Turfway Park Selections for February 17, 2022 – Horse Racing Picks

The BetOnline racebook has seven racecourses for wagering on Thursday. It’s a modest card with Fair Grounds Race Course and Gulfstream Park the most popular tracks for wagering on the card.

Fair Grounds has a big weekend ahead with the running of the $400,000 Risen Star Stakes (Gr. 2) scheduled. The Risen is the biggest race on the Road to the Kentucky Derby so far on the prep race schedule.

    Industry Leading 9% Cashback!

For Thursday afternoon, we’re looking at Turfway Park in Kentucky. Turfway has eight races on the synthetic track for $217,000 in prize money. Head below for our best Turfway Park picks on February 17, 2022.

The first event at Turfway Park is a $12,000 race covering 5 ½ furlongs. War Tango and Party Next Door are open to a chance in Race 1.

War Tango has finished 6th, 5th in her career through two outings. As a first-time runner, War Tango finished 6th on December 30 for a $24,000 purse.

The filly came back on January 23 and finished 5th this time in an $18,000 event. It still wasn’t good enough. Down to $12,000, War Tango should be more comfortable.

Party Next Door made her debut on April 11 at Keeneland. She showed 3rd for a $60,000 purse. That was a solid go from Party Next Door.

Despite that effort and running well in workouts, Party Next Door drops to a $12,000 race. This one looks like a big chance for Party Next Door.

    Distance: 6 Furlongs
    Purse:$24,000

Race 3 covers 6 furlongs in a $24,000 assignment. Old Beau and Froome have to be top contenders for a win in this one.

Old Beau is winless in two attempts, but is going to be open for improving on Thursday. He finished 10th on December 30 in a $62,000 event.

That was a tough race for Old Beau, so it was a drop down to $29,000 on January 22. This went much better, though he still needs more.

Old Beau finished 4th and will see another drop in grade. Expect better from Old Beau. Froome should be in the mix to stop him.

Froome made his debut for Wesley A. Ward on December 26 and ran well enough for $29,000. It was an even run from Froome in 4th.

That was a tougher race than Old Beau was dealing with recently. Froome should have more to offer after getting his first race out of the way. Expect the No. 7 to put in good work for a win.

    +800 (8/1)

    Post Time: 8:46 p.m. EST
    Distance:6 Furlongs
    Purse:$30,000

Race 6 is a 6-furlong event for a $30,000 purse. Princess Nina and Adisson should be involved on these terms. Princess Nina is 4 for 21 in her career, finishing 3rd, 1st, 8th in her previous three outings.

She hit on January 8 in a $27,000 event over a mile. Princess Nina was unable to follow up, though, as she regressed to 8th on January 29 for $63,000. That was too tough.

Back down to a $30,000 race, expect Princess Nina to run in contention on Thursday. Don’t look for Addison to go away quietly in this one.

Addison should be a threat from the outside. She is 3 for 20 overall and has been putting together good work recently.

The mare has finished 3rd, 1st in her last two outings. She showed 3rd on December 11 in a $27,000 race, and then did two better to win on January 7.

Addison got in at the wire by a neck for a $27,000 prize. That was good form with a repeat effort likely enough for a win. Addison will carry good value in this spot.

Top Horse Racing Picks for Thursday, February 17, 2022
By J.W. Paine in Horse Racing

All three track I selected for my Thursday horseracing picks—Fair Grounds Race Course, Gulfstream Park, and Turfway Park—offered up plenty of underdog moneymakers.

Gulfstream and Turfway were particularly generous, giving us a fistful of sleepers, including a 10/1 super-sleeper in race nine at Gulfstream.

Before you jump down to the gory details, check out the full race-cards and the wagering options available at one of our recommended online racebooks.

      Good luck!
Thursday’s Picks for Fair Grounds Race Course

We’re starting on the dirt track with race six, a six-furlong claiming race for Louisiana-bred fillies and mares four years old and upward. My bet’s on the third-favored (at 9/2) Platinum Queen, ridden by James Graham.

This four-year-old filly finished in the money 12 of her 14 career starts, winning two.
While the rest of the contenders in this nine-horse field are likewise victory-deficient, Platinum Queen is the one with the best chance to position herself to win.

Thirty-year horseracing veteran Joseph M. Foster trains Platinum Queen for owner Kevin Spretz.

