Best Horse Racing Bets for Tuesday, January 25, 2022
By J.W. Paine in Horse Racing

The three tracks I visited for my Tuesday picks—Penn National Race Course, Sunland Park, and Turf Paradise—had everything we could want for a day at the races. I found sleepers galore, a handful of favorites worth the wagers, and plenty of underdogs to keep our bankrolls fat and sassy.

Tuesday’s Picks for Penn National Race Course

We start on the dirt track with race five, a one-mile and 70 yards claiming race for four-year-old’s and upward that have never won two races.

In this inexperienced eight-horse field, I think the second-favored (at 3/1) Midtown, piloted by veteran jockey William P. Otero, has the best chance at the winner’s circle.

This four-year-old gelding moneyed five of his ten career starts, winning one. Midtown’s got the right amount of post-graduate success (two second-place finishes) to suggest he’ll prevail here.

Longtime horseracing veteran Bruce M. Kravets trains Midtown for owner Tom Coulter.

Race six is a 5-1/2 furlong allowance race on the dirt track for four-year-old’s and upward. I’m buying a win ticket on the 5/2 morning-line favorite, Don’t Losemymoney, with Angel R. Rodriguez in the irons.

This four-year-old gelding finished in the money ten of his 13 career starts, winning four, including his most recent, an allowance race earlier this month. He notably finished third of seven in the Danzig Stakes (Black Type) last October.

Brandon L. Kulp trains Don’t Losemymoney for Tesla Stables.
You may also want to make a safety bet on the 8/1 sleeper, Odie, ridden by Darius Thorpe. This six-year-old moneyed 19 of his 36 career starts, winning nine, including four of his last five. Odie is trained by Kevin S. Patterson for owner Robert L. Cole Jr.

Race seven is a six-furlong claiming run on the dirt track for four-year-old’s and upward that have never won two races. I’m backing the 2/1 morning-line favorite, Awesome Yet Again, with Ricardo Chiappe aboard.

This four-year-old gelding finished eight of his 14 career starts in the money, winning one, his most recent maiden attempt. Yeah, not a great recommendation, but in this seven-horse field, he’s a star.

Robert J.W. Johnston trains Awesome Yet Again for owner Bruno Schickedanz.
My Tuesday Picks for Sunland Park

Let’s begin here on the dirt track with race two, a one-mile and 70 yards claiming race for New Mexico-bred four-year-old’s that have never won three races. I like one of the second-favored entries (there are two in this race at 7/2), Hit a Note, ridden by veteran jockey Luis A. Fuentes.

This four-year-old gelding moneyed two of his seven career starts—both money finishes were wins, and they were also his two most recent starts. Seems he was a little unclear on that whole “go fast and win” thing for a while, but he appears to have the hang of it now.

Jose R. Gonzalez Jr. trains Hit a Note for owner-breeder Gallegos Del Norte Racing. Gonzalez put Fuentes in the irons for both of Hit a Note’s victories.

Race three is a one-mile allowance optional claiming race on the dirt track for four-year-old’s and upward. I’m calling this race for one of the morning line’s 7/2 second favorites—Big Mac Daddy, piloted by Aldo Arboleda.

This four-year-old gelding finished in the money five of his eight career starts, winning three, which puts him in the statistical lead of this seven-horse field.
Regularly ranked since 2010 in the top 100 trainers for wins, earnings, or both, Todd W. Fincher trains Big Mac Daddy for B4 Farms, LLC. Fincher has tapped Arboleda to saddle Big Mac Daddy for his three most recent races, resulting in two wins and a second.

Race nine is a one-mile and 70 yards claiming race on the dirt track for New Mexico-bred four-year-old’s and upward. I agree with the morning line here: Bet on the 3/1 favorite, McThanks, ridden by Kelsi Purcell.

This six-year-old gelding finished in the money 17 of his 33 career starts, winning seven. He’s not finished worse than second for his six most recent races (and he won two). In this lackluster field of seven, he’ll do.

