Al Cimaglia: Cal Expo Pick 4 Analysis-$25,000 Guaranteed Pool

The feature at Cal Expo rolls in Race 4 when 4-year-old colts and geldings battle for a share of a $20,000 purse in California Sires Stakes action. The 0.20 Pick 4 starts in Race 8. The sequence has a $25,000 purse with a 16% takeout, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 8

6-Sierra Mystique (5-1)-Will look for some value in the opening leg which isn't very formful. This mare has won 6 of 18 at CalX and 2 of the last 3 starts. The Watson barn has won 2 of 4 races in the last 30 days and this 5-year-old is worth a long look at the morning line price.
7-Helen's Girl (6-1)-Had a dull February but has rounded back into form in the last 3 starts and could be overlooked at the windows. Lackey needs to work a smooth trip and this race could have some honest fractions which should also help.

Race 9

1-Allmyx'sliventexas (5/2)-Form has been spotty versus this kind but this is a good post draw to take control. Likes to get the top, make others chase when going well, and that script could play out here.
3-Its Pointless (8/5)-Short field helps and is a check-casher at this level but not crazy about the short price. Likes to grind up off cover and that could work but not if #1 has its way on the front end.

Race 10

2-Outlawnothnbutsmrt (12-1)-Looking for a price and this 4-year-old has hit the board in 9 of 12 starts with 4 wins at CalX. Goulet could work a close-up trip and use one move down the lane to roll by.
5-Trey Rockette (5/2)-Gets a +++ driver change in Plano taking the lines. Stayed inside, was shuffled to last into a dull pace and came on belatedly with a nice rally down the lane. Looking for a different trip and a more aggressive steer.

Race 11

3-Marced Magic (3-1)-Hasn't had the best of trips but Plano returns, and that change could be significant. Beat this kind on 1-23 with the same pilot between the pipes. The same result happened on 2-27 and #6 finished 3rd that night. Looks like a solid player here.
6-Dislocator (2-1)-Should be bet down off a troubled trip down the lane in last. Stayed inside, caught a shuffle to last and then was blocked near the wire. Figures to be in the mix versus this kind but is only 1-16 at CalX. Shouldn't offer any value but is difficult to leave off the ticket.

Specifically designed for the rolling exotic player, Jeff Siegel’s Daily Santa Anita Handicapping Analysis, Wagering Strategies, Workout Commentary, and True Odds Calculations (“TOC”) identify those horses that should be included in daily doubles, pick-3s, pick-4s, pick-5s, and the pick-6.

The “TOC” quantifies the findings of a personal thoroughbred analytics program that contains in its database the results of every race contested at Santa Anita since 2004. More than 75 critical factors in the fields of class, distance, surface, age, and sex have created 227 algorithms that are highly specific to the race being handicapped. The result is a probability line that reflects each contender’s true odds based on a pure 100-point takeout.

The “TOC” applies its mathematical formula only to non-maiden races and displays a maximum of four runners considered the most likely contenders to win. Also listed is the specific algorithm’s sample size plus the top-rated horse’s win percentage and return on investment (ROI). It is suggested that the player utilize the program’s findings to compare each contender’s “true odds” with the morning line and/or actual wagering odds to identify potential overlays and underlays.

Also-eligible runners are not included in any of the calculations until verified as actual starters. When possible, adjustments to the “TOC” will be updated after late scratches.

