    Jeff Siegel's Santa Anita Analysis/Workout Commentary - 6-4-22

    June 4, 2022

“What You Need to Know” - Santa Anita
By Jeff Siegel, Handicapper & Analyst

Specifically designed for the rolling exotic player, Jeff Siegel’s Daily Santa Anita Handicapping Analysis, Wagering Strategies, Workout Commentary, and True Odds Calculations (“TOC”) identify those horses that should be included in daily doubles, pick-3s, pick-4s, pick-5s, and the pick-6.
    *
The “TOC” quantifies the findings of a personal thoroughbred analytics program that contains in its database the results of every race contested at Santa Anita since 2004. More than 75 critical factors in the fields of class, distance, surface, age, and sex have created 227 algorithms that are highly specific to the race being handicapped. The result is a probability line that reflects each contender’s true odds based on a pure 100-point takeout.

The “TOC” applies its mathematical formula only to non-maiden races and displays a maximum of four runners considered the most likely contenders to win. Also listed is the specific algorithm’s sample size plus the top-rated horse’s win percentage and return on investment (ROI). It is suggested that the player utilize the program’s findings to compare each contender’s “true odds” with the morning line and/or actual wagering odds to identify potential overlays and underlays.

Also-eligible runners are not included in any of the calculations until verified as actual starters. When possible, adjustments to the “TOC” will be updated after late scratches.

    Grade Descriptions:
    Grade A=Highest degree of confidence
    Grade B=Solid Play.
    Grade C=Least preferred or pass
Grade X=probable winner but likely at odds too short to play

    RACE 1: Post: 1:00 PT Grade: B-
Use (in order of preference): 1-Shadow Sphinx; 2-Constitutionaffair; 7-Cane Creek Road

Forecast: Five of the nine entrants in this allowance optional claimer exit a similar race last month that was won by Shadow Sphinx (TOC=5/2; ML=7/2), and they’ll have him to beat again after the K. Mulhall-trained gelding had the good fortune of landing the advantageous rail post position. There is no reason to believe the veteran gelding won’t fire right back, as he’s a winner of 10 of 25 career starts and always has been reliable and dependable. Constitutitonaffair (TOC=4-1; ML=3-1), the beaten favorite when a fading seventh in that common race, should greatly appreciate the turn back to a mile, his preferred trip, and seems likely to bounce back with a major effort. He’s a four-time winner over the local lawn and projects to enjoy a soft stalking trip. The likely controlling speed is Cane Creek Road (TOC=4-1; ML=5-1), wheeled back on just five day’s rest by trainer D. O’Neill and stretching out after setting the fractions before finishing second in a downhill dash vs. first-level allowance foes. If he can shake loose without being pressured, the Bayern gelding could take this field a long way.

    Notable Workouts:

    Shadow Sphinx (May 19, 4f, :49.2h). Grade: B-
Under cruise control while coming the final three furlongs in :12 flat and :36.4, plenty left late. Holds his edge.

    RACE 2: Post: 1:33 PT Grade: X
    Single: 5-Becca Taylor

Forecast: Becca Taylor (TOC=2/5; ML=4/5) made hard work of it when winning an allowance race up north last month at 2/5, but the speed figure she earned in that victory clearly tops the field in this year’s renewal of the Desert Stormer S.-G3. From her cozy outside post, the daughter of Old Topper should have every chance to improve her career record to eight wins in nine starts. A perfect three-for-three over the Santa Anita main track, the S. Miyadi-trained filly won’t offer any wagering value at 4/5 on the morning line, so you can use her as a short-priced rolling exotic single or simply pass the race.

    Notable Workouts:

Becca Taylor (May 28, Santa Anita, 5f, 1:02.4h TT). Grade: B
Was under a tight hold leaving the pole and just galloping to the top in :26.1 and :38.1, remained under wraps through the lane and looked fine, up in 1:02.3 on our watches. Maintains her form.