Nancy Summers trains McThanks for Judge Lanier Racing, LLC. Summers has put Purcell in the irons for McThanks’ three most recent races.
        Tuesday Picks for Turf Paradise

We’re on the dirt track for race three, a six-furlong allowance optional claiming race for four-year-old’s and upward. I like the fifth-favored (at 9/2) Rockymountaintwist, with veteran jockey Leslie Mawing aboard.

This six-year-old gelding finished all eight of his career starts in the money, winning two. He notably finished second in his first professional race, the 2019 Inaugural Stakes at Arapahoe Park, as well as a second in the Aspen Stakes there a year later.

With two decades in the business, Ty J. Garrett trains Rockymountaintwist for owner Kim Oliver.

Race seven is a five-furlong allowance optional claiming race on the dirt track for four-year-old’s and upward. I’m betting my two dollars on the 8/1 sleeper, Dune d’Oro, ridden by Sahin Civaci.
This five-year-old gelding finished in the money 16 of his 24 career starts, winning nine, including the Red Diamond Express Handicap at Century Mile Racetrack three months ago. His career stats are better than those of the morning-line favorite, Tapped to the Max.

Thirty-year horseracing veteran James R. Brown trains Dune d’Oro for owner Mitch Sutherland.

Let’s move to the turf for race eight, a 7-1/2 furlong claiming race for four-year-old’s and upward that have never won three races. My money’s on the 4/1 underdog, Willtobelucky, with Luis A. Valenzuela aboard.

The standout in this unimpressive eleven-horse field, this four-year-old gelding moneyed five of his 14 career starts, winning two.

Longtime racing veteran Kevin Eikleberry trains Willtobelucky for Reunion Racing Stables LLC. Eikleberry has but Valenzuela in the irons for Willtobelucky’s last three races.

Kilmore racing preview, top tips & odds | Tuesday, January 25
          Kilmore Races
          Tuesday, January 25, 2022
          First Race 1:30pm AEDT

Racing heads to Kilmore on Tuesday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s Victorian tipping expert presents his best bets and free quaddie picks with odds from the best online Bookmakers. The track is rated a Good 4 and the rail out 3m, while racing is set to commence at 1:30pm AEDT.

Kilmore Best Bet – Lady Hampton

Our best bet comes from the Jason Warren & Dean Krongold stable when Lady Hampton looks to break her maiden at start three. Having begun her career with consecutive runner-up performances, the three-year-old filly out of Hampton Court looks well placed to break through at Kilmore. She produced a nice turn of foot at Pakenham on January 13 when running on from the rear of the field, but ultimately she found one better. This maiden field is no harder than what she almost defeated last time out, so with a similar performance she will be hard to beat. From barrier five, look for Daniel Stackhouse to have the bay filly settled in the second half of the field, from where a strong turn of foot should see her finishing over the top of her rivals.
          Best Bet
          Race 2 – Lady Hampton (#8)
          $1.90 with Ladbrokes
Next Best At Kilmore – Armed

In the third leg of the quaddie we will be cheering home the Danny O’Brien-trained Armed, who returns to Kilmore on the back of a dominant maiden win on January 11. The three-year-old son of American Pharoah settled out of the leader on that day and was quick to put the field away inside the final furlong. He had a 1.25-length gap on his rival back in second and some seven lengths back to third, suggesting the win was more than handy. Damian Lane sticks on board, which is a massive bonus, and from barrier two we expect to see Frosty settle up on the pace. With speed drawn underneath, we expect Armed to take a trail on the leaders’ heels and prove too good for this lot in her step up to BM58 company.
          Next Best
          Race 7 – Armed (#2)
          $2.15 with Sportsbet
Best Value at Kilmore – Little Pickle

