The Gulfstream Park Championship Meet is heading towards 2022. Their Tapeta track is causing quite a stir. Is this the same Gulfstream as before? We shall see, once all the "handle numbers" come flowing in ...

At Horseracing.net/us we have you covered, including all of the action related to the Derby Trail! With the Holy Bull, Fountain of Youth, and the Florida Derby, it is going to be another excellent Florida Series @GP! It is a good time for some of the best that North American racing has to offer. Stay tuned!

Most Likely Winner: (Race 4: North Carolina #6, 9/5):

The spirit of trainer Barclay Tagg is alive and well … no chance he looks like he is retiring. On this Wednesday card he sends his accomplished 4-yr-old gelding by Speightstown to the turf at Gulfstream for the 1st time. After running at all 3 NYRA tracks since coming over from Shug McGaughey’s outfit, he just missed at Belmont and Aqueduct. That last race was a deep route (by American standards), and he lost the lead in the deep stretch. Hopefully, new jockey Luis Saez (who is riding exceedingly well) will get the tiger by the tail. Nothing like a runner who likes to control the pace upfront … Bet this one …

          Wager: $100 Win, #6

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 6: Churchills Victory #3, 15/1):

Switching to the Tapeta track at Gulfstream, I think I found a gem with this router that is trained by Happy Alter. Bred by now-deceased super turf sire English Channel, this 5-yr-old is going to appreciate the class drop. Hector Berrios has some ability in the saddle, and I like the fact that this one will be viewed as an utter failure since he finished 47 lengths back in his last race @GP in November. He is a much better runner than bettors might think, and at 15/1, that is a nice price for sure. The Alter Barn does not have an expansive stable, but maybe this one has what it takes to get them their 1st win of the Meet.

          Wager: Graduated Wager, WPS, $100 Bankroll, #3 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 9: Turf, 1 Mile, OC25k, F&M 3+):

If there is a “feature” on this Wednesday card at Gulfstream then it might be this one on the grass. The best news is that there is not a consensus “favorite” as far as I can tell. That should give us options. I am pretty interested in Bill Mott’s entry, because let’s face it … it’s Bill Mott, a HOF conditioner. Applecross #9 is a filly by Sir Prancealot (IRE) that used to be in the keep of Richard Baltas out in SoCal. After being switched to her new outfit back in April, she finally gets the chance to strut her stuff. Junior Alvarado gets the call, and he inherits a mount that once flashed some ability out West. Let’s use her on this debut, but I also like some others in here that can assist in rounding out the ticket. For instance, how about Saffie Joseph’s Tik Tok Famous #7? This younger filly continues to be consistent, and I like the continued use of the services of Tyler Gaffalione. Thinking about another pair, I like both Carlos David’s Centsless Drama #6 and Brendan Walsh’s Magna Mater #3. Both offer turf experience, and could offer us some prices underneath, depending on how the betting goes. I really enjoy watching Julien Leparoux when he gets aboard a runner (in this case #3) that is making only its 2nd US start. Should be a fun one to wager and watch!

          Wager: Superfecta Wheel, $2, 9 w 3/6/7 w 3/6/7 w 3/6/7

Tampa Bay Picks: A Turf Sprint Finale December 29

            Race 7 : 6-7-3-4

Happy Holidays from one of the best kept turf secrets in all of Thoroughbred racing ... it's Tampa Bay Downs!

At Horseracing.net/us we have you covered, including all of the action! It is a good time for some of the best that North American racing has to offer. Stay tuned!

            Horse Racing Picks
            Tvg Sitetakeover 992x300

Most Likely Winner: (Race 5: Emphasize #4, 5/1):

Trainer Sillaman has a sharp-looking gelding heading to the post at Tampa, and the price hopefully will remain around 5/1. I am not sure that is going to happen, especially because every mount that Daniel Centeno rides gets hammered at the windows. It should be noted that this son of Exaggerator finally broke his maiden last time out at Tampa, and can keep it going in this Waiver Claimer affair. Let’s bet this one …

            Wagering Recommendation: $100 Win, #4

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 3: Starship Precious #4, 8/1):

Here is a New York bred that is coming down to Florida for some much-needed sun. After a couple of attempts at Finger Lakes, she should be ready to make this switch, and the Ferraro Barn is looking for a win. By Freud, she gets Jesus Castanon aboard, and I like his turf riding ability. The folks at Starship Stables have a budding star. At 8/1, the price is right, and should bring a nice payout, if this team can get the job done!

            Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #4 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 9: Turf, 5F, AOC16k, 3):

With a full field of 10, this turf speed test is going to be a wide-open affair. I am sure bettors will recognize the last name of the trainer who enters Jura #1. Young Reeve McGaughey is just setting out in his career, but he has experience when he worked under his HOF father, Shug. It is going to be interesting to watch his career these next few years. He has figured out the Tampa turf secret … come with a nice string, and use this time to get your feet wet. This gelding he has under his keep is by Twirling Candy, and that is a sire that produces versatile runners. Let’s use this one, but maybe not on top. He is going to get over bet, and not provide too much value. Breaking from the post is very difficult, especially if you get caught down on the rail … highly likely. Instead, I much prefer Jordan Blair’s Kona Kai #9. This 4-yr-old filly, who is taking on the boys, is by Palace Malice. She is lightly-raced with only 6 career starts. She already has $60k to her name when it comes to earnings. Though she missed at Churchill last time out, I think her record at the MSW level back in 2020 speaks to hope. Maybe she just needed some time to realize what she is about. The able-bodied Jesus Castanon gets the call, and he should be quick to work out a trip. One other runner that I want to add is the Florida bred, Abe Honestly #2. This colt flashed some talent back at Monmouth Park during the summer. His race on the 4th of July exhibited some fireworks in the win. I think he has talent, and deserves to be included with Hector Diaz in the irons. These 3 I have picked should get this ticket cashed … the filly takes the lead!

            Wagering Recommendation: $2 Exacta Wheel, 9 w 1/2

Best Horse Racing Bets for Wednesday, December 29, 2021
By J.W. Paine in Horse Racing

My chosen tracks for Wednesday—Delta Downs, Gulfstream Park, and Penn National Race Course—all offered up plenty of underdog moneymakers for our wagering and entertainment dollar.

Each of the three yielded a single favorite I was unable to ignore, along with two underdogs, some of which were third- and even fourth-favored—proof that Santa loves us and wants us to be happy.

Remember to review the full Wednesday race-cards for each of the tracks at our top online racebooks.

              Good luck!
              Wednesday’s Picks for Delta Downs

Let’s start with race two, a seven-furlong allowance optional claiming race for Louisiana-bred fillies and mares three years old and upward. I’m betting on the 5/2 second-favored entry here—Sweet Prayers, ridden by veteran jockey Timothy Thornton.

This six-year-old mare accomplished very little professionally between 2018 and 2020, but this year she has blossomed into a real contender. Her 2021 record is ten money finishes in 13 starts, with three wins and seven second-place finishes.

For the record, her overall career numbers are 14 money finishes in 28 starts, four of them wins.

Top-ranked for wins and earnings for over a decade, Karl Broberg trains Sweet Prayers for End Zone Athletics, Inc. Broberg tapped Thornton to saddle Sweet Prayers for her last five races.

Race four is a five-furlong allowance race for two-year-old’s that have never won two races (Louisiana-bred races not considered in eligibility). There’s plenty of good competition in this nine-horse field, but my two dollars is on the 5/2 morning-line favorite, Brian’s Iron Mike, with Joe Stokes in the irons.
This gelding finished his initial maiden attempt in November in third place, then came back this month for his graduation victory. Stokes was aboard for both runs.

Allen Landry—who is having the best year of his career—trains Brian’s Iron Mike for Bucks Boys, LLC.

Race six is a five-furlong allowance race for three-year-old’s and upward. I’m backing the fourth-favored (at 5/1) Limbo’s Promise, piloted by jockey Alex Birzer.

This four-year-old gelding finished 11 of his 23 career starts in the money, winning four—with most of his success coming in 2021. Versus the rest of this unimpressive field of nine, he’ll do.

Bonnie Birzer trains Limbo’s Promise for owners Doug Anderson and Jaral Keith Adams.
My Wednesday Picks for Gulfstream Park

Let’s start with race five, a 5-1/2 furlong starter allowance race on the all-weather track for three-year-old’s and upward. I’m backing the 5/2 morning-line favorite, Belgrano, ridden by top jockey Paco Lopez.

