Most Likely Winner: Complete Agenda #2 (Race 8)
Best Value: Raka Raka Cruz #7 (Race 5)

Most Likely Winner: (Race 8: Complete Agenda #2, 3/1):

Have you ever wagered on a horse time, and time, again … and they continue to let you down when you back them? Of course, the one time that you play against them, they win … sound familiar? I am going to try and see if Todd Pletcher’s son of Curlin can live up to the family name in this spot. Apparently, he has everything going for him. A strong ownership group … Repole and St. Elias … check! A HOF trainer … Pletcher … check! Maybe Luis Saez can work some of his magic, and hustle this late-running colt home for a well-earned victory. If he is 3/1 come post time, then that is a solid price. Here we go again …

              Wagering Recommendation: $100 Win, #2

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 5: Raka Raka Cruz #7, 20/1):

I would like to see the hard-working jockey, Trevor McCarthy, collect some more wins at this Spa Meet. He only has 3 so far, but he will be aboard a wild card in this race. That always means a price play, and I would not write-off this 1st timer for Lenin Cruz, who also happens to own this son of Dialed In. With a nice work at Belmont in the tune-up for this race, he will get overshadowed by more powerful barns like Cox’s and Pletcher’s … Nothing like a payday! These 2-yr-old races are something … McCarthy’s dark day travels on Mondays and Tuesdays should be a benefit, keeping this fellow sharp as a tack!

              Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #7 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 9: Turf, 1 Mile, NY Stallion S., $150k, 3F, NY Breds):

The NY Stallion Series rolls on … Taking to the Inner Turf, we find a good group of young fillies that are poised to try 2-turns. Based on their form, it appears that Jorge Abreu’s Busy Morning #6 and Gary Sciacca’s Dream Central #4 will be jockeying for the top spot on the tote board. The latter is the one on the make, where as the former is looking to maintain her present course. Ridden by Javier Castellano (who is having a magnificent Meet), it looks like the daughter of Central Banker is poised to make it 3/3 in “Non-G” events. That last race though could have been a loss, and that makes me think that she was especially lucky. As for her odds rival, Abreu has this class jumper handling the turf just fine. Jose Lezcano chooses to stay aboard this one, instead of heading over to ride Sciacca’s … does that mean something? Well-bred by War Dancer, she has a nice stride about her, and won by a whopping 6-lengths. If she can make that happen again, it will be a big surprise. I am willing to take a chance on her, but I would not leave out Michelle Nevin’s own War Dancer filly—Royal Dancer #3. Ridden by Irad Ortiz, even though this one might be still be looking to break her maiden, she has talent in spades. Let’s see if extending back out to a mile suits her fancy. Here is my wager that I will be playing …

              Wagering Recommendation: $2 Trifecta Wheel, 6 w 3/4 w 3/4

Spa selections 2022: Saratoga picks August 18
In Spa Selections, our correspondent provides his Saratoga picks for key races on today’s Saratoga card!

                Race 4 – Handicap 25000s

                1. #4 Stage Left (3-1) – Most recently won an allowance at Saratoga against a stronger field, and won going away plus has two other wins over this track

                2. #2 Mexican Wonder Boy (2-1) – Runs well at this distance and should get an early jump on this field which gives this horse a leg up on the others

                3. #5 Flamingo Hawk (5-2) – Dominated claimers last time out at Saratoga, with a good record in the money at this distance

                4. #1 Alcools (9-2) – Two for three at this distance and should be close to the lead early, but has mostly competed in claiming company

                Race 8 – Alw 115000n1x

                1. #4 Winit (5-2) – Flashed some speed last time and can be a wire to wire threat here with the same approach against this field

                2. #2 Complete Agenda (3-1) – Ran a solid fourth last time against Keepmeinmind, and may see some improvement this time, although this one is a bit inconsistent

                3. #3 Nabokov (3-1) – Chad Brown clearly holds this one with high enough regard to enter it here after a rough go in the Dwyer, but should clearly improve with a better break

                4. #5 Warrior Johnny (9-2) – Was bet to favorite last time, only losing by two lengths despite finishing sixth, and has run well since switching to dirt

Race 9 – New York Stallion Series Stakes

                1. #6 Busy Morning (2-1) – Won impressively last time at six furlongs, and stretches out here to eight, but still wins with a repeat of last race’s trip and performance

                2. #4 Dream Central (5-2) – Winner of her last two, has run much better on turf and well recently, and is doing so against this company

                3. #5 Howdyoumakeurmoney (8-1) – Gets Rosario here and has won her only try at Saratoga, plus has good back-class and should run well at this distance this time around

                4. #2 Robyn and Eli (5-1) – Royal Dancer has had trouble holding leads, so take a chance with this one who has some upside as a closer if the pace heats up more than expected

                Race 10 – MC 40000

                1. #6 Lookin Grand (9-2) – Has improved in every start and could be solid value here, but might be best coming from off the pace so needs the right set up

