MLB | Reds vs Cubs
Play on: Cubs -113 at circa
My free play is on the Chi Cubs at 8:05 ET.
The Brewers and Cardinals were expected to battle for the NL Central title in 2022 and that is what has played out as the season approaches July 4th. The Reds were coming off an 83-79 season in 2021 and likely had some hopes of joining the Brewers and Cards in the 2022 division 'fight' but there was "No Joy in Wrigleyville" entering 2022, as the Cubs were coming off a 71-91 season. Cincy's dreadful 3-22 start basically 'killed' the Reds' 2022 plans, while the Cubbies dipped below .500 with a loss on April (6-7) and have remained a sub-.500 team since. The two bottom-dwellers in the NL Central open a three-game series tonight in Wrigley. The 25-47 Reds are 13-24 on the road, while the 28-45 Cubs are 13-25 at home. That said, ONE team HAS to win tonight!
Luis Castillo (2-4, 3.71 ERA) will take the mound for the Reds, while the Cubs counter with Keegan Thompson (7-2, 3.10 ERA). Castillo was 15-8 in 2019 but is coming off a 2021 season in which he was 8-16 in 33 starts. The Reds were 11-22 in those starts, giving Castillo the worst moneyline mark of ANY starter (-$1,265). Castillo missed spring training and the first 28 games with a right shoulder strain and didn't make his 2022 debut until May 9. This is only his ninth start of the current season, and he takes the mound 0-2 with a 4.07 ERA in four June starts (Reds are 0-4!). Thompson pitched 53.1 innings last season (32 appearances) but has been the 'star' of Chicago's pitching staff in 2022. He's made 16 appearances, including six starts. He's struggled on the road with a 5.40 ERA and BAA of .280 but at home, his ERA is 1.50 and BAA is .176.
Cubs Win! Cubs Win!
Good luck...Larry
