Belmont Park Picks for June 25, 2022 – Horse Racing Betting Tips

It’s a stakes day on Saturday and the biggest race isn’t where you think it is this afternoon. The feature for today is at Thistledown in Ohio. The $500,000 Ohio Derby (Gr. 3) is the biggest event on the calendar.
    Ohio Derby Feature
Thistledown is best known for low-tier racing during the week. However, today it’s their day with the running of the Ohio Derby.

I’m going to pass on Thistledown this afternoon and get back to Belmont Park after a profitable day on Friday. Belmont has two stakes races, with the $250,000 Mother Goose Stakes (Gr. 2) their leading evening. Head below for our best Belmont Park picks on June 25, 2022.

Race 2 is an $80,000 event covering 1 ⅛ mile in the inner turf. Look at New Ginya and Rheaume to get into the mix at the wire.

New Ginya has finished 1st and 2nd in two career events. In her latest attempt, New Ginya finished 4th in an $80,000 assignment on May 30.

That was a tough start after New Ginya started off her career with a win on November 18. The filly defeated Saratoga Chrome by a neck as a rookie in a $70,000 race.

Rheaume has finished 1st and 2nd in two career starts. She is likely to give a big bid in this one.

Rheaume opened her career on April 28 in a $75,000 event by 2 lengths. Impressive outing to begin a career.

She came back on May 30 to place 2nd behind Out of Sight by 4 lengths in an $80,000 race. New Ginya was a neck and nose length behind Rheaume.

Expect a close one, with Rheaume edging out a win.

    Purse: $250,000

The $250,000 Mother Goose Stakes is a Grade 2 event covering 1 1/16 miles on the dirt. Shahama and Juju’s Map should get involved in the stretch trip.

Shahama finished 6th, 1st, 1st, 1st, 1st in the first five races of his career. She was in top form overseas at Meydan Racecourse.

Shahama won four straight races, with a win most recently on February 18 in the U.A.E. Oaks (Gr. 3). Her first run in the US didn’t go according to plan, though.

She was 6th in the $1,250,000 Kentucky Oaks (Gr. 1) on May 6. Despite the loss, that’s a tough field and Shahama showed interest late with improvement.

Juju’s Map is 3 for 5 with a Grade 1 win on her resume for Brad Cox. She won the $400,000 Darley Alcibiades Stakes (Gr. 1) over Distinctlypossible by 4

Al Cimaglia: Meadowlands Late Pick 4 Analysis

        June 25, 2022 | By Al Cimaglia

The Meadowlands has a 14-race card scheduled with 4-year-olds taking center stage in Graduate Series action. The 0.50 Late Pick 4 begins in Race 11. The sequence has a $50,000 guaranteed pool, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

        Race 11

5-Linedrive Hanover (4-1)-Betting Line 4-year-old didn't race last year and has come back strong winning 11 of 14 starts in 2022. Battled the red-hot Jimmy Freight in the Gold Cup and will look for another big try in his M1 debut.
6-Bulldog Hanover (5/2)-It doesn't seem to matter where or what size oval Bulldog battles and wins more than his share. Has won 13 of the last 19, also makes his Big M debut and is razor sharp.

        Race 12

1-Pink Coco Chanel (3-1)-Dunn is in the bike once again and the trip won't be worse than last week. Started from post 9, was parked the mile and was beaten by only a 1/2 length. Looking for another big try and a more favorable journey.
5-Peyton Hanover (7/2)-Recent form has been dull but Tetrick grabs the lines tonight and he has posed with this well-bred filly. Needs a more determined effort but comes back in sequence for a change and this is a ++ driver change so will look for improvement.

        Race 13

1-Somebaddude (4-1)-This 7-year-old gets the services of Tetrick and has won 8 of 31 starts at M1. Returns to East Rutherford and should race near the top of the stack so best to not overlook.
2-Shake That House (3-1)-Won at this level and then was bumped up, drew the 8 post and that didn't work well. Was off 2 weeks before the last start and had a dull try. Now drops back to the level of the last win and picks-up Dunn, should be a main player.