Even in this evenly-matched field of seven, this seven-year-old gelding is a stand-out: 18 money finishes in 34 career starts, eight of them wins, including the 2020 Virgil Buddy Raines Stakes (Black Type) and the Rainbow Heir Stakes (Black Type) this past August—both at Monmouth Park.

Longtime racing veteran Frank Russo trains Belgrano for Peace Sign Stables.

Race eight is a 6-1/2 furlong starter optional claiming race on the main track for two-year-old fillies. I’m betting my two dollars on the fourth-favored (at 5/1) Madame Claude, piloted by veteran jockey Miguel Angel Vasquez.
This filly finished three of her five career starts in the money, winning two—her second attempt at graduating the maiden class in August (in a 12-horse field, no less) and her most recent start, a claiming race in November.

There are several impressive two-year-old’s in this seven-horse race, but Madame Claude shows the most promise.

Regularly top-ranked for both wins and earnings, Antonio Sano trains Madame Claude for Lugamo Racing Stable LLC.

Let’s move to the turf course for race nine, a one-mile allowance optional claiming race for fillies and mares three years old and upward. I’m backing the third-favored (at 9/2) Tik Tok Famous, with jockey Tyler Gaffalione aboard.

This three-year-old filly finished in the money five of her six career starts, winning one. Notably, she finished second in the Miss Gracie Stakes (Black Type) in September and third in the Cellars Shiraz Stakes (Black Type) in November.

Saffie A. Joseph Jr. trains Tik Tok Famous for e Five Racing Thoroughbreds.
Wednesday Picks for Penn National Race Course

We’ll start on the main track with race one, a one-mile and 70 yards allowance race for fillies and mares three years old and upward. I like the third-favored (at 4/1) Ami’s Link, piloted by Maicol J. Inirio.

This five-year-old mare moneyed 13 of her 24 career starts, winning six. Interestingly, her record for 2021 is identical to that of the favorite, but her overall stats say she’s got the edge here.

Steven Chircop trains Ami’s Link for owner Eric Ross.

Race six is a six-furlong allowance optional claiming race on the main track for Pennsylvania-bred three-year-old’s and upward. I’m betting my two dollars on the 4/1 third-favored Colonel Moorhead, ridden by veteran jockey Dana G. Whitney.
In a seven-horse field like this one, it’s easy to pick this six-year-old gelding on just his overall stats: 16 money finishes in 31 career starts, nine of them wins. But his 2021 record is what puts him at the top of my list: seven money finishes in nine starts, five of those wins. He’ll do.

Elisha Perez—who’s coincidentally also having a great year—trains Colonel Moorhead for owner Talon Perez.

Race seven is a six-furlong claiming race on the main track for fillies and mares three years old and upward that have never won three races. I’m sticking with the 5/2 morning-line favorite in this seven-horse field—Sinise, with jockey Inoel Beato aboard.

This three-year-old filly finished five of her nine career starts in the money, with two of them wins, including her most recent, a claiming race at Penn National in November.

The regularly top-ranked T. Bernard Houghton trains Sinise for owner Richard H. Bosshard Jr. Houghton has put Beato in the irons for both of Sinise’s wins.

Kelso and Newbury are in focus for Wednesday's best horse racing tips
                  29th December 2021 / Lee A Jackson
                  Horse Racing Betting

Today’s horse racing tips hit midweek and there is some Grade 1 action that we are diving into.

That is the Challow Novices’ Hurdle from Newbury at 15:05 for which there is a very good competitive field.

For horse racing betting today we look at further picks from Newbury as well as Kelso.

So here are the best of today’s horse racing tips for Wednesday, December 29th 2021.

15:05 Newbury Challow Novices’ Hurdle Horse Racing Tip

Race Type: Grade 1 novices hurdle
                  Age: 4-year-olds plus
                  Declared Runners: 7
                  Distance: 2m 4f
                  Race Preview

STAGE STAR will be expected to deliver a strong effort in the Challow on Wednesday at Newbury.

He is seeking a hat-trick after coming on very well over the hurdles this season.

