The week opens at the BetOnline racebook with three racecourses on the card. Turf Paradise, Parx, and Louisana Downs have races on Monday afternoon. There are two thoroughbred tracks at Turf Paradise and Parx, and then Louisana Downs has quarter horse racing.

Race 3 covers 6 ½ furlongs on the dirt for a $15,400 purse. This looks like a potential battle between Coastal King and Zero Down. Coastal King is well-rested and might have a case in Race 3 at Turf Paradise.

He is winless in four attempts, but should be much improved in this one. Coastal King has finished 7th, 3rd, 3rd, 5th in four races. In his most recent race on April 17, he finished 5th in a $25,000 assignment.

This came after showing 3rd on March 28 in a $25,000 event on March 28. Following a layoff and class drop, Coastal King must be considered in this field.

Zero Down is winless in 19 races looking for the first of his career. In his last go, Zero Down showed 3rd for a $23,800 prize on December 27.

He was running consistently at Santa Anita and Del Mar. Expect Zero down to eventually find his race at Turf Paradise. This looks like his best chance.

Race 4 covers 5 ½ furlongs on the dirt for a $13,300 purse. Look for Warfront Fighter and Tengas Masterpiece should do well with a chance to strike at the wire.

Warfront Fighter is winless in 22 races, but has claims on Monday afternoon. He should have a chance in the final furlong to edge ahead.

He’s finished 4th, 2nd, 2nd in his last three events going into today. After finishing 4th on December 14 in a $14,300 event, Warfront Fighter improved on December 31.

In the final race of 2021, Warfront Fighter placed 2nd behind Not Necessarily by 2 ½ lengths in an $11,200 assignment, and then behind Circle West by 2 ¾ lengths in a $13,300 race most recently on January 24.

Tengas Masterpiece is 6th, 4th in two races in 2019 and 2020. In his last attempt, Tengas Masterpiece finished 4th on August 30, 2020 in a $28,000 event.

After a lengthy break, Tengas Masterpiece looks better off than back then in workouts. A class drop to $13,300 should help plenty, too.

Race 7 is a mile on the dirt for a $23,800 purse. I’d consider Blue Azul and Shinny to have a strong performance this afternoon in the desert.

Blue Azul is 10 for 34 and coming off a winning run on January 25. He beat Playoff Bound by 1 ½ lengths for a $14,140 purse in that one after finishing 4th on January 11 for a $27,300 prize.

Blue Azul placed 2nd behind Swamp Souffle by a half-length for a $15,960 purse on December 30 three races back. At the $23,800 level, we’ll see if he can handle the class this time.

Shinny is 14 for 23 in his career and recently ended a ten-race winning streak on January 5. He placed 2nd behind Rideo by 1 ¼ lengths in a $14,140 event.

Prior to that loss, the first since April 7, Shinny had a 2 length win for a $13,130 prize. He’s up in class as well, but believe he has the edge on Blue Azul for the win.

Secret Sheema from the Ben Brisbourne stable is racing in great form without breaking through for a win and looks a clear best bet at Benalla. The four-year-old Proisir mare has three consecutive runner-up finishes to her name but looks well placed to break through for what will be just her second career win. She was held up for a run in the home straight last time out at Geelong when only seeing clear air at the 100m mark. When she did get out, she drove hard to go down by a short half head in an unlucky result here she was a good thing beaten. From barrier nine, Hannah Edgley will look to have her settled in the first half a dozen with cover and if she can replicate a similar turn of foot as she did at Geelong, she looks the goods. The $2.15 on offer from Neds looks a steal based on recent form.

In the opening leg of the quaddie, we are happy to side with the Craig Weeding-trained Victory Chuckle who has returned in fine form this campaign. From four runs this time in, the four-year-old son of Sebring has a win and three minor placings and looks well-placed to chalk up another win. He absolutely flew home at Wagga last time out on January 26, but ultimately left his run too late. With Hannah Edgley on board, we expect to see the chestnut gelding to settle at the rear of the field. With Edgley’s 3kg claim, it will benefit his chances of letting down late with 60kg on his back, just 1kg more than what he carried at Wagga. He has the best turn of foot in the race and as long as he is within striking distance on the home turn, Victory Chuckle should prove too good for this lot.

Despite being a 15-start maiden, we are anticipating that the Ben Brisbourne-trained Anahera can breakthrough for a win on Monday. She was racing in tight room last time out at Benalla on January 16 and could not let down to the best of her ability. Prior to that she had chased home the smart Queen Of Sass and three runs back was only beaten a length when finishing second. From barrier seven, Lewis German will need a touch of luck in finding the Anacheeva mare a bit of cover around midfield. If she does, she has shown in certain stages of her career to be armed with a nice turn of foot. With $12 on offer from Sportsbet, we are willing to take that price.

Al Cimaglia: Pompano Park Pick 4 Analysis-$15,000 Guaranteed Pool

Pompano Park has an 11-race card ready to go with the 0.50 Pick 4 starting in Race 6. The sequence has a $15,000 guaranteed pool with a 12% takeout, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 6

3-Odds On Pick Six (5/2)-Comes off a solid effort from post 8 at this class and paced the 2nd half in .55. This will be the 5th race on Lasix and could be sitting on a try.
4-Beach Forecast (8/5)-Did the heavy lifting last time and got on the point but was nipped by the pocket sitter. Hennessey should be leaving and looking to make every call a winning one.

Race 7

2-Americanation (6-1)-Miller sticks and comes off some even tries but drops to a soft spot. Should be in the mix versus this group.
4-Dinky Dunne (6-1)-Ten-year-old doesn't win often but this is the level where a top try could happen and should be a price. Shetler will look to get sucked around and use one strong brush down the lane.
7-Mister Daytona N (7/5)-Drops to the lowest level of the meet and Hennessey gets the assignment. Should be able to get the top without much trouble and if so chances for an overdue picture improve.