        Race 14

4-Theflyingrock (3-1)-Takes on better after posting 2 wins in 1.50 and 149.2 at Phl. Gingras steers, which should help this Per Engblom trainee who could be a good one.
5-Leon David (4-1)-Gets a positive driver change in Mark MacDonald, takes a meaningful drop and could offer a square price. This smells like a drop, and pop situation.

        0.50 Late Pick 4

        5,6/1,5/1,2/4,5
        Total Bet=$8

          Jeff Siegel's National Best Plays - June 25, 2022

          June 25, 2022

          Jeff Siegel’s National Best Plays

Churchill Downs – Second Race. Post time: 1:14 ET
          6-Key of Life (2-1)

Blistered a quarter mile in 9 4/5 seconds at the OBS April sale and looked terrific doing it, after which the daughter of the freshman stallion Mo Town (stud fee $7,500) brought $350,00 through the ring. Since then, the powerful-looking juvenile shows a steady, healthy series of workouts leading up to her debut for a barn that hits at a solid 19% with first times starters. This appears to be a stronger than par race for the level but if she breaks with her field, the Brad Cox-trained filly should justify her 2-1 morning line price.

Churchill Downs – Nine race. Post time: 4:55 ET
          2-Pennybaker (8-1)

The Chicago Stakes is a Grade-3 extended sprint for older fillies and mares but on paper looks very much like a Grade-1 affair, what with the likes of Sconsin, Bell’s the One, and Lady Rocket among those in the lineup. Pennybaker, though unproven at the level and listed at 8-1 on the morning line, could easily be this good. The daughter of Medaglia d’Oro won her last four starts in France with rising Timeform Ratings and then was extremely impressive when capturing the listed Heavenly Cause Stakes in her U.S. debut at Laurel Park in-mid April. She hasn’t missed a beat in the morning since, so at the price the Michael Stidham-trained filly is worth a play in the win pool and in the various rolling exotics.

Belmont Park – Sixth race. Post time: 3:34 ET
          1-Chiromante (6-1)

This second-time starter offers a reasonable gamble at 6-1 in this maiden special weight turf router for fillies and mares. The Irish-bred 3-year-old walked out of the gate and fell far back in her debut at Churchill Downs last month, was asked for run entering the lane and despite racing greenly closed a good gap to be fourth, beaten just over two lengths, in an outing that she seems certain build upon. The Brendan Walsh-trained daughter of Caravaggio picks up Jose Ortiz, lands the rail, and with any type of forward move should be a major player in a below standard race for the level.

Monmouth Park – Eleventh Race. Post time: 4:47 ET
          6-Bout Time (4-1)

Lightly-raced and improving with each race, the daughter of Not This Time has found her niche as a turf sprinter and looks to verify her impressive allowance win at Churchill Downs in this listed stakes for fillies and mares. Lightly-raced (four starts) but with excellent tactical speed and a quick turn of foot, the Cherie DeVaux-trained four-year-old projects to enjoy an ideal pace-pressing trip and then have every chance to go on with it when given her cue. This will be her toughest race to date, but at 4-1 on the morning line she’s worth a play.

Race of the Week: Ohio Derby at Thistledown | Saturday, June 25

            June 22, 2022 | By Jeremy Plonk

            The Lead:
The spotlight burned up to, and through, the Triple Crown makes Saturday's $500,000 Ohio Derby an event keen on the minds of fans and horseplayers. Half of the 8 runners here passed the entry box for the Kentucky Derby, including a trio of eventual starters. The 1-1/8 miles Ohio Derby anchors an 11-race card as the finale, following a highly anticipated running of the $250,000 Lady Jacqueline Stakes with a strong national cast of distaff division raiders.

Those betting the Ohio Derby with 1/ST BET and Xpressbet can enjoy a $10 money-back special promotion. If your win bet finishes second or third, you'll be refunded up to $10 on your wager.

            Field Depth:
WHITE ABARRIO has the field's signature Grade 1 victory in the Florida Derby. CLASSIC CAUSEWAY is a Grade 2 winner, while TAWNY PORT has Grade 3-winning credentials. ETHERIAL ROAD is a stakes winner and Grade 2-placed. WHITE ABARRIO has kept the strongest company lines overall an rates an edge in the class department.