Race seven is a six-furlong allowance race on the dirt track for Louisiana-bred three-year-olds that have never won two races. I’m betting my two dollars on the 8/5 morning-line favorite in this talented eight-horse field: Bron and Brow, with Adam Beschizza in the irons.

This colt moneyed three of his four career starts, winning one—the Louisiana Futurity (Black Type) here at Fair Grounds in late December. He also finished second in the Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile Stakes at Fair Grounds earlier that same month. Yeah, he’ll do.

Horseracing Hall of Famer Mark E. Casse trains Bron and Brow for owner Gary Barber.

Race nine is a six-furlong allowance optional claiming race on the dirt track for four-year-olds and upward. I like the second-favored (at 3/1) Soul Streit, with Reylu Gutierrez aboard.

This seven-year-old ridgling finished eight of his 14 career starts in the money, winning six.

In comparison, the favorite, Charge the Line, has also won six in his career—but it took him more than twice the number of starts to achieve those six wins. I’d say Advantage: Soul Streit.

Regularly ranked in the top 100 for wins, earnings, or both since 2015, Joe Sharp trains Soul Streit for FAS Racing.
      Thursday Picks for Gulfstream Park

Let’s start on the turf course for race seven, a one-mile allowance optional claiming race for Florida-bred fillies and mares four years old and upward. I’m betting my two dollars on the fourth-favored (at 5/1) Lady Jae, piloted by top jockey Paco Lopez.

Statistically, this four-year-old filly has the best chance to beat the rest of the eight-horse field to the winner’s circle: six money finishes in nine career starts, three of those wins.

Victor Barboza, Jr. trains Lady Jae for owner Melvin Simonovich.

We’re back on the dirt track for race eight, a 6-1/2 furlong allowance optional claiming race for fillies and mares four years old and upward. I’m calling this race for the 8/1 sleeper, Bramble Berry, ridden by Edwin Gonzalez.

This five-year-old mare finished 13 of her 24 career starts in the money, winning eight—which gives her the statistical lead in this tightly matched six-horse run.
Bramble Berry notably beat the odds with a third-place finish in the FTBOA City of Ocala Florida Sire Stakes (Black Type) at Tampa Bay Downs in December.

      J. Kent Sweezey trains Bramble Berry for RyZan Sun Racing, LLC.

We move back to the turf course for race nine, a one-mile starter allowance run for four-year-olds and upward. I’m backing the 10/1 underdog in this race: Rally Squirrel, with Paco Lopez in the irons.

This four-year-old colt finished two of his four career starts in the money, both of them wins–his maiden victory at Aqueduct last November, and his most recent race at Gulfstream, a claiming race in January. And yes, Lopez was aboard for that win.

Breeders’ Cup veteran Michael J. Maker trains Rally Squirrel for owner Michael Dubb.
My Thursday Picks for Turfway Park

We’re on the all-weather track for race four, a one-mile claiming run for fillies and mares three years old and upward that have never won two races.

If Joseph Rocco, Jr. rides the also-eligible 8/1 sleeper, Do You Love Me, into the starting gate, bet them to win.

Trained by Todd M. Beattie for Commonwealth New Era Racing, this four-year-old filly moneyed four of her eight career starts, winning one.

If that doesn’t happen, then buy a win ticket on the second-favored (at 5/1) Admaa, ridden by John McKee.

This five-year-old mare moneyed six of her 11 career starts, winning one. While she began her career in 2020, she’s made all her money in the past 12 months.

With nearly four decades in the horseracing business, Eric R. Reed trains Admaa for owner Jerry Jamgotchian.

Race six is a one-mile claiming race on the all-weather track for fillies and mares four years old and upward. My money’s on the second-favored (at 7/2) Princess Nina, piloted by Thiago Canuto.

This four-year-old filly finished in the money eleven of her 21 career starts, winning four, including her first race this year, a claiming race here at Turfway in early January.
While Princess Nina’s record gives her a statistical edge over the morning-line favorite, she’ll also have the advantage of Canuto’s apprentice weight allowance.

Princess Nina is trained by owner Hugo Andrade.

Race seven is a six-furlong allowance optional claiming race for three-year-olds and upward. I’m calling this race for one of the three 8/1 underdogs, Soaring Bird, ridden by Chase Miller.

