            Today’s Horse Racing Tips – 31st January 2022
By: Racing and Sports Time published 2022-01-31 at 09:32 AM (GMT +11:00)

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for January 31.

Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Beaumont Newcastle, Dubbo and Sale.

            BEAUMONT (NEWCASTLE): RACE 6 @ 4:50 PM

ECLAIR SUNRISE (1) resumes and has switched barns. Won fresh at Ballarat two-back and then was on-speed again at Caulfield beaten 1.4L. In good hands and is very well-placed. Can win presented on-song. DON'T DOUBT KATIE (7) resumed with the Maiden win and then led missing a whisker this track and trip. Fitter and is the danger drawn to advantage. XTRA APPROVAL (14) gets a sticky gate but has been threatening a win isn't far away. BAHAHAA (4) resuming may be best of the rest.
            SELECTIONS: Like Eclair Sunrise.

As a FREE Racing and Sports offer, below is the Beaumont Newcastle Computer Card.

            DUBBO: RACE 2 @ 2:05 PM

NEW YORK LILLY (11) was in the market on debut and didn't disappoint when a handy second at Wellington. Will have taken plenty of benefit from that race day experience and looks a genuine top-three contender. LA MIA VIA (9) impressed first time at the races and has since put in two okay efforts. Gets a bit of weight relief with the claim and can fill the frame in a race like this. SUOMENLINNA (2) has placed his past three starts and can earn a cheque. PRESS SYDNEY (12) best of the rest while fresh.
SELECTIONS: New York Lilly to win.

Al Cimaglia: Cal Expo Late Pick 4 Analysis

                January 31, 2022 | By Al Cimaglia

Tonight, Pompano Park has a 12-race program with a 7:20 EST first post. The card has two 0.50 Pick 4 sequences both with $15,000 guaranteed pools. My focus will be on the Late Pick 4 which starts in Race 9.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

                Race 9

3-Shane Adam (10-1)-Hasn't been able to seal the deal at the Pomp going 0-8 but should be in the mix with this post draw. Will take a swing Paquet will have in play at the top of the lane and make the most of the post edge over main foes.
6-Island Beach Boy (8/5)-Winner in 3 of the last 4 starts fits well with this crew. Has the gate speed to get the top and Hennessey knows how to walk a quarter. Will likely be a smaller price than the morning line but difficult to leave off the ticket.
7-Feelin American (4-1)-This 7-year-old takes a good step-up after easily winning in 151.3. The start will be key and if Plano can get the top or the pocket behind #6 without draining the tank chances for a picture improve in a big way.

                Race 10

5-Beach Forecast (2-1)-Winner of 3 in a row will probably be pennies on the dollar as Hennessey looks to get the top and then back down the pace. If that plan works, it could be picture time again. Best to respect but probably not going to be so easy.
8-Odds On Pick Six (4-1)-Drops after racing well from post 7 and rolling the back half in .56 to finish a close 2nd. This will be the 4th start on Lasix and is still looking for an overdue win. Comes off the best try of the meet and looks like a main threat if Wrenn does his part.

                Race 11

1-Enzio (7/2)-Drops and gets Miller for the 1st time which is a ++ driver's change. This is Miller's choice over #3 who is the tepid program chalk. Doesn't have big gate speed but has the pilot in place to work an effective trip.
5-Crossfit Mouse (9/2)-Hasn't done much since coming to town and this will be the softest spot of the meet. Willing to use at a solid price in a race without a standout.
7-Groovey Kid (4-1)-Lots of miles on this veteran but has been racing well and could come out on top with a big try. Hennessey could muscle his way to the top and take control.

                Race 12

3-Hurrikanekingcarlo (8-1)-Will look for some prices in a race without much form. Boyd could leave from this spot, get sucked around and surprise with one move down the lane. This was Boyd's pick over the 1 and 9.
5-Sir Shuffel (6-1)-Shows some ability to pass foes in the stretch and Miller steers from a favorable post. Versus this suspect crew there is reason to use at a solid price.
8-Jadensmagicsteel (7/2)-Probably needs to be on the lead at the top of the lane to win and even from this post that is a possibility. The post makes the price and there isn't much gate speed in the field.

                0.50 Late Pick 4

                3,6,7/5,8/1,5,7/3,5,8
                Total Bet=$27

                  #9
                  Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

                  Parx Racing - Race #2
                  Picks Notes
#7 Enforcer His Keeneland sprint try wasn't all bad, and he should be able to find a pretty good trip while tracking the pace on the cutback. The firsters appear to be the main danger for him.
#5 Showing Off He goes first out today with some modest enough expectations, but he races for a very capable barn and probably won't have to be much to make an impact here at first asking.
#3 Wheresthepassion His form is a bit spotty, and he chased behind an easy winner in his local debut last out, but he obviously has enough pace to be in the mix early with these and should be in the frame late.
Race Summary Enforcer is a good fit here while turning back off the route try, and he figures to be in a good spot turning for home while right near the top. Think this local sprint trip might agree with him at this kind of level.

