HorseBetting’s Victorian racing analyst has run his eye over the eight-race meeting at Mornington set to be run on Monday afternoon and has come up with his best bets, free quaddie numbers and top odds for the meeting set to be run on a Heavy 9. The rail returns to the true position for the Queen’s Birthday meeting scheduled to get underway from 12:25pm AEST.
Best Bet at Mornington – Love Takes Time

In the opening leg of the quaddie, the Anthony & Sam Freedman yard will be looking for Love Takes Time to bounce back from a midfield finish at Sandown last time out. We think the four-year-old mare is one with above average ability and considering she was beaten just over a length by the group quality Princess Rhaenys last time out, we think this mare is a clear best bet of the day. She is a genuine backmarker, so the race will need to be run to her liking, but with move early speed in this than a greyhound race, it looks like she will get the race run to her liking. Jye McNeil could ride a winner on a broomstick at the moment and considering he sticks on board Love Takes Time is hard to see how she gets beaten. Take the $2.20 with online betting sites and run.

The Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained Morean returns from a brief two-month spell and looks well placed to add a second career win at her fifth start. The three-year-old filly was competitive in races that were much harder than what she faces on Monday. With her sole win coming when fresh and the fact she is yet to miss the top three in any of her four previous starts, we expect the stable will have her raring to go first-up. From barrier three, look for Ethan Brown to have the Divine Prophet filly in the moving line with cover and from there, should gain a perfect tow into the race. With a sharp turn of foot and strong form behind her, we expect Morean to be too good for this lot.

One we are willing to give a push at a price on Monday is yet another runner from the Anthony & Sam Freedman, this time Bedford. The eight-year-old gelding is one of just four runners in this field to have won on a heavy and considering race favourite Princess Rhaenys is yet to face a bog track, we think Bedford’s experience will pay dividends in this. The eight-year-old gelding has not won in close to two years but strikes conditions that will suit him perfectly. With two wins and two seconds on heavy, we expect a forward showing from Bedford and at $26 with Neds is one we are happy to back on Monday.

We thought that John O’Shea’s filly Jal Lei could have been competitive on Saturday at Randwick, but they scratched there and opted to run in this Benchmark 72 Handicap instead. The three-year-old by Sebring has won three of her six starts, while her past two starts were the only two times she has missed the placings. In saying that, those two runs were at group level, finishing behind Fangirl in a Sydney Group 2 and then finishing down the track behind Annavisto in a Group 3 at Flemington in March. She should find this much easier and go close to winning.

Drawn the inside alley for this 1600m event, Chad Schofield will be able to land just off the speed, giving his mount a terrific chance to break her maiden albeit in a three- and four-year-old Benchmark 64. Race 5

4-Joesstar Of Mia A (9/5)-There should be no excuses tonight, drops into a soft condition and should best this group.

Race 6

1-Traceur Hanover (5-1)-Got caught wide in last but could get on the point and not look back this time.
2-Diamondbeach (8-1)-Loses Brennan to #1 and recent form has been dull. But this 5-year-old likes the Hilltop hitting the board in 22 of 45 starts with 8 pictures. Has been facing tough company and this could be a drop and pop situation.
4-No Lou Zing (5/2)-Lou has only 1 picture in 14 starts in 2022 but just missed in last versus this kind. Best to respect, did miss a start before the last outing and comes right back within a week here.

Race 7

1-Bronx Seelster (1/1)-Winner of 2 straight, both coming from post 7 versus this class. It seems like this should be easier but have a feeling it won't be.
4-Always And Again (3-1)-Had excuses in the last 3 starts and has the gate speed to get on the point or in the pocket. Gingras could have the pedal down and this Engblom trainee can motor.