It’s been two from two for him over the timbers so far.

The most recent of those was at course and distance last month. He stormed the field in that one.

Stage Star comes up in grade here but has some claims.

The challenge of LOSSIEMOUTH cannot be underestimated in this one.

He picked up a hattrick with a win in the Winter Novices’ Hurdle at Sandown earlier this month.

That Grade 2 victory clearly puts him in this category given that he won that race by 14 lengths after comfortably coming off the gas early with the race won.

That’s three from three over the hurdles for Lossiemouth and will likely be heavily involved in the thick of things on Wednesday.

GRINGO D’AUBRELLE is another with solid form behind him. He got off the mark over the hurdles at Fairyhouse last month.

That’s back to back wins for him and therefore coming from a top yard will likely be a challenge.

Gringo D’Aubrelle will probably be targeting this race and looks like a threat coming up in the trip.

                  Tip: LOSSIEMOUTH 3/1

Ones to watch: Stage Star 13/8, Gringo D’aubrelle 4/1

Race Type: Class 2 handicap hurdle
                  Age: 4-year-olds plus
                  Declared Runners: 12
                  Distance: 2m 4f
                  Race Preview

MASTERS LEGACY arrives in a very good heart after two very good runs this season.

On his seasonal reappearance, Masters Legacy took a win on a 2m trip at Chepstow.

He continued in that strong form with a runner up at course and distance a month ago.

After some struggles from last season, Masters Legacy looks back to his very best and rates as a danger in this field.

DASHEL DRASHER was in fine nick last season, winning three chases at Ascot. One of those was a Grade 2 effort as well.

Dashel Drasher is to be respected as he moves back to hurdling in midweek. He has had a reappearance run under his belt.

That resulted in a third-place finish at Ascot just over a month ago.

He should be better for having had that run as he looked like he needed it.

MONTE CRISTO is another of the line up that commands some respect. This time last year he won a strong Kempton handicap.

Having been to the Cheltenham and Aintree festivals this year, he has been involved in some competitive action and ran well in defeat.

Monte Cristo should have a chance from fresh.

BEAUPORT is another that gets on the shortlist in this bigger field. He took a second-place finish on his reappearance at Sandown last month.

With the form from that race having been franked, Beauport should have had a decent chance because was developing very well as a novice hurdler.

                  Tip: DASHEL DRASHER 11/2

Ones to watch: Monte Cristo 8/1, Beauport 4/1

14:35 Newbury Handicap Chase Horse Racing Tips & Odds

Race Type: Class 3 handicap chase
                  Age: 4-year-olds plus
                  Declared Runners: 14
                  Distance: 3m 1f
                  Race Preview

SAINT PALAIS enters the action with claims at Newbury on Wednesday in this handicap chase action.

He has won his last two and looks to have a lot more to come in this sphere.

It’s two from two by him in the UK over the fences now.

Those scores were recorded at Worcester and Wetherby.

Saint Palais to have more potential to be unlocked.

GERICAULT ROQUE has been moving up in form over the hurdles.

He has won twice over the timbers before and has gone close this season to add to that tally.

Gericault Roque was a runner up at Chepstow on his latest effort 25 days ago.

That was another improvement in form and jumping and he should be right there.

WAYFINDER is worth another look after his appearance didn’t go to plan.

Three weeks ago he was brought down at Bangor through no fault of his own.

There was good form produced by Wayfinder last season including a good handicap chase score at Chepstow.

He still has plenty to offer and can’t be overlooked.

                  Tip: WAYFINDER 10/1

Ones to watch: Saint Palais 7/2, Gericault Roque 4/1

13:25 Newbury Handicap Chase Horse Racing Betting

Race Type: Class 3 handicap chase
                  Age: 4-year-olds plus
                  Declared Runners: 9
                  Distance: 2m
                  Race Preview

This looks like an extremely wide-open contest. GALLIC GEORDIE is one for the shortlist however.

He is sitting on a hattrick chance and is turned out quickly under a 7lb penalty.

Those two wins were at Lingfield and he will have a lot more on his plate coming up in grade for this one.

HEART OF LION is of note as well having won at Ludlow in November. That was on his chasing debut.