                  Parx Racing - Race #5
                  Picks Notes
#2 Secret Alliance Think he's going to be tough in this second career start, as his debut showed a bit of tracking ability, and he didn't get the cleanest of trips that day. Looks like it's his race to lose.
#6 Codigo He showed a little bit of late interest in his debut at Laurel, and that effort suggests the added sixteenth of a mile may not hurt the cause. Along late for a big piece of this.
#4 Be the Boss He ran well in the debut at Penn, but he'll be meeting a deeper group as he moves in with the locals today. That said, the running line is pretty competitive in here, and he wouldn't be a total surprise.
Race Summary Secret Alliance should be able to handle these with any type of move forward in his second career start, and he figures for a good trip while right up on the splits today.

                  Parx Racing - Race #11
                  Picks Notes
#2 Shes Euphoric She's a swing in here, but she has a little bit of appeal while turning back to a sprint trip. She showed a bit of interest late with similar at this trip last year, and I wonder if she can settle and come alive late in hopes the pace comes back.
#1 The Biggest One Worry is that she'll get a tricky trip from the fence, but she is a good fit with these. Wouldn't want to settle for a short kind of number here in a race where the flow may not benefit her much.
#5 Lady Mistress She is another who might be able to settle and finish if the forward players can't settle in the early going, and she has been competitive with some of these in recent races.
Race Summary Think there is enough pace signed on to go looking for something from off the splits. Shes Euphoric will be a big price with dull form, but her last sprint try produced a good finishing effort with this kind of company. Small chance to pick them up late.

                    Turf Paradise - Race #2
                    Picks Notes
#2 Provost Whistled two races back and came back with a decent third; moves over to the turf and is bred for it.
#1 Mr. Pickles Won on the turf two back and was in tough last out; fits with these.
#6 Rideo Goes for his third straight win and the latest was over this course; won 6 of 12 last year and had a barn change to Wong.
Race Summary Provost can be in the hunt from the outset and his pedigree indicates he can handle grass.

                    Turf Paradise - Race #4
                    Picks Notes
#1 Spun Line Is a tough campaigner wherever she surfaces and seeks her first win since September at Albuquerque; has mostly sprinted lately but has won at this mile distance.
#5 Paige Runner Closed well for second on dirt last out and was fourth on turf two back; has been with good company.
#8 Midnight Garden Was second last out and was claimed by Wong, who is still hitting at 25 percent here; likely to run a big one.
Race Summary Spun Line makes it a point to run into the mix in most of her races and should like the return to two turns.

                    Turf Paradise - Race #8
                    Picks Notes
#9 We're Just Sayin Was fourth in his last three and can be closer to the pace today; has a good late move on occasion and looks like a good fit here.
#4 Thetrailerguy Was second in three of his last four and seeks his first win since early last year; right there from the beginning.
#7 Monumental Seven Finished second in a state-bred stakes race last out and won a N3L race three back; can be close from the beginning.
Race Summary We're Just Sayin hasn't had a good trip in a while but can avoid traffic from this post and will have enough speed in front of him to set up a late run.

A seven-race card is scheduled for Newcastle on Monday afternoon and Horsebetting’s New South Wales form expert presents his best bets, top odds and free quaddie picks. The track has come up a Good 4, with the rail out 6m from the 900m-400m and then 3m the remainder, for the meeting starting at 1:50pm AEDT.
Newcastle Best Bet – Just A Tiff

The Joe Pride-trained Just A Tiff comes back to a Newcastle maiden following an unlucky runner-up effort at Wyong on January 18. Having been blocked for a run when entering the home turn, the three-year-old gelding didn’t see clear air until it was too late inside the final 200m. Whether he would have bridged the winning margin is another thing, but he strikes a maiden on Monday that he should be winning. The brown gelding out of Kiss And Make Up will look to get back towards the rear of the field and unleash a nice turn of foot under Alysha Collett. He clearly has the best turn of foot in the race and with the race set to be run at a genuine tempo throughout, Just A Tiff should be the one finishing over the top of the leaders in this.