    RACE 3: Post: 2:07 PT Grade: B-
Use (in order of preference): 1-Aloha Kitten; 3-A New Peace

Forecast: We’ll go two-deep in the third race, a $25,000 claiming turf miler for older fillies and mares. Aloha Kitten (TOC=4/5; ML=7/2) has been overmatched in her last three races but returns to reality today and should regain her best form. The D. O’Neill-trained daughter of Aloha Kitten lands the good rail and projects to inherit a ground-saving, pace prompting trip in a field without much speed. Additionally, she’s a two-time winner over the local lawn and has several back speed figures that are better than par for this level. A New Peace (TOC=9/2; ML=5/2) shortens to a mile and us likely to stick better at this distance in this easier spot. She has never been all that generous under pressure but against this group she may get brave. Both should be included in rolling exotic play with preference on top to Aloha Kitten.

Aloha Kitten (May 15, Santa Anita, 5f, 1:02.2h TT). Grade: B-
Mostly on her own in solo training track drill, splits of :25.2, 37.3 and 1:02.2, maintenance move for D. O’Neill. In good enough shape, can improve with a class drop.

    RACE 4: Post: 2:38 PT Grade: C+
Use (in order of preference: 2-Fun Money; 3-Lov U Mean It; 8-Indict the Tiger

Forecast: This appears to be a moderate maiden special weight sprint for juveniles, so we suggest you tread lightly. Fun Money flashed speed before weakening late when third over a wet track at Churchill Downs in her debut just nine days ago, so with a cross-country ship combined with a short turnaround it’s hard to be sure what we’ll get from this filly who will be facing the boys as the 8/5 morning line favorite. Love U Mean It stayed on willingly to be third in a decent debut last month and with that race behind her the daughter of Smokem has every right to step forward. The extra half furlong should be welcomed. Among the newcomers, Indict the Tiger is bred to win early (Smiling Tiger) and has done enough in the a.m. to indicate he has competitive speed for L. Mendez, who won with a first-time baby yesterday. The outside draw should allow him to pop and go or stalk and pounce.

    Notable Workouts:

Reign of Speed (April 28, Santa Anita, 4f, :48.1hg). Grade: C+
Always far back in team gate drill with Fordy G (4f, :46.2hg) and Honor It (5f, :59.3hg), no real pressure but dropping back steadily while outrun from the start. Workmates are pretty good but acts like maiden claiming material at this stage.
    View Workout Video

Indict the Tiger (May 30, Santa Anita, 4f, :48hg). Grade: B
Three-horse gate drill, lengthy juvenile by Smiling Tiger was best inside Balenciaga Betty (4f, :48.3hg) and Codis Breaker (4f, :48.4hg) while being hustled along throughout, splits of :24.1, :35.4 and :48 flat. Seems to have some run and should be live at first asking if no world beaters show up.

    RACE 5: Post: 3:12 PT Grade: B-
Use (in order of preference): 7-Rhea Moon; 2-Carroll Girl

Forecast: Rhea Moon somehow managed to get herself beat at 40 cents on the dollar in a similar maiden event for fillies and mares over this course and distance last time out and will be a short price again to graduate in a field that drew the usual suspects. In the money in all four starts (the first two in Ireland), the P. D’Amato-trained sophomore shouldn’t make any mistakes today. Carroll Girl, herself a beaten favorite in two of her last three outings, may not be one to trust either, though her numbers are consistent and are solid for the level. If Rhea Moon runs into a roadblock somewhere along the way, ‘Girl could finally break through. We’ll have tickets including both in our rolling exotics, with the main push going to Rhea Moon.

    __________________________________________________ ____________________________

    RACE 6: Post: 3:45 PT Grade: B
    Single: 7-Midnight Lightning

Forecast : This state-bred maiden sprint for juveniles came up unusually soft. The first timers haven’t trained like much, and the known element appears somewhat lackluster, though Midnight Lightning, purchased for $150,000 as a yearling, exits a fast race and seems the most likely to improve. The son of Midnight Storm didn’t leave cleanly, then settled off the pace before staying on with interest through the lane to be a distant third behind nice prospect Thirsty John. Not much more will be needed to handle this assignment.