We will be chasing a bit of value in the second leg of the quaddie with the Jason Warren & Dean Krongold-trained Little Pickle. The four-year-old Unencumbered mare was a complete horror show at Moonee Valley on December 31 when settling three wide with no cover up on speed. Prior to that effort, she was a smart maiden winner at Moe when eased down on the line back on December 17. She gains the services of Beau Mertens and from barrier two is set to gain a suck run in transit. Assuming Little Pickle can produce a similar effort to what she did at Moe two starts back, we are more than happy to take the $18 on offer at Sportsbet.
          Best Value
          Race 6 – Little Pickle (#7)
          $18 with Sportsbet

            Today’s Horse Racing Tips – 25th January 2022
By: Racing and Sports Time published 2022-01-25 at 01:52 AM (GMT +11:00)

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for January 25.

Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Bathurst and Kilmore.

            BATHURST: RACE 1 @ 1:15 PM

DIVINE CRESCENT (1) wasn't disgraced when fourth here on debut and will have taken plenty of benefit from that race day experience. From an in-form barn and looks very hard to toss. FEAR THE TRUTH (8) tends to mix her form but will at her peak for this and drawn to get a cosy run from gate four. Looks a threat. STRIXEN (12) may be able to steal some soft sectionals in front and can give backers a sight. DANTE ALIGHIERI (7) strips fitter second-up and gets the services of Buckley in the irons. Can earn a cheque. ARE YOU CERTAIN (5) has placed over this journey and gets 2kg weight relief with the claim. In the mix.
            SELECTIONS: Divine Crescent to win.

            KILMORE: RACE 3 @ 2:30 PM

SHOAL BAY (11) has just missed her last three with the latest at Sandown (H) lifting to this trip. Draws handy and has the blinkers applied first time. The one to beat. INFRACTION (4) also brings a string of placings and led as favourite the latest. Will be better taking a sit and won't have to improve much to be a player. RECKLESS MOON (9) also peaks and has been threatening. Draws for a soft run and is well in the mix. JAMES THE GREAT (1) led and just missed at Geelong. Will push forward but has to see out the mile.
            SELECTIONS: Backing Shoal Bay.

              Today’s Racing Tips – January 25th

There are four race meetings in Britain and Ireland on Tuesday, with competitive jumps cards at Leicester and Down Royal the highlight. All-weather fans can attack the afternoon card at Lingfield, with a twilight meeting at Southwell to follow under lights from 4.30pm.
SELECTION Track Time (UK) Horse ODDS
DAILY NAP Leicester 2:20PM Go Steady 3.25
VALUE ANGLE Leicester 1:50PM Bardd 9.0

Best odds available as at 5pm January 24th 2021. Odds may now differ.
              Today’s Daily Nap

              Go Steady

              2:20 pm

Dan Skelton’s progressive handicapper impressed over this course and distance in December, coming through smoothly on the bridle from last to first in a true run race on the testing ground. He then failed to stay behind the handicap blot Ardhill at Ascot over nearly three miles, and this drop back in trip (and class) can see him return to winning form under Harry Skelton.
              Today’s Value Angle

              Bardd

              1:50 pm

This exposed handicapper has only won 2 of his 38 starts under Rules, but he is now well treated and has returned to his best form in recent months for Danni O’Neill. This decent ground over 2m4f should be ideal, and the booking of the very talented 7lb claimer Caoilin Quinn increases confidence that he can end a frustrating run of near misses over fences.

                    #10
                    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

                    Penn National - Race #3
                    Picks Notes
#8 Britesideoftheroad Her tactical ability usually leaves her in a great spot while tracking the pace, and it's really easy to envision her landing a similar trip to the one that got her home last time out. Dangerous right back.
#10 Stormy Spell She's not always the most reliable late in the lane, but she has the right style to make the most out of this draw near the outside. Best stuff keeps her in the mix at a decent price.
#2 Morgans Melody She is quick enough to be in the mix out of the gate, but I worry that she might end up getting a tricky go of it from near the inside in a race with some other forward players likely to stack up outside of her.
Race Summary Britesideoftheroad has been pretty sharp since getting back in with claiming company, and a perfect spying trip seems in the cards. Something near the 9/2 ML price would feel fair.