                      Best Bet
                      Race 3 – Just A Tiff (#6)

Next Best at Newcastle – Eclair Sunrise

The Kris Lees-trained Éclair Sunrise returns off an eight-month spell and looks well placed to bring up a second career win on her NSW debut. Formerly with Dan O’Sullivan, the three-year-old filly brings decent form lines to this Class 1 at Newcastle which suggests she should be too hard to beat. The Fastnet Rock filly has chased home Sandy Prince and Forgot You in her career and considering this looks to be not the deepest affair, she should be getting the job done on class alone. We expect Aaron Bullock to take up the running here and under a well-rated ride we anticipate Éclair Sunrise will be too hard to run down and make it two wins from four starts.

                      Race 6 – Eclair Sunrise (#1)

BetOnline opens the week with a three-race card at Louisana Downs, Parx, and Turf Paradise. Louisiana Downs is a quarter horse card in Bossier City. If you aren’t interested in quarter horses, then I saved you a couple of minutes.

It was a big weekend of racing at Gulfstream Park, with Life Is Good the $3,000,000 winner and Colonel Liam a $1,000,000 winner on the turf. The $20,000,000 Saudi Cup is the biggest race up next on February 26. It is a two-day event, with the main draw worth $20,000,000 in the middle east.

Next weekend the feature event is the $250,000 Withers Stakes (Gr. 3) at Aqueduct Racetrack, $250,000 Holy Bull Stakes (Gr. 3) at Gulfstream Park, and then the $250,000 Bayakoa Stakes (Gr. 3) at Oaklawn Park. For Monday, we’re at Turf Paradise and Parx in Philadelphia.

Parx has 11 races worth $286,000 in prize money on the card. Head below for our best Parx Racing picks on January 31, 2022.

The second race at Parx covers a mile and 70 yards for a $20,000 purse. Monster Rising and Speighster’s Gold should have a big showing in this grade.

Monster Rising is a one-time winner through 12 assignments. She’s finished 1st, 3rd, 6th in her previous three events.

It was a solid go for Monster Rising three races back, with a win by a head for a $27,195 prize. Following that win, she showed 3rd in a $20,000 purse on December 22.

Following that decent display, Monster Rising was 6th in a $20,000 race. Heading in the wrong direction, Speighster’s Gold should be dangerous with Monster Rising regressing.

Speighster’s Gold is 1 for 14 in her career, finishing 4th, 2nd, 2nd in her last three outings. Most recently, Speighster’s Gold placed 2nd behind Wonder City by a half-length in a $20,000 purse on January 18.

Before that effort, he placed 2nd behind Cooper Penny by 2 ¼ lengths for $20,000. If she can find just a bit more kick in the stretch, Speighster’s Gold should clear with ease.

                        Purse:$35,000

Race 6 is a mile race on the dirt for a $35,000 purse. Give Akna and Lula’s Roadrunner a solid look to win the top prize.

Akna is coming off a productive run on November 2 to beat Takeittocommitte by 2 ¾ lengths in a $25,000 event. That was a good trip from Akna after finishing 5th, 3rd, 2nd in his previous three.

Before the win, Akna placed 2nd behind Hay Nineteen by 1 ½ lengths for a $25,000 purse. We’ll see if the improvement will continue, this time up in class at the $35,000 level.

Lula’s Roadrunner is 4 for 24 in her career and has looked in good form since September. She has finished 2nd, 1st, 3rd, 2nd, 2nd in her last five attempts.

Lula’s Roadrunner most recently placed 2nd behind Cartouche by ¾ lengths for a $35,000 prize. This was after placing 2nd behind Billieanne a month earlier in the same grade.

The mare had a blowout win for a $22,000 purse four races ago, so it was time to get up in class. She’s coming close for a $35,000 purse and should find the edge on Monday afternoon.

                        Distance:5 ½ Furlongs
                        Purse:$28,000

Race 10 is a $28,000 event covering 5 ½ furlongs on the dirt. Puttheglassdown and Sevier should have a strong push in the stretch run.

Puttheglassdown is 7 for 32 and has finished 1st, 1st, 1st, 5th in his last four races. He was rolling right along before losing on December 27 in a $65,000 event.

That was an ill-advised jump in class, as his attempt for a fourth straight win came well short. He was a $28,000 winner by a head for a purse on November 9.

Back down to this grade, consider a play on Puttheglassdown. I expect him to have a decent enough chance in this one.

Sevier is 20 for 51 in his career and has been a model of consistency. He’s finished 1st, 1st, 2nd, 1st, 1st, 1st in his previous six outings.

In his last race, Sevier beat La Waun by 6 lengths for a $65,000 purse. That was awfully impressive after a $28,000 win by a half-length on December 7.

It’s hard not to see Sevier as the top contender to win given his recent form.