#1 Uragano (5-2) – Drops into maiden claiming company after five failed attempts at state bred maidens, so should see some improvement here

#8 Loz (3-1) – Gets a bump dropping from maiden company, plus comes off a sharp bullet work and was bet to a solid price last time

#2 Ableton (10-1) – Last time out was placed more towards the lead, this time adds blinkers and can be competitive if aggressive

A 1pm start awaits participants at Echuca on Thursday with racing to be performed on a predicted Heavy 9 surface. The popular quaddie kicks off at 3pm, with the last of eight races starting at 4:30pm, a race which sees one of our better bets going around.
Best Bet at Echuca – Funnyifitwon

Funnyiftwon, the son of Starcraft/Humorous Bet did enough on debut when second at Warracknabeal on a Soft 7 surface. Patrick Payne and Billy Egan combine and from barrier 19 Egan will have to make a decision early, but this isn’t an overly strong maiden and we think this gelding can overcome the tricky draw. Since his debut on July 25 he has trialed fairly on Soft ground (August 9) and that should have primed him up nicely for this event. Three of the five emergencies in this race could have big chances, numbers 17, 18 and 19 so we will have to keep an eye on the scratchings and see if they gain a run. With a big field size, we expect the pace to be on and Egan to settle back of midfield.
                    Best Bet

                    Race 3 – Silk #1 Funnyifitwon (19)

                    4yo Gelding | T: Patrick Payne | J: Billy Egan (60kg)

                    $4.40 with Ladbrokes
Next Best at Echuca – Mennea

Barrier one will help Mennea in this BM68 race over the 1400m. He was spelled for over a year before putting in a very good performance first up when running second after getting beaten a nose. That run should help his confidence and from barrier one Harry Coffey should give him a good run in transit. At Mildura he settled in the back half of the field before unleashing a strong run to the line over 1200m so we think the extra 200m will suit here. A Heavy 9 track is a bit of an unknown, but he did run second in a jumpout on the same ground two months back.
                    Next Best

                    Race 8 – Silk #3 Mennea (1)

                    4yo Gelding | T: Ciaron Maher & David Eustace | J: Harry Coffey (59.5kg)

                    $3.90 with Bet365
Best Value at Echuca – Waitapu

Five races in 70 days suggest we are dealing with a very fit horse here. Waitapu raced on a similar surface (Heavy 8) at Cranbourne last start and ran on quite well for fourth so we are confident that he can produce something similar in a race that is of similar standard. He ran on well on June 22 and scored a win on a Heavy 9 so despite his form not being super strong, we think the conditions are the key in this. He will settle around midfield or slightly worse and should start to work home nicely for Daniel Moor over the last 200m.
                    Best Value

                    Race 5 – Silk #7 Waitapu (1)

It is Rowley Mile Day at Hawkesbury on Thursday, with the $185,000 Listed event headlining a competitive eight-race card. HorseBetting’s New South Wales racing analyst presents you with his best bet in the feature, as well as his best bets throughout the remainder of the afternoon and quaddie numbers. The track is rated a Good 4 and the rail is in the true position for the entire course. The meeting is scheduled to get underway at 12:40pm AEST.
Rowley Mile Best Bet – Cross Talk

It is pretty difficult to go against a horse like Cross Talk who comes off a two-length Listed win over 1500m last start. The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained five-year-old has gone from strength-to-strength this preparation, losing only one race and winning the other three dominantly. The son of Keano does have to take his wet-track form to a dry Hawkesbury on Thursday, but this is a much weaker field than what he faced on July 30 in the Winter Challenge. He will lead from barrier nine with Tim Clark on his back, and although he rises 4.5kg, we expect him to still be too strong in what is a weak edition of the Rowley.
                      Rowley Mile

                      Race 7 – Silk #2 Cross Talk (9)

                      5yo Gelding | T: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott | J: Tim Clark (57.5kg)

                      $1.75 with Ladbrokes
Best Bet at Hawkesbury – Magic

If Magic doesn’t win a Hawkesbury maiden, you’d have to think that the Golden Rose and Caulfield Guineas is out of reach. The colt out of superstar mare Rising Romance has been good in three career starts, placing at Group level twice and then finishing well back in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes. Trained by Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes, this three-year-old by Snitzel has a real boom on him, so connections will be hoping that their $2.5 million purchase can get the job done here in maiden grade. William Pike will have a job ahead of him from barrier 15, but with the Winkers going on first time, we are tipping the horse will switch off nicely and then accelerate too quickly for his rivals. Magic has the clear class edge.
                      Best Bet

                      Race 5 – Silk #10 Magic (15)

                      3yo Colt | T: Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes | J: William Pike (56.5kg)

                      $2.60 with Neds
Next Best at Hawkesbury – Peace Officer

Clarry Conners’ colt Peace Officer could explode first-up on Thursday. The three-year-old by Iffraaj should simply have won on debut in the Pierro Plate (1100m), but he did not get a shot at them until the 200m when the race was all but over. He didn’t handle the Heavy track which he was dealt in his next three starts, finishing midfield in the Skyline Stakes, Pago Pago Stakes and Bailleu Stakes – all at Group level. Conners has given this horse two nice trials and Nash Rawiller has been aboard both times, so seeing him stick with him on race day is a big push too. Dry track, 1300m and right back in grade are three things that are right in Peace Officer’s favour.

