Fair Grounds Race Course Selections for February 28, 2022 – Horse Racing Picks

    By Kyle E in Horse Racing — Feb 27th, 2022 8:53pm PST

Fair Grounds Race Course Selections for February 28, 2022 – Horse Racing Picks

The BetOnline racebook is offering four racecourses on Monday. It’s good to see Fair Grounds Race Course early in the week. Fair Grounds is the leading track on the card and should attract the biggest handle ahead of Parx, Turf Paradise, and Louisana Downs.

    Industry Leading 9% Cashback!

It’s a slow week, but there is a lot of stakes races next weekend. The biggest is the $650,000 Santa Anita Handicap (Gr. 1) and $500,000 Beholder Mile (Gr. 1) at Santa Anita Park. This is a card that I will most likely be playing on Saturday.

Fair Grounds Race Course has nine races worth $309,000 in prize money this afternoon. Head below for our best Fair Grounds picks on February 28, 2022.
Taking Your Horse Race Betting to the Next Level
    Race 2
    (1) Strong Beauty
    +200 (2/1)
    (2) Snowball
    +250 (5/2)
    (3) Steph’sfullasugar
    +2000 (20/1)
    (4) Fame Feather
    +300 (3/1)
    (5) Galaxy Thirtysix
    +300 (3/1)
    (6) Condesa’s Handmaid
    +1000 (10/1)
    (7) Southern Liason
    +300 (3/1)

    Post Time: 1:35 p.m. CST
    Distance:5 ½ Furlongs
    Purse:$49,000

The second race at Fair Grounds covers 5 ½ furlongs for a $49,000 purse. Expect Snowball and Strong Beauty to be competitive on the turf in this one.

Snowball is 6 for 34 and is looking for better results after finishing 3rd, 4th, 5th, 3rd in her previous four outings. Following a drop in grade to $49,000, Snowball has to be considered.

In his most recent attempt, Snowball showed 3rd on February 5 in the $125,000 LA Bred Premier Distaff Stakes. That wasn’t bad at all after going 5th in the $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Ladies Sprint on December 1.

Strong Beauty is a recent stakes performer as well. She is 1st, 1st, 3rd in her last three runs. Strong Beauty struck in the $50,000 Louisiana Cup Fully and Mare Sprint on August 21.

She stalked and clear late for a 1 ¼ length win. Unable to follow up, Strong Beauty was competitive in the $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Ladies Sprint Stakes on December 11.

Despite the loss, the attempt was encouraging going into Monday. This looks like a good chance for the No. 1.

    (1) STRONG BEAUTY

    Race 6
    (1) Jesuit
    +1200 (12/1)
    (2) Practice Squad

    (3) Buddy Reaux
    +1200 (12/1)
    (4) Costello’s Kitten
    +1200 (12/1)
    (5) First Glimpse
    +350 (7/2)
    (6) Stockpiler
    +1200 (12/1)
    (7) Monarch Man
    +800 (81)
    (8) Stitched
    +1000 (10/1)
    (9) Cause to Cruise
    +200 (2/1)
    (10) Marquee Ride
    +1000 (10/1)

    Post Time: 3:35 p.m. CST
    Distance: 1 Mile
    Purse:$25,000

Race 6 has a $25,000 purse covering a mile on the turf. First Glimpse and Cause to Cruise should be involved in the stretch run.

First Glimpse is 11th, 6th, 5th, 1st, 4th, 3rd with a winning performance on December 20. This was a strong run from First Glimpse to beat Kissalot by 4 ¼ lengths for $15,000.

The colt most recently showed 3rd on February 6 in a $25,000 race. The terms were just too easy in that December 20 win. In any case, First Glimpse should be a competitive horse.

Cause to Cruise is 2 for 5 with finishes of 9th, 1st, 1st, 2nd, 2nd in his previous five outings. In his last win, Cause to Cruise made it back-to-back with a half-length win over Stonevicious for $31,000 on December 5.

In his last start, he placed 2nd behind Zippin Gigi by 2 lengths. It could have been more, but Cause to Cruise looks like the best in this field.
    The Bet
    (9) CAUSE TO CRUISE
    +200

    Race 9
    (1) Chapel Barn
    +400 (4/1)
    (2) Deano
    +800 (8/1)
    (3) Frolic More
    +1000 (10/1)
    (4) Club Soda
    +250 (5/2)
    (5) Lemon and Diem
    +800 (8/1)
    (6) Big Falcon Rocket
    +2000 (20/1)
    (7) Jack the Ripper
    +600 (6/1)
    (8) Murdo
    +500 (5/1)
    (9) Richiesgotswagger
    +600 (6/1)

    Post Time: 5:07 p.m. CST
    Distance:6 Furlongs
    Purse:$22,000

Race 9 is a $22,000 event covering 6 furlongs on the dirt. Look for Chapel Barn and Club Soda to do something worth noting in the final race at Fair Grounds.