RACE 1: Post: 1:00 PT Grade: C
Use (in order of preference): 3-Oubabe; 8-Minister Shane; 9-All Four Winds; 5-Johnny Paycheck

Forecast: Speed tends to stick extremely well in these five furlong turf sprints but trying to predict the pace in this state-bred maiden affair for older horses is a challenging task. Several of the main players exit the slowly-run affair won by Rocky Gibraltar last month, including Oubabe, who missed by a head in that race after enjoying a good stalking trip. He’ll get plenty play and is a “must use” in rolling exotic play, but after just failing at 6/5 he may not be one to trust. This distance might be a tad sharp for Minister Shane but he has run well over the course in the past and his recent drills indicate he’s plenty fit for his first outing since last June. All Four Winds and Johnny Paycheck are first-timers from capable outfits that have been training off the grid at Los Alamitos and San Luis Rey Downs, respectably, and neither would have to be world beaters to act with this group. Both have earned workout times that indicate ability. In a race that certainly qualifies as a grass grab bag, rolling exotic players should include as many as their budget allows.

Oubabe (March 11, Santa Anita, 5f, 1:00.2h TT). Grade: B
Was breezing to the top in :23.4 and :35.4, then was asked and ridden through the lane to be doing his best late, up in 1:00.1 on our watches, solid solo training track drill for J. Sadler. Missed by a head in maiden turf dash last month and probably has a bit of improvement in him.

Minister Shane (March 11, Santa Anita, 4f, :47.1hg). Grade: B
Never really asked much while stride-for-stride inside Coalinga Road (same time) in gate drill for C. Gaines, splits of :24.1, :35.3 and :47.2, solid drill while getting fit for first start since last June. Appears to be coming back in good shape, would like to see him tried over a distance of ground this time around.

RACE 2: Post: 1:32 PT Grade: B
Use (in order of preference): 5-Ikigai; 6-First Class Dude

Forecast: Maidens entered to be claimed for $150,000 compete in the second race over the abbreviated sprint distance of five and one-half furlongs. Truth be told, this race could be $75,000 seller just as easily and nobody would blink an eye. The logical top pick and 9/5 morning line favorite Ikigai was a beaten favorite last year May in a two-year-old dash won by a decent sort, Bochombo, and makes his first start since for new trainer R. Alvarado after turning in a series of solid drills at San Luis Rey Downs that should have him fit and ready. The stable’s preferred rider, J. Hernandez, takes the call, so in a six-runner affair that came up rather soft let’s put the homebred son of Bayern on top. First Class Dude is another dangerous comebacker – he’s been off for more than a year – and projects to be strong pace factor from his cozy outside draw. Runner-up to Medina Spirit as a two-year-old in a sprint at Los Alamitos, he has faced considerably tougher foes in his four race career, so if he returns as well as he left the J. Bonde-trained son of Dialed In should at the very least outrun his morning line of 6-1. Both should be included in rolling exotic play.

Notable Workouts:

Indulge (March 2, Santa Anita, 6f, 1:15.4h). Grade: C+
Inside Samurai Kura (5f, 1:02h) and was slightly best at the wire before continuing out to seven furlong pole, splits of :24.3, :36.2 and 1:02 flat to the wire and then out in 1:15.3 on our watches, pressure to the end. Just a fair work under the circumstances for R. Mandella, been away almost a year after finishing second in a maiden sprint at Indiana Downs as a 2-yeare-old.

RACE 3: Post: 2:06 PT Grade: C
Use (in order of preference): 2-Tmorrowisalongtime; 1-The Ginger Queen

Forecast: The two main contenders are drawn inside in this five-runner maiden claiming turf miler for fillies and mares, and both are trained by R. Baltas. Tmorrowisalongtime shows up in a seller for the first time after finishing a non-threatening third to the future stakes performer Excelerina last month, and against this modest group the daughter of Frosted seems to have found a proper spot to earn her diploma. She’s a fit on speed figures, sports a strong, healthy series of works since raced, and should have enough tactical speed to be comfortably in the fray in a race that projects to be slowly run early. However, at 6/5 on the morning line, she offers little wagering value. The Ginger Queen finished second over this course and distance in a similar maiden claimer a month ago and not much more will be needed today. Though lacking in tactical speed, she is assured a ground-saving trip and figures to grind away from the quarter pole home and have every chance. In a race that we have no plans to play, both should be included in the various rolling exotics.

