Rams off 37-7 “get right” win against Jacksonville, but now comes a pivotal game for both teams. Arizona is 10-2 SU and the Rams trail by 2 games in the NFC West at 8-4. Cards off their 7th straight road win of the season, beating the Bears 33-22 in the cold, wet and wind of Soldier Field in Chicago. Kyler Murray was back and while throwing for just 123 yards, he completed an efficient 11 of 15 for 2 TDs and ran for another 59 yards and 2 TDs, plus the Cards didn’t commit a turnover in the rain and cold while WR DeAndre Hopkins also returned to action with 2 catches and a TD. The Rams need to win this game to maintain any realistic shot at the division title, as a loss would effectively put them four games behind Arizona (which would have swept the season series) with four games to go, and Sean McVay still has trips to Baltimore and Minnesota remaining, plus hosting a 49ers team he hasn't beaten in three years. True, both Cards losses (SU to Pack and Panthers) and all three spread Ls (including vs. the Vikings way back in Week 2) have come at State Farm Stadium, and note that until the 37-20 win in LA on Oct. 3, the Cards had lost 8 straight against the Rams, covering just one of those encounters. But must note that LA was also shaky early against the lowly Jags, taking a couple of first Q injuries in the offensive line and stopped for 3 FGs in the first half before pitching a 21-0 shutout after halftime. The Rams also had problems last week rushing the passer (only sacked Trevor Lawrence twice) and with penalties, one of which was a taunting call that led directly to J'ville's only score. Arizona much more together as a unit right now as the NFC West baton is about to be passed to the Big Red. Play Arizona.
Cowboys Still Clicking Game: (875) Cleveland State at (876) Oklahoma State Date/Time: Dec 13 2021 8:00 PM EST Betting Line Provider: Consensus Line Play Rating: 3 units Play: Cleveland State +12.5 (-110)
On a night where there isn’t much to get excited about in college basketball, this matchup between the Vikings and Cowboys at Gallagher-Iba offers up the best matchup on the schedule. Both of these teams reached the NCAA Tournament last season and return an abundance of talent from those teams. Oklahoma State still faces a tourney ban it doesn’t deserve, but the loss of No. 1 overall pick Cade Cunningham hadn’t derailed early success until this month rolled around. After opening 6-1, OSU opened December with a 60-51 loss to Wichita State and lost to Xavier 77-71 in its most recent matchup, falling despite being favored in each contest. A five-minute scoreless drought doomed the Cowboys against the Musketeers and it seems like only guard Avery Anderson III is in a good rhythm. Mike Boynton may have to tinker with his lineup combinations because there’s too much talent on the roster for his team to look this offensively challenged even after losing such a talented primary catalyst. They should find no reprieve in Dennis Gates’ Vikings, who carry a six-game win streak into Stillwater after pushing past Wright State 85-75 in a game where they surrendered the most points they’ve given up this season. Cleveland State has played just one true road game to date, losing its opener at BYU before playing seven straight contests at the Wolstein Center. A trip to Duke is up next, so we should see an engaged team taking the floor since there’s a lot of depth on the roster and Gates has fueled his group with confidence, producing wins in 25 of 35 games following an 11-21 showing in his first season. Look for Torrey Patton, D’Moi Hodge and Tre Gomillion to keep the Vikings in this contest and take the points. Play Cleveland State.

Pilots Flying High Game: (879) Cal Poly SLO at (880) Portland Date/Time: Dec 13 2021 10:00 PM EST Betting Line Provider: Consensus Line Play Rating: 3 units Play: Portland -5.0 (-110)
Portland has had more than a week to think about what wrong in the last home game vs. VMI, though the Keydets marched with disdain on their swing thru the Northwest, also beating Seattle before retreating back to the Eastern Time Zone. This is still a long way from the recent Pilots teams of Terry Porter, as new HC Shantay Legans has brought much of last year’s Big Dance qualifier with him from Eastern Washington, including high-scoring G Tyler Robertson (16.8 ppg) and backcourt sidekick Mike Meadows (10.2 ppg), part of an almost brand-new team at Chiles Center that only the transfer portal could love. And hitting better than 80% of its FTs, Portland can be hard to catch if foes are resorted to fouling in the late going. The Pilots’ transfers had also gone six games without a spread L before running into VMI. Sticking around town after beating Portland State, Cal Poly off just its second win in eight games, as one of the longest road trips outside of the New York Islanders’ 13-game trek to begin the NHL season, meanders along, but a lot has to go right for the low-scoring (62 ppg) Mustangs to have a chance. It hasn’t helped HC John Smith (yep, that’s his name!) that EWU transfer G Jacob Davison, a notorious bomber at EWU, is hitting only 29% beyond the arc. Besides, we wonder why Davison didn’t join his former HC Legans at Portland! Play Portland.