            Pace:
CLASSIC CAUSEWAY should be prominent from the start with PINEAPPLE MAN. The second flight likely consists of BRIGADIER GENERAL and BARESE. The tempo looks honest for 1-1/8 miles and open to the best horse delivering a victory not necessitating to be aided by pace.

            Our Eyes:
WHITE ABARRIO has been Gulfstream's kingpin, unbeaten in 4 starts in Hallandale. But his 2 roadtrips to Churchill Downs proved disappointments at age 2 and 3. Its uncertain whether he's a horse-for-course, travel averse or simply less-than-his-best at Churchill Downs. The answer likely lies at the finish line Saturday in Ohio. At what figures to be a short price, the gamble-against will be my approach as two out of those three scenarios stack against victory.

CLASSIC CAUSEWAY knows only one way to success, and that's going to the front. The X-factor becomes the barn switch from Brian Lynch to Kenny McPeek. The new barn is more well known for its stamina and finishers, rarely in possession of a horse with devastating early action. Jockey Brian Hernandez was proficient on the front end with Fort Larned back in his heyday, so he's a rider who can handle speed. While I expect an improved effort from the last few after going off form, he's never indicated that 1-1/8 miles would be his best trip.

TAWNY PORT looks to continue a super post-Triple Crown run for trainer Brad Cox with the sophomores. Two weeks ago, Cyberknife bounced out of the Derby to win the Matt Winn at Churchill. Last week, Oaklawn Stakes winner Home Brew returned to capture Monmouth's Haskell prep, the Pegasus Stakes. TAWNY PORT was a better-than-expected seventh in the Kentucky Derby. His prior starts in the Jeff Ruby and Lexington Stakes have proven key events with Rich Strike exiting the former to win the Kentucky Derby, and Ohio Derby rival ETHEREAL ROAD exited the Lexington to win Pimlico's Sir Barton.

            Most Certain Exotics Contender:
TAWNY PORT has that often-key bullet workout 2 drills before the engagement and his barn is humming right now.

            Best Longshot Exotics Contender:
BARESE pressed the pace in the Wood Memorial before running a decent race in hindsight as that event produced the Preakness (Early Voting) and Belmont (Mo Donegal) winners. Stretching back out from the rail with a good speed jockey in Kendrick Carmouche intrigues ... but the 9-2 morning line price must be increased to consider a win bet.

            Sending it in ($100 bankroll):
$90 win TAWNY PORT. $10 exacta TAWNY PORT over BARESE.

Jon White: Pacific Classic is the Plan for Flightline

              June 22, 2022 | By Jon White

Trainer John Sadler said last Sunday that “the tentative plan” for superstar Flightline is for him to make his next start in Del Mar’s $1 million Pacific Classic. The Grade I event will be run on Sept. 3.

“Anything can change,” Sadler added during his interview with Mike Willman on the radio program Thoroughbred Los Angeles. “You never know what’s going to happen…But right now the plan is to get to the Pacific Classic, right in our backyard.”

If Flightline does indeed start next in the Pacific Classic, the top-ranked Thoroughbred in the land will be asked to travel 1 1/4 miles, farther than he has ever been asked to race.

Flightline is unbeaten in four career starts. The Kentucky-bred Tapit colt, a $1 million purchase at public auction, won a pair of six-furlong races by 13 1/4 and 12 3/4 lengths prior to an 11 1/2-length tour de force in Santa Anita’s Grade I Malibu Stakes at seven furlongs last Dec. 26.

In his only 2022 start to date, Flightline overcame early adversity to win the Grade I Met Mile by six lengths on June 11.

Flavien Prat has been aboard Flightline in all four races.

“Prat got off him the other day and said more distance is going to be better for him,” Sadler said.

Oh, my. If more distance is indeed going to be better for Flightline, then how will anybody ever beat him?

“We’re confident about him going into the Pacific Classic,” Sadler continued. “I’ve got plenty of time to train him the way that I want to train him.”

Sadler, without hesitation, says Flightline is the best horse he has ever trained. That would include Melair and Accelerate.

Melair won all five of her races. In one of the finest performances by a 3-year-old filly that I have ever witnessed, her front-running victory against males in Hollywood Park’s Grade II Silver Screen Handicap in 1986 was breathtaking. She won by 6 1/2 lengths while completing one mile in 1:32.80, the fastest time for the distance ever posted by a filly or mare on dirt.