                    Penn National - Race #6
                    Picks Notes
#8 Highway Bound He lands in an easier spot than he has seen since stepping up to face winners, and there is a chance he gets the right kind of setup here -- outrun early, giving him a chance to finish into the pace like he did last year at Gulfstream. Second start off the bench gives him some upside.
#6 Memory Bouquet He's probably the one to beat with some good positional pace, but his best game still seems to come when he finds the front. Capable here, especially if he can press just a bit.
#4 Odie The last three have been super sharp, but they came at the expense of a couple modest groups at Mountaineer. Worried that he gets caught up in the pace, but it's tough to argue with the recent form.
Race Summary Think the pace could be honest in here, and Highway Bound might have some room to move forward after a chase and fade effort off the bench at Parx. He's probably a better fit here at a decent price.

                    Penn National - Race #9
                    Picks Notes
#6 Dream of Warrior He is starting to get short on excuses, but this looks like a really great spot for him to graduate. He looks like the controlling pace in this 10th career start, and something like his local try from November might be good enough with these.
#10 Vatican Moon He'll cut back with some tactical route pace, but that probably leaves him outrun a bit early at this trip, giving the top choice a real tactical edge. He probably doesn't offer a fair price.
#4 Flat Busted He is fast enough to keep the top choice in his sights into the turn, and maybe he's able to track the pace and stick around for a slice of this. He's capable of better.
Race Summary Dream of Warrior should be able to control the tempo with this group, and that major pace edge makes him a very strong lean in the finale. Would feel pretty good being live to just that guy in the multis.

                      #11
                      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

                      Dover Downs - Race #3
                      Picks Notes
#6 MANONE Willing pursuit of the fave, finished second off layoff.
#1 SKY CAPTAIN Rallied for a win and two seconds to launch career.
#9 RIPPLESONTHEBEACH Changed tactics, tired in stretch, starts from second tier.
Race Summary Manone tracked odds-on favorite Ripplesonthebeach, got through on the passing lane to take a brief lead between calls and settled for second best. He could upgrade to a win in his second start off a 10-week layoff. Play 6-1 and 6-9 exactas.

                      Miami Valley - Race #3
                      Picks Notes
#1 ROSES N WINE Needed one race, might not need another.
#4 GWENS JITTERBUG Developing severe case of seconditis.
#7 MY LA WOMAN Showed little in qualifier for top connections.
Race Summary Roses N Wine, far off the gate at the start, trailed until the top of the stretch but showed some late interest in mid-track. She took money in her debut and could cash in today with a better start from the rail. Bet on her to win and place.

                      Western Fair - Race #1
                      Picks Notes
#1 SWEETEST HUSTLE Turned heads in debut, today's Best Bet from the rail.
#2 CABOT TOWER Returns to town a better horse after good try at Flamboro.
#7 SAY AT ALL SPORT Failed at odds-on in last pair, moves inside out.
Race Summary Sweetest Hustle made an eye-catching move on the final turn, drew even for the stretch drive, but couldn't pass the pace-controlling winner. She should win with a move forward off that effort. Play 1-2 and 1-7 exactas.

                        Jerry Shottenkirk's Daily Picks

                        Turf Paradise - Race #1
                        Picks Notes
#7 Aksarben Summer Takes a big drip in class and needed her first over the track; makes her second for the Van Winkle barn and can get into the mix early.
#5 Maybee a Diva Set the pace and weakened late for second going 6.5 furlongs and should appreciate the six furlongs today.
#1 Boogie Two Shoes Comes out of fast races and can show speed from the inside; can be in the hunt throughout.
Race Summary Aksarben Summer has been with much tougher foes and can get back to better form here.

