's been awful regardless where he has pitched this season but has been particularly bad on the road, posting a 8.64 ERA and 1.94 WHIP in 10 starts. He's averaging just over four innings per start on the road and that's a major concern as the Orioles bullpen continues to struggle having recorded a collective 4.60 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with three blown saves over their last seven games. Note that the 'over' is 26-11 with the Phillies coming off two or more consecutive 'under' results over the last three seasons with those games averaging a total of 10.7 runs. The 'over' is also 43-24 when the Orioles come off consecutive games in which they scored three runs or less over the last two seasons, as is the case here, with that situation producing an average total of 11.2 runs. While Zack Wheeler has been terrific for the Phillies this season, it's worth noting that they're giving up an average of 5.5 runs per game after allowing two runs or less this season with that situation coming up 37 times previously, good for an average total of 9.3 runs in that spot. Wheeler will also be starting on just four days' rest for the second time in his last three turns in the rotation. Take the over.

Two of 2021's most disappointing teams cap a brief two-game IL series Wednesday night at Wrigley Field. Both the Minnesota Twins (AL Central) and Chicago Cubs (NL Central) won their respective divisions in 2020 but the Twins take the field on Wednesday just 66-85, while the Cubs check in at 67-84. The Twins snapped a two-game losing streak Tuesday, collecting 16 hits in a 9-5 victory.
Wednesday's starters are Minnesota rookie Joe Ryan (1-1, 2.12 ERA) squaring off against Chicago's Kyle Hendricks (14-6, 4.81 ERA). Ryan lost his major league debut to the visiting Cubs back on Sep 1, allowing three runs and three hits in five innings, Ryan has then limited the Cleveland Indians to one run and four hits over 12 innings over his past two starts. Hendricks' 4.81 ERA is 1 1/2-runs higher than his career mark of 3.36 but he's been able to post 14 victories, just two wins shy of his career-best total of 2016. Hendricks went 16-8 with a 2.13 ERA in 2016, the year the Cubs finally won a World Series for the first time since 1908!
Hendricks has struggled at Wrigley Field in 2021, going 6-4 with a 5.28 ERA, while allowing 17 HRs in 87 innings. He hasn't earned a victory at home since July 9 but this is likely to be his final home start of the season. Cubs Win! Cubs Win!

We cashed a big pay day with our free pick on the Cardinals (+196) yesterday. I got another big dog that I think has some serious bit on Wednesday. The Rockies are sitting at +192 at home against the Dodgers. I know LA is playing great and are the only team with something to play for, but this Rockies team is fiesty at Coors Field and will definitely be up for this series.
Dodgers will have Walker Buehler on the mound. No question, he's been one of the best starters in baseball this year, but I think he's feeling the pressure of winning that Cy Young award. His new teammate, Max Scherzer, has all but stole it from him. He's got an ugly 6.19 ERA and 1.500 WHIP in his last 3 starts. With how much he's pressing and how tough it is to pitch at Coors Field, I think he could struggle here.
One guy that has figured out how to pitch effectively at Coors Field, at least for this season, is Rockies starter German Marquez. He's 8-2 with a 3.16 ERA and 1.096 WHIP in 16 home starts. Colorado has a 13-3 team record in those 16 starts. Marquez has not been intimidated by LA, as he has a 2.52 ERA and 1.088 WHIP in 10 career starts vs the Dodgers. Give me the Rockies +192!