RACE 4: Post: 2:36 PT Grade: C+
Use (in order of preference: 3-Star Sailor; 6-Allaboutthemoney

Forecast: We’ll double the fourth race, a restricted (nw-2) $25,000 middle distance main track claimer that drew six entrants. Star Sailor (TOC=5/2; ML=5/2) was far below form in a tougher starter’s allowance event 15 days ago but against this group the D. O’Neill-trained colt should be able to bounce back. He’s a one-paced grinder in a field with no speed, so we’re hoping the son of Union Rags can secure a pace-stalking position and then have his chance to seal the deal from the quarter pole to the wire. Strictly on speed figures, he’s the one to beat. Allaboutthemoney (TOC=7/5; ML-9/5) makes his second start following a six month layoff and has a right to produce a forward move after encountering self-caused trouble when second as the favorite in an extended sprint at this level two weeks ago. He’s not fast on numbers but gets a break in the weights with the switch to bug boy D. Herrera and goes for the high-percentage V. Cerin barn, so you have to use him somewhere.

RACE 5: Post: 3:08 PT Grade: B
Use (in order of preference): 4-Highly Distorted; 7-Augusta Melody; 5-Johnny Podres

Forecast: Here’s a competitive starter allowance turf sprint with a few possibilities. Highly Distorted (TOC=2-1; ML=4-1) was a bit rusty in his comeback when facing a considerably stronger $40,000 open claiming field over five furlongs earlier this month and didn’t do badly when sixth, beaten four lengths by next-out winner Barristan The Bold. With a forward move in a field that presents a softer pace scenario, the M. Puype-trained gelding should be on or near the lead throughout over a course that he’s been known to like. “Win rider” J. Hernandez stays aboard. Augusta Melody (TOC=3-1; ML=3-1) and Johnny Podres (TOC=5/2; ML=5-1), two-three in a similar event in late February, both should produce a similar type of performance today and with just slight improvement either one could win. We’ll prefer Highly Distorted on top but include all three in our rolling exotics.

RACE 6: Post: 3:38 PT Grade: B+
Use (in order of preference): 1-Set Sail; 5-Mauritius

Forecast: Set Sail had trained like a very good prospect leading up to his sprint debut last month but was disappointing when finishing a distant third (beaten six lengths) while still managing to earn a strong speed figure. He’s returned to work even better since that outing (see below), so we suspect he will step forward in a big way while stretching out to a mile from a favorable inside draw. Simply stated, we’re expecting a gate-to-wire performance. Mauritious also displayed promise when a distant second to stable mate (and future stakes star) Taiba in his debut earlier this month. The son of Twirling Candy should be prominent throughout, perhaps stalking our top pick every step of the way. These are the two we’ll be using in rolling exotic play with the main push reserved for Set Sail.

Notable Workouts:

Set Sail (March 12, Santa Anita, 4f, :47.1h). Grade: A-
Looked terrific in team drill with Devil Moon (same time) and was a bit the best while breezing every step of the way, earning splits from the three furlong pole to the wire in :11.2 and :35 flat before coasting out to the seven furlong pole in :48 flat. Have to think he’s better than his debut race shows and surely seems capable of stepping forward in a big way next time out.

Bletchley Park (March 21, Santa Anita, 5f, :59.3h). Grade: B
Light coaxing through the lane inside McLaren Vale (same time) to be a tad the best while coming the final half mile in :22.4 and :48 flat. Went off a bit to quickly and slowed up late but move was solid, nonetheless. Finished second as the heavy favorite in a low-rated, modest maiden sprint, probably can improve but we’re not quite just sold yet.

Mauritius (March 20, Santa Anita, 4f, :48.1h). Grade: B
Very light coaxing through the lane in solo half mile drill for B. Baffert, splits of :23 flat and :48 flat on our watches, appearing to have something left though slowing up a bit through the lane. Ran well in debut in a highly-rated race and should improve with that experience behind him.

