HorseBetting’s New South Wales form analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers for the seven-race metropolitan meeting at Warwick Farm on Wednesday, with odds from Australia’s top Bookmakers. The track is rated a Heavy 8, the rail is out 3m for the entire course, and the first race is set to jump at 2:20pm AEDT.
Best Bet – Kipsbay

Chris Waller and Jason Collett combine in the second race of the day with three-year-old gelding Kipsbay. The son of Capitalist has been knocking on the door recently but hasn’t quite been able to break through, running well at Canterbury and Doomben in his past two starts. Kipsbay has been scratched multiple times in the past fortnight in Queensland due to drawing wide barriers, so we are hoping to see him start on Wednesday from barrier eight in this 16-horse field. After starting as a heavily backed favourite last time out over 1200m at Doomben on a Soft 7, he struggled to make ground off a very slow tempo, so he can be forgiven for that. While he does find himself over 1200m again, Kipsbay should be able to settle a bit closer under Collett from the good draw and give himself every chance to break through at start five.

Next Best Bet – Benaud

Any horse that has had a sniff of Profondo should be respected, let alone a galloper who got within four lengths of the Group 1 winner. Benaud, a three-year-old son of Reliable Man returns for his autumn campaign as a gelding, after running third in the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes behind Head Of State and Profondo, and then finishing 4.5 lengths off Profondo again in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes in October. The John O’Shea-trained gelding has had two trials, which should have him fit enough for this first-up assignment over 1400m. On debut, Benaud won comfortably at Nowra over this distance on a Soft 7 track, so there is no reason why he can’t repeat that effort in this 3YO Benchmark 68, although this is a tougher field. He will have to carry 60kg, but from the inside alley, we are hoping Hugh Bowman can conserve the grey for one last crack at them in the straight. He is likely to be on an Australian Derby campaign, so watch for him doing his best work late.

In the penultimate race, James McDonald partners a newcomer to the Annabel Neasham stable. Score heads to New South Wales after leaving the John Sadler stable in Victoria following her most recent start, when second behind Open Minder in a Benchmark 84 over 1400m at Caulfield. That galloper has since won again, leading all of the way in the Listed John Dillon Stakes on Australia Day to defeat Lighthouse, who won the Listed Chester Manifold Stakes at her prior start. That looks like the right form coming into this Benchmark 72, while Score should be nearing peak fitness in her fifth run for this campaign. The five-year-old daughter of Written Tycoon will have to overcome barrier 16 and carry 60.5kg, but we are confident she is classy enough to take this race out in her first start for Neasham.

#9 Compact He might be a little interesting at a price in this one, as there are a handful of forward and chasing types who don't typically finish their races with much energy. He showed a little bit of grinding ability when trying this level two starts back, and he may be along late at a nice number.
#7 Victory Is Ours He has gone the wrong way late in both lifetime starts, but he has been in with better groups and has a claim on this as dropping pace. Still, there is some other speed in here that may complicate things.
#10 Smarty Brown He draws okay to chase the splits in the debut run, and he is not going to have to be any kind of star to make a dent here at first asking. Capable out of the box.
Race Summary Compact gets the price lean as he drops in class, and his two-back run at this level was pretty decent. Maybe he can sustain his move a bit better while back in with similar, and the chalks all seem likely to be on or near a decent pace.

Penn National - Race #6
Picks Notes
#3 Hey Congrats He can be dicey late, but he also owns some really sharp running lines when he's able to establish the lead. He looks like a good fit here and figures to be the controlling pace. Tough if he clears off.
#2 Yes It's Roo Finisher has been a decent fit at this level in recent starts, but I worry he's not going to get the right kind of pace setup here to get all the way over the top. Capable, but I'll stand against with the speed.
#5 Ready and Rich He should finished behind the top choice in that most recent try, but he has enough tactical pace to keep that guy in his sights in the early stages today. Not impossible.
Race Summary Hey Congrats looks to have a pretty important and clear pace edge over most of these, and he is capable of some pretty sharp performances when things go his way. Would love to get anything like the 3/1 ML offering.

Penn National - Race #8
Picks Notes
#3 Il Mio Amore She didn't fire last time around, but her previous form stacks up very nicely with this group. The hope for this one is that the presence of several pressing types will lead to a handful of middle moves that leave the forward players vulnerable late. Might be good for a thrill late.
#6 Color Force She seems the most committed to the front end of all the forward players, and there is at least a small chance the pressers leave her alone long enough to let her stick around for a piece of this at a price.
#7 Introspection Tactical speed fits well, but I worry that she's going to be a bit overbet, and she has made a bit of a recent habit out of settling for underneath shares. She's an obvious player, but I wouldn't want to be here at too short a price.
Race Summary Il Mio Amore can settle and save some ground with these, and she can probably bounce back tonight at a decent price. She and Color Force offer competing styles that give some coverage depending on how the race unfolds up top.