Southern Halo finished second in the field of 12. Snow Chief ended up third as the 3-5 favorite, 11 lengths behind Melair. Snow Chief would go on to be voted a 1986 Eclipse Award as champion 3-year-old male. Going into the Silver Screen, Snow Chief that year had won the Florida Derby, Santa Anita Derby, Preakness Stakes and Jersey Derby.

Accelerate was a four-time Grade I winner at 1 1/4 miles for Sadler, taking the Santa Anita Handicap, Gold Cup at Santa Anita, Pacific Classic and Breeders’ Cup Classic at Churchill Downs.

Voted a 2018 Eclipse Award as champion older dirt male, Accelerate had a lifetime top Beyer Speed Figure of 115, which he received for his 12 1/2-length triumph in the 2018 Pacific Classic.

Flightline has been a triple-digit machine in the Beyer Speed Figure department for owners Hronis Racing, Siena Farm, Summer Wind Equine, West Point Thoroughbreds and Woodford Racing. After being credited with a 105 Beyer at first asking, Flightline has recorded figures of 114, 118 and 112. His 118 in the Malibu was the highest Beyer of 2021 and better than any of Accelerate’s figs.

Andy Beyer, father of the Beyer Speed Figures, has said that he believes Flightline is the best American horse since Ghostzapper, the 2004 Horse of the Year.

Willman asked Sadler if the plan is for the Breeders’ Cup Classic to be Flightline’s last dance before he goes off to stud.

“No, not necessarily at all,” Sadler responded. “Since he didn’t get a race at 2, we’ll leave that decision to the end of the year. But there’s nothing written in stone. They’re certainly thinking about bringing him back next year. You’ll know that at the end of year. But I’m hoping that he’ll come back and run next year.”

So do I, John. So do I.

              LATEST NTRA TOP THOROUGHBRED POLL

Flightline tops this week’s NTRA Top Thoroughbred Poll after moving into the No. 1 position last week following his impressive Met Mile victory.

Hot Rod Charlie drops a couple of notches to No. 7 this week after losing Monmouth Park’s Grade III Salvator Mile by a head to Mind Control last Saturday at the end of a fierce stretch battle between those two.

The Top 10 on the NTRA Top Thoroughbred Poll this week is below:

              Rank Points Horse (First-Place Votes)

              1. 300 Flightline (24)
              2. 240 Country Grammer (6)
              3. 217 Jackie’s Warrior
              3. 217 Life Is Good (1)
              5. 134 Olympiad
              6. 85 Clairiere
              7. 78 Hot Rod Charlie
              8. 76 Letruska
              9. 73 Regal Glory
              10. 63 Speaker’s Corner

              HOW GOOD IS INSPIRAL?

For those keeping an eye on what’s happening on the other side of the pond, as they say, there have been a number of terrific performances.

Desert Crown, with just two races under his belt, managed to win the historic 1 1/2-mile Cazoo Derby at Epsom Downs by 2 1/4 lengths on June 4. It was his first Group I victory.

Baaeed, regarded by many as the best Thoroughbred on the planet, is eight for eight after winning the Group I Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot on June 14.

Also on June 14 at Royal Ascot, the outstanding Australian sprinter Nature Strip made a mockery of 15 foes when dashing home a 4 1/2-length winner in the Group I King’s Stand Stakes. Golden Pal typically blasts away out of a gate, but his race was over before it started this time, thanks to jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. being asleep at the switch.

When the starter pushed the button, Ortiz was looking back toward Mondammej, who was still behind the gate. Mondammej refused to load and was scratched. Ortiz was not aware that in England, a race can begin with a scratched horse standing behind the gate.

Golden Pal, a two-time Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint winner, now is 6 for 6 when racing on the turf in the U.S. but 0 for 3 in England. His only defeat in this country came when he finished second on the dirt at Gulfstream Park in his career debut in 2020.

Does trainer John Gosden have another Enable in Inspiral? It sure looks like that’s a possibility after Inspiral’s smashing 2022 debut, a 4 3/4-length victory in the Group I Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot on June 17.

