Al Cimaglia: Northfield Park Late Pick 4 Analysis

Northfield Park has a 14-race program set to start with the first post coming at 6:00 PM EST. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 begins in Race 11. The sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 11

4-Get The Cash (3-1)-Beat this kind on 9-12 and since then has been facing better. Has the gate speed to be forwardly placed. This 6-year-old is no stranger to the NFLD winner's circle, has won 26 of 85 starts here.
6-Enforce The Law (7/2)-Recent form has been dull but Wrenn returns. He hasn't driven this 4-year-old when in this cheap and this could be a wake-up call. Has won 7 of 24 in 2021 and like the one above, can leave to get a good early seat.

Race 12

2-He Can Fly N (4-1)-Comes off a nice try at this level from the 8-hole and should make the most of this post draw. Could get the jump on others off the gate and land on top or in the pocket.
4-Tick's A Yankin (7/2)-Winner of 2 straight and 8 of 33 at NFLD has the services of Merriman again. Will likely follow the same script and rally off cover. This is a tougher test but best to not overlook.

Race 13

3-Dragon Ruler (3-1)-Rhoades claimed on 9-19 for $17,500 and now drops in for $12,500. Merriman as usual will be steering and this 5-year-old could be dialed on high tonight.
5-Gotti (4-1)-Claimed in last at this class and now comes right back in versus the same. Clegg steers his own and should be a player versus this field.

Race 14

1-The Next Triumph (9/2)-Gets needed class relief, draws the right post to be a threat and should offer a fair price.
4-Seal Sniper (7/2)-Started the year out well but has been sliding down the class ladder for a few months. But finally, may have found a beatable field.
5-Dance Withsomebody (3-1)-This is another who should relish the company in a wide-open affair. Has hit the board in 29 of 58 starts at NFLD with 12 pictures.
9-Cherry Peep (2-1)-Winner of over $71,000 this year drops to a spot to shine. Would be an odds-on choice with a favorable post. The price will be better, and the trip will be a challenge, but Merriman knows how to win from this starting spot.

Parx Racing - Race #1

#6 Golden Essence	She should be tough here if she's able to repeat that last one when one stretching around two turns for the first time. Tactical pace leaves the rest of these running for second if she runs back to it.
#5 Justhappy	She hasn't been a threat in any of those three starts, and she's back in with special weight company this afternoon. Still think maybe the local crew will be a better fit for her?
#1 Blueberry Queen	She was no factor when racing evenly in that turf sprint debut, but she has a sort of miler's pedigree that should get her around two turns well enough, and a more leisurely tempo here may allow her to stay in touch early.
Race Summary	Golden Essence probably offers a short price to open the day, but she should be a handful with something like that first route try. There are a couple others in here with some upside, but they need to move forward in a big way to land this.

Parx Racing - Race #5

#3 Trupia	He turned in a really nice effort when debuting around two turns, and that somewhat difficult ask might set him up for something better with that race under his belt. Dangerous if he has any upside.
#5 Kodapendent	He turned in a good effort last time out with similar, and maybe he took a step forward while adding Lasix. Still, his form has been generally spotty, so I wouldn't want to land here at too short a price. Capable underlay.
#7 Rex Kwon Do	He has given away ground late in his sprint races, so not totally sure the move around two turns is going to work in his favor, but he should be right up on the splits early and might hang around for a piece.
Race Summary	Trupia and Kodapendent should be tough here, but the former may offer a slightly better price on the board while offering a bit more upside with just the one start to his credit. He's probably a touch shorter than the 3/1 ML price.

Parx Racing - Race #8

#5 Smooth B	Forward player can move up while getting back on the main track, as he's 0-for-10 on the turf in his career. The recent main-track running lines all stack up well here, and he should be in the battle from the start.
#7 Seanow	He's dangerous from close range as he brings a sharp pressing gear to this, and he turned in a decent effort when scoring in his only career try here. Worry that he's a bit overbet.
#1 New Commission	Don't think he's coming home on top, but he has a bit of appeal for me in the underneath spots while going second off the layoff and getting back around one turn. He might be able to hug the fence and save some ground.
Race Summary	Smooth B can be tough with his baseline effort, and he's getting down in class after a couple of stakes tries -- one of which came on the turf where he has never done his best running.

Indiana Grand - Race #1

#2 Sag Harbor	Has a great running style for this one and should be positioned just off a pair of ultra-quick pacesetters; can bring the late heat and fits very well here.
#1 Baytown Bear	Has plenty of speed and was claimed by Garcia last out; will apply pressure and once and will be tough on others attempting to get an early lead.
#6 Benny	Comes off a second vs. similar and can rally well on occasion; can be helped by the quick pace.
Race Summary	Sag Harbor has the tactical speed to stay in range and it looks like he has the kick to be effective vs. these.

