The NFL Comp play is on Carolina at 1:00 eastern. The Panthers fit 2 different systems here today one is to play on home favorites of 5 or less that are off a road dog win vs a team like Washington that is off a home dog win. Washington also fits a secondary play against system that goes against teams that are off a win vs a defending Super Bowl Champ. Carolina has covered 5 of 6 after allowing 150 or less pass yards and 5 of 7 off a win 14 or more. Carolina has covered 5 of 7 in the series and we will back then to get the cover today. Rotation #452
Browns -12.5 over Lions
The good news for the Lions is they won’t go 0-17 this year as they grabbed against the Steelers last week. The bad news is everything else about them. Jared Goff is out today so we will see Tim Boyle get his first start. There is nothing about this offense that gives you confidence heading into a road game in possible wet conditions. The offensive line isn’t very good and will have to deal with Myles Garrett and friends today. The Browns should be able to stop the run and pass to hold the Browns to a low point total. Cleveland was beat up last week and draws the perfect opponent for a get right game. Nick Chubb returns and Johnson has been a nice surprise as well this year. This Lions team isn’t good against the pass so I expect the Browns to have the ability to be balanced on offense and to put up points. Cleveland should control the clock from start to finish and win this one big. Take the Browns.

Saints/Eagles Under 43
There isn’t many games in the 2021 NFL era that have defenses 10X better than the offenses, but this is one of those games. The Saints are on their 3rd string QB, missing their best running back in Kamara who is also a great pass catcher, missing tons of receivers and are banged up on the offensive line. The Eagles don’t have the best skilled players on their offense and Jalen Hurts is still trying to get to the next level of being a decent QB. The Saints have a top 10 defense that should keep this team in check. The Eagles also have a ton of experienced and defensive talent that should take care of this banged up Saints offense. Look for a low scoring field goal kicking game. Take the Under.

Texans +10 over Titans
The public money is heaviest today on the Titans and really who could blame them, but this Titans team let a banged up New Orleans offense get some scores so I see the Texans doing the same thing. Tyrod Taylor isn’t the best QB in the world, but he brings mobility to the table and that is hard to defend. The Titans secondary is very thin right now and the corners are nothing to write home about. The Texans have the offensive players to get open. The Titans bread and butter is running the ball. Adrian Peterson is filling in well for Derrick Henry, but he isn’t close to the talent Henry is. The Titans identity is King Henry and with him out of the lineup anything can happen. Remember the Jets game this year? Another negative thing for the Titans today is 3 of their top 4 linebackers are out this game today. Tim Kelly is a young offensive coordinator that should be able to attack this Titans Defense. Take the Texans.

Bengals/Raiders Over 50.5
The Bengals needed the bye week as their secondary was getting torched and Joe Burrow was looking more like a young QB, but today they get a Raiders secondary that isn’t up to par with NFL talent as injuries have taken a toll and Burrow can have a field day today throwing the ball to his great receivers. The Raiders were exposed last week by the Chiefs and there really is no reason for teams to do exactly what Kansas City did if they have the talent to do so. The Bengals have that talent. The Raiders should be able to do anything in the air right back to the Bengals as they have struggled in their secondary. This should be a fun game in perfect conditions. The Raiders are trying to get over the conflict in and out of their locker room over the last few weeks. The Bengals are a decent opponent to try to get back into the winners circle. This should be a good high scoring game. Take the Over.

Rotation #475-476
Steelers/Chargers Over 47
Big Ben should be back in the lineup today, but the bigger news is this front seven for the Chargers. Covid has hit the group hard and there is no way they are going to stop an NFL offense today. The Chargers also are banged up in the secondary and that defensive side of the ball will look more like a preseason team. The Steelers need a big day on offense and will never get a better chance than today. Justin Herbert has cooled down a bit, but can get back on track against a Steelers secondary that has been weak this year and this defense just won’t be the same without TJ Watt in the lineup. Both teams have defensive injuries that should have the opposing offense marching right down the field. Take the Over.
PROFOOTBALLDOC (2-2-1 last week, 27-22-1 for season)
SIC Score is our proprietary numerical injury grading system that incorporates the health of every NFL team and individual players to give sports bettors, DFS players and fantasy owners an edge each week during the season. While it purposely doesn’t take into account coaching, schemes or matchups, SIC Scores give an accurate assessment of team/player overall health heading into a game.
PHILADELPHIA -2.5 vs NEW ORLEANS
The Eagles are on the rise as a team including their defensive overall health. Solid tailback Miles Sanders should return from his ankle sprain which should improve the Eagles rushing attack. Meanwhile, the Saints are missing their top three offensive weapons (Alvin Kamara, Michael Thomas and Jameis Winston) and three key offensive lineman. This leads to the lowest offensive team SIC score of the season and an overall advantage of 16.1 for the Eagles. The under of 42.5 may also be in play according to the SIC scores. The lines have already moved having started at pick’em and 43.5.
JACKSONVILLE -6.5 vs SAN FRANCISCO
The 49ers come off a big Monday Night win over the division rival Rams where they were able to dominate by running the ball. In this matchup, the standout health advantage is in favor of the Jaguars. They sport an essentially fully healthy defense which is impressive this far into the season. I am not saying that Jacksonville is poised for an upset but have the belief there is a good chance to keep it to a one score game.
CLEVELAND -12.5 vs DETROIT
The Lions didn’t lose for the first time all season last week by tying the Steelers without their starting QB. This time it is Detroit without their starter. We foreshadowed that Jared Goff’s oblique issues could have him out this week on the ProFootballDoc podcast on Monday as heard here on Outkick. We had the wrong QB starting but is there really a difference between David Blough and Tim Boyle? The Browns get back Nick Chubb and this good be a “get healthy” game for Baker Mayfield with the Lions cornerback issues. Cleveland should run away with this one based on health. The line started at 10 when we indicated Goff was likely out but now the FanDuel line has climbed to 12.5.
CAROLINA -3 vs WASHINGTON
The Panthers are almost 20 points healthier on the SIC score scale. Christian McCaffrey is fully healthy, the defense is improved with Stephon Gilmore and there is new energy for this home game with Cam Newton starting. For Washington, their best defensive player in Chase Young was lost to an ACL tear last week. They continue with offensive and defensive healthy issues. Ron Rivera certainly knows how to defend Newton but does he have the personnel to execute it? This game also featured a line move from -2 to the key 3 number.
HOUSTON+10 @ TENNESSEE
In this matchup of the best team in the AFC versus the worst team in the conference, one might expect a double-digit blowout for the home favorite. However, in this case, the Texans are actually the healthier side by a SIC score of almost 15. Houston comes off a bye against a Titans team that will have to deal with key new loses on both sides of the ball. No question this makes us nervous but by the process, the Texans should cover and this veteran team comes off a bye. Other honorable mention picks include the Chiefs -2.5, the Chargers -5.5, the Seahawks -2.5 and the Bears +5.
