Reason: Game one of this series between the White Sox and Yankees was postponed on Friday. That means they pick up here today, but will only play a single game today, not a doubleheader. The White Sox made it to 19-19 with a win on Thursday over Kansas City. They are just the 2nd team in the AL Central to be at .500 or above with 1st place Minnesota at 22-16. The Sox will start Dallas Keuchel today with a 2-3 record and 5.88 ERA. Keuchel is coming off a very good start where he went five innings and allowed four hits and no runs to these Yankees. The Yankees have catapulted into 1st place in the AL East with a 28-10 record, now 5-games ahead of 2nd place Tampa Bay. Nestor Cortes will start today with a 2-1 record in his seven starts. Cortes has a very good 1.35 ERA and is slightly better at home with a 1.00 ERA in three starts. Cortes has not allowed more than two runs in any of his seven starts and has three games where he's allowed no runs. Your free play is on the Yankees on the Run Line.

JAXON TRAVELER chased MR PHIL around the track in his last outing. He could improve enough in the third start after a layoff to make up the difference today. DISCO PHAROAH made easy work of the competition in his last two races and has a fast workout getting prepped for today. TECHNICAL ANALYSIS has three wins and a third in four at the distance. Shes probably going to be the favorite but her numbers are so much better than the rests to warrant very low odds. CRYSTAL CLIFFS has hit the board in seven of seven races and will be flying at the end. The concern is that she might not get a a lot of pace to chase. FOGGY DREAMS will try to take them gate to wire with the right fractions.

COMMENTS: FILLIE DESPRITs last race was better than it looks on paper as she ran similar fractions at 1 mile as she did in the previous start at 7 furlongs. STREET LUTE is a big fan of the distance with three wins, a second and third in five races. She has a really nice workout between races. CILLA is another thats a fan of 6 furlongs with three wins and a second in four tries. OXANA ran the top last race speed figure, increasing the number in the fourth straight race.

1^st race – (8) Shacks Way was a front-running winner of a starter allowance and can lead all the way here as well. (6) Abuelo Paps was second despite a rough trip and seems the main rival. (7) Where Paradise Lay disappointed in a stakes and can rebound here. (1) Spitball is worth a look off the claim.
2^nd race – (7) Shooger Ray Too was a wide third last time and should be tougher here. (5) Ain’t Da Beer Cold fits better against these after tacking stakes company. (9) D’Rapper may welcome the stretchout. (6) Armando R will be a threat in the final furlong.
3^rd race - (4) Evan Harlan was second and third in his first two starts and should graduate today. (5) Amarillo was bumped at the start. Now adds blinkers and should be formidable with Rosario. (8) Airspeed Velocity was taken up last time and can rebound here. (6) Bad to the Bones might wind up liking turf.
4^th race – The Maryland Sprint, G3 - (5) Full Authority seeks a third straight win and can work out a winning trip here. (6) Mr Phil also owns a two-race winning streak and will be a main rival. (7) Jaxson Traveler likes this track and cannot be ignored. (4) Disco Pharoah is on the improve and will be a threat here.
5^th race – The Gallorette, G3 - (4) Technical Analysis was a game second in a New York stakes and should make amends here. (2) Crystal Cliffs was impressive in a Gulfstream stakes win and looks like the main threat. (5) In a Hurry had a rough, wide trip last time and merits consideration here. (3) Scarabea exits a Grade 1 stakes and gets class relief here.
6th race – (4) Kate’s Kingdom has a nice late kick and can move forward with Geroux in the saddle. (7) Fire in the Hole won a maiden claimer last time but fits in well with this bunch. (11) Golden Voice is in great form but drew a tough post. (8) Murph has a nice turn of speed and may hang around until the end.
7th race – (9) Time Limit has been freshened for this and should respond with a big effort. (2) Oxana could be tough to catch with speed from an inside post. (5) Kaylasaurus should be closing quickly at the end. (6) Cilla was competitive in a Grade 1 sprint and will appreciate a dry track.
8^th race – The Dinner Party Stakes, G2 - (4) Beacon Hill missed by a nose last time and an encore of that effort could put him in the winner’s circle here. (6) Atone only missed by a length in the Grade 1 Maker’s Mark and is the one to fear. (3) Set Piece came up empty in the Maker’s Mark off a layoff and should be fitter for this assignment. (5) English Bee raced wide last time and should get a better trip here with a little more distance
9^th race – The Chick Lang Stakes, G3 - (7) Whelen Springs was a determined winner of an Oaklawn stakes last time and can eke out another win here. (1) Cogburn was a neck behind the top pick last time and once again will be the top threat. (5) Old Homestead is undefeated with a lot of speed and cannot be overlooked. (2) Lightening Larry has been first or second in seven of eight career starts and can make his presence felt.
10^th race – (5) Ready to Purrform is working nicely for his 2022 debut and deserves top billing. (3) Uncaptured Spirit could be hard to reel in off the stretchout. (4) Wow Whata Summer also should benefit from the added distance here. (10) Joe might respond to the dirt to turf move.
11^th race – (5) B Dawk comes off a lopsided win at Keeneland. Stretches out to two turns here but seems talented enough to handle this group. (8) Unikee just missed at seven furlongs and should be helped by softer fractions here. (4) The Addison Pour looked sharp in a win at the distance and should be considered. (10) Ruggs has the speed to be dangerous but could be carried wide from the outside post.
12^th race – (7) Grateful Bred rallied strongly in a prep for this and merits the nod in a competitive race. (2) Carotari is quite formidable at this distance and should be the main foe. (3) Seven Scents won nicely at Keeneland and should not be overlooked. (9) Hollis might benefit from a dirt to turf switch.
13^th race – The Preakness Stakes, G1 - (5) Early Voting showed some talent when he set the pace and then held on for second in the Wood Memorial. He was given six weeks off to recover from that effort which should pay off today with a winning effort. (8) Epicenter turned in a very game effort in the Kentucky Derby, absorbing a tough loss to an 80-1 shot. That was a draining effort, but he’s classy enough to rebound with another big try here. (1) Simplification usually gets a piece of the purse and with a rail trip should once again figure in the exotics. (9) Skippylongstocking was third in the Wood and with a nice closing kick seems poised for another good showing in this field.
14^th race – Arabian race - (3) Quick Sand Aa A had a rough trip when third last time and should make amends with a win here. (1) Like Moulin Rouge A was disqualified from first against the top pick and looks like the key rival. (6) Hiab Al Zaman A hasn’t raced since he beat the top pick in December. Will be dangerous if ready for a big effort. (2) Proud American rallied to win his last start and should be in the hunt today.