Heart Of Lion couldn’t quite back that up at Huntingdon on his follow up as his jumping game wasn’t on point. But it’s too early to dismiss him.

DOUKAROV will be challenged from a revised mark, but carries a useful 3lb claimer.

He picked up the third chase win of his career with a course and distance success two weeks ago.

Doukarov perhaps did benefit from a relatively weak field and will face stiff opposition in this one. Place claims are there, however.

EARLY DU LEMO gets on the shortlist as well for this interesting fixture.

He was third at Sandown after a break of 10 months in November. That was a credible run and he has been eased in the ratings.

                  Tip: HEART OF LION 11/2

Ones to watch: Gallic Geordie 2/1, Doukarov 9/2

CEDAR HILL brings consistent form to the table and should rate as a danger in this one.

Last season he took three course and distance wins.

Although he hasn’t picked up a win since a reappearance, it’s been three solid enough efforts.

Cedar Hill is down 2lb after finding a lively mare just too good for him at Wetherby on his latest run last month.

TRESHNISH brings winning form to the table after picking up a win at Hexham three weeks ago.

He is a little hit and miss but has still managed to win two of his last five runs.

If he can find a way to actually back up that very good latest effort, the Treshnish should have a claim.

LUCKY FLIGHT is worth a look as well because he has a decent track record at Kelso.

In October he made a reappearance and did not produce a very strong jumping performance.

But he’s capable when he puts it together and has won two of three previous efforts at the venue.

                  Tip: CEDAR HILL 5/2

Ones to watch: Lucky Flight 7/1, Treshnish 7/2

12:42 Kelso Handicap Hurdle Horse Racing Tip

Race Type: Class 3 handicap hurdle
                  Age: 3-year-olds plus
                  Declared Runners: 13
                  Distance: 2m 6f
                  Race Preview

GRAND VOYAGE is good enough to make his presence felt in this contest on Wednesday.

He was last seen three weeks ago at course and distance.

Grand Voyage got himself off the mark over the hurdles in that one.

The form from that has been proven as well and Grand Voyage should have something to offer once again as he comes up 11lb.

MAYO STAR is back up in trip and worth watching for horse racing betting. He has won twice before in this sphere so he has it in him.

Mayo Star has performed reasonably enough at Kelso before to see him bring claims to the table on Wednesday.

He was second a month ago at Ayr so has a little bit of form behind him.

DUTY CALLS produced a much-improved effort in taking a runner up place on a 2m handicap trip here at Kelso three weeks ago.

That was a big mark of progress made by him.

It’s likely that the longer trip on Wednesday is going to help him improve further.

                  Tip: MAYO STAR 4/1

Ones to watch: Grand Voyage 3/1, Duty Calls 7/1

                      Today’s Racing Tips – December 29th

There are six race meetings in Britain and Ireland on Wednesday, with high quality jumps action from Newbury, Doncaster, Kelso, Leopardstown and Limerick. The heavy rain over the past week has assured testing ground at all of the fixtures, and field sizes are likely to be large and competitive as a result across the board. All-weather fans have an all-weather card to study on the new surface at Southwell, with their twilight fixture under lights starting at 3.55pm.

                      Newbury 2:00 PM

Phillip Hobbs progressive handicapper lost no caste in defeat over this course and distance last time out, and the form has already been franked by the third and fourth that day. He remains with plenty of upside after just seven runs over hurdles, and should go really close despite being inched up a few pounds for that narrow defeat.

                      Run to Milan

                      Newbury 2:35 PM

Victor Dartnall’s unexposed stayer shaped really well on his seasonal debut when ridden forwards at Exeter in November, and was soon poorly positioned when well held at Chepstow last time out. This step up to 3m2f on a flat galloping track should suit ideally, and he has plenty of form in the book on heavy ground to suggest these testing conditions will bring his stamina into play up the long straight.

Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Gosford, Mornington, Ipswich, Pinjarra, Strathalbyn, Canberra and Hobart.

