Oaklawn Park Selections for February 11, 2022 – Horse Racing Picks

The Friday card on the racetrack has some quality racecourses with meets today. Aqueduct Racetrack, Oaklawn Park, Santa Anita Park, Fair Grounds, and Gulfstream Park are all running cards on Friday. The stakes racing is small on Friday, with two races at Turf Paradise.

Turf Paradise is hosting the $60,000 Glendale Handicap and $60,000 Turf Paradise Turf Stakes on Friday afternoon. The track will heat up tomorrow afternoon on Saturday in Arkansas. Oaklawn Park is putting on the $600,000 Razorback Handicap (Gr. 3) Saturday. That’s the feature race of the weekend.

Buckingham Prince and All in Sync should be in the mix for the top prize in this one. Buckingham Prince has finished 5th, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 1st in five races.

In his most recent outing, Buckingham Prince beat Timeless Joke by a nose for a $92,000 purse on November 3. That was a sharp performance after showing 3rd on September 24 in the same $92,000 grade.

All in Sync is 2nd, 1st, 9th in three career races. As a rookie, All in Sync looked good, placing 2nd behind Micky From Wexford by 2 ¼ lengths in an $84,000 assignment.

The $310,000 colt came back with a $120,000 1 ½ length win on November 25 at Churchill Downs. He tried the $250,000 Smarty Jones Stakes on New Year’s Day against some tough foes.

That didn’t go well, with All in Sync finishing 9th. Back down in class to a more comfortable grade, expect All in Sync to be the three-year-old to beat.

Race 6 carries a decent purse for $84,000 on Thursday afternoon. Choctaw Charlie and Pattern Bet are projected to be in the mix in the stretch run at Oaklawn on Friday.

Choctaw Charlie is winless in nine attempts with a big chance of getting over the top in this one. The mare has finished 2nd, 3rd, 4th in her last four outings.

In her most recent go, Choctaw Charlie finished 4th on January 28 for an $84,000 purse. This came after showing 3rd on December 3 for an $84,000 purse.

Choctaw Charlie remains in the same grade at $84,000, but could find this one a bit easier. Pattern Bet should have something to say about that, though.

Pattern Bet made her debut on January 7 and was in good form. She placed 2nd behind Truly a Rocket by a neck for an $84,000 prize. That’s a strong first-time run and she has looked good in workouts.

Pattern Bet should on course for a win in her second race if she builds on her last performance.

The final race at Oaklawn on Friday is a 6-furlong event on the dirt for an $84,000 purse. Look for Madelyn’s Magic and Ice Orchid to have a chance against this field.

Madelyn’s Magic has an opening to pull off the upset from the inside rail out of the gate. She is 2nd, 5th, 2nd in her career at Keeneland, Oaklawn, and Churchill Downs.

After making her debut in 2nd in an $84,000 event by 1 length, Madelyn’s Magic fell to 5th in the same class at Churchill Downs on November 28.

In her next and most recent showing, Madelyn’s Magic placed 2nd behind Peace Peddler by 3 ¾ lengths in an $84,000 event. You can’t count out Madelyn’s Magic at 12/1.

Ice Orchid is 3rd, 2nd in two outings on December 3 and January 12. As a rookie, Ice Orchid showed 3rd for an $84,000 purse, and then carried on to place 2nd behind Awesome Taylor by ¾ lengths.

It’s hard not to consider Madelyn’s Magic at this price. She has been keeping up against quality competition and her workouts have checked out. She completed 5 furlongs in 1:00.40 on January 18.

I will take my chances on Madelyn’s Magic at a value price in Race 9.

2^nd race [Clm 16000 N2L, 1 mi] – (3) Corkman was claimed for $25,000 last race and broke his maiden for that same price. That puts him in the right spot to get his second win. (7) Jerusalem Gates returned from a brief layoff, dropped down to today’s level, and finished second. Blinkers go on for this start. (4) Mr. Fidget has been contending at this level in his last two races at Aqueduct. (6) Far Away Look was claimed twice recently and comes back after only eight days following a layoff.

3^rd race [NY, Md Sp Wt, 7F] – (7) Bavarian Creme (A) was hard to load in his debut and then finished third after racing wide on an inside favoring track. (1A) Talenti had the lead in her debut and finished second. (3) Steppin’ Hawk was second in her last two tries at this level and she will stretch out in distance. (4) Juliana’s Rose will make only her third start after catching wet tracks in her prior races where she was well bet both times. Clearly, there is room for improvement for this Mark Hennig runner.

4^th race [NY, ALW 72000 N1X, 6F] – (6) Violentiam (C) was bet down from 8-1 to 6-1 and ran second in an open-company claimer. She has not faced NY-breds since breaking her maiden. (1) Snicket pressed the pace in her last two starts and finished second both times after switching from turf to dirt. (5) Towering Orbit had to race on wet tracks in her last three starts and had a pair of third-place finishes. (3) Mosienko will return from a December layoff following two second-place finishes at this level, one at Aqueduct and one at Belmont Park.

8^th race [NY, Md Sp Wt, 1 mi] – (7) Beach Boy Al (A) broke well in his debut, pressed the fast pace, got the lead, and then faded to fifth. (10) Eminency was second in his initial race which he followed with a fourth-place finish where he was less than a length from the win as the even money favorite. (5) He’s Got It makes his third start for Mark Hennig after moving from turf to dirt. (2) Barrel of Quests gets blinkers on and Lasix for the first time as he moves from turf to dirt after one race going two-turns.