Chapel Barn is 4 for 22 and should hold strong in this one. He is 1st, 3rd, 2nd in his last three and showing consistency.

Chapel Barn went in for a 4 ½ length win over The Gray Blur in a $17,000 assignment on December 20. That was a good look for Chapel Barn.

He then showed 3rd for $20,000 on January 15 and 2nd most recently by a nose in the same grade on February 6. Chapel Barn must be considered, but a rematch against Club Soda should prove to be tough.

Club Soda beat Chapel Barn in January. He had a 2 ¾ length win over Will Knows for $20,000. He’s been running well in good form, finishing top-3 in seven of his last eight with three wins.

Look at Club Soda to close out the day at Fair Grounds with a winning run.

    (4) CLUB SODA

        Today’s Horse Racing Tips – 28th February 2022
By: Racing and Sports Time published 2022-02-28 at 10:25 AM (GMT +11:00)

Major metropolitan meetings are today held at Port Macquarie, Hamilton and Thangool..

        PORT MACQUARIE: RACE 5 @ 3:40 PM

IMPRINTED (1) was a touch disappointing last time out but prior to that had strung together two wins on the bounce. Drawn to get across easily from gate four and gets 2kg weight relief with the claim. Looks very hard to toss. MCNAIR (2) ran last when resuming but wasn't too far away. Strips fitter and has won when second-up in the past. Looks a danger. BODGIE (3) tends to mix his form but can play a role in the finish if he finds his best. FORBIDDEN PALACE (7) has been just behind the placegetters of late and looks one for the multiples. FINNEY (5) best of the rest while fresh.
        SELECTIONS: Imprinted to win.

        HAMILTON: RACE 6 @ 4:00 PM

SAVVY SOVEREIGN (2) looks another strong hope for the Maher-Eustace barn. Won and then missed a lip at Geelong before spelling and then didn't have the best of it at Sandown first-up. Finally draws low and fitter can win this and go on. STYLISH ENUFF (4) is fast and third-up. Has been threatening at Warrnambool and the 3kg claimer will run the gelding along from the rail. Fitter and is the one to fear. SUNBURNT (8) has just missed the last two at this level. Looks the one to fill out the trifecta. A gap to the others.
SELECTIONS: Backing Savvy Sovereign to win.

        THANGOOL: RACE 7 @ 5:20 PM

DAUNTING PRINCESS (12) was only beaten 2L the latest in much stronger at Rockhampton. Loves the track and trip and should be taking this out. SHOOTFORTHESTAR (13) has switched barns off a plain run at Port Macquarie. She's better than that and draws to advantage with a 4kg claim. Tipping she will be very competitive. TOP MASTER (1) resumes and wasn't beaten far at Rockhampton before the spell as favourite. Has changed stables and expect Butler to manage the wide gate. Lightly-raced and looks well-placed. ALBERTESSA (10) runs along and won't be far away evidenced on the Maiden win two-back.
        SELECTIONS: Backing Daunting Princess.

        TOOWOOMBA: RACE 7 @ 8:38 PM

AMERICAN SAINT (1) worked home well to finish second last time out over 1800m at Sunshine Coast. Won two of her other three starts this time in including her lone visit to this track. Drawn to get the favours. Among the top chances. GOT THE LOT (3) was second on the turn and boxed on to finish runner up over 1850m at this track last time. Honest and should be right in the finish. CALM SEEKER (2) will enjoy the return to this track here he has two wins and two placings from four visits. GONZO (4) got the money last time so must be respected.
SELECTIONS: American Saint is racing well. Backing to win.

Today's Horse Racing Tips: Monday February 28th

          Today’s Racing Tips – February 28th

There are 3 meetings in the UK on Monday, with Carlisle and Plumpton providing some competitive action in the afternoon. The twilight card at Wolverhampton provides all-weather fans with some low grade fare, with the lights coming on at 5.00pm.
          Today’s Daily Nap

          Baddesley

          Plumpton 1:50 pm

Chris Gordon has a cracking team of young horses to go to war with this season, and this bumper winner showed plenty of promise in three runs in fairly useful company over hurdles so far. He returns freshened after three months off, and this test of speed round a sharp track should be ideal.

