Thursday's Free NBA Pick is on the Toronto Raptors as a 4.5-point home dog against the Milwaukee Bucks. Everyone is laying the short number with the Bucks in this one. No surprise, given Milwaukee has won 8 straight and the Raptors are off a 91-98 loss at home to the Grizzlies.
This is more a play against the Bucks. Milwaukee got away with not playing their best and winning last night at home against the Hornets. Biggest thing for me is they fell way behind in the 1st quarter and had to basically play from behind the whole way. Will be tough for them to bounce back with the kind of energy needed to beat a hungry Raptors team that gets their first crack this season at the defending champs. Bet Toronto +4.5!Comment

This will be the 3rd meeting between the Knicks and Bulls in a little over a month. They are clearly familiar with one another, and familiarity favors defense and low scoring games. They combined for 207 and 212 points in the first two meetings, and I expect the 3rd to be the lowest-scoring yet.
The Knicks are a great defensive team and have allowed 104 or fewer points in eight of their last 13 games overall. They are 9-2 UNDER in their last 11 games overall as they have been struggling on offense, too. New York has scored 103 or fewer points in eight of its last 11 games, and 106 or fewer points in 10 of those.
The Bulls are improved defensively this season, which is a big reason they are one of the most improved teams in the NBA. They rank 7th in defensive efficiency. They give up 104.6 points per game and 44.3% shooting on the season.
The UNDER is 9-0 in New York's nine games following a loss this season. The UNDER is 5-0 in the last five meetings with combined scores of 212 or fewer points in all five. The UNDER is 21-6 in Bulls last 27 games after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game. Bet the UNDER in this game Thursday.Comment

I'm going to lay the 1.5 on the road with the Bulls. I just think this line is off enough that you got to Chicago. It just doesn't make sense that the Bulls are the favorite in New York and I think it's going to have a lot of people feeling inclined to back the Knicks. Keep in mind this is one of the two games on the NBATV double-header, so it's going to get a lot of action.
This is a tough spot for the Knicks. New York just played their hearts out in a crushing 110-112 loss at Brooklyn on Tuesday and they felt like the refs robbed them of a chance to win that game.
It's not just that game. Their last 5 games have all been big. It started with a game in Chicago, they then hosted the Lakers and Suns before playing the Hawks and Nets on the road. I just wonder how much fight this team has left in them after that loss to Brooklyn. Give me the Bulls -1.5!Comment

The line has been going down on this matchup, enough so where I now feel comfortable backing TCU at this current lay price.
The Horned Frogs are 4-0 at home. All of these victories have been by at least 13 points with the latest being, 68-51, against Austin Peay this past Monday.
Oral Roberts is coming off a satisfying, 87-80, victory against Tulsa at home this past Monday. The Golden Eagles are 4-3. They are a middle tier Summit League team that is 0-2 on the road. One of those defeats was to Colorado State, 109-80, as a 12-point 'dog.
The Golden Eagles are reliant upon hitting their 3-pointers. They have a good scorer in Max Abmas, who averages 22.3 points.
But I don't see Oral Roberts staying within single digits on the road against the Horned Frogs. TCU ranks third in the nation in rebounding and is tough defensively holding foes to 60.3 points.Comment

It's asking a lot of the Memphis Grizzlies to try and beat any team in the NBA by double-digits without their best player in JA Morant. Even the Oklahoma City Thunder, who will be playing the second of a back-to-back after a loss to Houston last night. But this is a young Thunder team that is still pretty fresh considering they will be playing just their 3rd game in 6 days. And it's a Thunder team that has been flying under the radar in going 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games overall. Oklahoma City is 6-1 ATS in its last seven road games. Memphis is 1-6 ATS in its last seven home games against a team with a losing road record. Give me the Thunder.Comment

Thursday NHL Free play. My selection is on Dallas over Columbus at 8:35 pm et on Thursday.
The Stars are quietly rolling along right now, winners of five straight games, not surprisingly with four of them coming at home where they've gone 7-3, outscoring the opposition by 1.2 goals on average. The Blue Jackets on the other hand are just 4-5 on the road and have probably played even worse than that record indicates, allowing a whopping 4.2 goals per game. Dallas has been a streaky team in recent years, posting an incredible 16-3 record when playing at home off consecutive wins, as is the case here, outscoring opponents by an average margin of 1.6 goals. Here, the Stars will be seeking revenge for a 4-1 loss in Columbus back in October. It's worth noting that Dallas closed as a -140 favorite in that one. All things considered, I don't believe we're being asked to lay all that big of a price with the red hot Stars tonight. Take Dallas.Comment
