Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Armidale, Goulburn and Ascot.

ARMIDALE: RACE 7 @ 5:30 PM

EZEKEIL (4) deserved the heavily-bet Maiden win at Tamworth and was immediately spelled. Was well in the market resuming at Scone in a strong form race and didn't have the best of it. He's trialled sharply since and just needs a good ride from the wide gate to take beating. MR POINTER (2) is fast and led just beaten at Port Macquarie improving again. Bullock is a key jockey switch and he won't have to improve much to go close. PHOTOGENIC (3) resumed off a trial and is good enough. Has a low gate and has won fresh. A betting watch. MIDWEEK HUSSLER (1) may be best of the rest.
SELECTIONS: Backing Ezekeil.

GOULBURN: RACE 5 @ 4:30 PM

HUNDRED PROOF (5) led just beaten first-up and then disappointed in a strong form race at Beaumont (Newcastle). Prepared to forgive that and he has plenty up the sleeve. In a top barn and has the speed to manage the wide gate. ONEHELVASON (10) also draws wide but is also quick enough to manage. Has just-missed both runs back and will go close with natural improvement. BENMING (3) is in a leading barn and did about what expected on debut. Gets the blinkers first time and will push forward. A much better effort is anticipated. GHOST HUNTER (4) had no luck first-up and has been a big city trial winner since. Keep very safe.

Al Cimaglia: Woodbine Mohawk Park Early Pick 5 Analysis

Woodbine Mohawk Park has an 11-race card scheduled with the popular 0.20 Early Pick 5 starting Race 1. That sequence has a $100,000 guaranteed pool, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 1

1-Evasive Card Shark (3-1)-Makes the 1st start for the Fellows barn and didn't have the best of trips in last. Does its best work racing near the top of the stack and Henry could work a sharp steer from this post.
3-Elroy Shiner (5/2)-Makes the 1st start for Moreau and faded down the lane in last after taking the long way around. This is Filion's pick over #1 and will look for a better effort off a more efficient trip.
5-Larjon Lucky (4-1)-This is another who will make his debut for new connections after finishing behind a well-meant winner. This will be the 1st time for Roy to be between the pipes and the Lester stable has won 5 of 18 starts over the last 30 days.

Race 2

4-Royale Big Guy (3-1)-Was bet down to 3/5 in the 1st start for the Demers barn at London and finished 2nd. Has drawn the rail in 4 of the last 5 races and hasn't connected for a win. Looking for a different trip and thinking Henry finds live cover and is in striking range at the top of the lane.
8-Cheapskate Hanover (5/2)-Makes the 1st start for the Menary barn and could pay dividends immediately for the new connections. Fits, gets JMac and this veteran likes to win.

Race 3

4-Untrouble Hanover (3-1)-Roy picks here instead of #6 who won last. Slow starter raced wide last time and couldn't make-up enough ground. Comes off a Judges scratch but if dialed on high and minds manners this 4-year-old is a player. Will lean with the pilot's choice and respect chances.
6-Itstimetogohome (10-1)-Steps-up after an incredible rally, was 8 lengths back at the 3/4's pole and sizzled down the lane and won by almost 5 lengths. That effort was too good to ignore and JMac should have in play.
8-Truffles Too (5/2)-This will be the 5th start since arriving from the East coast and has 2 wins and 2 close 2nd place finishes. Has been a player at this class and despite this post draw should be in the hunt.

Race 4

2-P L Phoenix (5/2)-Comes off a very impressive qualifier with the trainer aboard. Drew off by 6 in the tune-up and now Henry takes the lines.
5-Azure Beach (7/2)-Makes its 3rd start at Wbsb and lost all chance in last after breaking stride. Filion sticks and appears to have the speed to compete if minds manners.

Race 5

1-On The Ropes (6-1)-Willing to toss last after lagging far behind and couldn't make up ground because of tepid fractions. Did roll the back half in 57.3 and drops. Moves in from post 9 and Jamieson takes the lines. Will look for improvement at a nice price.
6-All Wrapped Up (9/2)-Drop, gets post relief and a Roy takes a seat, which is a positive driver change. This is another who should offer a fair price and has the pilot in place to provide smooth trip.

Picks Notes
#1 Xenatown She is quick enough to sit close in the early going, and that might lead to a really great trip from the inside while tracking the sharper early pace. She has some sneaky finishing ability compared to this group.
#4 Nyssa She has had a dozen chances already, so she's short on excuses, but she does have what appears to be the best early pace in this bunch. She's always dicey in the final yards, but maybe she sticks around for a big piece of this if left alone a bit early.
#3 Using Coconuts She is another with some ability to finish late, but the way her form tailed off late last year is a cause for concern. Think she's a player here while trying the local footing for the first time.
Race Summary Xenatown has traded decisions with some of these in recent races, but she figures for a pretty cozy trip from the fence today, and she might offer a playable price in a race without serious standouts.

