We look ahead to the end of the month in Hallandale Beach. Gulfstream Park will host the Pegasus, with the running of the $3,000,000 Pegasus World Cup Invitational (Gr. 1) and $1,000,000 World Cup Turf Invitational (Gr. 1).

El Chavo Del Ocho came close in the $60,000 Zany Tactics Stakes placed 2nd behind Annie’s Boy by 2 lengths on December 17. This was after showing 3rd on November 5 in the $60,000 Hank Mills Sr. Stakes.

Captain Scotty is 6 for 23 and has graded experience. He’s finished 2nd, 1st, 1st, 5th, 2nd, 2nd in his last six attempts.

Captain Scotty placed 2nd behind Self Taught by 1 ¼ lengths in a $31,000 event at Santa Anita Park on March 27. Off a layoff, expect better from Captain Scotty.

Quirky Chaos finished 6th on December 5 for a $10,500 race. He’s much better than we’ve seen from him recently. There could be some value in this one.

Pretty Loud is winless in seven attempts. In his last three races, Pretty Loud has finished 3rd, 3rd, 4th. In his most recent attempt, he finished 4th in a $23,800 event on New Year’s Eve.

He showed 3rd on December 15 in a $22,100 race with a good gallop. All the way down to $13,300, Pretty Loud must be taken serious at this level.

BEAUMONT (NEWCASTLE): RACE 5 @ 4:10 PM

LONELY POWER (8) is an improver from the Kris Lees barn and should be ready to fire after the two outings at Newcastle. Gets the blinkers again and a top hoop rides from a handy gate. MEMBERS ONLY (3) is also third-up off two Newcastle runs. High stable striker Jennings rides first time and that's a lead. THE STORM IN ME (10) is much better than the formline suggests. Draws for a soft run and quick improvement is likely at a price. DODECANESE (9) hasn't won for a while but has missed a lip the last two with the latest at Wyong. A chance back to a sprint.

Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

Yonkers Raceway starts the new year with a competitive 11-race card. The feature rolls in Race 9, an Open Handicap Pace with a $39,000 purse. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 begins in Race 7, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 7

4-Mickey Gee N (7/2)-Often disappoints but has been racing better and may have a found a beatable field. Comes off some good tries before the break and could be a fair price.
5-Funatthebeach N (8/5)-Morning line chalk looks the part and gets considerable class relief. Has done well versus better and will be difficult to beat with a top effort.

Race 8

2-Weona Sizzler A (8-1)-Steps-up in the 3rd start after a sick scratch. Looks like price shot who might be overlooked but has beaten this kind from the same post in the slop on 10-4.
4-Forever Fav (3-1)-Claimed on 12-13 for $75k and won for $80k with Gingras on 12-18 from the 7 hole. Gingras has been hot and the last race in 149.3 is too good to ignore. Might be up to the challenge and take a picture versus $100k claimers.
6-Joesstar Of Mia A (5/2)-Steps-up after being an odds-on winner and has topped this kind at Yonkers. The Dowse barn has won 5 of 7 starts over the past 30 days and should be forwardly placed tonight.

Race 9

2-Save Me A Dance (2-1)-Sizzled a 148.4 mile at M1 to win his 2nd straight after being claimed on 12-4. Has hit the board in 10 of 12 at YR and has posted 4 wins.
3-Shadow Cat (4-1)-Beat Preferred company here in November and fits with this crew. Likes to race near the top of the stack and there are others who will be leaving. But could have an edge having a recent start on 12-26 at Phl. Siegelman needs to work a good steer as he has done with this 7-year-old in the past.

Race 10

2-Desire's Captain (6-1)-Will look to beat the program chalks #4 and #7. Drops to a better level for success. Gingras should have the pedal down and could wire this field.
6-Bevans Cullen N (7-1)-Has been popular at the claiming box and makes the 2nd start for Stratton. Raced well versus this kind on 12-8 but could be put in play earlier this time. Has the gate speed to get a close-up seat and should off a solid price.

Picks Notes
#2 Fastlife She has had 11 chances, but there aren't a whole lot of excuses left for anyone in this group, so she's worth a big look here. Her local debut was pretty solid, and she may be able to grind out a score against a bad group.
#5 Brody Slam She's another in with a claim on this one, but the concern is that she has given away ground late in every career start, and the drop in for $10,000 may not be enough to get her home.
#1 Relentless Candy She has been a no-show in all three lifetime races, but she does have a little stretchout pace from the fence, so maybe she'll get a bit braver if she is able to secure the lead for the first time.
Race Summary Fastlife and Brody Slam are probably tough in here, but Fastlife might have a bit better finishing ability in a race where many of them figure to be staggering late. Relentless Candy might be the right price to try to get in the frame with the logical players.

Parx Racing - Race #6
Picks Notes
#1 Drone Swarm He has shown some decent finishing ability and now gets around two turns, and there might be just enough pace signed on to set things up for him to roll along late.
#4 Sky Temple He has shown some finishing ability at times, and the race shape should flatter him from off the pace. Would want probably a little bit better price than the 9/2 ML offering.
#7 Scoop Dawg He'll rise to face winners off the claim, and he's probably overlooked while being a part of the pace. Wonder if an aggressive rider might go for broke today.
Race Summary Drone Swarm finds a spot with several forward players, including a few who draw outside and figure to have to hustle for position early. If he can save some ground, he may be able to launch a winning rally into the far turn.