Like the rest of this 12-horse field, this seven-year-old gelding doesn’t have a world class record: 16 money finishes in 29 career starts, four of them wins. What puts him in the lead here is the fact that he hasn’t finished out of the money in his last nine races, three of which were wins.

Waylon Cundiff trains Soaring Bird for owners Louis Hoagland, Gary Flood, and Michael David Portman. Cundiff put Chase Miller in the irons for Soaring Bird’s most recent win.

DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Thursday, February 17, 2022

        Turf Paradise
Coady PhotographyThursday's Playbook features expert picks for Gulfstream and Turf Paradise.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

12:30 GP 1st BRAIN TRUST (#7, 8-1) did nothing in her dirt sprint debut here Dec. 16 but you can always be forgiving about a first run. Start no. 2, on this synthetic track at this trip at this level was much better as she prompted the pace and stayed on well for 3rd. She may have found the footing and trip she likes. -Michael Hammersly | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:02 GP 4th DRINKS ON ME (#1, 9-2) is a DRF Best Bet (Michael Hammersly). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:37 GP 7th LADY JAE (#1, 5-1) made a smart move to grab the lead into the lane in a race like this here Jan. 20 but couldn't quite fend off a smart winner. That was still a nice move forward and with the rail and some tactical speed she should get a good trip. She's worked well since and Lopez stays. -Michael Hammersly | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:42 GP 9th RALLY SQUIRREL (#8, 10-1) was claimed for $30K by Maker Dec. 5 when 8th and validated the move with a game win on this course over $35K N2L foes Jan. 8. It's most encouraging Maker does not again risk him for a tag. He is stuck outside, but he's got tactical speed and versatility to assist his rider in not getting hung out to dry on the first run. -Michael Hammersly | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:29 TUP 6th TIZ MANNY (#7, 12-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:59 TUP 7th HELLO HANDSOME (#3, 8-1) is very popular at the claim box as he has been snagged in four straight. New barn is 29% off the claim. We like that they want a flat mile right back. This race came up kinda weak for the level. Corbett gets a leg up and is 36% for this barn. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

6:27 TUP 8th CANDY WOMPUS (#9, 9-2) likes this dirt and likes this distance. Current form is sharp and you get Diodoro in your corner. For the third straight start, connections find a race where this guy can't be claimed. Race flow is fine as the 4, 5, and 7 all have some zip. This gelding draws best for the distance. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

Sam Houston Picks: Pink Posse running back on February 17
          By J.N. Campbell

Sam Houston Race Park Picks - Thursday, February 17, 2022

          Race 1: 3-6-4-5
          Race 2: 2-5-3-6
          Race 3: 7-11-2-8
          Race 4: 3-2-6-4
          Race 5: 10-8-2-5
          Race 6: 8-4-3-7
          Race 7: 8-6-1-5
          Race 8: 5-6-8-4
          Race 9: 8-13-2-1
**Most Likely Winner: Pink Posse #7 (Race 3)**
**Best Value: Paluxy #8 (Race 9)**

Most Likely Winner: (Race 3: Pink Posse #7, 4/1):

Trainer Lee Thomas has an amazing win % during this SHRP Meet, but he has only entered 4 races … winning 2 of them. Still, he is headed in the proper direction, and I always like to see a trainer runback a horse on short rest. It means they have confidence in them, and it could be an opportunity. Last out, she won nicely, doing all of her running on the frontend. Richard Eramia gets the call once again. Even if this race doesn’t stay on the turf because of rain, this mare by Street Boss should be able to handle a group like this one. Scratches will be coming … check the tote at post time.

          Wagering Recommendation: $100 Win, #7

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 9: Paluxy #8, 10/1):

Trainer Bret Calhoun comes to Sam Houston regularly, and this runner is a gelding by Brody’s Cause that has much promise. Running consistently in the MSW Divisions at Remington and now SHRP, he has progressed well. Now, it is time to try some deeper waters. The turf might not be the preferred surface when it comes to taking on ALLW Co., but with rain in the forecast, that might not end up being much of an issue. Jockey Richard Eramia was aboard for 3 of his 4 career races … That was a nice score at Sam Houston, and is something to build on, for sure. Bred by Spendthrift, let’s watch this one go at 10/1 …

          Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #8 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 7: Turf, 1 Mile, AOC50k, 3F):

