The Cardinals (-2) are worth a look as a short home favorite against the Rams on Monday Night Football. It's crazy how little respect this Arizona team gets. They have been the best team in the NFL and yet people just don't seem to truly believe they are really the best team. It makes them dangerous, because they continue to play with a chip on their shoulder. No way should they be laying less than a field goal at home against any team right now. Play the Cardinals -2!

Monday NFL Free play. My selection is on the 'under' between Los Angeles and Arizona at 8:15 pm et on Monday.
The first matchup between these two teams this season totalled 57 points as the Cardinals won in a rout. Here, I'm anticipating a lower-scoring affair as the Rams look to close the gap on the Cards in the NFC West. Nothing in particular stands out in terms of a significant advantage for either offense over the opposing defense in this one. The Cardinals check in atop the NFC in terms of yards per pass play allowed. Obviously that creates a difficult matchup for a Rams offense that likes to sling it all over the field. Los Angeles hasn't been able to consistently run the football nor has it stuck with the run for extended stretches in the majority of its games. I do think it will need to make a concerted effort to pound away here, however, in an effort to keep the Cards defense honest, and perhaps open things up for a few deep shots as the game progresses. The Cards eased Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins back into action in last Sunday's lopsided win in Chicago, attempting just 15 passes in that game. I expect RB James Conner to receive a significant workload again tonight with Chase Edmonds' return nearing. It's worth noting that we've seen consecutive meetings in this series go 'over' the total just once going all the way back to December of 2013. Look for that trend to hold up again here. The Washington Wizards visit The Mile High City at 15-12, to face the 13-13 Denver Nuggets. Wes Unseld Jr. signed a four-year contract to become the head coach of the Washington Wizards on July 17, 2021, after serving as an assistant under Denver Nuggets head coach Michael Malone from 2015-21. Malone and the Denver front office helped him get the job.

Unseld seems like a good fit but after a 10-3 start (9-4 ATS), the Wizards have gone 5-9, including 3-10-1 ATS. Guards Beal (22.5-4.8-5.7) and Dinwiddie (13.3-4.8-5.3) are the 'heart' of the team but a trio I like to call "Lakers-East," have been MAJOR additions. PF Harrell (14.9 & 7.9), SF Kuzma (13,4 & 8.3) and swingman Caldwell-Pope (11,0) have really found a home on the East Coast. Undersized center, the 6-9 Gafford, is averaging 9.2 & 6.4. However, the Wizards are likely to be without Kuzma for a second straight game, as he was put in the league's coronavirus protocols before Saturday's game and his status for Monday is unknown. The 6-9 Avdija (6.1 & 4.9) started in his place, playing 22 minutes with four points and six rebounds.

The Nuggets have been floating near .500 while dealing with roster turmoil (injuries/COVID). The Nuggets haven't played at home since losing to Milwaukee back on Nov 26 and went 4-3 on their just completed road trip. Last year's MVP Nikola Jokic makes up for a lot of holes, as he averaged 26.7 points, 13.4 rebounds and 9.0 assists on the road trip (26-5-13.5-7.2 on the season). However, the team's second-leading scorer is Barton (16.3-5.1-4.2), who sat out the last game and Denver didn't have an update on Barton's status for Monday's contest. SF Gordon (14.2 & 5.7) has played well up front, but PF Porter has only played in NINE games this season (last played Nov 6). Jeff Green is filing in and averaging 9.5 & 3.0, well below Porter's 19.0 & 7.3 last season. PG Murray (21.2 & 4.8 APG last season) remains out after a torn ACL at the end of last season (no timetable on his return) and while Morris (12.3 & 4.3 APG) is a solid player, he's NO Murray.

That said, the Wizards are struggling and while Denver wishes Unseld well, that WON'T be the case here. In Denver's first home game since the day after Thanksgiving, I'm laying the small number.
