We are getting the Houston Astros at a discount today after losing four of their last five games coming into this series with the Texas Rangers. Meanwhile, the Rangers have won three of their last four to 'improve' to 5-10 on the season.
The Astros have too big of an advantage on the mound to only be -130 favorites tonight. Framber Valdez went 11-6 with a 3.14 ERA in 22 starts last season. He has been dominant in two road starts this season, going 1-0 with a 0.93 ERA while allowing just one earned run in 9 2/3 innings.
Valdez owns the Rangers, going 3-0 with a 1.40 ERA in his last three starts against them while allowing just 3 earned runs in 19 1/3 innings with 22 K's. He'll be opposed by Dane Dunning, who is 0-1 with a 5.68 ERA and 1.894 WHIP in three starts this season. Dunning allowed 4 earned runs and 10 base runners in 4 innings in his lone career start against the Astros last season.

Both of these teams are simply playing out the string at the end of a disappointing campaign. I believe the Blackhawks are better-positioned to pick up the win on Monday. Philadelphia is coming off a 4-1 win over rival Pittsburgh yesterday. That marked the Flyers second consecutive victory. I don't need to tell you that winning streaks have been few and far between for Philadelphia. The Blackhawks are back home following a 1-2 western road trip. This is likely their best opportunity to notch a win over their final three games of the season. Here, we'll note that Philadelphia is 0-7 when coming off a win over a division opponent this season, outscored by 2.4 goals on average. The Flyers are also a woeful 1-11 when coming off a game in which they allowed one goal or less this season, outscored by an average margin of 2.0 goals in that situation. Take Chicago.