          Odds: 4.50
          Today’s Value Angle

          Lilith

          Plumpton 2:25 pm

Anthony Honeyball’s mare has failed to win in ten runs under Rules, but she has been running well in defeat over fences all season and has a great chance to make all the running here under the talented claimer Ben Godfrey.

          Odds: 5.00

Odds are best odds available as at 8pm February 27th 2022. Odds may now differ.

Al Cimaglia: Pompano Park Pick 4 Analysis-$15,000 Guaranteed Pool

                February 28, 2022 | By Al Cimaglia

The Monday night feature at Pompano Park will roll in Race 6, an Open Trot with a $14,200 purse. The 0.50 Pick 4 also starts in Race 6. The sequence has a $15,000 guaranteed pool, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

                Race 6

4-Flagman (5/2)-Comes off a big effort versus Open II company from post 9. Started way back but trotted the back half in 55.2 and now steps up. Plano has a post edge on tougher foes and should be aggressive in this spot.
6-Four Wheelin (4-1)-Has hit the board in 5 of 7 at the Pomp with 2 wins. Comes off the worst finish in a long time and has missed a start. Looking for a rebound as this was Hennessey's choice over #5 and has shown well at this class.

                Race 7

2-Crooked Creek (7/2)-Dropped back at the start from post 1 last week and rallied sharply to bag a nice win. Bumps up to face Open II company but fits and the Bambrick barn has won 21% of its starts over the past 30 days.
7-Soo Handsome (7/2)-Won in the Open class a couple of weeks ago and now faces Open II company. Could be leaving, and if Plano doesn't land on the point he should be in striking range at the top of the lane.

                Race 8

2-Odds On Osiris (5/2)-Dropped to this class in last and missed by a neck from post 9. Camera shy 5-year-old is only 3 for 28 going back to 2021 but should be in the hunt here.
4-Dakota Jack (5/1)-Claimed for $20k in last and goes to the Wayne Oke stable which hasn't had a start over the last 365 days. Eight-year-old does good work at the Pomp and Miller sticks. Will take a swing the barn debut will be a winning one.
7-Warrawee Veloce (7/2)-Has been close in the last 3 starts and is a threat with a live cover flow. Looking for a lively pace and a sharp steer.

                Race 9

2-Anchors Away (9/5)-Not feeling great about the short price morning line but this will be the 1st time with an inside post draw at this class. Will toss last from the 7-hole coming off a scratch and look for a big try tonight.
7-Blue Devil (3-1)-Has been competitive in all 3 starts for the new connections. Short field should help, and Jones might look to leave as there isn't much gate speed in this field. Has hit the board in all 3 starts at the Pomp with 1 win.

                  Fair Grounds - Race #5
                  Picks Notes
#6 Schnell Pressing player should get another great go of things today, and I love the way he stepped up to handle allowance company last time out. Something similar keeps him in the frame with a winning trip waiting.
#3 Creole Charlie He's capable of some really good things when he's able to find the front, but I do worry that he's going to have enough company to complicate things for him up top today.
#4 Release the Beast Finisher was second best behind an easy winner last out, and he will benefit if a few of these go at it in the early stages. Can't see being too excited by anything like the 5/2 ML price.
Race Summary Schnell should be able to get the right kind of first-over trip with these, and he can avoid getting caught up in any early battle while relaxing just a touch off it in the early going.

                  Fair Grounds - Race #8
                  Picks Notes
#8 Alebrije I think he's worth another look on the turf at a one-turn trip, and he might get a pretty decent setup in a race where most of the serious players want to be in the same pressing/prompting spot early on. Settles and picks them up late at a number?
#7 Prayforpeace His maiden win last out was pretty solid, and he might have a bit better ability to relax early on than some of the other tactical types in here. Looking for him with a sustained bid in the lane.
#6 Pure Panic He has some pretty solid turf sprint form that is muddied a bit in the running lines by tough tries with stakes groups. He'll turn back for this one with a claim on this with his best stuff.
Race Summary Alebrije is worth a small swing in here in hopes that the pace ends up on the solid side with a handful of pressing types jockeying for position into the turn.

                  Fair Grounds - Race #9
                  Picks Notes
#4 Club Soda He has dangerous pace and has been tough when facing some of these in recent starts. He's likely to go for it early and dare any other pace to keep up with him. The one to beat.
#6 Big Falcon Rocket Route pace cuts back for this while getting into an easier spot than he saw when finishing up the track last time out on the turf. Maybe a solid pace sets things up for him to get towed into the splits. Interesting price player.
#2 Deano Think he'll be in line for a good run from close range here, and he was not far off it at the wire when facing some of these last time out. Could easily see him landing this.
Race Summary Club Soda is probably tough in here, but Big Falcon Rocket and Deano both offer some interest at decent prices, so I'll try to get them in with the shorter priced top call.