As I mentioned, the Houston weather could be a factor … always plan accordingly on the Gulf Coast. If this one stays on the John B. Connally Turf Course, then I am sure that Steve Asmussen’s Carioquinha #6 will be the race time favorite. That is probably deserved, especially considering that this filly by Gun Runner is not only well-bred by Three Chimneys, but also just missed last time at this class level on the grass at SHRP on 7 Jan. I do not want to take a short price on her, whether this is an off-track event or not. Actually, my top selection is Paul Duhon’’s Anna Clause #8 because she is elevating at the proper time. Last out, in an MC15k, she was stupendous at the top of the lane. Winning in fine style by 5+ lengths was impressive, and maybe new rider Jansen Melancon can have this filly loaded for another go. Duhon is sneaky during this Meet, and he has a quality stable. I like the way he mixes and matches … what a crafty veteran. I would not count these connections out. The play is an ice-cold Exacta, whether it is on the turf or the MT … let’s roll!

          Wagering Recommendation: $2 Exacta Cold, 8 w 6

Rocket Picks : Gulfstream Park and Fair Grounds for February 17, 2022
            By: Aaron Halterman

It’s another Thursday of racing! For the free pick 4, we will head to Gulfstream Park today, which has a solid card. We will also be covering Fair Grounds today for the paid Rockets, so be sure to check those out. We’ve been hot lately, so hopefully we can keep it up! Let’s kick off the week in a good way!

Below is our free Late Pick 4 for Gulfstream Park:

            Gulfstream Park February 17, 2022

            Race 6: Claiming

#2 Forest Survivor has run well over this synthetic surface, and should get a nice stalking trip from this inside post. #3 Henrys World will be taking a big drop down in class for this race, while getting Paco Lopez aboard, which is a good sign.

            Race 7: Allowance Optional Claiming
            freestar

#6 Lookinlikeaqueen moves back to the turf for this race, which seems to be her best surface, as she won at this level two starts back. #2 Causingahullbaloo has been consistent at this level lately, and should get a nice pace set up in this spot.

            Race 8: Allowance Optional Claiming

#1 Loriloupies drops back down to the level where she belongs after a poor effort against tough stakes company last time out. #5 Bramble Berry gets back to the dirt for this race, which is easily her best surface.

            Race 9: Starter Allowance

#5 Prefect won a nice claiming event at Belmont Park two starts back, before finishing second at this level over the synthetic last time out. #8 Rally Squirrel was a winner over this track last time out by a nose, and can easily make it two in a row today.

HorseBetting’s Queensland form analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers for Ipswich’s eight-race meeting on Thursday, along with odds from Australia’s top Bookmakers. The track is rated a Soft 5, while the rail is out 2m for the entire course. There is no shortage of racing in South-East Queensland this week, with meetings at Doomben (Wednesday), Ipswich (Thursday), Sunshine Coast (Friday and Saturday), Gold Coast (Saturday), Toowoomba (Saturday), and then back at Ipswich on Sunday, so the fields aren’t the strongest at this one. The first race gets underway at 1:28pm AEST.
                Best Bet – Early Crow

On a day without too much quality, we are siding with one horse who does know how to win. Early Crow has only raced on two occasions, proving much too good both times. The son of Kuroshio won by over three lengths on debut at this track over 800m, before winning comfortably at his second start on the Polytrack at the Sunshine Coast on January 21 over 1100m. The Kacy Fogden-trained three-year-old now rises to 1350m, which looks to suit given he can race on the speed and give a good kick in the straight. Ben Thompson won on this gelding last time out and stays with him on Thursday, which is a big plus, while barrier eight allows him to just cruise over to a handy position and put himself right in the race. This is his biggest test to date, but we are confident that he can go on with it.
                Best Bet
                Race 6 – Early Crow (#5)
                $2.15 with Sportsbet
Next Best Bet – Hello Angel

The good thing about Thursday’s 2YO Maiden is that most of them are unraced, and they bring trial form to the races. Hello Angel has had the benefit of one trial at Toowoomba, and although she didn’t win it, she finished behind Burnish Gold – a winner on debut at this track. Hello Angel had a good solid hit out over 925m, so she should be fit, unlike some of her rivals who are coming off short jump-outs. Rex Lipp & Nicholas Hahn train the daughter of Hellbent, and Samantha Collett will do the riding, so she has plenty of favours. From barrier five, we expect Collett to take a sit on the filly behind the leaders over the 800m distance and look to run them down late. She is bred to be quick.

