Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

Yonkers Raceway has a 12-race card set to begin the week. The feature goes in Race 9, an Open Handicap Pace with a $39,000 purse. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 7, and the sequence will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 7

1-Sonny Weaver N (3/2)-Usually a big track horse but had no issue getting on the engine and wiring this kind in last. Should be a major player and will offer no value.
7-Rockin M (8-1)-Rolled the back-half in .54 to cash a 2nd place check in a Pop-Up last week. Willing to take a swing there will be enough pace to close into and should be a solid price.

Race 8

4-Speed Man N (5/2)-Came off a sick scratch with a strong try from post 7 at this same class. Has a post edge on last week's winner #6 and could be even better tonight.
6-Priceless Beach (7/2)-Gingras had the pedal down and was used a couple of times in a sharp win. Winner in 4 of 6 starts at YR should be battling the one above for top honors.

Race 9

1-Mach N Cheese (5-1)-Should get a better trip than in last and comes right back which hasn't been the case lately. Team Stratton trainee can be in the mix throughout.
8-Betterrock (7/2)-Shipped back from M1 and had a big effort to just get nipped at the wire. Joe B has gate speed to use, and the pedal should be down here.

Race 10

3-Beltane A (3-1)-Does its best work racing near the top of the stack and Gingras should get there with this post draw. Needs a sharp steer to take a picture at this class and things could fall into place here.
6-I'm Some Graduate (7/2)-Wired this kind in last but got away with a thirty second 2nd quarter and that game plan is unlikely to be repeated. Looking for Bartlett to come off cover and be there at the wire.

Picks Notes
#3 Ambushed He has some route pace cutting back, and that might lead to a really great trip while finishing into the splits. He took a nice step forward in that second career start, and any more improvement today would make him a handful.
#4 Be the Boss He has enough pace to get involved early on, but I worry that he tends to give away ground late, leaving him vulnerable to getting reeled in again.
#2 Straight Time Have to respect the team, but the form is really not much to write home about, and I worry he's going to take some cash off the Gulfstream form. Capable.
Race Summary Ambushed showed some decent pace going long on the grass, and he might like it here in a race with some players who have sprint form that tends to fade late. Second or third choice?

Presque Isle Downs - Race #7
Picks Notes
#1 American Goddess She made a nice first impression over the local footing with that easy score last out, and she should get a decent enough trip while saving some ground from the inside. Capable right back.
#4 Music Amore She was well meant in the win last time out, and she's rising in class here for the new team. She'll need to be sharp while cutting back, but the recent form is pretty compelling.
#3 Platinum Gem Pace has been struggling a bit with this kind, but there isn't a ton of depth in this group, giving her a chance to hang around for a piece of this.
Race Summary American Goddess can be tough right back off the easy win last time out, as she's not meeting the deepest bunch and won't have to take any big step forward to land this one.

Presque Isle Downs - Race #8
Picks Notes
#5 Broken Love She's back off the layoff after heading to the bench off a stopping try, but she has some back races that look competitive here, and she should offer a more appealing number on the board today.
#7 Stormy Stella She's a forward player getting into the easiest spot of her career, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see her flash a bit of pace and get brave in the lane against this cheaper group.
#4 Matcha She's capable of something better than she showed last time out, and she ran a few good races here last year. Think she can bounce back while getting back on this footing.
Race Summary Broken Love has had 10 chances, but she's capable of something much better than she showed in her final start last year, and the price should be way better than the 7/5 offering last out.