Race 8

1-American Dealer N (5/2)-Joe B steers for Toscano and this 5-year-old should enjoy the company. Has 2 wins in 6 YR starts and looks like a major player at a short price.
5-Speed Man N (7/2)-Bartlett steers and he knows well. Should be out and winging and will try to control the pace. Disappointed in last after a soft opening half but will look for a stronger effort here.
6-Priceless Beach (7/2)-Winner of 2 straight, both by a neck, can get to the winner's circle without taking an early lead. Probably best to not dismiss.

Race 9

1-Moonlight Shadow (4-1)-Kakaley has taken a picture before with this 5-year-old and he gets tonight's assignmemt. Should be racing near the lead throughout and could return to top form.
6-Forever Fav (5/2)-Makes the 1st start for the Height barn off a claim after losing a photo at this class. Gingras takes a seat and will look for an aggressive steer. Not loving the short price morning line but can cash the top check with a strong try.

#5 One More Kelly There isn't much confirmed pace signed on in here, so maybe this stretchout filly can flash some speed while moving around two turns after an even tracking effort last out.
#1 Cornice Traverse The local debut was decent enough, but I think there are some other options in this one, and I worry she's going to take more than her share of cash.
#4 Moon Hill She is getting short on excuses as she heads into her ninth start, but she has some tactical speed and owns a few interesting running lines if she can fire off the layoff.
Race Summary One More Kelly might have enough pace to be right up on the splits while trying two turns for the first time, and there's probably enough pedigree to see out this route distance.

Presque Isle Downs - Race #7

#5 Del Griffith He's interesting while rising to face better off the score with cheaper last time out, and he has a little bit of finishing ability that might help him come alive late at a mid-range price.
#3 Extrasexybigdaddee Forward player should get another good run of things right up top, and he has some room to come forward in this second start off the bench. He's a pretty proven route type in a race where the top choice will be trying two turns for the first time.
#6 Surly Furious There was never a doubt at even money last time out, and he rolled home in his only local route effort. Think he's pretty tough here at another relatively short price.
Race Summary Del Griffith is interesting while moving around two turns, as as he's bred to get the trip and might wind up getting a decent trip for his grinding style.

Presque Isle Downs - Race #8

#9 Eagles Palace He wasn't competitive with tougher here last year, but he'll show up again to make this second start of the season while trying the lowest local level he's ever seen. Interesting enough if the price is right.
#10 Wrote in Stone I wouldn't want to take too short a price here after this guy outran his 21/1 odds last time out, but he has been steadily moving in the right direction, and something like his last obviously keeps him in the picture again.
#7 Golden Survivor He finished just behind Wrote in Stone when they met last out, and he also has some upside with the comeback race under his belt. Obvious player.
Race Summary Eagles Palace is worth a look at this level locally, as I don't think his August effort here last year leaves him completely overmatched against this softer group.

JUMP BACK JACK - This gelding notched a strong speed rating of 88 in his last contest. That speed rating should be high enough to prove victorious this time. A thoroughbred coming back this rapidly after a good outing is a good sign. MURTAGH - After the event aboard this horse on May 9th, the jockey is going to be in touch with the gelding much better. This gelding likes to be near the lead. Today's event is a shorter distance and should aid his likelihood of winning. HAPPILEA - I think Thistledown players know a good thing when they see the jock/trainer tandem of Rivera and Wolochuk. Their win percentage together has been strong. Won his last after shipping in. I like him again.

Vulnerable Contenders: #2 CHROMED IMPULSE (ML=3/1), #4 BAD LITTLE BEAST (ML=7/2), #1 STAY THIRSTY AMIGO (ML=9/2),

CHROMED IMPULSE - The speed rating last out doesn't fit very well in this event when I look at the class rating of today's race. Mark this racer as a questionable contender. BAD LITTLE BEAST - Hasn't hit the board in any short distance affairs of late. Doubtful to see him doing it today either. Very long layoff, then came back and finished fourth. Tough to expect much better this time out. STAY THIRSTY AMIGO - This gelding hasn't had any in the money results in sprint events in the last couple months.