                    Turf Paradise - Race #2
                    Picks Notes
#2 Mike Operator Just missed in his only Turf Paradise start and is three of six at the distance; Wong-trained charge doesn't require the lead and can save something for the finish.
#1 House Limit Stretches out from a sprint and should be able to get the lead and set a lively pace; tough on the front end.
#4 Market King Was caught late in a quick sprint last out and has won at the distance over the track.
Race Summary Mike Operator has enough speed to be close to sprinters stretching out and can engage when called upon.

                    Turf Paradise - Race #5
                    Picks Notes
#2 N.K. Rocket Man Crushed rivals on the front end last out, takes a step up in class and can be difficult to catch.
#1 Blue Azul Won on the turf two races back and can be an effective stalker.
#7 Shotgun Express Was a clear winner on turf two races back and is in a good spot for his first local attempt.
Race Summary N.K. Rocket Man came up with a strong effort last out and a similar run will give him a good chance at a repeat.

                    Turf Paradise - Race #7
                    Picks Notes
#6 Bibleman Extremely rapid and was a clear winner last out; will probably get clear early and will be difficult to collar.
#10 Rickey B Has a good chance to stay close and will be able to overcome the outside post.
#2 Hotfoot Has excellent speed and can could benefit from the ground-saving trip.
Race Summary Bibleman is quite enough to dictate the pace and will have enough left to repeat.

                      (5) First Glimpse
                      +350 (7/2)
                      (6) Stockpiler
                      +1200 (12/1)
                      (7) Monarch Man
                      +800 (81)
                      (8) Stitched
                      +1000 (10/1)
                      (9) Cause to Cruise
                      +200 (2/1)
                      (10) Marquee Ride
                      +1000 (10/1)

                      Post Time: 3:35 p.m. CST
                      Distance: 1 Mile
                      Purse:$25,000

Race 6 has a $25,000 purse covering a mile on the turf. First Glimpse and Cause to Cruise should be involved in the stretch run.

First Glimpse is 11th, 6th, 5th, 1st, 4th, 3rd with a winning performance on December 20. This was a strong run from First Glimpse to beat Kissalot by 4 ¼ lengths for $15,000.

The colt most recently showed 3rd on February 6 in a $25,000 race. The terms were just too easy in that December 20 win. In any case, First Glimpse should be a competitive horse.

Cause to Cruise is 2 for 5 with finishes of 9th, 1st, 1st, 2nd, 2nd in his previous five outings. In his last win, Cause to Cruise made it back-to-back with a half-length win over Stonevicious for $31,000 on December 5.

In his last start, he placed 2nd behind Zippin Gigi by 2 lengths. It could have been more, but Cause to Cruise looks like the best in this field.

                      The Bet
                      (4) CLUB SODA

Louisiana Downs Selections for February 28, 2022 – Horse Racing Picks

We open the week with four race tracks at BetOnline. Fair Grounds Race Course, Louisana Downs, Parx, and Turf Paradise are on the grid Monday afternoon. We saw a big upset on Saturday in the first 50-20-10-5 race on the Road to the Kentucky Derby.

                        Industry Leading 9% Cashback!

Not deterred by a strong field, Un Ojo won as a 75-1 underdog to win the top prize out of $1,000,000 and 50 points to the Kentucky Derby. Like Mighty Heart, Un Ojo has one eye, but that hasn’t prevented him from having success.

The Road to the Kentucky Derby will continue to heat up with 100-50-20-10 racing not that far out. As far as today is concerned, we’re going to Fair Grounds Race Course and Louisana Downs. Louisana Downs has quarter horse racing at this meet on Monday.

Louisiana Downs has seven racecourses available with a modest $47,000 in prize money available. For thoroughbred picks, check out our Fair Grounds Race Course page, then head below for our best Louisana Downs picks for February 28, 2022.

                        Distance:350 Yards
                        Purse:$11,000

Race 4 is an $11,000 event covering 350 yards on the dirt. Swamp Eagle and Apollitical High should be involved in the final moments of this 350-yard sprint.

Swamp Eagle should give a good go in this one for the top prize. He finished in the top-3 in nine of his previous ten outings, going 5th, 3rd, 2nd in his last three outings.

Swamp Eagle showed 3rd on November 13 in the $40,000 Opelousas Stakes (Gr. 3). That was a strong performance, followed up placing 2nd on February 8 in a $15,000 race.