Best Value Bet – Shani Award

In the second race of the day, Kevin Kemp and Zac Lloyd combine with three-year-old filly Shani Award. This daughter of Shamus Award placed in her first two starts, at Warwick and Ipswich respectively, and looks like she will be even better at the 1666m trip which she gets on Thursday. Kemp has stepped her out in distance at each start, going from 1200m to 1350m in her first two, and her runs have been noticeably better each time too. Lloyd is leading the Provincial Jockeys’ Premiership at the moment, so his services will be greatly appreciated, especially given he partnered the filly last time out. Drawn in barrier five, Shani Award can be midfield with cover before charging home over the top of her rivals at the end of the mile. This looks a nice race for her to break through in on the back of two good runs.

Racing returns to Pakenham Racecourse for its weekly eight-race card, and HorseBetting’s form expert has run his eye over the card and come up with a couple of best bets and free quaddie picks. The track is rated a Good 4 and the rail returns to the true position, while racing is set to commence at 5:45pm AEDT.
                  Pakenham Best Bet – Netanyahu

We need to be patient for our best bet at Pakenham on Thursday, as the Leon & Troy Corstens-trained Netanyahu doesn’t step out until the final event of the night. Having made his Australian debut with a narrow runner-up defeat at Sandown on February 2, the former Kiwi looks perfectly placed when he steps up to the 1400m from the 1200m. Having been held up for a run at a crucial stage when building through his gears, the four-year-old brown gelding simply could not bridge the gap on the winner, who managed to sit outside the leader and avoid traffic in behind. He jumped from barrier one on that occasion but draws out in barrier seven this time under Damien Oliver, who sticks on board. We anticipate Ollie will have him in the moving line with cover throughout in a bid to avoid bad luck once again. Netanyahu has shown a nice turn of foot in New Zealand and if he brings that to this BM64 affair, he should prove too hard to hold out.
                  Best bet
                  Race 8 – Netanyahu (#4)
                  $2.25 with Sportsbet
Next Best Bet at Pakenham – Set The Sails

The Mick Price & Michael Kent Jr-trained Set The Sails is edging towards a maiden victory. The three-year-old More Than Ready colt has seemingly been his own worst enemy in all three of his career starts, as he continually over-races and simply doesn’t settle. He gains the services of Damian Lane on Thursday and if Frosty cannot get him to settle, the colt may be getting booked in to be gelded next week. However, he is a horse with a fair bit of ability by all reports and if he can put it all together on Thursday night, he should prove too good for this lot. He has form behind the smart Sudoko and All About Eve. Set The Sails will be settled in the second half of the field, but armed with a strong turn of foot, he should be the one finishing over the top of some vulnerable leaders.

                  Race 3 – Set The Sails (#7)
                  $3.70 with Sportsbet
Best Value Bet at Pakenham – Hinto Blue

The Ben & JD Hayes-trained Hinto Blue is set to resume from a seven-month spell, and we think he can return with a win first-up. With a win and a minor placing from four first-up runs, the five-year-old bay gelding looks well-placed to take out what looks to be a shallow BM64 on paper. The son of Tavistock has two wins from three starts at 1200m, including a win at the track and distance when breaking his maiden last campaign. From barrier nine, we expect Jamie Mott will look to be positive early on and settle outside the leader. With a kick in the home straight, Hinto Blue should prove too hard to run down. The online bookies are paying great odds for this one.

                    Today’s Racing Tips – February 17th

There are 5 meetings in Britain and Ireland on Thursday, with a busy afternoon of jumps action from Clonmel, Fontwell, Leicester and Sandown. The all-weather action comes from Chelmsford in the evening, with the lights coming on at 5pm for a competitive card (excellent prize money on offer as usual).

                    Love Envoi

                    Sandown 2:20 pm

Harry Fry’s progressive novice claimed the scalp of the very useful Nurse Susan last time out at Lingfield, revelling in the heavy ground and showing a terrific attitude for pressure in the very deep ground. Rain easing conditions through the week is very much in her favour upped to a Grade 2 at Sandown on Thursday, and she is confidently expected to mountain his unbeaten record under Jonathan Burke.

