ALTMEISTER - In the last race, ran the last quarter in less than 25 ticks. An indication he can close well, and should be right there at the finish line in today's contest. RANDELLO - McKee and Hamilton getting together are a handicapper's friend. I like to wager on this handicapping theory, a thoroughbred coming back off a sharp contest within the last month. Gelding's last morning work was second fastest of the day for the distance. Another way to judge class is earnings per start. This thoroughbred has the topmost in the bunch. I think he'll be close at the finish.

UCF is a middle of the road AAC team that is 8-2 at the moment but will come back to earth shortly when the Knights start playing in conference play. On face, wins against Temple and Boston College would look pretty good but these are two programs in COMPLETE rebuild and not much should read into it. Michigan is a "disappointing" 7-4 but they've faced their usual bunch of killers early including Arizona, North Carolina, and San Diego State to name a few. It's the 30th toughest schedule according to Ken Palm and the Wolverines are really a young, deep, talent laden bunch that will do nothing but improve with more games under their belts. Wolverines win this one by 10.

FRANK’S CUTTING ROOM FLOOR FOR THURSDAY, 12/30:

My “Cutting Room Floor” plays are the situations I considered the closest to being worthy of investment but did not make the “final cut” for my official plays today for subscribers. The last play I cut for Thursday night was with Over the Total in the Peach Bowl between the Pittsburgh Panthers and the Michigan State Spartans. Pittsburgh (11-2) won their fifth straight game after their 45-21 victory against Wake Forest in the ACC Championship Game. They have played 6 straight games Over the Total against teams outside the ACC. The Panthers have also played 4 straight Overs as an underdog. Michigan State (10-2) comes off a 30-27 upset win against Penn State as a 3.5-point underdog on November 27th. The Spartans gained 451 yards against the Nittany Lions — and they have played 8 straight Overs after gaining at least 450 yards in their last game. The Milwaukee Bucks and Orlando Magic will be playing for a 2nd time in 3 days Thursday. Familiarity favors defense and low-scoring games, and I expect this rematch to go UNDER the total because of it. They won't come close to matching the 237 combined points they had in the first meeting.
The Magic are a mess right now due to COVID and are missing most of their top players. They will struggle on offense again, but their defense should be better and we cannot expect the Bucks to shoot 55.3% as a team, including 17-of-37 (45.9%) from 3-point range again. The first meeting was actually played at a slow pace but the shooting made up for it. It also didn't help that the Magic went 22-of-26 (84.6%) from the FT line.
The UNDER is 5-2 in the last seven meetings. The UNDER is 17-8 in Bucks last 25 games after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game. The UNDER is 12-3 in Magic last 15 games following an ATS loss. The UNDER is 5-1 in Magic last six after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game. Bet the UNDER in this game Thursday.

The Milwaukee Bucks are as healthy as they have been all season right now. They just got Giannis back and he came out and said he needed that multiple week break. This team has been dominant when Giannis, Middleton and Holliday have been on the floor at the same time. But they have everyone but Brook Lopez healthy now. They should roll a Orlando Magic team that is in the midst of a terrible COVID outbreak with 11 players on the injury report. They will be without Cole Anthony and Mo Bamba among others. The Bucks are 10-0 in their last nine meetings with the Magic with all 10 wins coming by 9 points or more and by an average of 18.6 points per game. They just beat the Magic by 17 last time out after leading by 27 at halftime before coasting in the 2nd half. Give me the Bucks.

The Sabres fell by a 4-3 score at home against the Devils last night and despite the Islanders Covid issues, I suspect Buffalo will be in tough again on Thursday night at UBS Arena. We can expect Malcolm Subban and his sub-.880 save percentage in goal for Buffalo in this back-to-back spot. As I mentioned, the Isles are missing a number of key contributors, but so are the Sabres, and let's face it that's the situation for most NHL teams right now. On a positive note, New York is expected to have Mat Barzal back on the ice. This is a matchup it should be able to handle even without its full compliment of players. I see the Isles using this post-holiday break as an opportunity to start fresh and perhaps turn their season around after showing signs of life prior to the shutdown. Take New York.

Their 9-2 record is boosted by an 8-0 home record against the softest schedule I've ever seen. They are 1-2 in true road games losing to Utah and Texas A&M with their lone victory coming against a bad UT-Arlington team. This will be their first road game since November 16th. They take on a very underrated Utah Valley State team that is 9-3 this season with its only losses all coming on the road to Boise State, Southern Utah and Wyoming. They also beat Washington on the road as 5.5-point dogs and upset BYU at home as 13-point dogs. They have played a road-heavy schedule with 8 games on the highway compared to just 4 at home. They are 4-0 at home and winning by 23.0 PPG. The Wolverines are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games off a win. Take Utah Valley State.

Texas State is the defending Sun Belt Conference champion. But the Bobcats have been overrated this season with a losing point spread record. They rank 325th in defensive field goal percentage allowing opponents to make 54.7 percent of their shots from the floor.
The Bobcats are far from an elite team with losses to LSU, Vanderbilt and Houston by 33 points in their last game eight days ago.
Troy, on the other hand, has been better than perceived with a 9-4 record. The Trojans have won four in a row with the latest being a 69-65 upset road victory against Mercer eight days ago. The Trojans rank 98th in defensive field goal percentage holding foes to 40.6 percent from the field.
This is the conference opener for both teams. The Trojans enter this matchup confident and playing their best ball. Texas State plays at a slow pace, not good for a favorite in this price range. The Bobcats haven't proven they should be this high of a favorite against this underrated Sun Belt challenger.