He was timed at 20.103 seconds in that one at 400 yards behind Dashing Jess. Apollitical High will give him a big fight.

Apollitical High is 6 for 16 in his career and is 1st, 5th, 2nd in his previous three entries. He was a winner on November 27, with a 1 ¼ length win over Jessalilbit with a strong time of 19.857 seconds at 400 yards.

In his most recent, he placed 2nd behind One Fast Perry by a neck with a time of 16.705 seconds at 330 yards. 20 more yards to 350 should help his talents.

Race 6 is a $7,300 event covering 330 yards on the dirt. Look at Temptastic and Annas T Time to put on a good showing.

Temptastic is 2nd, 4th, 1st, 6th, 4th, 8th in six career races. She had a win on July 19 for an $11,500 purse, and then dropped out of contention hard.

In her most recent race, Temptastic finished 8th on December 3 for a $5,000 purse. That was tough. Much more is needed on Monday.

Annas T Time is 8 for 29 in her career, finishing 2nd, 5th, 2nd in the mare’s last three assignments. She is coming off a solid go, placing 2nd behind Jessbye Train by 2 ¼ lengths for $8,500.

Clocked at 17.234 seconds, that may be good enough for Annas T Time on Monday. Temptastic recorded a time of 20.688 seconds at 400 yards on December 3. That wouldn’t be enough here

I’m backing Annas T Time to go back to the backside with a win at Louisana Downs.

                        Purse:$3,800

Race 7 covers 220 yards for a $3,800 purse. Expect Cantkeepagoodgirl and Ima Streakin Okey to do well in this one.

Cantkeepagoodgirl is a one-time winner in eight assignments. She is 2nd, 6th, 3rd, 1st in her previous four attempts.

Coming off a $3,800 win with a time of 12.536 seconds on January 31, look for Cantkeepagoodgirl to have a big chance. Before the win, Cantkeepagoodgirl showed 3rd on December 21 for $8,000.

Ima Streakin Okey should be a foe that can get to the wire first. He is 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 1st, 2nd in his previous five starts.

Ima Streakin Okey struck with a 1 ½ length $5,000 win on December 21. That was an impressive race with a time of 12.091 seconds recorded at 220 yards.

Following that one, Ima Streakin Okey placed 2nd behind Roc N Bold by a nose with a time of 13.967 seconds at 250 yards.

Despite the loss, he could be good for a bounce-back on Monday.

                          # 1 HM ESTRELLA 20/1
                          # 3 CANTKEEPAGOODGIRLDWN 5/2
IMA STREAKIN OKEY is the best wager in this race. Should expect this equine to be right there at the wire versus these mounts. Always seems to be close up at the finishing post. Ran a sharp last race. HM ESTRELLA - Will more than likely be one of the early speedsters of the pack going into the midpoint of the contest. CANTKEEPAGOODGIRLDWN - Has to be given a shot versus this group of horses displaying respectable figures as of late and an average speed figure of 61 under similar conditions. Is a key contender - given the 59 Equibase Speed Figure from her most recent race.

                            Fair Grounds - Race #9 - Post: 5:07pm - Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $22,000 Class Rating: 89

                            Rating:

                            #9 RICHIESGOTSWAGGER (ML=6/1)
#7 JACK THE RIPPER (FR) (ML=6/1)
                            #1 CHAPEL BARN (ML=4/1)

RICHIESGOTSWAGGER - Diodoro drops him down to this class. You don't need too much more data to believe this thoroughbred has a darn good chance at this level. JACK THE RIPPER (FR) - Looking like a possible overlay today at M/L odds of 6/1. Finished fourth in last race at Fair Grounds but was close at the end. This horse is rounding his way back into shape. Should run well today. Ducoing has a knack for picking up horses that can be improved. Fantastic win rate with horses off a claim, and they just picked this one up out of his last race. This racer is a hot commodity. Claimed in his last two races. CHAPEL BARN - This pony coming off a strong performance in the last thirty days is a strong challenger in my book. Gelding is a few starts into a return here. Should give a top effort today. This horse is in great demand coming off two claims in his last two starts. Don't overlook this gelding in your gambling today.

                            Vulnerable Contenders: #4 CLUB SODA (ML=5/2), #8 MURDO (ML=5/1), #2 DEANO (ML=8/1),

CLUB SODA - I don't normally play a favorite that hasn't been to the track in the last few weeks. MURDO - Should be difficult for this racer to beat this field off of that last speed figure. Improbable to improve enough to run a figure anywhere near today's class rating, so put him on the likely underlays list. DEANO - This gelding earned a rating in his last event which likely isn't good enough in today's event.