                    Odds: 2.88
                    Today’s Value Angle

                    Desque de L’Isle

                    Sandown 1:45 pm

Venetia Williams continues in blistering form, with 9 winners in the last 14 days, and this useful handicapper has conditions to suit here after a few disappointing runs. He looked one to follow up the grades when winning hard held at Ffos Las on his reappearance in November, but jumping errors and some negative rides have seen him prove expensive to follow since.

                    Odds: 6.00

Odds are best odds available as at 3pm February 16th 2022. Odds may now differ.

By: Racing and Sports Time published 2022-02-17 at 02:31 PM (GMT +11:00)

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for February 17.

Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Goulburn, Ipswich, Pakenham and Warrnambool.

                      GOULBURN: RACE 3 @ 2:45 PM

FLYING WITNESS (6) had been knocking on the door and deserved her last-start victory at Newcastle. Will take plenty from that win and looks ready to go right on with the job now. GENJIRO (3) has found form at his past couple and this is not an overly strong affair. Looks a genuine threat. CIRCLING (8) has placed three from five overall and the step-up in trip looks to suit. In the mix. GARDA FORCE (2) has placed here around his home track and can earn some minor money. BLACK BANJO (1) best of the rest in a race with only a handful of chances.
                      SELECTIONS: Flying Witness to win.

                      IPSWICH: RACE 4 @ 3:13 PM

WHO LOVES TO DANCE (2) is racing well and put the writing on the wall last time out when rushing home for his second placing. He is up to the mile for this and with Ryan Maloney taking over the reins he will be given every chance to win. Clearly on top. GUTS 'N' GLORY (4) fought on strongly to finish runner up last start and has been improving at each outing this preparation. He is likely to settle handy to the pace and with an extra 166 metres on offer today he should be thereabouts. Include in all multiples. CONSTRUCTIONMASTER (3) has placed second twice in just the four career runs, his last run for fifth was very good and with the extra distance available here he should be right in the finish. Watch closely. RED VEGAS (14) was okay last start and gets a nice jockey upgrade for this with Sam Collett taking over the reins. She meets an average field and is worthy of consideration.
SELECTIONS: Who Loves To Dance win bet.

                      KINGSCOTE: RACE 7 @ 5:00 PM

HE WILL BOOM (2) was quickly back to his best winning the 54 at The Bridge and that stacks right up for this. Needs a good ride from the 2kg claimer pushing forward but looks the one to beat. TAIPAN TOMMY (4) just missed at Penola and then won the 56 here easily. He's a threat building on that. ALPHAEUS (5) peaks and has been threatening at the provincials. Uses the rail and is also a player. ROSE SAUVAGE (10) has switched from a NSW barn on a 40 day return. Should have the speed to manage the awkward gate and keep safe.
                      SELECTIONS: With He Will Boom.

                      PAKENHAM: RACE 4 @ 7:15 PM

SEGUSO (1) has been racing well this campaign. Gave them a start on the tighter track at The Valley last time and hit the line well. Bigger track here to his liking. Expected to run well. ICANTOO (9) has had the one run back from a long lay-off and was not disgraced. Will be improved by the outing and is expected to feature here. TITAN OF CHOICE (10) has been in good form this campaign and stuck on well after being up on the pace last time. Will be in the firing line here and cannot be dismissed GRINZINGER PRINCE (6) just got there at Yarra Valley before working home soundly last time. May be looking for further now but cannot be dismissed in this company.
                      SELECTIONS: Back Seguso to win.

                      WARRNAMBOOL: RACE 8 @ 5:15 PM

ORNAMENTAL LADY (3) has been close-up the last three and is back in class. Finally draws a low gate and has the blinkers applied first time. She's the one to beat. HAUTEUR (5) has been freshened off a solid effort at Geelong in stronger. Bates goes on and is a stable favourite. Peaks and is a player. BSTRATESSA (9) resumed in SA and found one much too good. Will be better for that and will get a soft run from the handy gate. Good enough to feature. ATIKI (6) is quick and will find this easier than The Valley. Won the Maiden prior by a space and is in the mix. SELECTIONS: Backing Ornamental Lady.

Each week we highlight some probable long shots from Mohawk Park. If they do not win at first crack we add them to the H2W the following week as bet-backs or in selected features, adding new possibilities to this section.

