Friday NHL Free play. My selection is on Philadelphia +1.5 goals over Carolina at 7:05 pm et on Friday.
The Hurricanes are coming off a big win in Tampa last time out while the Flyers got shutout by the Leafs, 3-0 on home ice. Here, I believe Philadelphia is well-positioned to at the very least take this one down to the wire, noting that the Flyers have won three of the last four meetings in this series and haven't lost a game by more than two goals in this series since March of 2019. Philadelphia checks in a perfect 8-0 in its last eight games when coming off a shutout loss, outscoring opponents by 2.0 goals on average in that spot. Also note that the Flyers are 11-3 when coming off a loss by three goals or more going back to last season, outscoring opponents by an average margin of 1.3 goals in that spot. As for the Hurricanes, they're just 17-23 when coming off five or six wins in their last seven games over the last 2+ seasons, as is the case here. They're also a poor 34-48 in their last 82 home games when coming off a one-goal victory on the road. The Flyers have yet to drop consecutive games this season while you'd have to go back five games to find the Canes last victory by two goals or more, and that came against the lowly Blackhawks. Take Philadelphia +1.5 goals.

I like backing the New York Knicks off a loss. Especially when they benched their starters in the 4th quarter and nearly came back and beat the Bucks last time out. Look for the starters to respond and for the Knicks to make easy work of the struggling Charlotte Hornets tonight. The Hornets are 1-5 SU & 1-5 ATS in their last six games with three losses by double-digits. New York is 30-8 ATS in its last 38 games with a line of +3 to -3. The Knicks are 18-8 ATS in their last 26 games off a loss. New York is 17-7 ATS in its last 24 road games. Charlotte is 2-7 ATS in its last nine games off a win. Give me the Knicks.

The Detroit Pistons picked up their second win of the season in a 112-104 victory at Houston on Wednesday. They had the previous four days off and will be playing just their 2nd game in 7 days. This extra practice time will definitely have benefited this young team, and I expect a big effort from them tonight.
It's time to 'sell high' on the Cleveland Cavaliers. They have gone 8-1-1 ATS in their last 10 games overall. But they have been an underdog in every single game this season. Now they are favored for the first time this year, and a 5-point favorite at that.
This despite the fact that the Cavaliers will be without their best player in Collin Sexton (16.0 PPG) and another top contributor in Lauri Markkanen (12.9 PPG, 5.9 RPG). There will be value in fading the Cavaliers in the near future, especially tonight.
The Cavaliers are 31-66-1 ATS in their last 98 games as favorites. Cleveland is 20-46-1 ATS in its last 67 games as a home favorite, including 1-10 ATS as a home favorite over the past three seasons. They have expectations now that are going to be hard to live up to. Bet the Pistons Friday.

This is a play on the CLEVELAND CAVALIERS for our Friday Free Play. Detroit is coming off its second win of the season as it defeated Houston and that was its first road win after four straight losses away from home that were by an average of 16.8 ppg. The Pistons are last in the NBA in Effective Field Goal Shooting Percentage on offense and their two wins have come against teams that are a combined 4-19. We finally saw a Cade Cunningham sighting against the Rockets as he finished with 20 points on 8-for18 shooting with a career-high four three-pointers but there is no reason to believe he has turned a corner as he still looks far from being a dominant No. 1 overall pick. The Pistons are 1-7 ATS in their last eight games against teams with a winning straight up record. Cleveland had a four-game winning streak snapped with a three-point loss against the Wizards but it stayed within the number and it remains home where it is 2-2 on the season. The Cavaliers are shooting 47.7 percent at home which is fifth best in the league and that success should go on here as they look to bounce back in their first game that they have been favored in this season. There is a reason for this as Cleveland has played the No. 5 hardest schedule in the NBA so the fact it is two games over .500 make it even more impressive. The Cavaliers are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 when their opponent scores 100 points or more in their previous game. Here, we play on favorites of 3.5 to 9.5 points with a winning percentage between .501 and .600 coming off a home loss, playing a team with a winning percentage of .250 or worse. Taking the Coyotes +1.5 goals for a Free Pick here...
First, the Blackhawks are not good and should never be favored by this much over anyone in a sport where the bounce of a rubber puck can be the difference between a win and a loss. How many times this season have we seen a team get completely dominated on the ice but go on to win the game? I'll answer -- too many times.
It's not far-fetched to see the Coyotes outplaying the Hawks in this game either. They're 3 spots ahead of the Blackhawks in expected goals at 5 on 5 (Chicago is dead last by far), and have a 7% advantage in medium danger chances. The Blackhawks do have the advantage in high danger chances by 2.5% however, but it's a small edge for a price like this.
The Blackhawks were completely outplayed by the Penguins last game in what looked like the Fleury revenge tour. The "expected score" based on shot quality and scoring probabilities was 2.78 to 1.24 for the Penguins. Basically, Pittsburgh should have won that game 70% of the time, but they lost in a shootout.
Coyotes can win this game outright. Crazier things have happened just this week. I'll take the puckline for extra insurance.

Both teams are a mess. Yet, Chicago is a fairly heavy favorite on the moneyline. That provides us the opportunity to grab an extra +1.5 goals with the Coyotes, for a relatively reasonable price. With Chicago off b2b 1-goal wins, the extra +1.5 goals could prove invaluable. Keep in mind that Chicago would be 1-13 on the season, if being asked to 'cover' -1.5 goals each time. Three of the past four meetings have been decided by a single goal and the other was a 5-2 Arizona win. Plug your nose and consider Arizona on the puck-line.

The Hubert Davis era at North Carolina opened with a win as the 19th-ranked Tar Heels topped Loyola Maryland, 83-67, at home. But the 16-point victory couldn't have pleased all of the North Carolina alumni because the Tar Heels failed to cover a 24 1/2-point spread.
Now North Carolina is laying fewer points against a rusty, middle-of-the-road Ivy League school, Brown.
The Tar Heels are loaded with talent again. So while the jury remains out on Davis, I can see North Carolina running up a big enough score on this opponent to cover this lopsided margin.
Remember that the Ivy League season was cancelled last year. This is only Brown's second game in two seasons. It's the Bears' first against legitimate competition. Brown met Salve Regina in its first game and won, 89-59. Salve Regina is a private school in Rhode Island with an enrollment of fewer than 2,700 students.
The Bears were projected to finish fifth in the eight-team Ivy League in the preseason media poll. Brown's leading scorer from last season, Brandon Anderson, graduated.
