In the only 2 road losses, the hosts won the game by just a single goal. In other words, if you played the road team on the puck line at +1.5 goals you won all 8 of your bets! Perfect 8-0 cashed in at the counter. That said, the price on this one dropping to the -145 range on the puck line certainly puts it in a playable range especially considering the 8-0 run. Coming into this season the Canucks are predicted to be only slightly behind the Oilers in season point total projections. That said, there is solid line value here with underdog Vancouver. As we saw last night, the dogs could be barking early this season. The Penguins won big outright against the Lightning and TB is trying to win a 3rd straight Cup! The Kraken came into the league by getting the cash on the puck line at +1.5 goals in a hard-fought loss at Vegas against a quality Golden Knights team. No Nathan MacKinnon due to his being put in COVID-19 protocol. But I still see more than six goals being scored here. The Blackhawks appear faster on paper. They have one of the best scoring lines in hockey with Patrick Kane, Alex DeBrincat and Tyler Johnson. Chicago also will receive a huge boost as Jonathan Toews and his career 345 goals is expected to play for the first time in 19 months. Colorado is weaker in goal having let Philipp Grubauer leave in free agency. The Avalanche led the NHL in scoring at 3.5 goals last season. Chicago was a bottom-seven defensive team. Colorado enters the season having scored at least 3 goals in 14 of its last 19 games.

Winnipeg took out Edmonton in four games in the first round of the NHL Playoffs last season but then got swept by Montreal in the second round after finishing in third place in the North Division. Defense was a big problem with the exception of goaltender Connor Hellebuyck and the Jets shored up the defense this offseason by acquiring Brenden Dillon and Nate Schmidt from the Capitals and Canucks respectively. Hellebuyck has the eighth-best save percentage among goalies who have played at least 3,300 minutes over a two-year period. Anaheim finished with the second fewest points in the league last season with 43 and while it was competitive on the road, the Ducks were just 6-18-4 at home. While defense was the issue with Winnipeg last season, offense was the problem for the Ducks as they were dead last in the NHL with a mere 2.21 gpg. They were also last in the NHL in the man advantage at 8.9 percent. They will be relying on a lot of young players so it will take time shake it out. Play (59) Winnipeg Jets

Wednesday NHL Free play. My selection is on Colorado over Chicago at 10:05 pm et on Wednesday.
We've seen this price fall into a more reasonable range with the news that Nathan MacKinnon will miss the game after testing positive for Covid-19. Even without MacKinnon, the Avalanche are still the superior team and certainly don't lack the depth needed to pick up the slack in Nate's absence. The last time I checked, Colorado still boasted the likes of Cale Makar, Garbiel Landeskog and Mikko Rantanen. The Blackhawks remain mired in a bit of a unique rebuild. They added star goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury in the offseason but that's certainly not an all-encompassing fix. I still anticipate plenty of growing pains for Chicago this season and this is obviously a difficult away date to open the season. Take Colorado.