It’s a new week and the Pegasus World Cup is in the books at Gulfstream Park. Life Is Good romped the field, as he pulled away early and made it a no-doubter. Knicks Go was well behind before he could even gather himself, though settled in to settle for 2nd place.

We’re currently on the Road to the Kentucky Derby, with high stakes prep races to come on the schedule. The next big prep race is the 50-20-10-5 point Risen Star Stakes at Fair Grounds Race Course. The first 100-40-20-10 point race is the UAE Derby and Louisana Derby on the same day March 26.

BetOnline has a small three-track card on Monday. There is Louisana Downs, Parx, and Turf Paradise on the calendar. For our first look to open the week, we’re jumping to Turf Paradise in Arizona. Turf Paradise has eight races worth $134,120 in prize money.

                          Purse:$23,800

Race 2 at Turf Paradise goes for a mile on the turf for a $23,800 purse. Mr. Pickles and Rideo should have a chance in the stretch.

Mr. Pickles is 4 for 19 in his career with some decent trips over the last few months. He has finished 4th, 6th, 1st, 5th in his previous four attempts.

Two races back, Mr. Pickles came through with a ¾ length win at the $14,140 level on December 22. After the win, he finished 5th on January 7 for a $15,960 purse.

If Mr. Pickles can recover lost form, he should like starting from the inside. Rideo should come on hard from the outside. He is a veteran with 21 wins in 59 assignments.

Rideo has finished 5th, 1st, 1st in his previous three races. The gelding beat Start a Runnin by a neck for a $13,000 purse, then followed up with a 1 ¼ length win in a $14,140 event on January 5.

If Rideo is interested in running, he should be able to defeat this field in a higher class on Monday afternoon.

                          Purse:$15,690

Race 6 covers 6 ½ furlongs on the dirt for a $15,690 purse. Expect Lolly Express and Union Brother to give a good go at this race.

Lolly Express is 9 for 46 in his career, finishing 5th, 5th, 3rd in his previous three entries. In his most recent attempt, he showed 3rd in a $14,140 assignment on January 5.

This was after going 5th on December 14 for a $17,550 purse. He should be competitive for prize money, though Union Brother could be too tough if he’s interested.

Union Brother is 6 for 25 and finished 4th, 1st, 3rd in his previous three outings. He looked great two races back in a $14,140 event, striking by 3 lengths for a win.

In his last attempt, Union Brother settled for 3rd in a $13,020 race on January 20. His speed reading was one of his best, but he ran into some hot horses.

I’d give the edge for a win to the No. 6.

Race 8 covers 7 ½ furlongs on the turf for a $14,140 purse. Consider looking at We’re Just Sayin and Thetrailerguy for a potential winning performance in this one.

We’re Just Sayin has a chance to go in at this level. He has finished 4th, 4th, 4th in three straight attempts. The last time We’re Just Sayin had a win was on March 19, eight races back.

In his last attempt, We’re Just Sayin finished 4th for a $14,140 purse. Thetrailerguy was in that one, placing 2nd behind Mo Bob by 2 lengths.

Thetrailerguy is 7 for 61 and a consistent performer since November. He’s finished 2nd, 3rd, 2nd, 2nd in four races. Thetrailerguy most recently placed in the race against We’re Just Sayin.

Prior to that race, Thetrailerguy placed 2nd behind Mr. Pickles by ¾ lengths in the same grade. That was a good effort from Thetrailerguy despite the losses recently.

He’s going to eventually find his race and get over the hump for a win. Thetrailerguy should have the upper hand at the wire.

                            # 6 FLYING GUILLOTINE 15/1

MONOLITO looks to be the bet in here. Shows evidence of the look of a money-making play, averaging a solid 77 speed fig which is one of the most respectable in this group of horses. Look for a solid pace improvement from this horse who enters on Lasix today. Handler has strong win rate (19 percent) at this distance and surface. DONDADA - Has to be given a shot versus this group of horses in this race displaying decent figs as of late and an average Equibase Speed Fig of 54 under similar conditions. Appears to be the type to be helped on Lasix here. FLYING GUILLOTINE - Must be given a shot - I like the numbers from the last race. The trainer wheels this horse right back to race again.

I've got to go with FIRE WHEN READY. Has performed soundly recently in route races, posting a nifty 94 avg speed figure. Must be considered in this competition if only for the solid Equibase Speed Fig garnered in the last race. A solid 91 avg class figure may give this gelding a distinct class edge versus this group. JACKS OUTLAW - He has been running soundly as of late while recording very strong Equibase Speed Figs. The average class rating of 88 makes this one tough to beat. RIDEO - He has been running soundly and the speed figures are among the best in this field. This racer has a fantastic win percentage in turf routes.
