(3) Lusitano was second to the top pick last time and should be the main rival once again. (1) Allegedly Perfect might wake up off the David claim and a return to turf. (4) Strategic Vision has some speed and could be tough to catch. Betting strategy: 5 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-3-4-5.

4th race – (6) Point Pleasant makes her career debut for Clement and seems ready for a sharp effort. (8) Queen Macha may appreciate a return to turf. Delta Downs Selections for February 2, 2022 – Horse Racing Picks

BetOnline is putting on an eight-race card Wednesday, with some notable tracks on the schedule. There are no stakes races on the card, but there is a fairly big stakes docket on Saturday. There aren’t any big stakes races, but at least 24 in the US.

Delta Downs has the most of the stakes events, as the Louisana-based track has ten of them Saturday. The $250,000 Holy Bull Stakes (Gr. 3) at Gulfstream Park and $250,000 Bayakoa Stakes (Gr. 3) at Oaklawn Park are the most notable races come this weekend.

Race 2 is a $40,000 event covering 5 ½ furlongs on the dirt. This looks like a go between Seven Jewels and Misty Day.

Seven Jewels is 4 for 19 in her career and has finished 2nd, 7th, 1st, 1st in her career. The mare won back-to-back events on December 8 and January 6.

In the first of two wins, Seven Jewels defeated Gee Gee by a nose for a $38,000 prize on December 9. She followed up with a 1 length win over Madison’s Place in a $22,000 event.

Misty Day should give Seven Jewels in a tough battle in this one. The mare is 6 for 13 and has a big chance of going in.

She’s finished 1st, 1st, 2nd, 5th in her last four races. In her last win, Misty Day beat Southern Liason by 4 ¼ lengths in a $28,000 event on July 2.

That was an impressive attempt, then placing 2nd behind Kela’s Turn in a $42,0000 event. That was enough to send Misty Day to the $75,000 Orleans Stakes on January 7.

After finishing 5th in the stakes race, Misty Day is back down in class to $40,000. This looks beatable against a weak field.

Gimmeasound is a two-time winner in 14 attempts, as the gelding looks for his second win in four races. He won three races back, Gimmeasound beat Diablo Cat by 4 lengths for a $24,000 purse on October 22.

Since then, he finished 5th on November 10 for a $26,000 purse. He came back to go 4th on November 14 in his most recent attempt for a $40,000 prize. Gimmeasound is down to $22,000 on Wednesday.

Minister’s Medal is 2 for 12 and has raced in great form since August 6. He’s finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 2nd, 1st in five outings.

In his latest outing, Minister’s Medal struck with a win by a head for a $40,00 purse on January 6. This was after placing 2nd behind Shanghai Brother by 1 length in a $26,000 event.

In a $22,000 race, Minister’s Medal must be watched closely and considered for a win bet this afternoon.

Union Station is 5 for 24 with a win in three straight outings. He has won from October 14 to December 17. In his last victory, he beat Hour City by a neck in a $38,000 event.

That was impressive after a $36,000 win by 4 ½ lengths on December 1. He has to be considered to win, though Sir Smack should provide a viable challenge.

Sir Smack is 7 for 16 in his career, finishing 1st, 1st, 3rd, 1st in four races. Sir Smack carried on nicely with a $22,000 win in a blowout by 10 ½ lengths on January 5. Too good for that field.

That pointed Sir Smack back to the winner’s circle after showing 3rd on November 26. That wasn’t the best of efforts from Sir Smack.

If he repeats what he did last month, there shouldn’t be a runner in this field that can hang with him in the stretch.

NHL Free Pick Wednesday Seattle Kraken Money Line +165 @ New York Islanders @ 7 ET - The Kraken are off B2B losses but had won 4 of 6 games before that plus they have played a tough schedule of late. Look at the teams they have faced recently and then look at what the Islanders have done this season and you can see that New York is over-priced here. Though the Isles are off a win last night, they had lost 3 of 4 games before that and the only win was against a Flyers team that was wrapping up a 13-game losing streak! Also, the Isles used #1 goalie Sorokin last night while the Kraken saved #1 goalie Grubauer for tonight's game and used Driedger last night. The Islanders do have the significant coaching edge here but the pricing on this game is way out of whack and I feel the Kraken are absolutely worth a look as they have a solid shot at scoring the big upset in this one. Islanders are 0-5 in Varlamov's starts in non-conf games and 2-7 in his home starts this season and I expect him to be in the crease for this one. Free Pick SEATTLE +165

The Capitals may have home ice advantage but the Oilers have the schedule in their favor. Washington checks in off an OT win over rival Pittsburgh last night. The Oilers had the day off. The last time that the Caps played the second of b2b games, they lost, here at Washington, to lowly Vancouver. It should be mentioned that Washington starting goalie Vitek Vanecek, who had been playing well and had started seven of the past nine games, got injured last night. Vanecek was unlikely to start in the b2b spot anyway, but he should definitely be out now. After an extended losing streak, the Oilers have won four of five, picking up points in all those games. I like their chances of scoring the upset. Consider Edmonton.

Wednesday NHL Free play. My selection is on New York over Seattle at 7:05 pm et on Wednesday.
The Islanders are coming off a 4-1 home win over the Senators last night. They can't afford to leave any points on the table if they want to make an improbable run at the fourth and final playoff spot in the Metropolitan Division, currently sitting a whopping 21 points back of the Capitals but with eight games in hand and three remaining matchups against Washington. Of course, with the All-Star break beginning tomorrow, the Isles should put a little extra emphasis on this one as well. Seattle has to be a bit road weary at this point as it plays its third game in four nights away from home off last night's tough 3-2 loss in Boston. The Kraken have played well on this trip but remain just 5-15 away from home this season, where they average just 2.5 goals per contest. The Isles are as healthy as they've been all season after welcoming back Ryan Pulock and Casey Cizikas last night and worth backing at a reasonable price here. Take New York.

The Orlando Magic are as healthy as they have been in a long time. They have gone 3-2 SU & 3-2 ATS in their last five games overall with upset wins over the Bulls and Mavericks. They will be playing the second of a back-to-back tonight, but having more guys available eases the situation. And they know they have two days off to rest after this game against the Pacers. Indiana is in shambles right now. The Pacers are 5-14 SU in their last 19 games overall. They should not be favored tonight with all they are missing. They are without five of their best players in Sabonis, Brogdon, Turner, Warren and Bitadze tonight. Their current lineup is one of the worst in the NBA, if not the worst. The Magic are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games. Orlando is 5-1 ATS in its last six trips to Indiana. Give me the Magic.

I will take my chances with the Celtics as a 5-point home favorite against the Hornets on Wednesday. I've really liked what I've seen out of Boston here over the last week or so. The Celtics have won 4 of 5 and are getting it done on both sides of the ball.
Boston is averaging 113.0 ppg on 47% shooting over their last 5 and are giving up just 91.8 ppg on 38.8% shooting during this same stretch. That defense figures to be the difference in this game, as Charlotte is not good on that side of the ball. Hornets are allowing 116.4 ppg on the road this season and are giving up 118.6 ppg on 48% shooting over their last 5.
Charlotte lost 90-115 at home to the Clippers in their last game and bouncing back from an ugly loss has not been their specialty. Hornets are just 12-33 ATS in their last 45 off a home loss of 20 or more.
We also have a great system in play. Home favorites of 3.5 to 9.5 points who have beaten the spread by 30 or more points in their last 5 games are 70-33 (68%) ATS in a matchup involving two marginal winning teams. Give me Boston -5!
