It’s another big weekend of racing so lets day HOT! Last week was another solid success for the Rockets. For the free pick 4, we will head back to Saratoga for the Late Pick 4 on the card. We will also have full card selections for Del Mar for the paid Rockets, so be sure to check those out.

Race 7: Claiming

#4 Kershaw runs first off of the claim today for a solid trainer, while Irad Ortiz Jr. will stay aboard and ride through the claim. That is usually a good sign. #1 Air Attack has hit the board in three straight races since being claimed by Atras. He should run well once again today.

Race 8: Starter Allowance

#8 Maybe Later moves back to the dirt today, which is where we have seen her at her best in some of her recent starts. This is also her second start for Linda Rice, which usually leads to improvement. #3 Backyard Money goes for two in a row today after breaking her maiden over this track last time out. Jose Ortiz is back aboard, which is a good sign.

Race 9: Galway Stakes

#7 Empress Tigress is a perfect two for two coming into this race after winning a tough stakes race over this track last time out. She looks to have a pretty big future. #1 Poppy Flower was second to our top choice in her last start and could turn the tables today if our top choice does not first with a top effort.

Race 10: Maiden Special Weight

#9 Jocosity was a decent fifth on debut last time out and should move forward nicely off of that effort. Mott horses usually run very well in their second starts. #12 Saratoga Chrome can win in this spot if she rebounds from a poor effort last time out. Her other races are good enough to make an impact here.

Trainer Charlie Baker has a good one headed to the Saratoga MT, and with Joel Rosario aboard, he has a great shot to reach the winner’s circle. With the old angle of 3rd start in the cycle, this gelding by Cupid is in for a tag. This runner’s best skill is coming from off-the-pace, and let’s face it, with a jockey like this, he looks like a bet at 5/2.

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 5: The Sleepychipmunck #1, 6/1):

I backed this gelding of Chad Summers last time out at this level when he raced on the turf at Belmont before their Meet closed in July. The son of Looking At Lucky was 3rd at boxcar odds of 20/1 … that will not be the case today. I like his chances, and hope that the rider change to Luis Saez does the trick … what an upgrade. Summers is a solid conditioner, and he is looking for his 1st win of the Saratoga Meet. Here’s to hoping that he remains around 6/1.

There are 6 meetings in Britain and Ireland on Thursday, with turf action from Beverley, Ffos Las, Leopardstown and Salisbury providing competitive action throughout the afternoon and evening. The highlight in terms of quality comes at 7.30pm, where the Group 3 Bahrain Turf Club Desmond Stakes is sure to attract runners from the top Eire yards over the one mile trip. For all-weather fans, Lingfield stage one of their popular evening music fixtures, while there is a good card and decent fields expected over sticks at Tramore from 5.20pm.

Sir Mark Todd’s scopey 3-y-o impressed when causing a surprise against experienced rivals on his debut at Ffos Las in July, and lost no caste at all in defeat when turned over at 5/6f at Chelmsford 18 days ago. He remains with loads of potential to keep on improving, and the return to fast turf and a step up in trip to seven furlongs should suit ideally at Salisbury on Thursday. The 7lb claimer Taylor Fisher eases the burden of the penalty, and this looks a particularly weak race for the grade.