Indiana Grand - Race #8

#2 King Social	Has won two of his three distance races and has the finishing touch to get it done here.
#3 Hazel Rah	Was an easy winner last time as he had his own way throughout; could get more pressure today, but he should still be taken seriously off his last one.
#4 Rockin All Night	Rallied well for second sprinting last time out and will well a return to two turns.
Race Summary	King Social won two races that there originally scheduled for the turf, and he ran well enough for his connections to just go straight to dirt. Has been impressive and fits well in this spot.

Indiana Grand - Race #9

#6 Brookville Deputy	Changed styles last time and came with a good late run; can adjust to any pace and is long overdue for his second win.
#5 Mr. Springtime	Whistled by four lengths in a maiden race last out and can be on or close to the lead against these state-breds.
#1 Shotgun Joe	Closed with a run for third last out and can be wherever he needs to be early; right in the mix here.
Race Summary	Brookville Deputy can get a good trip from the rail and is in a spot in which he should be very tough as he tries for his first win since June 2020.

Finger Lakes Racetrack Selections for November 8, 2021 – Horse Racing Picks

It’s the first week post-Breeders’ Cup on the horse racing schedule in 2021. The morning-line favorite, Knicks Go, won the Breeders’ Cup Classic on Saturday at Del Mar. Knicks Go pulled clear for an impressive statement win.

Bob Baffert’s Kentucky Derby winner, Medina Spirit, earned the team a pretty good payday by placing 2nd. In a $6,000,000 purse, 2nd still ends up leaving the Breeders’ Cup with a good prize.

Baffert had a strong winner in Corniche at the Breeders’ Cup in the Juvenile, and the future is bright for him. Overall, it was a good weekend for Baffert despite a lot of people believing he should not have been allowed to be there.

It’s a small card on Monday, but glad to see that Turf Paradise opens their meet this afternoon in the desert. For my first look this week, I’m going to Finger Lakes Racetrack in Farmington, NY. Head below for our free Finger Lakes Racetrack picks for November 8, 2021.

Race 2 is a 5 ½ furlong event at Finger Lakes for a $32,100 purse. This one should see Cinco Linko and Father Walsh go well in the stretch run.

Cinco Linko made his debut on October 26 and looked fine to finish 4th in a $32,100 assignment. He was coming off a 4-furlong workout with a time of 47.40 seconds on October 16.

Based on that workout, a little more was expected based on that effort. However, if Cinco Linko gets a full go in this one, he’s going to have a big chance to get a win as a sophomore runner.

Father Walsh from the outside has finished 6th, 5th, 8th at Saratoga and Belmont Park. He most recently went 8th at Belmont in a $90,000 race on October 24.

Father Walsh finished 5th on September 19 for a $75,000 purse. This transfer to Finger Lakes represents a big class drop. That should help versus weaker competition.

Since the loss in September, Party At Salt Lake has looked better in workouts. The mare was timed at 48.30 seconds at 4 furlongs on October 28.

Call Me Jelly Roll is 11 for 39 in her career, finishing 3rd, 1st, 1st in her previous three attempts. The mare won back-to-back outings on September 11 and October 22.

She beat Darling Daaher by 2 lengths for a $15,435 purse, and then 2 lengths in a $14,300 assignment. I can’t see a $12,600 assignment being too much to handle.

Saloon Girl is a three-time winner in 20 attempts, finishing 1st, 3rd, 2nd, 3rd in her last four outings. She beat Investment Grade by 6 ¼ lengths for a $17,300 purse on August 18, and then has gone close in three in a row.

Gone and Forgotten is 3 for 5 in her career, and has finished 3rd, 1st, 1st, 4th, 1st in five attempts. She defeated Twice Smitten by 1 ¾ lengths in her latest outing for a $25,900 prize.

This was after Gone and Forgotten finished 4th on October 12 in a $25,900 assignment. Despite the loss, Gone and Forgotten has won three of her last four attempts in this class. If she’s interested, expect her to have a big chance.

Indiana Grand Selections for November 8, 2021 – Horse Racing Picks

The Breeders’ Cup is in the books, including the $6,000,000 Breeders’ Cup Classic that went to Brad Cox’s Knicks Go. Medina Spirit had a solid run for Bob Baffert, but failed to keep up with the powerful Knicks Go.

The horse racing “season” might be over with the Breeders’ Cup, though there’s still plenty of horse racing to come in the winter. It’s a big step down in class for a little while, though. For instance, the biggest race next weekend in the US is the $150,000 Artie Schiller Stakes.

In comparison, the biggest race this past weekend was worth $6,000,000. We have two cards covered on Monday at Finger Lakes Racetrack and Indiana Grand. These are two of my go-to weekday tracks and have typically rewarded me nicely.

Murdo is 2 for 7 in his career, and has finished 1st, 7th, 1st, 6th, 3rd in his previous five attempts. He was a winner on July 21 for a $13,500 purse, beating El Piquin by 3 ½ lengths.

Following that win, Murdo finished 6th for a $15,500 purse and then showed 3rd on September 14 in a $12,500 event most recently.