Rocket Picks : Del Mar and Saratoga for August 18, 2022
                          By: Aaron Halterman

It’s another big weekend of racing so lets day HOT! Last week was another solid success for the Rockets. For the free pick 4, we will head back to Saratoga for the Late Pick 4 on the card. We will also have full card selections for Del Mar for the paid Rockets, so be sure to check those out.

Below is our free late Pick 4 for Saratoga:

                          Saratoga August 18, 2022

                          Race 7: Claiming

#3 Charles Chrome runs for Jacobson for the first time today, while dropping down in class, which should help his chances. It will be interesting to see if Jacobson returns and has immediate success after dominating these types of races for years. #2 Veterans Beach also drops in class after a fifth place effort last time out.

                          Race 8: Allowance
                          freestar

#4 Winit looks to make it two in a row in this spot after a solid maiden special weight victory at Belmont Park in his last start. #3 Nabakov takes a big drop in class after a poor effort last time out in the Dwyer Stakes (G3). He should rebound well today.

Race 9: New York Stallion Series Stakes

#3 Royal Dancer should be the one getting to the front in this spot, which could be dangerous going one mile on this turf course. #2 Robyn and Eli nearly won at this level two starts back; however, she must rebound from an extremely poor effort last time out over this track.

                          Race 10: Maiden Claiming

#1 Uragano takes a significant drop in class after two decent efforts on the turf. #8 Loz will be taking a similar drop in class for this race as well. It seems to be now or never for these two, who should outclass this group.

                          THE TICKET

Horse racing tips Thursday, August 18, 2022 best bets and horses with the most tips
                            Hourse Racing

Six race matches take place on Thursday with the star attraction coming from York, while day two of the Ebor Festival takes center stage. While there are alternative races in Stratford, Chepstow, Killarney, Fontwell and Leicester, we focus on the action in York and pick the best bets on the Knavesmire from a host of racing tips here…
There is an absolutely fascinating renewal of the Yorkshire Oaks at 3:35 pm as the heroine of 1000 Guineas Tuesday fight with the Coronation Stakes heroine Magical Lagoon. However, that stylish pair, who represent the three-year-old generation here, will have an uphill task to take down race favorite Alpinista and La Petite Coco, who currently lead the bets for Thursday’s Group 1 feature.

Tuesday and Magical Lagoon, which took the weight of their older rivals, have proved popular with our tipsters and current nap table leader Expert Eye is looking forward to Aidan O’Brien-trained Tuesday to claim more top-class group glory, while Garry Owen, who second is in the table, lasts Tuesday with the above Magic Lagoon, which has an 11/2 chance at today’s price. Sir Mark Prescott’s Alpinista is a top-priced 9/4 to claim glory and that fancied rival has proven to be the most popular selection in the race as three tipster swallowed the Prescott’s charge who will be the one to get defeated.

Four horses in York napped by three racing tipsters and while mountaineer has proven to be the most prominent profile of those who are some of the other notable runners who have caught the eye today. Richard Hannon’s Should have been is an 11/4 chance for the Yearling Stakes at 2:25 pm and has been napped by three tipsters, while the Cruyff Turn of 12/1 in the 3:00 pm game is in front of Tim Easterby and another chance that runs through a trio is drunk on tipsters. The last horse to run in York and to have napped three times is the William Haggas-trained horse Queen Aminatuswhich is a 7/4 chance for the 17:20 match.
The Scotsman’s Glendale has been in great shape this week, bidding for a third winning nap in a row, and that shaper heads to the 14:25 match for the best bet of the day. Kevin Ryan’s Review built in second place on debut at Haydock Park by getting his head up front in Newcastle and Ardad’s son is a 12/1 chance to land today’s game which is a remarkable step up in the class but he is open to significant improvement.

Racing Ahead’s Ben Morgan is another headline in Thursday’s action after two winning naps on the bounce, and he takes a real shot with the 22/1 chance No No Nicki, who runs off the map at 5:20 p.m. in the final race, lining up ahead of Richard Fahey and Cam Hardie. Back in the Sandringham Stakes at Royal Ascot, No Nay Nicki came back into shape with a decent second place finish at Doncaster, and if she can build on that effort she must be a lively outsider.

For those lovers of discounted selections, look no further than the 50/1 rag Shelira in the 3:00 p.m. in York, who’s Steve Mullington’s best bet from 888Sport, and that raider is a race and distance winner, so we’ll hope a return to York can see the six-year return to winning ways at huge opportunities.
