      Penn National - Race #9 - Post: 9:36pm - Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $10,800 Class Rating: 65

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

      #3 GLOSSY MADRINA (ML=3/1)
      #1 MUNNY CALL (ML=12/1)

GLOSSY MADRINA - This campaigner coming off a nice race in the last 30 days is a solid contender in my book. This mare is rounding her way back into shape. Should race well today. MUNNY CALL - My experience tells me to be on the alert for this thoroughbred in this affair

      Vulnerable Contenders: #5 BUSTINMYGROOVE (ML=2/1), #6 MISS ALEX (ML=5/1), #9 REAWAKENED (ML=6/1),

BUSTINMYGROOVE - This filly hasn't had any recent favorable outcomes in short distance contests. Tough to bet on her in this race. Improbable that the speed rating she garnered on Dec 11th will hold up in this affair. MISS ALEX - No picnic to wager on any animal in a short distance event at 5/1 when she hasn't shown any on the board results in sprints in the last couple months. REAWAKENED - The speed fig in the last race doesn't fit very well in this clash when I look at the Equibase class figure of today's race. Mark this racer as a likely underlay.

      STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Putting our cash on #3 GLOSSY MADRINA to win. Have to have odds of at least 7/5 or better though

        Race 6 - Claiming - 8.0f on the Dirt. Purse: $14500 Class Rating: 81

FOR FOUR YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD WHICH HAVE NEVER WON TWO RACES. WEIGHT, 123 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $5,000

        RECOMMENDED CHOICES
        The Walker Group Picks

        # 7 FOUR O'FIVE 20/1

        # 2 BIG CITY BANE 2/1

        # 5 STORMING WARRIOR 4/1

FOUR O'FIVE has a decent shot to take this contest especially at 20/1. The equipment change of blinkers going off today will probably make a difference. Has to be given a chance based on the decent Equibase Speed Fig earned in the last contest. This equine could surprise this group at a big price. BIG CITY BANE - With a solid rider who has won at a very strong 26 percent clip over the last month. This has to be one of the top choices. Ran a strong last race. STORMING WARRIOR - Overall the Equibase Speed Figures of this horse look respectable in this race.

          # 11 GOODNESS GRACIOUS 8/1

          # 5 NORDIC DANCER 8/5

          # 3 MY SISTER PAM 9/2

GOODNESS GRACIOUS has a decent shot to take this race and could score at a price in here. Sire figs (25 percent win percentage) give this animal a strong shot. The babies of this sire have historically shown quite good gains. This handler has produced entries that have consistently produced very strong board hit percentages in their first contest.

            #1 WICKED TRICK (ML=8/1)
            #5 SPIELBERG (ML=9/5)
            #3 CLASSIER (ML=8/5)

WICKED TRICK - Strong return on investment for this rider and trainer duet. SPIELBERG - The morning line odds on this colt are higher than those of the other entrant from the shedrow of handler Baffert. Often the longer-priced part of a 'split' entry wins. This horse wins a lot of money per race. Number one in this event. CLASSIER - The most dangerous animal in racing is the lone speed horse. If they let him get away early they probably won't catch him. A solid handicapping angle is the addition of Lasix for the 1st time. Baffert gives it to this one for this race.

            Vulnerable Contenders: #2 VITTORIO (ML=9/5),

VITTORIO - I just don't have a 'use' sensation about this pony in this race.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - CLASSIER - My calculations and statistics say this colt comes back dominant after an extended 'vacation' and in good shape.

            STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Have to go with #1 WICKED TRICK on the win end if we get at least 4/1 odds

Play on: Panthers -180 at SC Consensus

Friday NHL Free play. My selection is on Florida over Dallas at 7:05 pm et on Friday.
We won with the Stars in their most recent game, a 5-3 win over Seattle on Wednesday. That victory came on home ice, where they've gone 14-4 this season. Now they hit the road for a quick rematch with the Panthers after defeating them by a 6-5 score at home last week. Note that the Starts own an ugly 4-11 record on the road this season where they've been outscored by 1.4 goals on average. Worse still, Dallas is 1-14 the last 15 times it has played on the road following a home game, outscored by an average margin of 2.0 goals. The Stars are also 0-5 when playing on the road after scoring five goals or more in their last game, as is the case here, allowing a whopping 5.2 goals in that spot while being outscored by 3.0 goals on average. As for the Panthers, they're a perfect 14-0 when playing at home off a win this season, outscoring opponents by an average margin of 2.9 goals in that spot. The Stars will likely turn to Jake Oettinger in goal again on Friday with Braden Holtby in Covid protocols. Oettinger faced the Panthers twice last season, losing both games. Take Florida.

                          NBA | Raptors vs Pistons
Play on: Raptors -8½ -106 at pinnacle

The Raptors are back to full strength and dangerous. Toronto should be motivated here after its six-game win streak was stopped by the Suns, 99-95, in front of an empty home gym this past Tuesday.
Toronto also has revenge incentive for a 127-121 home loss to the Pistons on Nov. 13. The Pistons embarrassed the Raptors by shooting 54.4 percent from the floor. The Raptors didn't have Fred VanVleet in that contest.
The Pistons fell back to earth after rallying from a 22-point deficit to upset the Jazz, 126-116, this past Monday as they were hammered by the Bulls, 133-87, on Tuesday. Detroit's last three losses have been by an average of 35 points.
The rebuilding Pistons rank 29th in scoring. They also are 28th in defensive 3-point percentage and 29th in defensive field goal percentage. That doesn't bode well considering how hot Pascal Siakam and VanVleet have been shooting this month. Siakam is averaging 23.7 points in January, including 40.9 percent from 3 point range, while VanVleet is averaging 29.5 points.
Toronto has covered seven of the last eight times it has been favored.

Play on: Pacers +6½ -110 at Mirage

FRANK’S CUTTING ROOM FLOOR FOR FRIDAY, 1/14:

My “Cutting Room Floor” plays are the situations I considered the closest to being worthy of investment but did not make the “final cut” for my official plays today for subscribers. The last play I cut for Friday was on the Indiana Pacers plus the points versus the Phoenix Suns. Indiana (15-27) lost their eighth game in their last nine with a 119-100 upset loss as a 1.5-point favorite on Wednesday. The Pacers have bounced back to cover the point spread in 38 of their last 53 games after a double-digit loss at home. Indiana has also covered the point spread in 5 straight home games against teams with a winning record on the road. Phoenix (31-9) has won four of their last five games after their 99-95 win at Toronto as a 4-point favorite on Tuesday. The Suns have failed to cover the point spread in 7 of their last 8 games after a game where no more than 205 combined points were scored. Phoenix only scored 100 points in their previous game — and they have failed to cover the point spread in 8 of their last 13 games after not scoring more than 105 points in two straight games. Take Indiana plus the points. Best of luck — Frank.

The Key: The VCU Rams are one of the hottest teams in college basketball. They have won 7 striaght while going 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games. They lost by single-digits to both Baylor and UConn prior to this winning streak as well. And five of their last six wins have come by double-digits with the only exception being their upset win at Dayton as 4.5-point dogs. I think they upset St. Bonaventure, which has had COVID issues that kept them off the floor from December 17th until January 11th. They returned on Tuesday and had a lackluster performance in an 80-76 win at La Salle as 9.5-point favorites. That's the same La Salle team that VCU just beat 85-66 as 9.5-point road favorites. VCU wants to avenge its loss to St. Bonaventure in the conference tournament last year to add to their motivation to keep this winning streak going. The Rams are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 road games. VCU is 6-0 ATS in its last 6 games as an underdog. The Bonnies are 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games overall. St. Bonaventure is 0-5 ATS in its last 5 home games. Take VCU.