Race 1 - Lux Seelster: Toss out his non-effort on Feb. 12 where he gave in from a bad start.

Race 5 - Wickenburgh: A beaten favorite, losing a big lead in the stretch, may not repeat that kind of mile here.

Bet-back one from the H2W last week, Hard Workin' Man, can take the first leg, most likely not at the 10-1 he went off last week. There is a chance, though, he will be overlooked enough to establish some value.

                        Race 2
Also overlooked (5-1) last week was Heaven's Superstar, whose first quarter found him short in the last quarter but needed the assignment, finishing third.

                            Fair Grounds - Race #3
                            Picks Notes
#4 Whiskey Gent He tends to give away ground late in his races, but he'll rise here to try this turf sprint for the first time, and there is enough pedigree to think he might handle the new footing. Think he'll be an okay price.
#9 Dot's Dollar He can probably be a handful here in this second lifetime start, as he drops out of special weight company and showed a little bit of tracking ability in his turf debut last time out. Figures to be right there.
#11 Lord Zed He ran very well in the debut when facing better, and I wonder if they're just trying to get away with one for $50,000 here. Any move forward here would make him tough with these.
Race Summary Whiskey Gent draws well near the inside in a race with some logical threats drawn further outside. He has a little bit of pace and might be better on the move to the turf today.

                            Fair Grounds - Race #8
                            Picks Notes
#5 Brion He showed some pace before giving way in the debut run, but his pedigree gives him some upside on the move to the turf here, and he should offer a decent number.
#11 Bet He's Ready He draws well to flash solid prompting pace early, and he took nicely to the turf last time out in that third lifetime start. Something similar to the last one probably does the job here.
#3 Lapis Lazuli He ran well when spying the speed in the debut run, and he probably has a little bit of a move forward in him today off the debut run. Wouldn't be a surprise at second asking.
Race Summary Brion might be able to play the mild spoiler in here while moving to the turf for the first time, and he should be quick enough to get in the mix early with a pedigree that should suit the trip.

                            Fair Grounds - Race #9
                            Picks Notes
#4 Suggested He's a big riser here off the $10,000 maiden claiming score at Oaklawn, but that was a pretty sharp effort off the bench, and he might land a really cozy trip behind a few that are just a touch more committed to the front end. Would love to see him about two lengths off this early.
#1 Charge the Line He could be in line for a tricky trip from the fence, but he owns a little bit of rating ability and might be able to settle in just behind the quicker types. Probably the slight one to beat from the fence.
#3 Big Union He'll have to fire off the layoff today, but he seems like a decent fit with these on his best day, and the barn is having a really nice meet so far from somewhat limited starters.
Race Summary Suggested takes a big step up after beating cheap company at Oaklawn to land the maiden win in his 12th lifetime start, but he should be a decent price and might land a perfect trip to give him a chance to prove he's good enough.

#3 SHE'SONEHOTWRITER Makes seasonal debut for hot barn, holds tactical edge.
#1 SHEHITTHEHIGHNOTE Steady check-getter, draws rail, gets Palone.
#6 FAITHFUL DAWN Yet to recapture 3yo form, can't be discounted.
Race Summary She'sonehotwriter was last seen winning here in the fall. She can make maximum use of her speed in this spot for 26-percent barn. Bet on her to win and place.

#4 SPEE DEE SHARK Race two back translates well into this spot, good value play.
#2 NARICAN JEWEL Finished on short end of photo finishes in 3 of last 5 starts.
#5 D GS ELSA Solid numbers, takes class drop, seeks first win this year.
Race Summary Spee Dee Shark can be excused for post 9 try last week and she merits a second look off her race race two back. She raced first-over into a :55.4 middle half and didn't lose ground in the stretch against better rivals. Play 4-2 and 4-5 exactas.

                              Picks Notes
#3 STONEBRIDGE STRONG Slow pace, lack of cover, wide stretch run proved costly.
#2 LOVELY BELLE Takes hopples off, gets driver upgrade, price attached.
#5 BCS ROSE Got away easy on front end, can she do it against similar foes again?
Race Summary Stonebridge Strong tracked a slow pace, came first-over after no cover flow developed and rallied too late in mid-track to catch pace-controlling BCS Rose. She draws inside of that rival again tonight and can make amends as the beaten favorite with better racing luck. Bet on her to win and place.