Parx Racing - Race #8
Picks Notes
#7 It's So Easy She has some versatility from the high draw and figures for a really good run of things from close range. She earned the shot with this kind after a trio of super sharp scores dating back to the summer.
#2 Peyton Elizabeth She figures to get a similar trip to the top choice while racing from up close, and she has been really reliable since moving into this barn three starts back. The main danger to the top choice.
#3 Catti La Belle She has a little bit of late foot, and but her form can be hit or miss. Thinking she's capable of something better than she showed last time out, and her best gets her a piece of this at a price.
Race Summary It's So Easy and Peyton Elizabeth are the clear ones to beat here, but the former gets the edge as she goes third off the break while looking for a fourth score in a row.

#4 Captain Scotty Hard not to like him as he won his first two starts after being claimed by Ortiz, and while those two were at about five furlongs, he's won going six and can carry his speed vs. these.
#5 Stackin Silver Usually in the hunt early and should benefit from turning back from a mile race; can have some energy late.
#3 Elliott Bay Was second in two straight at Emerald Downs and can be effective at this level; big threat for the exotics.
Race Summary Captain Scotty beat quick rivals in a pair of 1000-yard races at Los Alamitos, and those efforts should make him the one to beat in this dash.

Turf Paradise - Race #7
Picks Notes
#8 Ima Trouble Maker Has been vs. good company and was a stakes winner in Iowa; has plenty of speed and fits with these.
#1 Heart On the Run Set the pace and set third in a stakes race last out; capable of mixing it up from the outset.
#4 Closing Account Was an easy winner of a maiden race in her only start and would not be a surprise.
Race Summary Ima Trouble Maker is capable of a good run from the outside and has a good chance to survive and early free-for-all.

Turf Paradise - Race #8
Picks Notes
#10 Exeter Ran a good second on turf two back and can be a big player after tiring on the main track and returning to the grass.
#1 Who's Cheatin Who Had a win and a third at Remington during the fall season and seems to do his best running on the turf.
#12 Bodega Was second on the turf two back and will be a serious contender if he can run close to that one.
Race Summary Exeter tired in a race that came off the turf but should be able to get back to good form as he gets back to grass.

You aren’t going to find a lot of racing on Monday, but for an early card in January, there could be worse. There are four thoroughbred tracks, with racing at Turf Paradise, Parx, Louisiana Downs, and Fair Grounds on Monday afternoon.

We’re not too long off from the Pegasus at Gulfstream Park. The Pegasus is on January 29, with the running of the $3,000,000 Pegasus World Cup Invitational (Gr. 1) and $1,000,000 World Cup Turf Invitational (Gr. 1).

Along with those two standout races, Gulfstream Park has the $500,000 Pegasus Filly & Mare Turf (Gr. 3) on the grass at the end of the month. There is nothing like that this week, but hopefully winners on Monday.

Brody Slam has finished 2nd, 6th, 5th, 3rd, 6th in five races. She is going to get through eventually and today could be the day.

Brody Slam had one of her better attempts two races back, showing 3rd on November 1 in a $21,000 race. Following that one, Brody Slam finished 6th for a $21,000 race, so that was discouraging.

Fastlife is winless in 11 races, but she looked at her best most recently. She placed 2nd behind Starship Subway by 2 lengths in a $19,000 assignment. That was a progressive performance.

In her last five attempts, Fastlife has finished 5th, 5th, 5th, 2nd in her last four outings. Her improvement in form recently was promising. If she hits the repeat button, the filly should draw clear.

The third race is a $21,000 race covering 6 furlongs on the dirt. Look at We Be There and Pylon to have a big chance.

We Be There is 1 for 8 and is coming off a recent win two outings back on October 27. He beat Gruntled by 2 lengths in a $23,000 assignment.

Following that race, We Be There faltered in 6th for a $25,000 purse on December 6. Slightly down in class, he should be involved.

Pylon is a one-time winner in 15 races and is looking for his first win since May 5. In his last three, the gelding finished 2nd, 7th, 6th.

He placed 2nd behind Robin Warrior by a nose for $35,000 on November 2. That was an impressive attempt from Pylon.

His form wasn’t present on December 14 in his latest race, though. Pylon was 6th in a $25,000 assignment in that one.

After that attempt, Pylon is down in class and distance. A loss would be disappointing on these terms Monday.

These two could get into a duel, with both ponies having success recently. It’s So Easy is on a heater with three straight wins since November 29.

In her most recent attempt, It’s So Easy defeated Lean On E by 2 ½ lengths in a $30,000 assignment. This was after beating Sweet Willemina by 3 ¾ lengths in the same class.

It’s time for It’s So Easy to take a class jump to $45,000. The mare should be tested by Peyton Elizabeth. The No. 2 has been running well recently as well.

Peyton Elizabeth is 4 for 13 and running consistently. She’s finished 1st, 1st, 2nd, 1st in her last four.

In her most recent attempt, Peyton Elizabeth beat Centerfold Angel by 8 ¾ lengths in a blowout for a $30,000 prize. That was a blowout and she’s in great form.

She has been dominating that class, so a hike for Peyton Elizabeth on Monday as well. After her last assignment, you have to consider the value with her in this spot.