    Notable Workouts:

    Weasley (May 22, Santa Anita, 4f, :48.2hg). Grade: C+
Ridden most of the way in team gate drill with Theuntouchableone (same time), splits of :23.4, :35.3 and :48.3 on our watches, stride-for-stride throughout. Hard to separate, both act like maiden claiming juveniles at this stage.
    View Workout Video

    Westerberg (May 21, Santa Anita, 4f, :49.4hg). Grade: C-
Always far back in gate drill with One Smokin’ Rita (4f, :48.4hg) while lacking speed, splits of :24.4, :37 flat and :49.4, ridden late but without a response. Hard to endorse.
    View Workout Video

My Man Biggie (May 25, Santa Anita, 4f, :49.1hg). Grade: C+
Some coaxing in the opening stages, then wasn’t asked much while inside with Knockout Guy (same time), splits of :25 flat, :37.1 and :49.2 on our watches, second best to ‘Guy when eased up after a half. Was well-beaten in debut in straight maiden company, may have a bit of improvement in him but acts like a maiden claiming type.

    RACE 7: Post: 4:17 PT Grade: X
    Single: 3-Balnikhov

Forecast: Balnikhov (TOC=3/5; ML=4/5), second in both starts since being imported from Ireland, returns from Kentucky after finishing an excellent second to Stolen Base in the American Turf-G2 on Derby Day when rallying from far back, hitting the front too soon, and then getting worn down late. Blinkers are added and he’s reunited with leading pilot J. Hernandez, who was aboard the P. D’Amato-trained gelding when he was nosed out in the Singletary S. in his U.S. debut in early April. Listed at 4/5 on the morning line and looking very much like an odds-on favorite on paper, he can be regarded as a short-priced, rolling exotic single in a race that otherwise should be left alone.

    __________________________________________________ ____________________________

    RACE 8: Post: 4:49 PT Grade: X
    Single: 7-Whiskey Blue

Forecast: Bottom-rung maiden claiming fillies and mares sprint six furlongs in the penultimate race on the card. Typical of these types of races, there isn’t much to deal with. Whiskey Blue has been away since August but returns with a decent series of workouts that should have her fit enough for a barn that hits at a strong 21% with layoff runners. With just two races of experience – one of which was declared a no-contest at Del Mar last summer – the daughter of Maclean’s Music would seem to have more upside than her much more exposed rivals. We’ll put her on top by default but it’s another race that probably should be skipped over.

    Notable Workouts:

Whiskey Blue (May 28, Santa Anita, 4f, :48.3hg). Grade: B-
In blinkers, was hustled from the gate to prove best over Agency (same time) with splits of :24.2, :36.2 and 48.4, okay work for bottom-rung maiden claimer in M. Glatt barn. Aways since August and seems to be returning in good enough shape. May be competitive off the bench vs. soft foes.

    RACE 9: Post: 5:21 PT Grade: B-
Use (in order of preference): 2-Percolate; 4-Quintecents; 5-One More Bid

Forecast: Trainer Michael McCarthy has two main players in this maiden turf sprint for older horses. Percolate, away since last October, returns with Lasix and has form that is better than the lines show, so with good racing luck today he should be along in time. Also, the blinkers-off angle always catches our eye. Stable mate Quintecents ran well over this course and distance in his second career outing (and his first since September) when second in a maiden $50,000 last month. A solid work in company with Ce Ce since that race indicates the son of Goldencents is set to produce another forward move. He should be on or near the lead throughout. One More Bid stumbled badly and lost all chance at the start when unplaced two-turning on the main track last time out. His first two outings – both sprints – weren’t bad, and with the addition of blinkers and the turn back to a sprint the son of California Chrome is worth giving another chance to.

    Notable Workouts:

    Quintecents (May 27, Santa Anita, 4f, :47.4h). Grade: B
Stayed even inside Ce Ce (same time) without undue pressure (classy workmate going easily), splits of :23.2 and :47.3 on our watches, decent move for maiden. Produced a forward move in his second career start (and first off a long layoff) and is doing well.