RACE 7: Post: 4:08 PT Grade: C+
Use (in order of preference): 9-Press On; 2-Orth

Forecast: This is a split of the first race, a maiden special weight turf sprint for California-bred older horses. The first-timer Press On has done all of his work at Los Alamitos, so we have no video to lean on, but as a son of Nyquist he should be more than fit following a steady series of drills that includes a recent five furlong gate workout of :59 3/5. Maybe he can run some. Orth displayed good early speed and then managed to hang on and finish third in a similar spot last time out over six furlongs. It was slowly run affair that produced a soft speed figure, but today’s five furlong trip should be more to his liking, so among those with prior form the E. Kruljac-trained gelding looks the most attractive. We’ll try to survive and advance using just these two, but not with any degree of confidence, so if you’d prefer to spread deeper, go right ahead.

Notable Workouts:

Candybox (March 18, Santa Anita, 5f, 1:02.2h TT). Grade: C+
Broke off a couple of lengths behind True Patriot (5f, 1:02.3h TT) and stalked that one to the top of the lane, then was asked and didn’t make up much ground (workmate asked hard), finishing a length back at the wire with splits of :37.1 and 1:02.2 on our watches. Cal-bred son of Danzing Candy has bit of run but isn’t anything special at this stage.

RACE 8: Post: 4:42 PT Grade: C+
Use (in order of preference): 4-Tracy Di Vicenzo; 8-Pequena Tormenta; 7-Never Sway

Forecast: Nothing would surprise us in this maiden $40,000 claiming sprint for older fillies and mares. Use as many as your budget allows in rolling exotic play. Tracy Di Vicenzo didn’t run badly in her debut, overcoming an awkward break to rally wide and finish with interest when a distant second to next-out winner Marie. With an extra half-furlong to work with today (and, hopefully, with a cleaner start), the daughter of Stay Thirsty should produce enough of a forward move to handle this soft assignment. Pequena Tormenta is another second-timer that is worth consideration in a weak affair. The R. Baltas-trained filly had a non-productive run last summer on turf vs. infinitely strongly straight maiden fillies and returns with a work tab that should have her fit enough for a winning try if good enough. We suspect that from a comfortable outside draw under bug boy D. Herrera, she’ll display more early speed than she did in her debut, so at 3-1 on the morning line she’s a major player. Never Sway isn’t fast on number at least they’re moving in the right direction. Second in her last pair against $30,000 maiden claiming foes, the daughter of Clubhouse Ride should be grinding away and with some help up front could make some noise in the late stages.

Poquena Tormenta (March 2, Santa Anita, 5f, 1:01.4h). Grade: C+
Broke off a length in front inside Candy For Caramel (5f, 1:01.3h) was slightly best at the wire under some urging, final half mile in :23.2 and :49.3, moderate in the final stages. Had a run last summer in maiden special weight company on turf and was no factor, may be competitive in a maiden claimer this time around.

RACE 9: Post: 5:12 PT Grade: C+
Use (in order of preference): 3-Jibber Jabber; 4-Hermaphrodite; 5-Kuora; 9-Glesga Gal

Forecast: The finale is a wide-open grass affair for first-level allowance fillies and mares over a mile. Jibber Jabber (TOC=8-1; ML-5-1) has form from 2021 that is good enough to win, and while the work tab doesn’t jump off the page it should have her fit enough to fire a big shot fresh. A maiden win over this course and distance last year makes her a fit, and with regular rider U. Rispoli staying aboard, the P. Gallagher-trained filly looks like a legitimate contender at 5-1 on the morning line. Hermaphrodite (TOC=6-1; ML=4-1) is another returning off a long layoff, hers for more than a year after she was beaten a nose in the Astra S.-G3 over 12 furlongs in January of 2021. This mile trip might be too sharp for her, but her Los Alamitos work tab looks good, the barn’s main rider J. Hernandez takes the call, and the J. Sadler barn sports superior stats (29% with a massive ROI) with layoff runners. Kuora (TOC=6-1; ML=6-1) was just claimed for $50,000 by V. Cerin (20% with a strong flat-bet profit with this angle), so improvement can be expected. She has plenty of back numbers that are better than par for this level, so at 6-1 on the morning line she’s worth including somewhere. Glesga Gal (TOC=2-1; ML=6-1) had no excuse when a close fourth in a similar turf miler last month but today’s pace projection looks considerably softer, so if she can shake loose on the early lead she could take this field a long way.