Past Post is a two-time winner in six attempts, with a most recent score on September 1 for back-to-back wins. He’s gone 5th, 6th, 3rd, 1st, 1st in six races.

In his latest win, Past Post, defeated Highest Mandate by 4 ¾ lengths for a $13,500 purse. That was too easy.

In his latest outing, he placed 2nd behind The Gray Blur by ¾ lengths for a $15,500 prize on October 7. Down to the $12,000 level, Past Post must be considered for the win.

The fourth race at Indiana Grand is a $38,000 assignment covering a mile on the dirt. Tiz Abby and Timeless Glory should be the front runners in this one.

Tiz Abby is a one-time winner through 19 attempts. She’s finished 3rd, 2nd, 2nd, 4th, 3rd in her previous five assignments.

Tiz Abby most recently showed 3rd on October 5 for a $38,000 race. This was after 4th on September 16 in the same class. Expect Tiz Abby to run close enough to have a chance.

Timeless Glory is 1 for 12 in her career, with a winning run on October 5, 2020 so it’s been a while. She has gone winless in nine races since then, but this looks like a good opportunity.

In her last race, Timeless Glory placed 2nd behind Henrys Girl by ¾ lengths in a $38,000 event. An effort like that should be fine to go winning on Monday.

Race 8 is a 6-furlong assignment for a $40,000 purse on the dirt. Hazel Rah and King Social should be horses to watch in this one.

Hazel Rah is 2 for 11 and has finished 6th, 6th, 4th, 1st in his previous four assignments. The last effort from Hazel Rah on October 28 was a productive attempt.

He finished 4th on October 18 in a $38,000 event, and then came back ten days later for better. Hazel Rah defeated Gold Buckle by 5 lengths after taking over at the ¼ pole in the same class.

King Social is 2 for 5 and has gone 2nd, 5th, 1st, 5th, 1st in five attempts. He came on nicely for his second win on October 18.

King Social beat Flying Samurai by 1 ½ lengths over Flying Samurai and well ahead of Hazel Rah in the $38,000 race.

He also won on August 30 by 1 ½ lengths in a $36,000 assignment. This one looks like another good chance for a win.

Danny Burke’s Best Bet (VSIN)

Los Angeles Kings at Toronto Maple Leafs (-255, 5.5)
We’re starting to see 6s on this total between the Kings and Maple Leafs and I agree with the notion that this could be a higher-scoring game. This is a small play on a light card, but Toronto is averaging nearly 11 high-danger chances per game at 5-on-5 this season. The Kings are averaging 9.6 and Toronto is giving up an average of 9.7 per game. The Maple Leafs are not great in their own zone, but do generate tons of offensive chances.

Toronto’s high-danger save percentage is a bit high in my opinion, so that seems ripe for some regression. On the other hand, Toronto’s high-danger shooting percentage is low, as their actual Goals For at 5-on-5 is 21, but their Expected Goals For (xGF) is almost 28. We should get a lot of opportunities tonight, so I have a small play here on the over.

JIMTOWN - Hasn't run at today's trip recently but does have a speed rating notched last time he tried this distance good enough to win. This horse collects a lot of money per race around the track. Number one in this race. ONE CRAZY RIDE - Won his last after shipping in. I like him again. Gonzalez comes to ride again after getting to know the gelding in the last race. Strong return on investment for this jockey and trainer tandem. This gelding's last speed fig registered on October 25th is at the top in last race speed figures. VICTORY DIVISION - Faced tougher last race out at Belterra Park. Based on Equibase class ratings, this is a weaker field, so I will put this horse on my list of top contenders. This horse ran outside the top 3 at Belterra Park last out on a track listed as good. He should improve right here with the benefit of a fast track.

C K'S LUCKY DUCK - Hasn't been on the Mahoning Valley Race Course oval in the last few weeks. Cause for some concern. Can't bet on this entrant in today's sprint of 6 furlongs. Hasn't even finished in the money in a sprint event recently. KITTENS ADAIR - On a downward cycle. Equibase speed figs keep declining. A bit of a less than stellar effort when this gelding finished third. HOME RUN POWER - Finished eleventh last time out of the box. Would have to perk up to hit the board in today's event. All sorts of crazy speed signed up for this race. No chance for this early speedball.

A dominant effort today can increase the lifetime bankroll. 54-58-65 are last 3 speed figures. Improving each time out is something she should do again in this race. SILLY NOTION - Looking at today's class rating, this thoroughbred is meeting an easier bunch than last time around the track at Albuquerque. Outside the top 3 finish in the last race at Albuquerque was better than it looked on paper. She improved position in the stretch and never gave up.

MINI MAGS - That was just not a very good showing in the last affair. WAR MAIDEN - Run-of-the-mill fig in the last race at Arapahoe Park at 5 1/2 furlongs. Don't feel this runner will improve too much in today's event. WIN LIKE COACH P - If you keep playing these kind of 'bridesmaid' types, you're going to be frustrated regularly. Tough to like the downward spiraling flow (58/44/40) of speed ratings.