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

      Churchill Downs - Race #8
      Picks Notes
#2 Floriform His first foray into graded stakes company went well at Tampa, and I really liked his Keeneland win last time out. Think this might be his time to stamp himself an interesting player in graded turf routes.
#4 Get Smokin Speed stopped in Dubai, but he's back at a better trip while likely to flash his customary pace back at a route trip. There is some dangerous pace and quality here, but I think he is vulnerable again late.
#1 Admission Office Finisher might be a touch better going longer than this, but he has some class to him and can't be counted out. That said, I'm a bit worried about the race flow in a short field.
Race Summary The good old Grade III Arlington Stakes here at.......Churchill Downs brings together a small but decent group. Riser Floriform earned another shot with this kind after the really nice Keeneland win and might offer an okay price as something like the third choice?

      Churchill Downs - Race #9
      Picks Notes
#6 Top Gunner He should be in line for a great trip from close range, and he should be able to get the jump on some of the other threats who lack his early pace. Leads into the lane and holds?
#5 Bob's Edge He's a reliable finisher, but there isn't a ton of super serious early pace lined up in here, so I worry that he's going to come alive a bit too late to land this.
#8 Long Range Toddy I thought he'd show up with a bit better than he did last out, but nobody was showing up with much that day behind Jackie's Warrior. Bounce back effort today at a price is possible.
Race Summary Top Gunner has some really solid positional pace and should be right up on the splits early here while probably not facing too quick a tempo. Will give him the edge on that tactical advantage today.

      Churchill Downs - Race #11
      Picks Notes
#2 Grand Sonata He's the proven class here off the races earlier this year, and I'm hoping the presence of a couple talented and lightly raced players further outside leaves this guy at a slightly overlaid and playable price.
#4 Play Action Pass His local allowance win was pretty solid, and I don't think his best game leaves him overmatched in here. Wouldn't be shocked to see him sneak in underneath at a number.
#9 James Jones Maiden winner was sharp here last month, and he probably still has some upside with just two starts under his belt. The barn can obviously develop a young turfer, so there's a chance this guy is sitting on a big one.
Race Summary Plenty of respect in here for #8 Summer Anthem as well, but Grand Sonata has some proven stakes quality and seems like a great fit here from a spying spot early.

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Pocono Downs - Race #1
        Picks Notes
#8 INDIGO ART Absolute monster move in upset victory, can he duplicate it?
#7 PLAY THE FIELD Three-peat bid was foiled by front end, 8-to-5 winner.
#2 PUZZLING Paced evenly in 1:50.4 race on class hike to this level.
Race Summary If you blinked, you missed Indigo Art’s freakish last-to-first move on the final turn en route to a 16-1 romp. He steps up in class and draws post 8 again, but if he runs like that he can repeat. Bet to win and place.

        Pocono Downs - Race #2
        Picks Notes
#2 SEXY BLUE CHIP Well-spotted to enhance 11-for-38 record.
#4 MY WISH CAME TRUE #4 MY WISH CAME TRUE – Chased fave around the track, starts for new connections.
#8 OCTAVE – Tries to car #8 OCTAVE – Tries to carry over form at the Meadows, driver’s choice of two.
Race Summary Sexy Blue Chip beat Indigo Art (see 1st race) and gets class relief after winning 3 of his last 5 starts. Don’t expect 5-2 morning-line price but expect to see him in the winners’ circle. Play 2-4 and 2-8 exactas.

        Meadowlands - Race #1
        Picks Notes
#4 ROCKABILLY CHARM Moved early in latest, got caught on clear lead, blew turn in race prior.
#10 DREAM OUT LOUD In-form 15-year-old has post 10 to overcome yet again.
#3 CASINO BAGS ANSO Won in slow heat, could get jump on main rivals.
Race Summary Rockabilly Charm corrected his erratic behavior from two starts ago and made a good run at his 28th victory. He was on the move early from fourth, built a clear lead into the stretch and held third behind the sharp, three-peat winner. Bet to win and place.

Top Horse Racing Picks for Saturday, June 4, 2022
By J.W. Paine in Horse Racing

We’re going to spend most of our time on the turf courses at the three tracks I visited for my Saturday horse racing picks.