Picks Notes
#7 Black Sword He might get the right kind of trip in a race with a few pretty serious forward types, and he's probably overlooked with just one modest try to his credit on the turf so far in his career. Settle and finish trip?
#6 High Limit Room He might be the best of the pace, but he is also unlikely to get much of a breather with this group. Have to respect the seriousness of his one gear, but he's certainly vulnerable if he gets in a battle late.
#3 Hooperdrivestheboat Liked him a bit last time out, and he's still no sure thing on the turf, but there are a couple running lines where he has tracked the splits and stayed on, and I'm hoping he gets that kind of spying run today with a couple quicker players signed on.
Race Summary Black Sword can be tough with these if he's able to handle the turf a bit better than he did in August, as he gets what might be a pretty great race shape to settle a bit off the pace and finish.

Fair Grounds - Race #6
Picks Notes
#12 And Fifty He made a mild move into the splits before fading when trying the turf last time out, and he might appreciate getting back on the main track. He ran evenly in the debut on this surface, but he might get a decent tracking trip from this high draw.
#2 Trader Price He's an obvious player after a couple useful runner-up finishes to open his career and he figures for a cozy trip inside with just a bit of spying pace. Probably the one to beat.
#6 Deal With Him He has only shown a bit of late interest so far, but he might be able to pass some of these late to impact the deeper exotics. Won't be on top on any of my tickets.
Race Summary And Fifty has some upside while getting back on the main track, and I'm expecting a better effort here now that he has a couple races under his belt.

Fair Grounds - Race #13
Picks Notes
#12 Crimson Feline She has the kind of rating pace that might mean she doesn't have to hustle too hard to find adequate position from this post, and she might get the right kind of trip to move into the splits on the far turn.
#6 G's Deadline She seems like the logical one to beat after a string of underneath finishes with better here this season, but this is no slam dunk as she meets one who beat her last time out.
#1 Storied Trip Tactical speed tends to give away ground late, but she should be in a good spot into the far turn, and she's a pretty decent fit with this bunch after facing some better groups in recent starts.
Race Summary Another fun season in the books at my old stomping grounds, and Crimson Feline might close out the show at a fair price. She should be in a great spot turning for home.

The first 100-50-20-10 prep race on the Road to the Kentucky Derby is in the books. The $1,000,000 Louisiana Derby (Gr. 2) was at Fair Grounds Race Course on Saturday afternoon. It was a good day for Epicenter, as he romped to a new track record and drew off for 100 points.

Steve Asmussen has a good one in Epicenter that could very well be the winner at Churchill Downs on the first Saturday in May. With Bob Baffert suspended from Churchill Downs, the door is open for another trainer to garner the attention.

The next 100-50-20-10 Kentucky Derby race is at Gulfstream Park on April 2 with the running of the $1,000,000 (Gr. 1) Florida Derby. There are 12 racecourses with action at BetOnline on Sunday.

There are plenty of stakes racing at Sunland Park and Tampa Bay Downs. Sunland has the feature with the $500,000 Sunland Park Derby (Gr. 3) this afternoon.

Race 2 is a $21,000 event covering a mile on the dirt. Look for Just Praise and Ankara to be dangerous in this spot.

Just Praise is winless in three races, finishing 9th, 3rd, 6th in his career. Two races back, Just Praise showed 3rd for a $23,000 event.

