SIZZLING EVENING - Popular handicapping angle - 3rd or 4th start after a vacation generally leads to a big effort. A live horse today. Have to make this gelding a solid contender; he comes off a strong effort on Dec 7th. A repeat of that last race on Dec 7th where he recorded a speed rating of 92 looks good enough to prove victorious in this contest. The improved Equibase speed figs over the last three races is strong. Garrett drops him in this race ready to win. LONE SHOTGUN RIDER - Martinez brings him back again. I suggest you stick with this strong gelding. BRAVE HELIOS - When this rider and conditioner work together you have to take a look. Ybarra and Morgan have been fabulous together. This gelding usually does his best running late. Look for him in the rear of the field early in the race and flying past them on the tiring speed horses. Have to like the way Morgan has raced this gelding back into shape off the layoff. Horse is well spotted in this sprint and I think he'll run well today.

CENTRIST - Faulkner has this gelding moving well and is a competitive selection based on the solid Equibase speed figs earned in sprint races recently. JUSTHAPPY - When Ness gives Silvera a leg up on any mount, you know that with their winning percentage you have more than a fighting chance. Finished 2nd, but easily in the place spot over the third horse. Those types usually run well next time out. This filly is obviously on the improve with speed figures of 42, 67, 71 last 3 out.

Vulnerable Contenders: #2 TWIST 'N TWIRL (ML=7/2), #8 SUPREME BEING (ML=4/1), #9 CAVE MAN (ML=5/1),

TWIST 'N TWIRL - When examining today's class rating, he will have to record a much better speed figure than in the last race to be competitive in this dirt route. SUPREME BEING - Doesn't seem inspiring to me after the lack of any sort of closing response on Nov 5th. CAVE MAN - This mount didn't go to the front end and didn't make up any ground in the lane last time he ran. Not likely that the fig he garnered on November 20th will be good enough in this event.

I'm going to take the 8.5 with the Thunder as they go on the road to face the Grizzlies tonight. I like going against Memphis in this spot. The Grizzlies had won 5 in a row and 10 of 11 before losing last night 100-105 to the Blazers. It's been quite a run for Memphis, who has done most of it without star point guard Ja Morant.
I just think they are do for a tough stretch without Morant. Not saying they won't win this game, but it's not easy getting up for a bad team on no rest after a close loss, especially when you got a game at the Warriors, who is the No. 1 target in the NBA, on deck.
Always run the risk with OKC laying a massive egg, but they come in well rested (only 2nd game in 5 days) and have covered their last 2 and are 10-5 ATS over their last 15. Give me the Thunder +8.5!