As usual, we have plenty of stakes races to wager on, what with Churchill Downs featuring six stakes matches all by itself. Sure, the other two tracks only bring a single stakes race each to the party, but hey—it’s the thought that counts, right?

In any case, remember to check out the full race cards for each of the three tracks at our horse race betting sites.

          Good luck!
My Saturday Horse Racing Picks for Belmont Park

We’ll begin on the turf course with race four, a six-furlong allowance optional claiming race for New York-born and -bred three-year-olds and upward. My money’s on the 5/2 morning-line favorite, Surprise Boss, ridden by Kendrick Carmouche.

This three-year-old bay colt moneyed six of his eight career starts, winning two, including his most recent.
What put him into the spotlight for me is his performance last year in a couple of stakes races—the Bertram F. Bongard Stakes (Black Type) her at Belmont (third place) and the Rick Violette Stakes (Black Type) at Saratoga (fourth place).

The fourth-place at Saratoga was right before Surprise Boss broke his maiden, and the Bongard Stakes third-place finish was the race immediately after his maiden win.

Juan C. Vazquez trains Surprise Boss for Richie’s World Stables LLC.

Race seven is a seven-furlong turf run for fillies and mares three years old and upward. If Jose L. Ortiz rides the 5/1 underdog Mona Stella into the starting gate, bet the pair to win.

This four-year-old chestnut filly finished in the money five of her seven career starts, winning two.

Co-owner and longtime horse racing veteran Patrick L. Biancone trains Mona Stella for Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, Andy Biancone, and himself.

By the way, if Mona Stella is not in the race, buy a win ticket on the second half of the 1/1A coupled entry—the 4/1 Romanosa, with Trevor McCarthy aboard.

This four-year-old filly recently imported from the UK finished seven of her eight career starts in the money, winning one.

Christophe Clement trains Romanosa for Madaket Stables LLC, Michael Dubb, Tony Weintraub, and Brandon M. Dalinka.

Race nine is the Pennine Ridge Stakes (Grade II), a $200,000 purse, 1-1/8 miles turf race for three-year-olds. I have no doubt the morning-line favorite, Unanimous Consent, will finish in the money in this race, but I’m less convinced that his demonstrated “lie back in the tall grass until the final furlong” style will serve him well enough for this race.

Instead, I’m betting my two dollars on the 5/2 second-favorite, Emmanuel, piloted by top jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr.

This bay colt moneyed three of his four career starts, winning two. He notably finished fourth in the Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth Stakes (Grade II) at Gulfstream Park in March, and second in the Blue Grass Stakes (Grade I) at Keeneland in April.
Those two races gave Emmanuel enough qualifying points to put him j-u-s-t the wrong side of the bubble for a starting post at the 2022 Kentucky Derby.

Thoroughbred racing Hall of Famer Todd A. Pletcher trains Emmanuel for owners WinStar Farm LLC and Siena Farm LLC.
          Saturday’s Picks for Churchill Downs
Race five — Regret Stakes (Grade III)

This is a $200,000 purse, 1-1/8 miles turf race for three-year-old fillies. I like the 7/5 morning-line favorite, McKulick, with Tyler Gaffalione in the irons.

In a tight field of six, this bay filly is in a class by herself, with three money finishes in three career starts, one of them a win. After winning her initial maiden attempt last August, she went on to finish third in the Miss Grillo Stakes (Grade II) at Belmont Park last October, and second in the Edgewood Stakes (Grade II) here at Churchill Downs in May.

Triple Crown and Breeders’ Cup veteran Chad C. Brown trains McKulick for Klaravich Stables, Inc.
          Race seven — Shawnee Stakes

This is a $200,000 purse, 1-1/16 miles dirt track run for fillies and mares four years old and upward. I have to agree with the morning line here, as well: Bet the 3/5 favorite, Pauline’s Pearl, ridden by veteran jockey Luis Saez.

The race will be much tighter than the odds suggest, but this four-year-old filly should still easily prevail versus the rest of this six-horse field.

