**Most Likely: Tarabi #7 (Race 7)**
**Best Value: Tiberius Mercurius #7 (Race 3)**

Most Likely Winner: (Race 7: Tarabi #7, 5/2):

A daughter of First Samurai, this 3-yr-old filly for trainer Cherie DeVaux has solid ability, top to bottom. She took on Echo Zulu last year at Saratoga in the Spinaway (G1), and did not fair too badly (she also shipped to face her at Del Mar in the BC Juvenile Fillies (G1). That was a tall order, and it is great to see her return. With a ’22 start already in the books at Churchill, she deserves to be the favorite against a group like this one. She exudes class, and I like that her conditioner is sticking with regular rider Javier Castellano. I predict that she will be on or 1-2 off-the-lead. If she can do that, then DeVaux should head to the winner’s circle.

              Wagering Recommendation: $100 Win, #7

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 3: Tiberius Mercurius #7, 6/1):

The Saratoga price on this opening Thursday is a gem of a turf runner from Mike Maker’s midst. Last year at The SPA, the Kentucky-based conditioner came out of the blocks fast … winning at a nice clip. He can get hot again with this son of The Factor, a sire that handles grass routes quite well. The addition of Luis Saez makes this one an even more inviting wager. Saez and Maker can do some damage, and dropping this one into a spot like this makes a ton of sense. I think 6/1 on the tote would be a gift …

              Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #7 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

              Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 9: Dirt, 6F, Schuylerville S. (G3), $175k, 2F):

This year’s edition of the Schuylerville S. came up particularly tough, especially with such a tepid favorite like Eddie Kenneally’s Just Cindy #1. A filly by Justify (yes, his crop has arrived), she is going to try and build off of that stalking win she had at Churchill Downs in a MSW120k in mid-June. With Irad Ortiz aboard, it is certainly possible, but there are some better options drawn-in here. If you are looking for a top selection, then do not negate the budding ability of Mark Casse’s Adora #3 (btw, he has 3 entered for this race). Even though she broke her maiden 1st time out on the AW at Woodbine, there was much to like. Not only was she “ridden out,” but her breaking ability from the post was excellent … despite being challenged. Having Dylan Davis in the irons is a smart move, after he finished a close 2nd to Ortiz for the Belmont riding title. If this one is quick, and can handle the stretch out to 6-furlongs, then she could be the victor. Having Into Mischief in your blood isn’t a terrible thing either. One other runner that has some gas in the tank is D. Wayne Lukas’ Summer Promise #9. Owned by BC Stables, this filly by Uncle Mo was a $500k purchase at the Keeneland September Sale last year. She turned some heads on debut under the Twin Spires, and expect jockey Luis Saez to put her on-the-lead early. “The Coach,” as Lukas is known, is back at The SPA, and he still has the fire-in-the-belly to collect stakes victories. Here is the wager for what looks to be an ultra-competitive contest!

Wagering Recommendation: $2 Trifecta Cold, 3/1/9

Spa selections 2022: Saratoga picks July 14

                by Joseph Aiello

In Spa Selections, Saratoga on-site correspondent Joseph Aiello provides Saratoga picks for a handful of key races at Saratoga, including all of the exciting stakes action!

                Race 7 – Wilton Stakes

                1. #6 Favor (7-2) – Gets some class relief here and should be a better price than this, but breaking well will be key as she needs to be close to the front to have a chance

                2. #7 Tarabi (5-2) – Hasn’t been the best finisher in her short career, but ran into Echo Zulu twice last year and seems like the most consistent runner of the group

                3. #4 Angitude (8-1) – Better value than Goddess of Fire, and appears to have some upside in stretching out to this distance and controlling the pace, plus has strong connections

                Race 8 – OC 80000n1x

                1. #11 Wonka (9-2) – Tough post, but drops from a grade III and has run well in all three of her starts, should be closing here

                2. #3 Myriskyaffair (7-2) – Clement and Rosario are always tough to pass up on the turf, and even with this one missing wins a few times, still drops from a grade II and will be in a good spot

                3. #2 Bravo Kitten (8-1) – An interesting filly who takes blinkers off so she may need a bit more pace in this tightly contested field, but ran well against allowance company at Kenneland

Race 9 – Grade III Schuylerville Stakes

                1. #1 Just Cindy (5-2) – This filly by Justify might end up getting the right set up as she and Janis Joplin were the only two to come from off the lead first time out which is a plus in this field

                2. #9 Summer Promise (3-1) – Comes off a great bullet work which shows she is in top form after an easy win, and will be vying for the lead in this one

                3. #6 Me and My Shadow (7-2) – Usually don’t love picking horses switching from an artificial surface to dirt, but this one was sharp in her debut and can win if she gets away easy

                Race 10 – Clm 35000n2L

                1. #6 Abuse of Power (5-2) – Drops in class but gets the nod over some others purely because of his potential to close into what could be a torrid pace

                2. #10 Dame Time (6-1) – Seems to be in good form and doesn’t necessarily need to break first to be a factor, so Trevor McCarthy would be smart to place this filly off the leaders early

                3. #5 Fast Corey (7-2) – Magniloquent will have a difficult time keeping up with this filly by Practical Joke who probably won’t win with this running style, but could hang on for third

TimeformUS Saratoga Horses in Focus for Thursday, July 14, 2022
                  David Aragona

                  RACE 4: AFJAN (#7)