Parx Racing - Race #7
Picks Notes
#8 Misty Taste She has been landing underneath shares with some decent Laurel groups, and she should be able to get a nice trip spying the pace from this high draw. Something like the 5/1 ML price would feel fair.
#7 Bess Tough to argue with her current form, as she has rattled off three in a row with good trips tracking the pace, and she looks like the one to beat with that serious current form.
#1 Assume Control She has been competitive with some of these in recent starts, but I worry she's going to be in for a tricky trip from the rail with some positional pace. Chance.
Race Summary Misty Taste seems capable here off her recent efforts, and her best form seems competitive with what the likely chalk can offer here. She might get a really good go of things from the outside.

Parx Racing - Race #9
Picks Notes
#3 Relishment Willing to take a price swing here on a guy with a little bit of finishing ability in a race with a decent bit of pace signed on. He was no match for these a couple starts back, but he showed some life with cheaper last time out and should be a big number on the rise.
#8 Sevier No doubt he's the one to beat with seven wins from his last 10 starts, and his early pace always makes him a danger. Think he might have a bit of company today at a short price.
#9 Silver Edge He has a semi-reliable finishing kick and was second best behind Sevier in a September try with similar, and he should be able to settle back and spy the early players as they sort themselves out.
Race Summary Relishment is a swing here in a race where the hope is the flow will be a bit tough on the forward players, and his best form among his inconsistent running lines would keep him in the picture.

#4 Brexton Drops out of a much tougher race and was a winner two back; well placed.
Race Summary Try to Capture comes from the Diodoro stable and has responded well to the move to Turf Paradise. Can show them the way here.

#5 Rousing Rubble Held second last out and was claimed by the Buffalo stable; can be in close and looks like he has what it takes to finish here.
#7 Fabulous Floyd Was an easy winner at Assiniboia Downs and has had some good appearances over this strip.
#3 Fishel Turns back from longer races and has been competitive over the track.
Race Summary Rousing Rubble ran a good second last out, can be on or close to the lead and has what it takes to last for the win.

Turf Paradise - Race #8
Picks Notes
#3 North of Eden Had a clear lead in upper stretch and was caught in the final stride of her last one; can score vs. this group.
#7 Starlight Twist Came from far back for a win on the turf and moves over to the grass for this one.
#8 Red Nova Set the pace and held on last time out on the turf and has won three of her last four.
Race Summary North of Eden can be in a good position throughout and can dig in and complete the mile in fine fashion.

1.15 – Unibet Horserace Betting Operator Of The Year Handicap (6f)

Handicap debutant Thomas Equinas is one to monitor closely as Dean Ivory’s charge might be capable of improvement, but EXCELING looks the one to be with in the opener.

Richard Hannon’s Exceed And Excel filly had re-opposing Marsh Benham behind in second when scoring over C&D 12 days ago and she was well in control at the line. A 4lb rise in the weights may not prevent further success.

1.45 – Wise Betting At Racingtv.com Handicap (6f)

Tom Mix shaped well over this trip at Wolverhampton in July when last spotted, he’s racing from an unchanged mark now and could have more to give if ready to roll after six months off.

Sir Gregory should do better for Mick Appleby before long, while Griggy is a C&D winner previously and comes here after a good effort last time.

FROSTED ANGEL has shown potential at this trip before and the filly may outrun her odds from a decreasing mark if the first-time visor has a positive effect today.

2.15 – Unibet Extra Place Offers Every Day Handicap (7f)

A slow break from a wide draw surely compromised the hopes of FLORENCE STREET on first start for Lydia Richards at Chelmsford in December.

The filly might have needed that run too. She’s better drawn this afternoon and has gone closest to shedding the maiden tag at this track over a mile when trained by Andrew Balding. She could have place claims dropped to 7f.

2.45 – Unibet 3 Uniboosts A Day Handicap (7f)

A trio of last-time-out winners in Street Kid, Whittle Le Woods and Shoot To Kill – the last-named carrying a 5lb claim for Saturday’s Lingfield win but with Harry Davies claiming 7lb. They all merit consideration.

SIR MAXI has finished second in both starts since joining Richard Fahey, those runs over this trip at Southwell and Newcastle. He finished very well off a slow pace last time and should get his turn before long.