For the record, Pauline’s Pearl moneyed 11 of her 13 career starts, winning five. More importantly, she’s moneyed all three of her 2022 runs, which included a second-place finish in the Azeri Stakes (Grade II), and firsts in both the Houston Ladies Classic Stakes (Grade III) and the La Troienne Stakes (Grade I).

Forty-year horse racing veteran (and Hall of Famer) Steven M. Asmussen trains Pauline’s Pearl for Stonestreet Stables LLC.
Race eight — Arlington Stakes (Grade III)

This is a $200,000 purse, 1-1/16 miles turf race for four-year-olds and upward. I’m not nearly as impressed as the morning-line is with the top favorites, so I’m buying a win ticket on the 4/1 underdog, Floriform, piloted by Tyler Gaffalione.

This four-year-old bay colt finished in the money five of his seven career starts, winning three. He notably finished third in a field of 12 in the Tampa Bay Stakes (Grade III) in February.

Longtime horse racing legend William I. Mott trains Floriform for Juddmonte.
          Race nine — Aristides Stakes

This is a $200,000 purse, six-furlong dirt track race for four-year-olds and upward. This one’s going to be tight, but I see the 9/2 underdog Miles Ahead—with Joseph Talamo in the irons—in the winner’s circle.

This five-year-old dark bay gelding moneyed 15 of his 22 career starts, winning eleven. His most recent win was the Gulfstream Park Sprint Stakes (Listed) in February. He also won the Smile Sprint Invitational Stakes (Grade III) last July at Gulfstream.

Longtime horse racing veteran Paul J. McGee trains Miles Ahead for Jay Em Ess Stable.
          Race ten — Blame Stakes

This is a $200,000, 1-1/8 miles dirt track run for four-year-olds and upward. I’m putting my money of the 5/2 second-favorite, Scalding, piloted by top jockey Javier Castellano.

This four-year-old dark bay colt finished five of his six career starts in the money, winning four.
While the morning-line favorite has a slightly better record, Scalding hasn’t been lounging in his paddock for the past six months—he’s bringing home the bacon, with wins this year in the $100,000 Michelob Ultra Challenger Stakes (Grade III) in March at Tampa Bay, and the Ben Ali Stakes (Grade III) in April at Keeneland.

Hall of Famer Claude R. McGaughey III trains Scalding for owners Grandview Equine, Cheyenne Stable, LLC, and LNJ Foxwoods.
          Race eleven — Audubon Stakes

This is a $200,000 purse, 1-1/8 miles turf run for three-year-olds. I like the way the morning-line thinks for this race: Bet the 7/2 favorite, Grand Sonata, with Tyler Gaffalione aboard.

This dark bay colt moneyed five of his six career starts, winning three. Included in those wins were the Dania Beach Stakes (Listed) in January and the Kitten’s Joy Stakes (Grade III) in February—both at Gulfstream Park.

Todd A. Pletcher trains Grand Sonata for owner-breeder Whisper Hill Farm, LLC.
Saturday Horse Racing Picks for Santa Anita Park

We’re on the turf course for race one, a one-mile allowance optional claiming run for three-year-olds and upward. I’m betting my money on the second-favored (at 7/2) Shadow Sphinx, ridden by Jose Valdivia, Jr.

This seven-year-old dark bay gelding finished in the money 14 of his 25 career starts, winning ten. That gives him a significantly better record than any of his competition in this eleven-horse field.
It also doesn’t hurt that Shadow Sphinx has been regularly posting triple-digit speed figures for his entire career.

Kristin Mulhall—who took Imperialism to the 2004 Kentucky Derby—trains Shadow Sphinx for owners 47 Roses, LLC, Mojallali Stables, and Twilight Racing LLC.

Race two is the Desert Stormer Stakes (Grade III), a $200,000 purse, six-furlong dirt track run for fillies and mares three years old and upward.

This one counts as my no-brainer pick for the day: Bet the 4/5 morning-line favorite, Becca Taylor, piloted by top jockey Juan J. Hernandez.

A standout in this short field of five, this four-year-old bay filly finished in the money all eight of her career starts, winning seven of them. That includes the Evening Jewel Stakes (Black Type) last year, and the Spring Fever Stakes (Black Type) in February—both here at Santa Anita.

