7-Unit Play: Take 601 Purdue -9.5 over Penn State (12 p.m., Saturday, January 8)

We have a strong set-up, or spot play today on Purdue. They're not only off a home loss as a double digit favorite to Wisconsin but HC Matt Painter went off on his players, reportedly questioning their toughness. I expect his players to respond well. The Boilermakers are amazingly efficient on the offensive end. They're top-10 in effective FG percentage, offensive rebounding percentage, 3-point and 2-point shooting, and they're #1 in the nation in adjusted offensive efficiency. Purdue is also pretty solid on the defensive end and will face a Penn State squad that shoots too many 3's. PSU commits too many turnovers and they don't force enough at the other end. Bottom line: I believe PSU is in a very tough spot. I'm laying the points with Purdue on Saturday. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer.

3-Unit Play: Take 728 Kentucky -22.5 over Georgia (6 p.m., Saturday, January 8)

I'm betting Georgia will be just what the doctor ordered for Kentucky to get right back in the win column after a 65-60 loss at LSU last time out. HC John Calipari wasn't too happy with his team after blowing a nine-point second half lead. The Wildcats had a horrible shooting night from everywhere on the floor, including making just 10 of 20 FTs. I expect a return to the norm for a Kentucky team that's one of the most efficient offensive teams in the nation. They're also outstanding at both ends on the glass, ranked #1 on offense and #22 on the defensive boards. And if that's not enough, Kentucky is one of the best defensive teams in college basketball ranked in the top-25 against the 3-pointer and 2-pointer. UGA is a disaster on defense and they don't shoot too well either. They commit too many turnovers and force very few. The Bulldogs just dropped three straight at home including a 17-point loss to Gardner Webb and they're playing just their second true road game of the season and first since a November 13 loss to Cincinnati. 7-Unit Play - #775-776 UCLA/California GAME TOTAL UNDER 135 -110 (Saturday, January 8, 2022, 8:00 PM)

Take UCLA/California GAME TOTAL UNDER as my top college basketball pick for Saturday night. This pick falls into one my top college basketball systems and UCLA has allowed just 63 points per game this season on the road with opponents shooting just 40.7% against them. UCLA is also held opponents to shooting just 26.5% against them from beyond the arc on the road this season and California has allowed just 59 points per game over their last 5 games with opponents shooting just 39.7% against them. California has also allowed just 61.5 points per game at home this season with opponents shooting 40% against them and just 29.2% from beyond the arc against them at home this season. I expect both teams to step up defensively here tonight and UCLA has shot just 40.5% as a team on the road this season. Play the UNDER as we move to 20-9 with my last 29 college basketball plays and make sure you get on my red-hot 27-14 NBA run that continues here Saturday.

4-Unit Play: Take #615 Over 141 -110 in South Carolina and Vanderbilt (12:00p.m., Saturday, January 8) South Carolina rank #31 in possessions per game in all of college basketball so we know the pace is going to be there. Regardless of their early season struggles, the Gamecocks have found a way to pick up the efficiency over the past four matchups averaging 84.25 points per game. While Vanderbilt's offense doesn't look too impressive on paper, it's important to note that have played one of the tougher strength of schedules so far. Having said that - they are starting to figure things out. In their last four-games they have averaged 72.25 points per game while going 4-0 SU and ATS, including two wins as outright dogs. Lastly, the Commodores should be able to clean up on the offensive glass and pick up plenty of second-chance points. They are one of the best teams in offensive rebounding percentage while the Gamecocks rank in the bottom-5 in adjusted offensive rebounding allowed. This has been bet up all morning since the opener of 137 but we still see value at the current market price.


4-Unit Play: Take #657 UT Arlington +3 -110 over Georgia Southern (3:00p.m., Saturday, January 8) Buy-low spot on UT Arlington that are 2-6 on the road vs. Georgia Southern that are undefeated at home. Both teams rank in the bottom portion of college basketball when it comes to offensive rating but the Mavericks have played an extrememly difficult and grueling schedule. They've played the #22 toughest strength of schedule as a whole, which ranks #13 when it comes to opponent defense. The same cannot be said for Georgia Southern. The Eagles have had an easy ride so far ranking #200 in strength of schedule which in large part can be attributed to their success. Even with the easy scheduling, they've dropped two in a row SU and ATS while the Mavericks are coming off four-straight wins SU and ATS. UT Arlington have a decent enough defense to make life difficult for the home team and we actually believe this is a step up in class for Georgia Southern against a confident UT Arlington program that should be able to get the job done on the road. These are two teams trending in different directions.


4-Unit Play: Take #726 Utah -2.5 -110 over Washington State (6:00p.m., Saturday, January 8) The Utes continue to underperform. They were up by 16 to Washington in their last game as double-digit favorites before being outscored by 22 down the stretch where they lost 74-68. The turnovers remain to be a huge issue for this team. They are now 5-9-1 ATS on the season. Having said that - the Utes still rank in the top-100 in offensive and defensive rating and should completely obliterate Washington State on the boards, especially when we factor in the energy they should bring after losing three-straight (twice as favorites). Utah rank #84 in adjusted true rebounding percentage where as the Cougars rank in the bottom-300. This is a step down in competition for the Utes, and as long as they clean up their turnover issues - this is their game to win or lose.
