In one of the most puzzling results of the season, ULM stunned a Liberty team that had won 15 of 17 games and came in favored by 32.5 points. The WarHawks legitimately got stops against a future NFL first-round pick in Flames QB Malik Willis and got a late 53-yard field goal from kicker Calem Sutherland to pull off a shocking upset. ULM had lost 40-7 at Liberty under the previous regime, so Terry Bowden, Rich Rodriguez and Zac Alley, the youngest defensive coordinator in the FBS, can go ahead and take a bow. We’ll see whether they’re able to keep their roster from losing focus, but it should help that there’s no travel involved as they’ll get right back out there in Monroe to welcome in South Alabama. The Jaguars routed Georgia Southern 41-14 last week and look like the Sun Belt West Division’s second-best team outside of the Ragin’ Cajuns. Any hope of South Al overlooking ULM and taking the home team lightly went out the window once first-year head coach Kane Wommack and his staff pop in the tape of last week’s upset of the Flames, but this is a case where both teams have defenses that should dictate. Expect the low side to prevail on a total of 51

The Utah Utes hosted the Arizona State Sun Devils a week ago and after performing like they were half asleep the team went into the locker room for intermission trailing 21-7. The eye test told me that Utah was done. They had no pep in their step nor did they appear to be interested in the game.
The Utes kicked off the 2021 campaign with consecutive losses to BYU and San Diego State. The grade that the Salt Lake City groupies received for their first two September performances was not good but the troupe stayed the course and have won three straight since. As mentioned, their latest against a ranked Arizona State.
The Beavers are preparing to welcome the Utes for a Saturday matchup that figures to be a good one. After trailing by 14 at halftime and appearing dead in the water the Utes players rallied for a 28-point halftime score fest leaving the Sun Devils to wonder what hit them. *3 Star Free Pick* The Clemson Tigers are 0-6 ATS this year. Everyone keeps waiting for Clemson to turn things around quickly, but at this point I have to take this team at face value. Clemson is a talented team with potential, but they consistently have been weak. The Tigers had a bye week to get ready for a mediocre Syracuse team and Clemson was fortunate to hold on for a 3 point win. Syracuse averaged 5.3 yards per play and Clemson averaged only 4.3 yards per play.
Clemson is +0.57 ypp margin on the year and most of that comes from their blowout over SC State (FCS team) earlier this year. They have been outgained by most of their FBS opponents. Pittsburgh is +1.85 ypp margin (12th in the country).
Kenny Pickett has the highest PFF grade of any quarterback in the country. The Pitt offense ranks 15th in the country in success rate. The Panthers offense has been much better this season, and they should be able to move the ball enough.
The one weakness for Pitt has been their pass defense, but Clemson is shorthanded at wide receiver and they rank 122nd in explosiveness so far this year.

The Key: The Washington State Cougars are going to be without Nick Rolovich for the first time this season as he resigned instead of getting the vaccine. All sports teams tend to rally around one another in their first game without their head coach. I think that is the case for the Cougars this week. You're paying a tax to back BYU due to the turmoil surrounding the Washington State program. But Washington State has continued to play well and will this week, too. They have gone 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall with their only loss coming by 11 at Utah. They upset both Cal and Oregon State and covered as a short favorite against Stanford. BYU is reeling after losing 2 straight to Boise State and Baylor to really put a damper on their season. They are a tired team right now playing for an 8th consecutive week. BYU is 2-12 ATS in its last 14 games after allowing 300 or more rushing yards last game. They are also tired after giving up 303 rushing yards and 534 total yards to Baylor last week. Take Washington State.

The Clemson Tigers travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Panthers on Saturday afternoon. Clemson comes in with a 4-2 record on the season while Pittsburgh is 5-1 so far this year. Clemson offense has not been good at all this year. They are averaging only 13.7 points per game on the road this year where they have a losing record of 1-2. The Pittsburgh offense, on the other hand, has been very good averaging 172.5 yards per game rushing, 358 yards per game passing and a whopping 530.5 total yards per game this season. Pittsburgh is scoring 48.3 points per game overall, 56.3 points per game at home, 52.3 points per game past 3 games overall and 40 points per game against conference opponents. Clemson has been an underdog only once the past 3 years and they lost that game. I see the same here today and I’ll recommend a play on Pittsburgh minus the points in this one. In their four losses this season, Rice has been outscored 185-24. Granted, Arkansas, Houston, Texas, and UTSA are formidable foes. But so is UAB. The Blazers are picking up steam. With a 3-1 mark both SU and ATS over the last month, their offense is getting stronger and stronger with each outing. But it has been their defense that has stood out. Against the rush, the pass, total yards allowed, they are outstanding. Overall, their stop-unit ranks 21st, yielding just 19.0 PPG. Guys, the Owls only account for a paltry 16.0 PPG to begin with. Look for UAB’s stout defense to completely shut down the Rice offense. This will allow the well-balanced Blazers “O” to wear down the Owls “D”, move the chains at will, and light up the scoreboard. If you’re concerned about Dylan Hopkins status, don’t be. Even if the quarterback doesn’t go, backup, Tyler Johnston will be ready, willing, and able to fill in without skipping a beat. Rice is 0-5 ATS the last five games played at UAB, 1-4 ATS the last five games played on the road, 0-4 ATS the last four games played as an underdog, and 1-5 ATS the last six games played overall. My “Cutting Room Floor” plays are the situations I considered the closest to being worthy of investment but did not make the “final cut” for my official plays today for subscribers. The last play I cut for Saturday afternoon action was on the Washington State Cougars plus the points versus the BYU Cougars. Washington State (4-3) has won three games in a row after their 34-31 win against Stanford as a 1-point favorite last Saturday. That was the last game for head coach Nick Rolovich and four of his assistant coaches whose refusal to get vaccinated as state employees triggered their termination on Monday. Look for the players to rally around each other after the removal of the “do as I say, not as I do” coaching staff. As it is, Washington State has covered the point spread in 27 of their last 39 games after a point spread win. They have covered the point spread in 5 straight games in October. BYU (5-2) has lost their last two games after their 38-24 loss at Baylor as a 6-point underdog last Saturday. They have failed to cover the point spread in 5 of their last 6 games after a straight-up loss. BYU is also just 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 games when favored. Take Washington State plus the points.