That’s the best effort of his career so far. He failed to improve on that attempt, settling for 6th in his next and most recent outing in a $21,000 event.

Ankara made his debut on February 5 for Todd Pletcher. It didn’t go well to finish 11th for $60,000. He was bumped at the start and never recovered.

Despite the mishap as a rookie, Ankara is down greatly in class and distance. This should be a good bounce-back for him.

Today’s the final day of the winter meet, although it’s really just a checkpoint, considering the spring meet starts up on Friday. #4 Antipoision (3/1) takes a big drop in class from the starter optional claiming level and cuts back around one turn, both of which should help this speedster. #8 Musty Red (8/1) fought hard on the lead and broke his maiden gate-to-wire last fall at Belterra Park. He’s also cutting back in distance and will also be a pace factor. #3 Tiz Golden (3/1) looks for improvement second off a long layoff and consistently ran brisnet figures in the mid-60s last year at Delaware Park, which would be good enough to win this race.

RACE 2: CLAIMING $10,000 (N/W3L), 4-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, 1 1/16 MILES

5-4-1-2

#5 One Two Kid (5/2) races for the ever-dangerous Jamie Ness/Jaime Rodriguez combo and races second off a brief break. He chased the pace last out at Parx and faded late, but held on for third with a very respectable figure of 74. #4 Albertano (4/1) had a terrible trip in his first start at this level and has lots of room to improve here. He had won his prior two starts in dominating fashion. #1 Dr. Ferber (9/5) has just missed in his last two starts and will try to improve off his last race, where he made what looks like a winning move but couldn’t sustain it.

Trainer Claudio Gonzalez won twice Saturday at Laurel Park to secure the track’s winter meet training title with one day left.

RACE 3: STARTER ALLOWANCE $5,000, 4-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, 1 1/16 MILES

7-4-1-5

#7 Titan’s Will (8/5) has won at this condition twice in a row, with figures in the mid/upper 80s each time. He has lots of early speed, but a tough post. That shouldn’t be too much of an impediment; last out he raced wide throughout and still drew off. #4 Lost My Vowcher (5/2) has finished third and second behind Titan’s Will and may not have the early speed to catch him if that rival sneaks loose. Might be best used at the bottom of exactas and trifectas. #1 Union Leader (6/1) was wide throughout in his local debut after shipping from NoCal, where he consistently ran in the mid-80s. Those marks would be good enough to win this race.

RACE 4: CLAIMING $12,500, 4-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, FILLIES AND MARES, 7 FURLONGS

1-3-4-2

#1 Devilish Affair (3/1) won at this condition two starts back, but was flat despite sitting the trip. We’ll see if dropping back against these helps. #3 Maureenlovesfrank (5/1) goes first off the claim for Ferris Allen, after a string of races with good figures but a lack of a closing punch. A decent horse to use in exacta at possibly a good number. #4 Grace Isabella (6/1) goes third off the layoff and should be heard from late. She’s run great figures in her last two starts, although her start two back was more visually impressive.

RACE 5: CLAIMING $40,000, 3-YEAR-OLDS, FILLIES, 5 1/2 FURLONGS

#5 Joe Mike Jim (7/2) has run in the 70s in two of her last three races and moved up nicely to contention last out after being sluggish early. #7 Sweet Talia (5/1) closed well for second at the $25,000 level last out, running a career-best race of 74 in the process. Look for her to roll late. #4 Bistrita (5/1) ships down from Aqueduct, where she raced wide last out and had no chance. She broke her maiden impressively two starts back, albeit while riding the rail on a track that was playing to horses racing on the inside.