Inspiral is now five for five.

Enable won 15 of 19 career starts while earning $14,062,824. She won the prestigious Group I Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in 2017 and 2018. Enable came to America and captured the Grade I Breeders’ Cup Turf at Churchill Downs in 2018.

              A FIRST-RATE TRAINING JOB

Before trainer Neil Drysdale hung out his shingle, he was an assistant to the legendary Charlie Whittingham, who won Santa Anita’s marathon San Juan Capistrano Handicap (now Stakes) a record 14 times. That truly was remarkable.

Whittingham was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1974. Drysdale became a member in 2000.

Drysdale won his fifth San Juan Capistrano when he sent out Breakpoint, who led past every pole in the about 1 3/4-mile test of endurance. Breakpoint took the Grade III affair by a head at odds of 9-1. Tyler Baze rode the 5-year-old Chilean-bred son of Constitution.

As Drysdale noted afterward, it was a “masterful ride” on the part of Baze.

But this also was splendid job of training on the part of Drysdale inasmuch as Breakpoint had not started since finishing 11th in Keeneland’s Grade III Sycamore Stakes last Oct. 22.

Drysdale’s achievement to win the San Juan Capistrano with a horse coming off such a layoff was the type of thing Whittingham did on multiple occasions.

Prior to Breakpoint, Drysdale had won the San Juan Capistrano with Single Empire in 1999, Sunshine Street in 2000 and Bourbon Bay in 2010 and 2012.

A COMEBACK HALF A CENTURY AGO

It was 50 years ago this month that Pacific Northwest racing legend Turbulator returned to the races after missing all of 1971 due to a suspensory injury.

Turbulator took racing in the Pacific Northwest by storm in 1969 and 1970.

In the fall of 1969, Turbulator won seven straight races at Spokane’s Playfair Race Course at distances ranging from six furlongs to two miles. He became the most popular horse ever to race there.

In the spring of 1970, Turbulator smashed the track record by four-fifths of a second when he won the Yakima Mile by 3 1/2 lengths at Yakima Meadows.

In the summer of 1970, Turbulator became the most popular horse to ever race at Longacres near Seattle. He broke the world record for 6 1/2 furlongs by two-fifths of a second and a track record also by two-fifths.

In the fall of 1970, Turbulator returned to Playfair as a conquering hero. He came from 20 lengths behind to win a one-mile race by two lengths while carrying 134 pounds. And in his final 1970 start, he was asked to tote a whopping 138 pounds in the Playfair Mile, which he lost by a neck when finishing second to Ruler’s Whirl, who carried 121.

When Turbulator did not make a single start in 1971, his legion of fans wondered if he would ever race again.

But the headline in the June 16, 1972, Daily Racing Form said: Turbulator Makes Seasonal Bow in Friday’s Longacres Feature

A portion of the DRF story is below:

“LONGACRES RACE TARCK, Renton, Wash., June 15-- Farnsworth and Crawford Estate’s Turbulator, Washington Horse of the Year in 1970, will make his first start in nearly two years Friday when he heads a strong field of seven older runners in the $3,500 Chetzemoka Purse at 6 1/2 furlongs. The most popular horse to ever run in this area, Turbulator drew a weight of assignment of 116 pounds for his return and will be handled by regular rider Larry Pierce.

“Turbulator, forced to the sidelines by suspensory trouble, will be attempting to regain the winning form which he displayed in winning seven of 14 starts, all of them stakes, in 1970.”

Tom Crawford, who had bred, trained and co-owned the Cold Command gelding, died on Feb. 27, 1972. Leonard Roberts then took over as Turbulator’s trainer in 1972.

In 1969 and 1970, Turbulator never raced with front bandages. From 1972 until his retirement in 1974, he always raced with them.

Turbulator finished last in his 1972 debut when obviously in dire need of the race. One week later, he showed improvement and ran third in another 6 1/2-furlong allowance contest at Longacres. He would go on to win three races in 1972, highlighted by a thrilling come-from-behind victory in the Washington Championship at Longacres on Sept. 11. Turbulator roared home from 11 lengths off the pace to win the 1 1/16-mile race by a half-length. He had to run down a razor-sharp tough foe in Grey Papa, who just 10 days earlier had sped six furlongs in 1:07 1/5 to break the world record for what is probably the most often used distance in American racing.

