Tuesday MLB Free play. My selection is on Atlanta over Chicago at 7:20 pm et on Tuesday.
We missed with the Braves on Sunday as their ninth inning rally fell just short in a 5-4 loss at home against the Marlins. Off that losing series I look for them to bounce back as they open a three-game set against the similarly-struggling Cubs on Tuesday. Marcus Stroman will take the ball for Chicago. He's been awful in the early going this season. Chicago has lost each of his first three starts with Stroman getting tagged for 14 hits and 12 earned runs in just 8 1/3 innings over his last two outings. Braves starter Max Fried has seemingly been getting stronger with each passing start, most recently allowing only two hits and no walks over seven shutout innings in an impressive win over the Dodgers last week. The Braves are a perfect 3-0 in Fried's three career starts against Chicago. While the Cubs bullpen does appear to own a considerably advantage over the Braves relief corps at this stage of the season, I'm willing to bet on the talent in the Atlanta 'pen turning things around sooner rather than later. The deeper we get into these series the more meaningful the games and the more familiar the teams are with one another. It's why historically the scoring tends to decline in series the longer it goes. It's not quite Game 7, but there's quite a build up in a Game 5 with a series tied at 2-2. I just don't see them getting into the 230s. Bet the UNDER 233!

The Minnesota Twins have won four straight, and they host the Tigers in Game 1 of a home series Tuesday. The Tigers have lost five of their last seven, and they are 2-7 in their last nine games as an underdog.
Chriss Paddack will toe the slab for the Twins, and he's still looking for his first victory since coming over from San Diego. Eduardo Rodriguez will get the nod for Detroit, and he's struggled versus the Twins. Minnesota's lineup is batting a combined .304 over 91 at bats versus Rodriguez.
The Tigers are 7-20 in the last 27 meetings in Minnesota.

Tuesday's MLB Free Pick: New York Mets -110
Hard to not like the Mets at basically a pick'em at St Louis today. New York won the series opener on Monday 5-2 in thrilling fashion. Mets were down 0-2 with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th in that game. A rally that was aided by an error by Nolan Arenado.
New York is now 10-3 over their last 13 games and have scored 5 or more runs in 4 of their last 5. This team is playing with a ton of confidence. Cardinals are a good team, but that's now 3 runs they have scored in their last two games.
I like the Mets' Chris Bassitt to keep that St Louis lineup in check. Bassitt did give up 5 runs in his last start, but had allowed just 1 in his previous two outings. He's got 20 Ks and just 4 BBs in 18 innings of work.
Jordan Hicks will go for the Cardinals. He's just not stretched out enough to given them more than a few innings. He only threw 46 pitches before being pulled after 3 innings in his first start last week. Really asking a lot of the St Louis bullpen in his one. Give me the Mets -110!

Texas is getting no respect, yet they just beat Houston 6-2 in the series opener Monday and are now 4-1 in their last 5 overall. Astros getting way too much respect, especially with how bad starter Jake Odorizzi has been. Odorizzi has a 9.00 ERA and 2.556 WHIP in 3 starts, giving up 9 runs on 16 hits with just 5 Ks in 12 innings. Play the Rangers +110!

The Astros remain the team everyone 'loves to hate.' Houston won the AL West last season with a 95-67 record, capturing the division for the FOURTH time in the last five years. Houston won the 2017 World Series (over the Dodgers), lost the 2019 World Series (to the Nats) and then lost it again last season to the Braves. The Astros opened the current season winning FOUR of five but have gone 3-8 since, after losing 6-2 last night to the Rangers in Arlington. Texas appeared in back-to-back World Series in 2010 and 2011 (lost both) but continued to be competitive, making the playoffs in THREE of the next five seasons. However, it's been FIVE consecutive losing seasons for Texas since 2017, including the team losing 100-plus games in 2021 (60-102) for the first time since going 57-105 in 1973. The Rangers won the opener of this four-game series against their in-state rival last night, the team's FOURTH win in its last five games.

The series continues tonight with Houston just 7-9 and Texas checking in at 6-10. The starting pitchers are Jake Odorizzi for Houston and Taylor Hearn for Texas. Odorizzi is 4-1 with a 3 67 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP in 11 career starts vs Texas (teams are 8-3). Hearn is in just his second full season and in two starts vs Houston in 2021, he posted a 1.86 ERA and 0.72 WHIP. Both starters come in struggling in the early going of 2022 but I believe Odorizzi is MUCH more likley to pitch well here than Hearn and c'mon, the Astros are clearly the better team.

It is situation critical for the Golden Knights and the Stars on Tuesday. The Golden Knights have been ill-fated this season and have now lost Lehner for the duration. That leaves Logan Thompson in the breach, and he has struggled in his last starts. Oettinger has been good all season and strong in his last games, so advantage goes to the Stars in the net.
The Stars are back at home, and are statistically much better in Dallas. They lost three straight on the road before their home win on Sunday. Neither team has made much of a run for the wild card spot, but I am less impressed with the Knights. They are also 1-3, including a pair of losses to lesser teams. The Stars have held the line on defense all season, and at this point in the season it is goal-tending and defense that wins games. Dallas has the edge in both categories. Take the Stars to win.

The Cleveland Guardians will be highly motivated for a victory tonight after losing four straight to the Yankees and Angels heading into Game 2 of this series with Los Angeles. This is a great time to 'buy low' on the Guardians Tuesday.
Cleveland starter Triston McKenzie has been too good to be this big of an underdog tonight. He has posted a 1.08 ERA and 0.960 WHIP while allowing just one earned run and eight base runners in 8 1/3 innings with 10 K's across two starts this season.
McKenzie held the Angels to one earned run in 7 innings of a 5-1 victory in his lone career start against them last season. He'll be opposed by Patrick Sandoval, who is 0-1 with a 6.14 ERA and 1.910 WHIP in two career starts against Cleveland.
Cleveland is 21-7 in its last 28 games after scoring one run or fewer, including 12-2 in its last 14 games after getting shut out in its previous game. The Angels are 7-15 in their last 22 home games. The Guardians are 36-15 in the last 51 meetings. Bet the Guardians Tuesday.
