He is 5-8 with a 4.66 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in 19 starts this year, including 3-4 with a 5.98 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in 9 home starts. The Rangers are 12-16 (-10.3 Units) as a home favorite this year. This line should be much closer to even money. Take Detroit.

They won't be an easy out for the Brewers, who are playing their worst baseball of the season in going 8-14 in their last 22 games overall. Justin Steele has a 1.00 ERA in his last three starts while giving up only 2 earned runs in 18 innings with 23 strikeouts. One of those starts came against the Brewers on August 21st when he shut them out in 6 innings with 9 strikeouts. Steele has a 2.86 ERA in seven previous starts against the Brewers. Milwaukee is hitting .216 and scoring only 3.7 RPG against left-handed starters this season. Give me the Cubs.

Friday MLB Free play. My selection is on San Diego over Kansas City at 8:10 pm et on Friday.
I like the way this matchup sets up for the Padres as they send Joe Musgrove to the hill against Kris Bubic of the Royals on Friday.
Musgrove is having a terrific season, recording a 3.39 FIP and 1.01 WHIP while holding the opposition to only 3.17 runs per nine innings. Behind him is a Padres bullpen that has rounded nicely into form, posting a collective 1.96 ERA and 1.04 WHIP over the last seven games.
We’ve picked on (NOT bet on) Bubic often this season and rightfully so as he has struggled, logging a 4.62 FIP and 1.65 WHIP while allowing just shy of 6.0 runs per nine innings. While the Padres haven't necessarily thrived against left-handed starting pitching this season, it hasn't really matter who they've faced away from home, averaging 4.8 runs per game - well north of their 4.3 rpg season scoring average.
The Royals bullpen has been a disaster lately, sporting a collective 6.23 ERA and 1.54 WHIP over the last seven contests. Take San Diego.

I like the Chicago Cubs to win this game against the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday. The Cubs just played a tough series with the red hot Cardinals but they managed to take 2/5 games in that series, but the Cubs looked really good going into that series and I expect them to continue playing well here. The Brewers haven't looked great in their games lately, losing their 2 most recent series, 1 of those being a series to the Cubs just last week. Justin Steele (4-7, 3.25 ERA) is up for the Cubs here and he has looked great in his starts lately. He has made 6 starts in a row now where he has given up 2 runs or less, and he has also given up just 1 run or less in his 2 most recent starts against the Brewers. He has looked great for a while now and I expect him to shut down the Brewers lineup again here, which hasn't been great anyway. Freddy Peralta (4-3, 4.08 ERA) is up for the Brewers here and he hasn't looked bad in his starts lately but he has been giving up a ton of runs in his starts all year and I think he has more liability in this game with the way he has pitched this year. I expect the Cubs to put up runs here and stay hot. I like the Cubs to win this game.

The Braves (-137) are worth a look as a decently priced road favorite against the Cardinals in Friday's MLB action. Both these teams come in playing great baseball. I just have a lot more trust in the Atlanta offense, especially in this pitching matchup with the Cardinals sending out Jose Quintana. While Quintana has had a nice 2022 season, he's fading a bit of late with a 3.95 ERA and 1.829 WHIP in his last 3 starts. Braves will have Spencer Strider on the mound, who has a 3.42 ERA and 1.022 WHIP in 15 starts. Strider faced these Cardinals back on July 7th and held them to just 2 hits over 6 scoreless innings. Play the Braves -137!

My “Cutting Room Floor” plays are the situations I considered the closest to being worthy of investment but did not make the “final cut” for my official plays today for subscribers. The last play I cut for Friday is on the New England Patriots plus the points versus the Las Vegas Raiders. Las Vegas (3-0) is unbeaten this preseason after beating the Dolphins in Miami last Saturday by a 15-13 upset victory as a 1.5-point underdog. The Raiders did allow the Dolphins to average 6.07 Yards-Per-Play — and they have failed to cover the point spread in 8 of their last 13 games in the preseason after allowing their previous preseason opponent to average at least 6.0 YPP. Las Vegas held Miami to only six first-half points after holding Minnesota to six points in their previous preseason game two weeks ago — but they have then failed to cover the point spread in 10 of their last 13 preseason games after not allowing more than seven preseason points in the first-half of their last two preseason games. New England (1-1) comes off a 20-10 win at home against Carolina as a 6-point favorite on Friday — and they have then covered the point spread in 13 of their last 20 preseason games after a win at home in their previous preseason game. The Patriots have also covered the point spread in 15 of their last 20 preseason games on the road as an underdog getting up to three points. Take New England plus the points. Best of luck — Frank.

I have great respect for Sane Bieber. However, I'm not going to turn down this price on the home underdog Mariners.
Seattle is 31-13 (70 percent) the past 44 times when facing a righty starter. The Guardians are 0-4 in their last four contests against Seattle.
Bieber is 1-2 with a 3.75 ERA in four career starts versus the Mariners.
Logan Gilbert is 10-5 with a 3.52 ERA. He hasn't pitched as well during his last eight starts as he was earlier in the season. However, half of those outings were against the powerful Astros and Yankees. This is a step down in class for Gilbert. The Guardians rank 16th in runs and 29th in homers.
Gilbert is backed by a bullpen that is 51-0 when leading going into the final two innings. That's the best in the majors.