                        GOSFORD: RACE 5 @ 4:20 PM

KIBOSH (3) never runs a bad race and was only just outgunned late when resuming at Canterbury. Fitter for that, extra 100m a plus and she's drawn to have every chance. The one to beat. NEVER SECOND (5) is another consistent mare and she's up in class on her solid win at Kembla last time but can easily measure up. DICKIN MEDAL (2) was likely outclassed when resuming at Randwick and he trialled so well leading into that he's worth a look back in grade.
                        SELECTIONS: Kibosh to win. Trifecta - standout 3 from 2, 5 & 12 boxed

                        MORNINGTON: RACE 6 @ 4:30 PM

VIA CAPO (2) has returned in good order filling a place at both outings this campaign. Should be at his top now and is expected to go close. GALACTIC FURY (1) scored at Benalla four runs back and subsequent performances have been sound. Looks nicely off here and despite the weight should run well. SLY CORNER (9) showed plenty of improvement at second run back following a break. Should be near his top for this and cannot be dismissed. HELAVABEL (3) has hit the line strongly at both outings this campaign. Fit for this performance and has to be given respect.
SELECTIONS: Back Via Capo to win.

                        PINJARRA: RACE 8 @ 5:10 PM

KICK A GOAL SON (1) found the line strongly last start, coming from the tail over 1200m at Ascot to finish third and beaten only 0.6 lengths. Will appreciate the extra furlong third-up. Sure to prove hard to hold out. IRRITABLE RODNEE (4) did well when resuming over 1400m at this track last start, finishing third and beaten 1.1 lengths. Overall record is sound when second-up and has plenty of upside with the run under his belt. Among the winning hopes. BOURBON BEAU (3) pushed forward and was a determined winner by one length over 1200m at Belmont last time out. Has raced well all prep and he should be involved in the finish again. SPEEDBIRD (5) finished third when resuming last time over 1406m at this track. Backmarker who keeps coming and has to be respected. WESTERN RHYTHM (11) is in the picture third-up and getting to a more suitable trip.
SELECTIONS: This looks perfect for #1 Kick A Goal Son.

                        STRATHALBYN: RACE 7 @ 4:50 PM

CYBER INTERVENTION (4) was only run down late start in this distance range when in the market. That followed an encouraging first up effort when not beaten far in a race run in good time. He can go close again. ALPHAEUS (3) has run well in three runs back from a spell including placing at his past two. He'll make his own luck on speed and should be suited up to this trip. Keep safe. TONY'S REWARD (5) was thereabouts in this distance range last start when in the market and is one for the multiples approaching peak fitness. MUSTARI (1) was no match for the talented Tradewind last start but stuck to his task well. He can build on that here. STAR LYRIC (7) has run well without winning this time in and should have finished closer last start. Don't take lightly.
SELECTIONS: Cyber Intervention can go one better.

                        CANBERRA: RACE 6 @ 4:41 PM

MAJOR TIME (2) loves racing here on his home circuit with two wins and nine placings from 16 starts. Strips fitter third-up from the spell and looks a genuine top-three contender. RAPIDITY (8) is a model of consistency hitting the top five in all 12 starts since joining the new stable. Has to be included. MEG (3) failed first-up but is worth another chance on the form she showed last campaign. HEZREDHOT (4) has two wins and two placings from seven runs here on his home surface and can earn some minor money.
                        SELECTIONS: Major Time to win.

Canberra Racing Club Preview – 29th December 2021
By: Racing & Sports Time published 2021-12-28 at 06:07 PM (GMT +11:00)

Canberra Racing Club offers up a nine-race program for its last meeting of 2021 which includes a 1400m TAB Federal and a strong 1000m Open Handicap.

The quaddie at Thoroughbred Park opens with the days' feature event, the Benchmark 75 TAB Federal where Girls Are Ready looks hard to beat off a last start victory at the course and distance on November 26.

A 1000m Open Handicap follows where noted first up performer Mr Magical resumes off a breakout campaign earlier in the year which culminated with three straight wins on the South Coast through winter.

Wednesday's meeting is the last to be held at Thoroughbred Park for 2021 with the first race of the day, a 1200m Benchmark 60 Handicap, scheduled for 1:46pm.