Preakness Stakes – Grade 1 | Purse $1.5 Million | One Mile and Three-Sixteenths | Three Year Olds


Top Contenders:
Secret Oath (4) was visually impressive winning the Kentucky Oaks 15 days ago. If we correctly ignore her third place effort in against males in the Arkansas Derby prior to the Oaks, because she broke slowly before rallying from ninth to second while six paths wide on the far turn, before tiring to third, the filly has won three stakes in a row. After a seven length win in the Martha Washington Stakes in January, Secret Oath won the Honeybee Stakes by the same margin four weeks later. Then two weeks ago in the Oaks, Secret Oath took over with three eighths of a mile to run and was widening her margin of victory when the wire came up. That effort earned her a career-best 105 Equibase Speed Figure which is the same as Epicenter (8) earned one day later in the Kentucky Derby. However, the difference between Secret Oath and Epicenter is as a filly Secret Oath gets a five pound break in the weights, which can be significant at this distance. Another factor in her favor is the fact Secret Oath didn’t have to run all-out in the Oaks whereas Epicenter was battling head and head for most of the stretch with Zandon before both were passed by Rich Strike. Luis Saez rode Secret Oath for the first time in the Oaks and gets the return engagement in the Preakness, which is yet another reason I think Secret Oath can follow in the footsteps of Rachel Alexandra, who won the Oaks and Preakness in 2009, and Swiss Skydiver, who finished second in the Oaks before winning the Preakness in 2020.

Creative Minister (2) is a very interesting horse who may go to post at high odds in the Preakness. Tied with Early Voting (5) as the most lightly raced horse in the field, Creative Minister has only run three times and never in a stakes. Other than that his record is the same as that of Early Voting and he’s run just as fast. After losing by a neck in a sprint in his career debut in March, Creative Minister stretched out to two-turns and won decisively in a field of 12 in April, earning a then career-best 88 Figure. Coming back on the undercard on Derby Day, Creative Minister earned a new career-best figure of 108, which was higher than Rich Strike earned winning the Kentucky Derby later in the same day. His connections think so highly of the colt they paid a $150,000 supplemental fee to run in the Preakness as he was not originally nominated for the race. Getting a good inside post, Creative Minister can save ground while racing mid-pack as he has done in his last two races, and if he continues his pattern of improvement he could be strong factor, perhaps even posting the upset win in this year’s Preakness.

Epicenter (8) was ultra-game in the Derby as he moved up quickly after a half-mile to go from eighth to first and held that position until near the wire when passed by Rich Strike. Epicenter also showed his desire to win as he battled with Zandon for most of the last quarter mile of the race and was drawing away by a length from his foe at the end even after Rich Strike had secured victory. After earning four successive 97 figures including when winning the Risen Star Stakes and Louisiana Derby, Epicenter improved to a career-best 105 figure and if he can take even the slightest step forward in the Preakness this race could yield one heck of a stretch battle once again with Secret Oath and with Creative Minister if both repeat their most recent efforts.

Honorable mention goes to Simplification (1) and to Early Voting (5). Simplification rallied past 11 horses to finish fourth in the Derby, earning a career best 101 figure. He may find the slightly shorter distance of the Preakness to his liking although it must be noted when racing one mile and one-eighth for the first time in the Florida Derby prior to the Kentucky Derby, Simplification lost both ground and position in the final eighth of a mile when going from second (a head behind the leader) to third (two lengths behind the winner). Early Voting has been freshened since his neck defeat in the Wood Memorial in April and trainer Chad Brown made the conscious decision to skip the Derby in favor of this race. The colt is on a pattern for nice improvement as he earned a 79 figure in his debut, then 81 winning the Withers Stakes before a 102 figure in the Wood Memorial. My main concern with Early Voting has to do with the fact he led from start to finish in the Withers and tried the same tactics in the Wood, noting in this field both Armagnac (7) and Fenwick (3) are both likely to want the lead from the start as that appears their only hope of success and if that scenario occurs, Early Voting may find himself in a position (third) in the early stages he’s never been in previously.


Win bets:

Secret Oath (4) at odds of 5 to 2 or higher.

Creative Minister (2) at odds of 3 to 1 or higher.

Considering I think the second morning line favorite, Early Voting (5) has less probability to win then is suggested by his low starting odds, this is absolutely a race where we can bet both horses above to win.

The strategy behind playing both exactas is to win the bet twice is Secret Oath and Creative Minister finish first and second.

The reason for leaving Early Voting (5) off the second position on this ticket is to eliminate the lowest paying combination but optionally you can use Early Voting as well.