When Turbulator won the 1972 Washington Championship, his final time was 1:41 2/5, which was just two-fifths off the track record. And who held that track record? It was none other than Turbulator, who had set the mark with a ridiculously easy four-length victory under 128 pounds in 1970.

                Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

                Hawthorne - Race #8
                Picks Notes
#1 Beach Holiday He will try the turf for the first time after a graduation win over the synthetic at Presque Isle, and he has a pretty big pedigree that might help him handle the new footing. Tactical trip from the inside at a price?
#2 Draft Capital Only trying to beat him off the bench here, as he owns multiple running lines that would best this group, so the hope is that he's going to need one to kick off a summer campaign.
#9 Path to Success He ran pretty well in that March turf try at Fair Grounds, and I'm wondering if there's a chance he can get back to that kind of effort here and bounce back at a price. Wonder if he took a couple steps back off the maiden win. Interesting.
Race Summary Beach Holiday got over the top last out to finally land the maiden win, and I'm interested to see how he handles the turf here, having had some success on synthetic footing. Draft Capital hits hard with anything like his best.

                Hawthorne - Race #9
                Picks Notes
#7 Maryhadalittlelam She's worth a price look in here after graduating at first asking, and while she needs to come forward off that win to land this one, there isn't anything serious to be afraid of in this race, and she may offer another nice price.
#4 Stormy Empire Her inability to seal the deal from good spots is the only blight on the form, but she's super consistent and probably shows up with another good effort. Worry that she's overbet and finds one or two of these too good again.
#6 Go Madi Go Her lack of early pace is a bit of a concern, but she finished with some energy in both of her downstate starts and took a big step forward last time out. Not out of it.
Race Summary Maryhadalittlelam has some upside with just the one start to her credit, and she's interesting while rising to face a modest enough group of winners today.

                Hawthorne - Race #10
                Picks Notes
#11 Viewers Discretion He finished behind today's likely chalk in the debut, but he has plenty of room to come forward for a capable team. Draw is a little tough, but I'm hoping Bowen finds a place to tuck in midpack.
#6 Trail Ridge Road This team has been breeding good ones for years, and she has plenty of turf pedigree to handle this route trip on debut. Get a look on the track and tote, but I bet she's ready.
#10 Wanda Strong She still has work to do, but it was nice to see her come forward in that first career turf try, which wasn't a total shock as her mom liked the lawn. She should get a decent trip from a tactical spot while offering a good price. Class will be the test.
Race Summary Feels like there are a few different ways to go, with capable players like #9 Take Joy and #8 Western Skies not even listed. Viewers Discretion has upside off the debut run, but she'll need to step things up as she's meeting a few solid runners and an interesting debuter.

#5 BILLY LINCOLN N In good form cycle, faces better, price attached.
#3 JUST BOOK ‘EM Classy 7-year-old sustained rally to just miss at this level.
#4 TOOT TOOT N Won twice under these conditions in May.
Race Summary Billy Lincoln N was flushed out of third on the final turn, ran a scare into the 2-to-5 winner and continued strong on the gallop out. He steps up in class tonight but could be double-digit odds. Play a 3-4-5 exacta box.

                  Meadowlands - Race #13
                  Picks Notes
#6 HAIL CHRISTIAN N Right ingredients for an upset, use in all gimmick wagers.
#2 SHAKE THAT HOUSE Opened a commanding lead and won the last time he tested this level.
#1 SOMEBADDUDE Urged early, yielded to odds-on winner, went down fighting.
Race Summary Hail Christian N gets class relief, a projected lively pace to rally into and a driver upgrade. He’s worth a win and place bet in a deep field at 8-1 on the morning line.

                  Yonkers - Race #2
                  Picks Notes
#2 MACINTOSH N Eye-catching late burst to win while closers swarmed in.
#1 OURRHYTHMNBLUES N Can turn tables on rivals who beat him with good stalking trip from rail.
#7 DARK ENERGY N Rallied first-over to stretch leads in last pair, just missed, claimed again.
Race Summary Macintosh N, content to track the speedy favorite in the pocket, got off the rail just in time as the leader back-pedaled in the stretch. He exploded with a clear path in front of him and out-kicked the closers. He draws favorably again and is taken to repeat.