RACE 6: STARTER OPTIONAL CLAIMING $25,000, 4-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, 5 1/2 FURLONGS

#6 Royal Thunder (8/5) set the pace and got caught late in his first two starts at this level this year. He couldn’t get to the lead and chased the pace last out, but shouldn’t have a problem getting to the lead this time. #4 Crownedcountcristo (3/1) won at this level two starts back and finished third behind Royal Thunder last out. He’s been uber-consistent lately, having run either an 84 or an 85 in each of his last three starts. #2 Rahmer (8/1) has been getting better with each start and should get a great trip sitting just off the leaders.

RACE 7: ALLOWANCE (N/W1X), 4-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, 5 1/2 FURLONGS

#1 Nashvegas (3/1) split horses late and just missed against similar last out, running a career-best figure of 93 in the process. He stalked and impressively beat an open claiming field two back. Should get another great trip. #2 John the Bear (5/2) has won two of his last three starts, beating Royal Thunder, who’s racing earlier in the card, most recently. He’s going to be a factor on the early pace. #6 Magic Mule (9/2) bounced back nicely from a dull effort two back in his most recent start, setting the pace and getting caught late by Nashvegas and another rival. He can show speed or rate.

RACE 8: ALLOWANCE OPTIONAL CLAIMING (N/W1X), 3-YEAR-OLDS, 7 FURLONGS

6-5-2-1

Many of these, including my top two picks, are coming off maiden wins. #6 Goldenize (7/2) showed speed for the first time last out and went gate-to-wire with an impressive figure of 85. He was third in the very tough February 12 maiden race. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of tactics are employed here. #5 Mocephus (7/2) has improved in each of his last two starts and has good tactical speed, but doesn’t have as good of late pace figures as Goldenize. #2 Steinbeck (5/2) has also been improving in his last few starts and closed well for second against these last out.

RACE 9: MAIDEN CLAIMING $10,000, 3-YEAR-OLDS, 1 1/16 MILES

5-2-1-6

#5 Shanghai Candy (5/2) made a decent move in his first start against these, but flattened out in the stretch. He still matched his lifetime-top figure, with a 62. #2 Biscotto d’Oro (3/1) ran in the 70s twice earlier in the year and looks for a rebound off a dull effort last out. #1 Phra Phrom (8/1) ran a huge race on the lead two starts back, but flattened out last out. We’ll see which version of him shows up here.

I think SAQEEL is a very good choice. He has a good opportunity for this race as handler, Asmussen, has very solid win clip with horses going this distance. Could best this group based on the speed fig - 87 - of his last effort. He has respectable class ratings, averaging 89, and has to be given consideration for this event. GOOD LUCK CHARM - Looks very strong versus this field and will probably be one of the leaders. This colt ought to be given a chance just off the earnings per start in dirt route races alone. BEACHWALKER - His 80 average has this gelding with among the most respectable speed figures here. Must be given consideration given the class of races run as of late.

3^rd race [NY, Md Sp Wt, 1 mi] – (4) Thrill of It came back from a three-month layoff to run the best race of his career with a second-place finish and his best speed figure. He could easily move forward from that effort and get that first victory. (6) Colloquy was third in his career debut at Aqueduct last month for Christophe Clement at odds of 3-1 after racing six wide. (7) Front Porch had an adventurous trip in his first start going nine furlongs for George Weaver when he rallied from 10 lengths behind to finish fourth beaten by less than two lengths. (1) Kaz Sugar Bank made his first start against open company at Penn National and finished second. We have seen this pattern many times before for this owner/trainer/breeder combination.
6^th race [Clm 25000, 1 mi] – (6) Handy won both of his races at Aqueduct and they came this winter in a $35,000 claimer and a starter allowance. Current trainer Wayne Potts is red hot again and won the starter allowance after the claim. (7) Easy Shot won first off the claim for $32,000 for Gustavo Rodriguez and drops down looking to win again. (3) Glory Road returned from a three-month layoff and was a winner and was claimed from Tom Morley for $20,000. (5) It’s All Relevant had two races back from a long layoff where he stepped up in class significantly and improved speed figures a bit.