Likely favorite #3 Remote appears to be putting things together as the distances increase. He dropped his jockey at the start two back, but quite professionally ran around the track riderless, finishing alongside winner Balthus. He managed to run a proper race with a jockey last time, making an early move off cover to contest the pace into the turn before getting overhauled by a Chad Brown trainee in the stretch. He’s logical, but I just wonder if he’ll get overbet going out for the potent duo of Christophe Clement and Joel Rosario. I’m most interested in a couple of Kentucky shippers as the alternatives. One of those is #8 Good Soldier. He appeared to take a step forward with the switch to grass last time, working out a fantastic trip from post 12. He was staying on well in the late stages, and he’s bred to stretch out. His dam is a half-sister to John’s Call (1 5/8 miles) winner Summer Patriot, as well as 12-furlong Laurel Turf Cup winner St. Alban's Boy. My top pick is #7 Afjan. It’s a little curious that this guy hasn’t yet gotten a chance on turf. Uncle Mo is a solid turf influence and the dam won on turf, finishing second in both the Grade 1 Chandelier on synthetic and the Grade 2 Honeymoon on grass. The best sibling to race is Group 3 turf winner Toro Strike, who primarily ran overseas. Yet Todd Pletcher ran this horse on dirt, and even Mike Maker kept him on dirt after Three Diamonds purchased him for $210k in April. Maker is a solid 15 for 96 (16%, $2.71 ROI) with maidens switching to turf for the first time over the past five years. He looks like one who should relish both the surface switch and added distance. He also could play out as one of the speeds in a race lacking pace.

                  RACE 8: CUSTOMER LIST (#6)

This N1X allowance affair has attracted a wide-open field of 3-year-old fillies, including a couple of dangerous Clement runners drawn towards the inside. #3 Myriskyaffair obviously kept good company in her last race, finishing second to Consumer Spending, who just rallied for third last weekend’s Grade 1 Belmont Oaks. She’s yet to win on the turf, but has run well in both of her starts on the surface. She’s perfectly logical, but I’m more intrigued by Clement’s other runner #1 Canisy. She was a bit of a surprise when she won her debut at 15-1 in May, upsetting a couple of highly regarded Brown trainees. She lost her second start at this level last month, but was unlucky, as she got stymied behind a wall of traffic for much of the stretch drive before shaking free too late. She figures to get a better trip from her advantageous rail draw this time and is arguably the one to beat. I’m taking a shot against these two with #6 Customer List. She’s coming off a poor effort in her return at Penn National last month, but she clearly didn’t handle the boggy turf course that day after stumbling at the start. She showed real promise in her lone appearance as a 2-year-old, inhaling an overmatched group to win her debut at Monmouth Park. This daughter of Wootton Bassett still has upside as she makes her second start off the layoff, and I’m encouraged that Brown is running here with four encouraging turf works showing since that return.

                  RACE 9: ADORA (#3)

There is a ton of early speed signed on in the Schuylerville, which should help the case of #1 Just Cindy. This daughter of Triple Crown winner Justify did not disappoint at 6-5 in her debut. She got a little keen early, but just rolled home on the outside once steered into the clear. The victory was even more impressive due to the fact she closed into a slow pace. Eddie Kenneally is 3 for 7 (43%, $2.40 ROI) with last-out debut winners making their second starts in dirt sprints over five years. She’s the horse to beat, but there are many other promising runners to consider. The Impeccably bred #9 Summer Promise is out of Grade 1 Apple Blossom winner Dream of Summer, making her a half-sister to Grade 1 winners Vexatious and Creative Cause, as well as Belmont Stakes runner-up Destin. Despite that stamina-oriented pedigree, she showed plenty of speed on debut. She’s wheeling back in just 19 days, but it doesn’t seem like that first race should have taken too much out of her. The bigger concern is the sheer volume of early speed in this field, as she may be forced to stalk from the outside. Mark Casse has entered a trio of runners, including impressive Woodbine debut winner #6 Me and My Shadow. Yet I’m most intrigued by his other Woodbine shipper, #3 Adora. This expensive yearling purchase broke sharply from the outside and dueled early before drawing clear impressively in her debut. I liked the way she dealt with a contested pace, which she will face again here. Mark Casse is 4 for 12 (33%, $2.59 ROI) with last-out maiden winners going from synthetic to dirt over five years. This daughter of Into Mischief has quality on the dam’s side of her pedigree, and looks like one who shouldn’t have too much trouble making the transition to dirt.

Rocket Picks : Delaware Park, Horseshoe Indianapolis, and Saratoga for July 14, 2022
                      By: Aaron Halterman

Happy Opening Day at SARATOGA! For the free pick 4, we will head there for the Late Pick 4 on the card. We will also have full card selections for Delaware Park and Horseshoe Indianapolis for the paid Rockets, so be sure to check those out.

Below is our free late Pick 4 for Saratoga:

                      Saratoga July 14, 2022

                      Race 7: Wilton Stakes

#1 Goddess of Fire gets class relief today after taking on graded stakes company in her last three starts, including the Kentucky Oaks. She also cuts back in distance, which should help her chances. #7 Tarabi runs second off of the layoff in this horse after a solid second last time out. She should move forward off of that effort.

                      Race 8: Allowance Optional Claiming
                      freestar

#1 Canisy was a solid second at this level last time out at Belmont Park, losing by a half-length. She should be tough to beat today. #3 Myriskyaffair finished second in a Grade 2 event at Belmont last time out, which was obviously a tougher spot than what she will be up against today.

                      Race 9: Schuylerville Stakes (G3)

#9 Summer Promise never looked like a loser in her debut race, crushing a maiden special weight field by multiple lengths at Churchill Downs. It looks like Lukas might have a good one with this filly. #1 Just Cindy also looked solid in a debut win at Churchill Downs and should move forward off of that race.

                      Race 10: Claiming

#5 Fast Corey drops down in class for this race after running fourth against allowance runners last time out. She should be the one they have to run down today. #6 Abuse of Power was also fourth against allowance horse last time out at Belmont Park.