                          RACE 1: 1:46PM - ONECALL FORM & STEEL BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

Winning Business (5) is a very honest conveyance hitting the top five in eight of her past nine outings. Will be rock-hard fit for this and draws the rails for Loy. From an astute barn and looks the one they all have to run down. BLAZING BEAU (6) has placed two of three runs this time in including a second around this circuit. Rates among the leading chances. ROMEO VELLA (2) is racing in fine fashion with two wins and two seconds from his past five starts. Has winning claims again here on his home surface. EVANORA (3) resumes here and can run a race while fresh. SHIPWAY (8) has a handy record over this journey with two wins and five placings from 13 attempts. In the mix.

                          Selections: 5-6-2-3-8

                          RACE 2: 2:21PM - BEGA CUP 2 DAY CARNIVAL 29-30 JAN @SAPPHIRECOAST CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

Time For Peace (2) has a solid record over this sprint journey with a win and four seconds from seven outings and will strip fitter third-up from the spell. Sure to be right there when the whips are cracking. PER IVY (4) was well in the market on debut at Wyong and duly saluted over this distance. Will have taken a bunch of confidence from that victory and no reason why she can't make it two from two. EXTRAVAGENT LAD (6) placed around this circuit last time out and will be nearing his peak now. Expected to be competitive. PRINCESS SPICE (5) has a win and a placing from three attempts at the trip and is one for the multiples. OUTTA REACH (1) is from a good barn and gets 2kg off with the claim. In the mix.

                          Selections: 2-4-6-5-1

                          RACE 3: 2:56PM - CAPITAL RACING STABLES BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP (2000 METRES)

Sprout Wings (2) has been knocking on the door of late with two consecutive runner-up finishes and strikes a winnable affair here. Will be rock-hard fit for this and looks the one they all have to run down. WOULD BE KING (7) has finished second in two of three runs this time in including one around this track last time out. Has placed over this journey and looms as the main danger. STREET CRED (5) goes well over this track and trip with three wins and a second from eight outings. In the mix. CALL ME ARTIE (1) has placed two from four here on his home surface and can earn some minor money. SUBTLY SPRING (6) has won over this distance and can fill the frame.

                          Selections: 2-7-5-1-6

RACE 4: 3:31PM - LONGPARK MEAT CO MAIDEN HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

A bit to learn here with a few facing the starter for the first time. Breakaway Week (9) is one of those debutantes and showed enough in a recent trial to suggest she can play a role in this. Is trained on course and any moves in betting should be respected. NOVEMBER RHYTHM (2) is another on debut and has looked handy enough placing in two recent Hawkesbury trials. Gets the services of Penza in the irons and can feature first time at the races. YESTERDAY'S GONE (3) was a close-up second in her first race start and will take plenty of benefit from that race day experience. Looks a key player. ONE POSE (11) failed last time out but the two runs prior to start the career were full of merit. One of the main contenders. HOLLOW DOLLAR (6) strips fitter third-up from the spell and can earn a cheque.

                          Selections: 9-2-3-11-6

RACE 5: 4:06PM - NICK OLIVE RACING MAIDEN PLATE (1300 METRES)

Kyalla (9) improved last time out when third behind a pretty smart one at Hawkesbury. From a good yard and gets 1.5kg off with McLucas' claim. Doesn't face an overly strong contest here and looks very hard to toss. OAHU GAZE (2) is knocking on the door with three seconds from his past four outings. Has placed over this journey and looks set for another bold showing. The well-related THIRD EYE (12) resumes here but showed enough in her first preparation to warrant respect in this. In the mix. KHUMBU (5) is the most experienced galloper in the field and can earn a cheque. HUKA (17) wasn't disgraced on debut and is best of the rest.

                          Selections: 9-2-12-5-17

                          RACE 6: 4:41PM - TAB FEDERAL BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

Girls Are Ready (1) got the job done last time out and will take plenty of confidence from that victory. Taylor was in the irons for that last-start win and sticks. Is two from three over this track and trip and will be in it for a very long way.

                          Selections: *1-2-8-3-4

                          RACE 7: 5:16PM - CLEANAWAY OPEN HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

Mr Magical (1) resumes here but closed off last campaign with three wins on the bounce before the spell. Has won three from five over this sprint trip and is sure to play a major role while fresh. COLONEL (5) has been thereabouts in recent efforts and will be at peak fitness now. Looks the main danger. THE UNKNOWN FACTOR (10) loves this course and distance with four wins and seven placings from just 14 outings and is a must for the exotics. PROUD MIA (2) mixes her form but can feature if she brings her best. CALESCENT (4) has won two from six here and gets 1.5kg weight relief. In the mix.