                        # 3 ATHWAAQ 12/1
                        # 6 BOUT TIME 4/1
                        # 4 ROBIN SPARKLES 9/2
I think ATHWAAQ is a quite good pick especially at a long price. BOUT TIME - Put up a formidable speed figure last time out. This entrant has been consistently running well as of late. ROBIN SPARKLES - In this field, this entrant is prominent in earnings per start in turf sprint contests. Change in Lasix (with second time Lasix) may be the recipe to a return to the track.

                          Belmont Park - Race #4 - Post: 2:34pm - Maiden Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $37,000 Class Rating: 72

                          Rating:

                          #4 JET SET JULIET (ML=4/1)

JET SET JULIET - When Gomez and Rodriguez unite on horses the return on investment has been fantastic at +85. Rider jumped on this filly's back for the initial time on May 27th. Should be acquainted with the animal even better in today's contest. Rodriguez moves this filly to the dirt today. Look for a chance at a big improvement from the most recent grass race.

Vulnerable Contenders: #7 LADY YELLEN (ML=2/1), #5 DARN THAT SONG (ML=5/2), #3 DANCING ROSALIE (ML=7/2),

LADY YELLEN - This chalk horse hasn't visited the track in awhile. No works since last race. DARN THAT SONG - Today's race is 6 furlongs. Hasn't hit the board in a sprint contest in the last two months. Not the greatest of signs. DANCING ROSALIE - Doesn't appear to be worth 7/2 today. Pass on her this time.

GUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - JET SET JULIET - Getting Lasix for the second time. While teaching at grad school I did a lot of research on this, and my data proves fillys run much better the 2nd time. Don't pass over this one.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Go with #4 JET SET JULIET on top if we're getting at least 1/1 odds
                          EXACTA WAGERS: Pass

LUNAR NEW YEAR is my pick especially at 10/1. QUALITY COMMAND - Reyes has been hot the last month, winning at a nifty 28 percent rate. With Reyes in the saddle guiding her, this filly should be able to break out early for this event. DRILL BABY DRILL - Has posted sound speed figures in dirt sprint races in the past. Horses who have been prepared to race at this distance and surface by Snow have shown very solid results recently.

                                Emerald Downs - Race #8 - Post: 5:40pm - Maiden Claiming - 5.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $10,000 Class Rating: 72

                                Rating:

                                #4 FANTASTIC DREAM (ML=10/1)
                                #6 DARK N' HANDSOME (ML=9/5)
                                #5 FEATHER INTHE WIND (ML=7/2)

FANTASTIC DREAM - Has discovered a soft spot today. DARK N' HANDSOME - Many positive 'vibes' joined to this racer and his brain trust. FEATHER INTHE WIND - Have to like the way Navarro has raced this filly back into shape off the layoff. Horse is well spotted in this sprint and I think she'll run well today. Have to make this filly a solid contender; she comes off a strong race on June 11th. This filly likes to be near the lead. Today's race is a shorter distance and should promote her chances of winning. Horse has improved at least two Equibase speed fig points in last two races. I look for that to continue its positive trend in this event. This filly is tops in earnings per race. Give the once over to this horse in the saddling enclosure.

                                Vulnerable Contenders: #7 C JAXON (ML=5/1), #1 LOVE THAT KID (ML=6/1), #8 PERFECT BLEND (ML=6/1),

C JAXON - This horse just hasn't looked ready of late. Not probable for this one to do much running with no recent success in a short distance event. Unlikely that the speed rating he earned on June 10th will be enough in this affair. LOVE THAT KID - The Brain always cautions me to keep away from thoroughbreds in short distance contests that haven't finished in the money in short distance affairs lately. I'd like to see more preferred recent outings with oddsmaker's morning line of 6/1. PERFECT BLEND - The rating last out doesn't fit very well in this race when I look at the Equibase class figure of today's event. Mark this mount as a likely underpriced equine.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - FANTASTIC DREAM - This is an automatic bet for me. This gelding is the top TM Power-rated horse and his rating towers over the rest.
