MLB | Guardians vs Rockies
Play on: Guardians -155 at Mirage
My free play is on the Cle Indians at 8:40 ET.
The Colorado Rockies' got off to a solid start in 2022 but after opening 16-11 through May 11, the Rockies welcome Cleveland to Coors Field for a three-games series SEVEN games under .500 at 27-34 (last in the NL West). The Cleveland Guardians visit Colorado having won 10 of their last 13 games after taking three of four from Oakland over the weekend, the team's FOURTH straight series win. The Guardians were a season-low five games below .500 on Memorial Day morning at 19-24, but their recent surge has them 29-27, 3 1/2-games behind the first-place Twins in the AL Central.
Tuesday's starters are Shane Bieber (3-3, 2.91 ERA) for Cleveland and Antonio Senzatela (2-3, 4.83 ERA) for Colorado. Bieber was a rookie in 2018 and in 2019 went 15-8 and was the All-Star Game's MVP. In the COVID-shortened 2020 season he went 8-1 in 12 starts (team was 10-2), leading the AL in wins, ERA (1.63) and Ks (122), while posting an 0.87 WHIP and .167 BAA. He won the AL's Cy Young award. Bieber missed a chunk of the 2021 season (7-4 with a 3.17 ERA but 134 Ks in 96.2 IP) with a strained throwing shoulder. He was expected to be back at full strength this season and he has been. He posted a 2.45 ERA in five April starts but opened May by allowing seven ERs in just 3.1 innings vs Toronto on the 7th. However, over his last five starts, he's allowed just six ERs over 32.1 innings for a 1.67 ERA with 39 strikeouts (Guardians are 4-1).
Senzatela is in his sixth season with Colorado and through nine starts in 2022, he's 2-3 with a 4.83 ERA. That mirrors his career record, as he's 38-38 with a 4.84 ERA in 133 career appearances (107 starts). Since losing 2-1 to Detroit on May 29, the Guardians have outscored teams 67-44 and have not scored fewer than three runs in a game. Bieber over Senzatela is a 'no-brainer,' so I'll back Bieber in his first-ever Coors Field start.
Good luck...Larry