                          Selections: 1-5-10-2-4

                          RACE 8: 5:51PM - ECO-ROAD HERO DUST/BLOKR CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

Easy Rosie (8) is an honest commodity only missing a drum once in five starts, and that was a fourth. Placed at this track last time out and the step-up to 1300m looks ideal. Rates a leading hope. SPEEDZONE (1) resumes here but the form he showed when last in work was good enough to feature in this. Sure to make his presence felt. The consistent NEWTOWN BRAVEHEART (5) has only missed the top five once in nine starts and that was in a Highway. Has to be included. BUDDEROO BLITZ (4) has placed two from two at this track and can run a race while fresh. DIVINE FUTURE (7) has won over this journey and is drawn to get a soft run from gate two. In the mix.

                          Selections: 8-1-5-4-7

                          RACE 9: 6:30PM - CAPITAL EA CLASS 1 PLATE (1600 METRES)

Any interesting Class 1 to round out the day. Bella Violet (5) is unlucky to have not saluted this time in with two close-up seconds to start the campaign. Her only win came over this mile journey and gets the benefit of the 1.5kg claim. Appears mighty hard to beat. KING OF SPADES (3) tried to lead all the way last time out but just got tired late. Drawn to get across easily for Penza from gate four and is sure to be in it for a long way. LOVIN' FEELIN' (11) shed the maiden tag last start and will take plenty of confidence from that victory. Can go on with the job now. Former Kiwi FLEETWOOD MACA (8) placed at Group 2 level across the ditch and will strip fitter second-up for the astute barn. Won't know herself dropping back from Randwick Saturday level to a Set Weights Class 1. Has to be included. SUPER VIEW (4) has won here on his home track and is one for the exotics.

                          Selections: 5-3-11-8-4

Best Bet: R6; #1 Girls Are Ready

                              Penn National - Race #1

#3 Miss Sprinkles She woke up when sent around two turns at 7f at Charles Town, and there is probably enough pedigree to get her around this legit two-turn trip. Capable with a big pace edge on the obvious one to beat.
#1 Cool Society Don't think she's going to be much of a price in the opener, but her recent form looks tough with these, and her sire gets about 19% winners on the main everywhere except Woodbine, so there might be some upside on the surface switch. Dangerous.
#5 Bossy Bride She has been in with some decent groups in some of those races this year, and she might like the local company a bit more than what she faced when a distant second at Parx.
Race Summary Cool Society will only need to hold form in order to land this one, but there is some worry that she's going to wind up with too much to do in a race without a ton of pace. Miss Sprinkles might be able to capitalize from right up on the splits.

                              Penn National - Race #6

#4 Colonel Moorhead He cuts back for this off a string of pretty solid efforts, and he has the kind of tactical route pace that might allow him to just stay in touch early with these. He has already won easily at this level in September, and he might offer a playable enough price while cutting back.
#7 Jumpmaster He's a reliable finisher with some occasional spying ability, and he might be able to land a perfect trip from this wide draw while keeping the pace in his sights. Third start off the break makes him liable to be tough.
#2 Triple A. Plus He has the right kind of positional pace to be right up near the splits without battling, and he might be able to get the jump on the deeper finishers from close range here.
Race Summary Colonel Moorhead turns back with really good route form to his name, and this race becomes really wide open if you get past an obvious player like Jumpmaster.

                              Penn National - Race #8
                              Picks Notes
#4 Royal Coup He's a good fit here and might work out a decent trip from just a bit off the pace. There are several chase and fade types lined up here, so his ability to finish should serve him well.
#7 Espresso Caliente He should be a mid-range price while returning to a surface over which he won his only start, and he might benefit from trying to spy the pace a bit from this high draw.
#2 Breeze Burner He has some versatile speed that will give his rider a couple options into the first turn, and he has been a very reliable performer over the course of his last five or six starts. Capable underlay?
Race Summary Royal Coup can get a good finishing trip in here, as he has the ability to settle behind the splits, and he can be grinding away in the lane when a handful of these are going the wrong way late.
