Off four straight losses, I expect the Angels to bounce back this afternoon. Through five road starts, Berrios has an ugly 5.93 ERA. On the other hand, Sandoval is 2-0 (Angels are 4-0) with an outstanding 1.50 ERA through four home starts. These same starters opposed each other last summer. Berrios, still with the Twins, pitched well. However, Sandoval was even better. He struck out 13 and allowed one hit, through 8 2/3 innings. The Angels won 2-1. I like their chances here. Consider LA.

The Astros are unexpectedly just 5-5 in their last 10 games, and are off a pair of lopsided losses vs the Mariners. They have also lost both of Garcia’s last starts. Garcia (3.38 ERA) has been generally successful in May, although the shortness of his starts and the numbers of base on balls is concerning. He has given up 5 runs over just 9 inning in his last two starts.
Left-hander Gonzales starts for the Mariners. He has had mixed results this season, giving up a lot of hits and walks against a low number of strikeouts, but somehow still manages to keep the runs down. After a pair of solid starts vs. the Mets and the Jays, he was roughed up by the A’s. The Astros have hit Gonzales hard in past meetings.
The Astros have a decided advantage in relief pitching. They are at the top of the heap, with a season’s best 2.53 ERA average. The Mariners’ bullpen’s ERA is 4.23 for the season, and has struggled lately.
Other than against the Astros in their last 2 starts, the Mariners haven’t had much success, losing 6 straight. They are just middle of the pack in offense for the season, but have swung the bats well lately. The Astros are generally a fine hitting team, and will extra motivated to avoid three straight losses. Starters being roughly equal today, the advantage goes to the Astros in all other categories. Take the Astros to bounce back today, and win.

I'll take my chances with the Mariners as a +137 home dog against the Astros in Sunday's series finale between these two AL West rivals. Seattle has taken the first two games of this series, winning 6-1 on Friday and then 6-0 on Saturday. The Mariners offense has really come to life with the return of outfielder Kyle Lewis. He's homered in each of the last two games and in the 4 games since returning, Seattle's offense is averaging 5.8 runs/game.
Houston's Luis Garcia has pitched well with a 3.37 ERA and 1.101 WHIP in 8 starts this season, but does have a very mediocre 4.59 ERA in 4 career starts against the Mariners. The other big thing is the Astros offense is just not seeing the ball well right now. Not only have they scored just 1 run in 2 games this series, they have now scored 2 or fewer runs in 6 of their last 9 games.
Seattle will have Marco Gonzalez on the mound. He had a bad start last time out against the A's, but had really pitched well prior to that outing. In Gonzalez's last 4 starts vs the Astros, he's given up just 6 ER in 27 innings, allowing just 1 ER in 15 innings over his last 2 home starts vs Houston. Give me the Astros +137!

The Astros have dropped the first two games of this series and similarly, today's starter Luis Garcia has lost each of his last two starts. I look for both to bounce back here in Sunday's series-finale on Sunday. Garcia has generally held up well on the road this season, posting a 2.37 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in four starts. That WHIP improves to 1.12 in three daytime starts. Marco Gonzalez will counter for Seattle. He owns a 4.03 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in four home starts this season. Gonzalez owns a miserable 2-9 team record in 11 career outings against the Astros, recording a 4.53 ERA and 1.51 WHIP along the way. Take Houston.