Regularly ranked among the top 100 in wins, earnings, or both for the past 17 years, Steven Miyadi trains Becca Taylor for owner-breeder Nicholas B. Alexander.

Race seven is the Cinema Stakes, and $100,000 grass run for three-year-olds. While I suspect this will be a tighter race than the morning line suggests, I still agree that the winner will be the 4/5 favorite, Balnikhov, with Juan J. Hernandez in the irons.

A recent import from Ireland, this dark bay gelding moneyed eight of his ten career starts, winning three.

Gulfstream Park Picks for June 4, 2022 – Horse Racing Betting Tips

It is Epsom Derby Day in the UK at Epsom Downs. This is one of the big days on the horse racing calendar in Europe. Along with the festivities at Ascot approaching, this is the month for British horse racing.

Next weekend there’s the final leg of the Triple Crown, which hopes to close out Triple Crown season with an exciting race. There isn’t much fanfare about the race after Rich Strike opted out of the Preakness Stakes to remove any chance of a Triple Crown winner in 2022.
            Epsom Derby
The most prestigious race on the flat turf is scheduled for Saturday. Check out our Epsom Derby preview for more information.

Stateside in the US, we’re pointing to Gulfstream Park in Florida on Saturday afternoon. Gulfstream has ten races worth $321,000 on the dirt, turf, and synthetic surface. Head below for our free Gulfstream Park picks on June 4, 2022.

                # 4 OVA CHARGED 6/5

                # 8 SPIRITED BEAUTY 10/1

                # 2 SNOWBALL 9/2

OVA CHARGED is the top wager in this race. Ought to be given consideration here on the basis of the figures in the speed realm alone. Trainer boasts very solid win figs at this distance and surface. This filly should be given a chance just off the earnings per start in dirt sprint races alone. SPIRITED BEAUTY - Could beat this field given the 84 speed rating garnered in her last outing. With Rosendo getting the mount, watch out for this animal. SNOWBALL - Must be carefully examined given the class of races run as of late. Looks very good for the conditions of this affair today, showing solid figs in dirt sprint races lately.

                  Energy Downs 307 Racing - Race #7 - Post: 3:42pm - Claiming - 4.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $5,600 Class Rating: 71

                  #5 SUNSHINE EMILY (ML=5/1)
                  #1 COUNTRY BOY CHARM (ML=7/2)

SUNSHINE EMILY - I have to like this mare's winning probability at the shorter trip. Every now and then I take some time off, when I come back to the track I feel refreshed. I think it's the same with this mare as she always seems to run well after a layoff. The rider and conditioner combination have a lucrative return on investment when they team up. Taking a trip down the class scale; has the class ability to make her presence felt. COUNTRY BOY CHARM - The jockey and conditioner combination have a positive return on investment when they work together. When a sprinter is back in a race less than 10 days after his last outing, it generally means he's fit. This horse didn't run well on a muddy track in his last race at Energy Downs 307 Racing. You should discount that effort.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #3 ROUGH PASSAGE (ML=8/5), #4 BACKCHATTER (ML=4/1), #7 EXPECT ROYAL (ML=8/1),

ROUGH PASSAGE - Hasn't been on the Energy Downs 307 Racing oval in the last three weeks. Cause for some concern. Can't wager on this pony in today's sprint of 4 furlongs. Hasn't even hit the board in a short distance affair recently. The rating last out doesn't fit very well in this contest when I look at the Equibase class figure of today's event. Mark this horse as a likely underlay. BACKCHATTER - The third place finish position in the last affair was not the best. Finished third in his most recent race with a most unsatisfactory speed figure. When I look at today's class figure, it would take an improved performance to score after that in this group. EXPECT ROYAL - This gelding hasn't had any on the board results in sprint contests in the last sixty days. 8/1 odds isn't enough for this participant when examining the most recent outings.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - COUNTRY BOY CHARM - Racing pattern would suggest this animal is fit for today's race. Should perform well in this race.

                  STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Play #5 SUNSHINE EMILY to win if you can get odds of 3/1 or more
