I love this spot for Edmonton and like I have been saying on Wagertalk Today, the Oilers are a buy team moving forward. Here we have an Oiler team who was lights out good for the first month and a half of this season and then completely hit the skids and lost game after game after game. Which Oiler team is for real. Likely the answer is somewhere between the 2, but I believe this Oiler team is one of the better teams in hockey, they will make the playoffs and they are better than the Preds. Sure, Nashville has a 27-14 record while the Oilers are 20-16 (which is a big difference), but that is why we are getting this number so low. -115 is basically a pick-em and you have a Nashville team coming in winning 3 games in a row, vs an Oiler team who has won 2 in a row. My take on this is that Nashville on their 2nd road game in a row has put up their wins, while Edmonton is literally in a must-win mode almost every night from here on out. We see good teams go on bad runs all the time and that is what happened to Edmonton for Dec and January. Now they have won 2 in a row, are feeling better about themselves, have finally found some decent goaltending, and are at home. This is a situation where Nashville is worse than their record, while Edmonton is much better than their record. I am not going to overthink this play and I am happy to just take the better team at a very low price at home in must-win mode. Furthermore, Nashville can afford to lose a game here and there and although athletes would say they try their hardest in every game, that simply is just not true. This is a very bad spot for Nashville and a very good spot for the Oilers.

Please take the Oilers as a 5% play at -115 – this line is good to -135.

7 p.m. ET: Carolina Hurricanes at Ottawa Senators

The Hurricanes (28-9-2) are 4-1 over their past five games and just edged the Knights 4-3 in overtime, cashing as -210 home favorites. Similarly, the Senators (13-20-3) have won two straight and just blanked the Sabres 5-0, cashing as -170 home favorites. This line opened with Carolina listed as a -190 road favorite and Ottawa a 170 home dog. Sharps aren't scared off by the big price and have steamed the Hurricanes up from -190 to -240. Big road favorites -175 or more are 49-12 (80%) this season. Big road favorites -200 or more are 31-5 (86%). Carolina is 23-7 as a favorite and 14-5-1 on the road. Ottawa is 12-22 as a dog and 6-10 at home. Ottawa is playing their 4th game in six days.

7 p.m. ET: Los Angeles Kings at New York Islanders

These non-conference foes are trending in opposite directions. The Kings (21-16-6) are just 1-4 over their last five games and just fell to the Rangers 3-2, losing as 140 road dogs. On the flip side, the Islanders (15-14-6) are 7-2 over their last nine games and just beat the Flyers 4-3, cashing as big -280 home favorites. This line opened with the Islanders listed as a modest -130 home favorite and the Kings a 120 road dog. Respected money has laid the chalk with New York, steaming the Islanders up from -130 to -140. Home favorites with a line move in their favor are 177-73 (71%) this season. Home favorites off a win playing an opponent off a loss are 97-31 (76%). The Islanders are 13-7 as a favorite this season. The Kings are 10-17 as a dog. We could be looking at a lower scoring game here, as the total is 5.5 juiced heavily to the under (-125). Both of these teams are "under" teams, with the Kings 27-15 to the under and the Isles 22-13 to the under.


7 p.m. ET: Vegas Golden Knights at Florida Panthers

The Golden Knights (25-15-3) just fell to the Hurricanes 4-3 in overtime, losing as 175 road dogs. Meanwhile, the Panthers (29-9-5) just took down the Jets 5-3, cashing as -170 road favorites. This line opened with Florida listed as a -145 home favorite and Vegas a 130 road dog. Sharps are backing the Panthers at home, driving the line up from -145 to -160. Home favorites are 276-139 (67%) this season. Favorites off a win are 243-117 (68%). This would also match the home favorite off a win vs opponent off a loss system (76%). Florida is 28-10 as a favorite and 21-3 at home. Both teams are giving up roughly 3 GPG. The difference comes on offense, where the Panthers are averaging 4 GPG and the Knights 3.5 GPG. We could also be looking at a higher scoring game in this one. The total is 6.5 goals with the over juiced to -125. Both of these teams are profitable to the over this season, with the Knights 26-15 and the Panthers 26-17.