Race 8

3-Soo Handsome (3-1)-Drops and is now at a level to cash the top check. Plano should have in play and from the start.
5-Enzio (4-1)-Steps-up but comes off a dominant win, draws well and Miller picks over #1 and #2. The Paver barn has been rolling and this 6-year-old has hit the board in 12 of 20 at the Pomp with 6 wins.
8-For A Dreamer (10-1)-Drops into the same class as the previous win. Will take a swing for a price, has enough gate speed to get a close-up seat and does good work at PPk.

Race 9

1-Dakota Jack (6-1)-Makes the 2nd start for the Brinson barn and Miller sticks. Could get a better trip tonight, the 26.3 opening quarter didn't help chances in last.
5-Trashytonguetalker (5/2)-Was in with the one above last time and sizzled the opening quarter but that took its toll late in the mile. Looking for a different script to play out here.
7-Island Beach Boy (9/5)-Beaten favorite got a pocket ride after leaving from post 6 and lost by a nose. Will respect chances of Hennessey providing a sharp steer but there is gate speed inside. The last winner isn't in this field and should be bet hard again.

#4 Splicethemainbrace He has bested a few of these in recent scores, and there isn't a whole lot to argue with on the recent form. He's quick enough to be right in the mix again here, and his ability to press and finish makes him even more dangerous here.
#3 Parsimony He's a good fit here and should be right up on the early splits again today. Think the top choice has a touch better versatility, and that one might offer a bit better price, too. Dangerous.
#1 King Kumbalay The Aqueduct try wasn't anything to write home about, but he should be able to save some ground while racing off the pace here, and his only local try was pretty sharp when second to the top choice.
Race Summary Splicethemainbrace has been very tough with this kind in recent starts, and he projects for another perfect trip right up near the top. Something similar to the last pair would do the trick.

Parx Racing - Race #10
Picks Notes
#1 Factor This In He was never really involved last time out, but he is capable of showing some better pace, and he might have a go for it from the fence while getting back around two turns. Hit or miss form fits on a good day.
#3 Silver Edge He's a pretty reliable finishing type, but I worry someone might be able to get the jump on him and hold late. That said, there is a decent enough bit of pace signed on, so his rally should make him a late player.
#2 Flat Out Flying He's another with some pretty solid late ability, but he's probably going to get bet a bit here and might rally too late. Can't argue with anyone landing here.
Race Summary Factor This In will have to deal with some other pace, but he figures to try to go from the fence while the other pace hustles from the outside. Let's see if he can be the best of the pace.

Parx Racing - Race #11
Picks Notes
#5 Mamaigotthis Reliable finisher should get a decent setup today with a few forward players signed on, and he has really consistent form for a runner at this type of level. Something like the 5/1 ML price would feel appealing.
#8 Call Me G Q He will get a big jump on the top choice, and he might be able to relax just enough to avoid getting caught up with any of the other forward players. He's a good fit at this kind of price.
#9 Jacohare He showed nothing last time out, but he was in with a much better group that afternoon. He has been in with some tougher company in those recent starts, so the drop might be enough to get him home.
Race Summary Mamaigotthis meets a decent little bit of pace in here, and that might set things up for his big late rally. He does have a habit of settling for underneath slices, but the race flow might be advantageous enough to get him home.

Race Summary Balius was sharp in a race that came off he turf and can be a factor throughout.

#3 Blue Azul Can be in front or from just off the pace and has the class to prevail here.
#1 Shinny had won nine straight until a second-place finish here last out; moves over to the main track.
#8 Avalon King Rapid customer usually ends up on the lead and can take it to them early here.
Race Summary Blue Azul can adjust to the pace and is game enough to dig in vs. these.

#1 Last Renegade Broke his maiden at Los Al and has been in strong turf allowances at Santa Anita; gets a huge class drop here.
#2 Tengo Sed Was a winner the last time he was on dirt, and that one came at 4.5 furlongs; can be on or close to the lead throughout.
#6 Abraaj Mirage Drops out of tough races and can be in the mix from the outset.

This is a small racecard to open the racing on Monday afternoon. There are two thoroughbred cards at Turf Paradise and Parx. Louisana Downs is hosting quarter horse races this afternoon in Bossier City.

Same Moon is a two-time winner in 16 assignments, with a most recent for her team on October 27. That was five races back, since then finishing 8th, 3rd, 3rd, 6th in four outings.

In her latest, the mare finished 6th in a $21,000 race on January 15. She was coming off a better start on January 3, showing 3rd in the same grade.

Wonder City is 2 for 14 in her career, and coming off a big race for a $20,000 win by a half-length score. It was a nice effort from Wonder City after dropping in class from the $27,000 grade.

She should see similar competition on the track Monday afternoon. The nod appears to be with Wonder City here.

Thorny Tale is 8 for 25 and could be a good value at post time. He’s finished 1st, 2nd, 4th, 4th in his previous four looks, most recently winning on November 2.

Thorny Tale defeated Star Sign by a neck for a $30,000 prize in that one. Since then, he didn’t go back to the winner’s circle.

In his last race, Thorny Tale disappointed in 4th for a $30,000 purse on January 19. Better will be required to get into the mix on Monday.

Hollywood Jet is 5 for 10 and is going to have a solid opportunity after a hat-trick. He is looking for another win for four in a row today.

In his latest outing, Hollywood Jet came through with a 1 length win over Brazen in a $45,000 race on November 16. This followed a $42,000 7 ½ length blowout in October.

Hollywood Jet is in his best form recently. He had a 59.13 second 5-furlong workout on December 18 and still looked in great shape after the win a month earlier. Hollywood Jet should be too good in this one.