                        Turf Paradise - Race #2
                        Picks Notes
#3 Lucky Stepper Ran from just off the pace and closed well for second; stays at the same price and distance and can be a big factor right back.
#6 Kandi Spun Rallied well for third, just behind Lucky Stepper last out; has picked it up in her last two and fits here.
#1 Jazzy Einstein Hasn't been on turf since last April, when she was fourth over this course; drops in class and may welcome the return to grass.
Race Summary Lucky Stepper was reserved early and ran on well for the runner-up spot in a change in running style; can win if she runs back to that effort.

                        Turf Paradise - Race #3
                        Picks Notes
#3 First Call Battled through fast fractions and faded late; can be a strong player on the front end today.
#2 Numerologist Rallied well, took the lead and was caught late in a race that went in 1:08; the one to beat.
#4 Rockymountaintwist Tired in an allowance race at Arapahoe in October and looks like a legit threat in his first local start.
Race Summary First Call battled early and had little left last time and has a good chance to get a better trip this time.

The first event at Louisiana Downs opens with a 350-yard assignment on the dirt. Look into Jess A Sweet Cat and Roc My Heart as potential winning horses in this run.

Jess a Sweet Cat should run a close race at the wire. He has finished outside of the top-2 in six-career races. In his most recent, he finished 4th on December 23 for a $6,500 purse.

That was enough for Jess a Sweet Cat in that class and it’s down to the low grade of $3,800 for Wednesday. At this level, he has to be more competitive.

Roc My Heart is winless in six attempts and is dropping in class today as well. He’s finished 4th, 6th, 6th in his previous three assignments, going 6th on October 23 for a $10,000 purse.

This was after finishing 6th in the $10,000 Dash For Cash Futurity Trial on September 17. Expect Roc My Heart to be tough to beat in this outing.

                            Purse:$11,000

Race 6 is an $11,000 event covering 110 yards. Look at Jj Cartel Keepnit and Steam Rollyr to do something productive in this one.

Jj Cartel Keepnit is 4 for 10 and has been successful at times in his career. He has finished 3rd, 1st, 1st in his previous three attempts and looking for a hat-trick.

He is coming off back-to-back wins on November 6 and December 17. In his most recent score, Jj Cartel Keepnit beat Jj Heza Fast Dash Jr by ¾ lengths with a time of 13.187 seconds at 250 yards.

The win came after a $17,000 win by a neck a month earlier. The No. 2 looks well received in this race and should be a threat.

Steam Rollyr is 5 for 15 in his career, with solid work in stakes races. He is 1st, 7th, 1st, 2nd in his previous four attempts, winning the $25,000 Gentilly Dash Stakes on November 20.

Steam Rollyr wasn’t able to follow up, but gave a good account, placing 2nd behind Love the Way You Fly by 1 ¼ lengths in the $30,000 Scoopies Leaving You Stakes. Down in grade to $11,000, he must be considered here.

                            Purse:$3,800

The final event at Louisiana Downs is a 110-yard event for a $3,800 purse. This looks like a potential close call between Roll One Doc and Cos Im Game.

Roll One Doc is winless in 13 races, finishing 5th in three straight races going into Tuesday. Her assignment on Tuesday could be a good spot to change her fortunes around.

Roll One Doc is winless in 13 outings, most recently finishing 5th on November 24 in a $6,500 event. Before that start, Roll One Doc finished 5th on October 2 for a $13,000 purse.

Down in grade, there is going to be a decent opening for Roll One Doc. She should compete with Cos Im Game at the wire.

Cos Im Game doesn’t have a win in seven career outings. She should like this one, though. In her last three races, she’s finished 5th, 4th, 5th.

Down from 300 to 110 yards, Cos Im Game should be tough to go with on Wednesday. She starts well and then has tailed off. This should fix that at a 110-yard dash.

Cos Im Game should appreciate this distance and class drop from $10,000 to $38,000 on Tuesday.
