Syracuse opened the favorite. The market didn't agree. Now that visiting Indiana has been bet up to minus 3 I'm going to get involved with the Orange.
Indiana is 6-0 under first-year head coach Mike Woodson. Syracuse is 3-3 after going 1-2 in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament in the Bahamas last week. The Orange played VCU, Arizona State and Auburn in that tournament all in the span of three days. Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim admitted being in action three consecutive days was too much for his team at this early stage.
But now the Orange are back home and fully rested. They last played five days ago.
This will be Indiana's first road game. The Hooisers have faced a very easy schedule - all at home. St. John's is the only power-five program they've played. The Hooisers failed to cover a 4 1/2-point spread beating St. John's, 76-74. Indiana has been a double-digit favorite in all of its other previous games. Indiana finished last season 0-5-1 ATS on the road.
The Hooisers haven't encountered Syracuse's unique 2-3 zone defense. I'm anticipating the Hooisers to have turnover problems and trouble hitting 3-pointers.
Usually when Syracuse starts to get disrespected the Orange pull out an impressive win. I'll take a shot with them here in this home 'dog role.

Pitt is off to a tough 2-4 start to the season and enters Tuesday's clash with Big Ten foe Minnesota on a two-game skid. The Panthers looked like a deflated balloon coming off a blowout loss to Vandy, suffering a stunning double-digit defeat at the hands of Maryland-Baltimore County last time out. Expect a response from Jeff Capel's Panthers on Tuesday as they host Minnesota in a winnable contest before heading on the road for their ACC opener against Virginia on Friday. The Golden Gophers will be playing their first true road game of the season on Tuesday as they try to stay undefeated on the campaign. That's notable as they went winless in true road games last season, 0-10 to be exact (1-9 ATS). We can expect some regression to the mean in terms of both teams' defensive play. Minnesota has held its last two opponents to 32.8% and 31.7% shooting. Meanwhile, Pitt has been lit up over its last two contests, allowing the opposition to shoot 48.1% from the field. Noting that the Gophers are a miserable 19-40 ATS when coming off four ATS wins in their last five games while the Panthers are 12-2 ATS the last 14 times they've come off consecutive home losses, we'll back Pitt in this spot. Take Pittsburgh.

The last play I cut on Tuesday was on the Toronto Raptors minus the points versus the Memphis Grizzlies. Toronto (9-12) has lost two in a row after their 109-97 loss to Boston on Sunday. The Raptors have covered the point spread in 5 of their last 7 games after a straight-up loss. They have also covered the point spread in 5 of their last 6 when hosting the Grizzlies. Memphis (10-10) comes off a 128-101 win against Sacramento on Sunday. The Grizzlies have failed to cover the point spread in 4 of their last 5 games after a straight-up loss. The Memphis Grizzlies lost JA Morant to injury in their 100-132 loss to the Hawks. They came back with a great performance in their first game without him, beating the Kings 128-101 at home. But that was a banged up Kings team missing three key players. Now they take on a motivated Toronto Raptors team that is coming off two straight losses to Boston and Indiana. The Raptors will get back in the win column tonight against the Mortant-less Grizzlies. Their last win came 126-113 in Memphis on November 24th. This is a team they dominate, going 15-5-1 ATS in the last 21 meetings, including 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings in Toronto. Give me the Raptors.

I'm going to lay the 4 with the Raptors at home against the Grizzlies. Just like the buy low/sell high spot in this one. You got Memphis coming in off a 128-101 win and easy cover at home against the Kings as a 4-point favorite. The Raptors lost 97-109 as a 2-point dog at home to the Celtics in their last game. Toronto is also just 3-9 SU and 3-9 ATS in their last 12?
Why lay points with a team playing bad? It's not easy and a big reason why it's a small bet, but I just think the Grizzlies aren't getting priced appropriately with Morant out of the lineup. Keep in mind their win against Sacramento without him, was certainly aided by the Kings coming off of that 3OT thriller at the Lakers two days earlier.
I just wonder how a team as bad as the Grizzlies are defensively and without their best playmaker on offense, is going to win games against the road against average or better teams. Give me the Raptors -4!