3.15 – Unibet 3 Uniboosts A Day Conditions Stakes (AW Championships Fast-Track Qualifier, 6f)

Filly Adaay In Asia had smart form as a 2YO and is to be monitored on return from a break, but KABOO is an improving sprinter for Karl Burke and fancied to bag this prize in making it 3-3 on all-weather surfaces.

He was pitched in at the deep end in three turf runs last summer (all Listed/Group 3 events) and acquitted himself well, bar failing to really handle the track at Glorious Goodwood in July.

He’s easily won novice events at Wolverhampton and Newcastle over 5f in September and December and this extra furlong shouldn’t worry him now.

3.45 – Racingtv.com Handicap (1m)

Amongst the tougher races to be confident about, as many of the runners have reasons to doubt them.

Shadow Angel was second at Chelmsford this month on return from an absence and must be a key player if repeating/building on that now.

RECUERDAME is closing in on 12 months since his last win – at Chelmsford over 1m2f off a mark 9lb higher than this – and has been running solid races in defeat in the last few months. Cheekpieces go back on now and he should give his running.

4.20 – Unibet New Instant Roulette Handicap (1m4f)

Both Reset Button and BLAZER TWO have been accustomed to being silver-medallists of late, combining to finish second in their last six starts.

They both are likely to be thereabouts again and preference of for Michael Scudamore’s gelded son of Cable Bay.

The form of his efforts Wolverhampton and over C&D in November is reliable and a breakthrough is seemingly imminent if he keeps knocking on the door.

Three All-Weather Flat meetings take place on Monday, and our in-house tipster Steve Chambers heads to Southwell for his best bets of the day...

13:30 Southwell

Winless after ten starts, HIGHEST AMBITION has shown signs that he could be capable of getting his head in front, and the four-year-old can finally break his maiden tag on Monday by claiming victory in the 13:30 at Southwell. He failed to land a blow last time out over course and distance, but two starts ago off a mark of 65 he was an excellent second place. He takes his chance off 64 this afternoon and with cheekpieces applied if he can emulate his run from two runs ago then he can get his head in front today.

14:00 Southwell

There's a fascinating clash between the classy sprinters MONDAMMEJ and Fernando Rah in the 14:00 event at Southwell, but it's the former that can prevail with flying colours. A five-time winner last year, the five-year-old put up a really promising return when second at Newcastle off a mark of 102, and he will take his chance off the same figure this afternoon, and he can duly go one better. He will have to give weight away to the classy Fernando Rah, who heads the betting, at the time of writing, but Mondammej can show his customary late dash to get his head in front and land his first win of 2022.

14:30 Southwell

There's a hugely competitive event at 14:30 and the fancied duo of Allowed and Kingson both warrant huge respect, but it could be worth looking elsewhere for a value alternative. One that could outrun his current 20/1 price tag is ARIA ROSE, who has struggled this season, but has been dropped by the handicapper for today's event, so off a mark of 67 he looks interesting. A winner off 65 at Yarmouth last season, the seven-year-old has winning form at Southwell (albeit on the Fibresand), but he has shown to like the track, and off top weight he could land a surprise.

Horse Racing picks for Parx race track on Monday, January 24: Best bet is a Bess bet

12:25 pm Parx (Race 1) – Using Coconuts 7/2

Made seven starts at Woodbine finishing placed on the first four and sixth in the next three. Most recent placed effort came on turf and it’s of note that she raced from off the pace over six-and-one-half-furlongs on the all-weather track when sixth at the Canada venue early last month. Has registered two clocked works at this venue since and can take this on her dirt debut with a top jockey in Frankie Pennington booked to ride.
3:07 pm Parx (Race 7) – Bess 5/2

Delivered victories at three different tracks in her final three starts of last year including when racing close to the speed prior to wearing down her front-running rival to battle to a head victory in a starter allowance over a mile-and-seventy-yards at this venue over the holiday period. Tackles a similar event over the same trip on this occasion and the Mineshaft mare looks capable of registering a fifth victory in her last six starts for trainer Erin McClellan.
4:28 pm Parx (Race 10) – Dreams Untold 3/1

Registered his first victory in stakes company when scoring y three-and-three-quarter-lengths in the Blitzen Stakes over six furlongs here at the end of last month. Tracked the pace early on prior to asserting in the straight under today’s jockey Frankie Pennington and looks capable of employing similar tactics in this contest. Advertised his wellbeing with a 49.55 four furlong breeze at this venue ten days ago and the John Servis-trained five-year-old is taken to record his seventh career success.
